[Q] HTC inspire 4g brought from America..now in India - Networking

Ok, so i brought my HTC inspire from America to India because im going to be studying here for the next 5 years. In america, i was running with the 3g internet and all.
After coming to India, I unlocked my phone through AT&T and bought a new sim card (Vodafone) and just recently initiated the 3g plan. However, upon starting it, it was apparent that the 3g would not work here, for i was constantly running on Edge. I was told that the band in America is lower than that of Indian company; I was told America runs off 1900mhz and India runs off at around 2100mhz. My Phone was of AT&T so im thinking it might only be going at 1900mhz, but I'm a bit confused because i unlocked it, unless that doesn't do anything to the band. So, anyway I was wondering if there was a solution to my problem? I've bought 3g network and it only runs off edge(2g). I read around about radio and something about rooting it, but I didn't want to try anything until i was almost sure it wasn't something that wasn't going to help me.
Also, even though i am no longer with AT&T, when i try to use my 2g for hotspot, it keeps telling me to enable tethering by calling 611..but that's not a valid number here in india haha.
So, thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.
thanks

Phones like the Inspire 4G are "quad-band" or "world" phones. Which means that they can work and/or switch between the 4 major bands. Those bands being; GSM-850/900/1800/1900 MHz. Technically there are 14 GSM bands that can be hopped on with the right device. For 3GPP or 3G for short; can run on bands the 850 mhz to 1900 mhz bands which is what is most commonly used in North America and Brazil. I am trying to not get overly complicated with this because it is easy to do. Bottom line is in places like India and parts of Brazil they use the 1900 MHz band and it is paired with 2100 MHz to form what they call an IMT-compliant 2100 MHz band. In English, that is an overseas offshoot, acts and behaves like, 3G and will get you close to those 3G-like speeds lol!
That out of the way the information that you talked about, where you were told that the Americas run on lower bands; who told you that? AT & T or was it Vodafone? I would need to know a little more, but it does not sound like your phone is the issue. It sounds to me like its your SIM card. Not that it is defective or anything like, but was not parsed or set up properly for where you are. Let me know who you talked too and I can see what I can find out for you to try and help you narrow your problem down. You can PM me or just post a response. Hope the information I gave you so far was helpful.

Same problem with.
I also brought HTC inspire 4g from America, after that flash with Android Revolution HD 6.1.5.
All working well, but 3g is not working.
Please help me...

inspire does not have 2100 band and hence 3G will not work in INDIA
end of story....
NO ROM changing or modding will solve the issue

i picked up an inspire4g from USA and 6months later, my phone earlier used to turn off on its own, but now, it switches off as soon as i unplug it. htc guys call it a mother board issue, and after i googled htc issues, most indian buyers are having motherboard issues(rather, all of them). so, tehre should be something seriously wrong with htc or the service center people.

Unfortunately Inspire is useless for 3g in india. Unless 3g is started at GSM1900 band. Thats because India uses 2100 mhz band for 3g.
Great phone though.

G1 Coming to Rogers in Canada

Tons of articles on it, but here is one anyways:
http://www.i4u.com/article24643.html
My question is: Since I already have the T-Mobile G1 unlocked and using it on Rogers, I wonder if they're either going to support the frequency of 3G that my phone supports, or if the Rogers G1 will have the different frequency. Hope they release more details soon so I know if I should sell this one to grab one that I can actually get 3G on :S
Any thoughts?
I wonder pow much they'll rape yu for data charges.
I used to live in Vancouver, and know what a rip-off data charges are up there.

http://wirelessnorth.ca/2008/10/16/one-things-for-certain-about-the-g-phone/
** this says that rogers has the 1700/2100 AWS spectrum in Canada. Presumably, the Dream and Sapphire (there is no such thing as a "G1" -- this is a TMOBILE-ONLY rebranding of the Dream) launch will coincide with the enablement of this network.
Oh, you'll note how much they paid for AWS.... "In total, Rogers will pay $999,367,000."
heh heh... nearly a billion smackers, but they've got 20 MHz in all areas of the country.
no, rogers is 850/1900. so im hoping i can get it on AT&T 3G. that would be so awesome

You, I'm sorry to say, are an IDIOT.
If you would actually read the whole thread, you would see that no, Rogers also owns rights to a 20 MHz spread of the 1700/2100 AWS band as well, which they will presumably be launching with the Dream. Why pay a BILLION DOLLARS for something if you're not going to USE IT?
True
So June 2nd G1 from T-Mobile can use 3G ?!
what about fido?!
I'm waiting for $30/6GB data plan
its like... almost unlimited
nothings for sure yet...
either rogers will start running the new band that t-mobile runs, or the devices have a different radio compatible to rogers' current 3g band
update: seems like the Canadian HTC Dream will run on AT&T / Rogers 3G bands:

the 3G wont work with the tmobile version. different bands for 3G.

anything i need to worry about before getting the HD2 from US

hello all
it costs around $900 here and it will cost half that unlocked from t-mobile on the 24th. is there anything i need to worry about before ordering it for a friend from the states and using it here (Saudi Arabia). we use 2100mhz+900mhz for our 3G band so it should work fine here
anything else i need to worry about before i order it?
i dont think it'll work on saudi 3g, Tmobile uses 1700/2100, not 900. you need both bands to work
are you sure about the two bands thing
i had a t-mobile HTC G1 and 3G worked fine
that's odd, because phones that only share the 2100 band do not work on Tmobile. Perhaps its different the other way around.
the 3g of the g1 (1700/2100) and the Nexus1 (900/1700/2100) both work on our STC/mobily network. i assume the US-HD2 will be the same but i could be wrong cant anybody else confirm. i cant possibly be the only here intrested taking advantage of the US super cheap price
Well, you are not alone but I don't think anybody can confirm one way or another with 100% accuracy. I for one will buy it and then try to use it in Europe (i.e. 2100 MHz UMTS). Like you I've noticed that G1 has exactly the same specs for the radio. It also makes sense that HTC and T-mobile would like to support international roaming. All being said, there is always a chance that things are different this time. I tried to contact both HTC and T-mobile and I received contradictory answers. The only way to be sure is to try it or wait for somebody to report real-world use cases
anyone managed to test this yet?

Bypassing AT&T

Picked up an Aria and immediately found I was heading overseas. Managed to get it unlocked and put a new sim in, but now it will not connect to 3G networks. It will connect to edge quite nicely though.
HTC told me that the only way to have 3G access was to have the AT&T sim in the phone. I really doubt that, and after reading the threads on here I think I have come to the right place to find a work around.
So any suggestions or fixes??
If this is something easy please forgive the newb.
If you are still in the United States, are you using T-Mobile? If so then the 3g bands are different from At&t's. It will only connect to edge. Also if you go anywhere outside the US then the same is true.
I would think that were the case if the sim carried the frequency settings but the phone does correct?
I am in Israel and when the AT&T sim is in the unlocked Aria I have 3G, put Cellcoms sim in the Aria and 3G goes away. Now if I put the same Cellcom sim in an unlocked mytouch 3G, well there is 3G again. All of this is happening on the cellcom network by the way. So that tells me that there has to be some setting that AT&T's sim is tripping either when inserted or removed??
Now does that make sense..... Or not?
hmmm... that is a pickle then. I couldn't tell you about that. You might want to contact Cellcom and ask them personally about it. I don't know if there is a settings file that changes that. I know it only comes with two bands and maybe the at&t sim is connecting you to another network that you didn't list and maybe that is the mix up.
Yea sat with one of their guys for 2.5 hours yesterday. Was making him crazy, that is why I broke down and called HTC. Thanks for the input.
att aria 3g freqs 850/1900
tmobile touch3g 3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100
looks that cellcom carrier freqs are the same as tmobiles since aria does not support those u wont get 3g just edge

just call customer service in the usa its(was-idk if it still is) a law that companies must unlock upon users request
Nope the law went away...again. They claimed there were no unlock codes yet. I found a place online it was called "HTCsimunlock" I think. Anywho they sent me the code after about 30 min.
BTW. Figured it out have 3G now but only in certain areas with Cellcom. Still working on making it everywhere.
Thanks for the help everybody.
Great, thanks!

[Q] Baseband Issues...

Hello all, I just bought a Defy mb525 green lens off amazon. I'm in the United States and my sim card is from T-mobile. The phone is from south american (not sure which country)
With the stock rom everything worked fine.. but after i installed cm10 all i got was emergency calls only. I tried all the T-mobil basebands.. as well as every other baseband.. not once did i ever get a signal of any kind.. at one point my phone detected at&t but still had no signal..
I then tried cm7 but had the same result..
I then tried stock cee just to settle on something that works but got rid of blur.. but still had no signal..
If you live in the United States and are on t-mobile wat baseband do you use? Could the issue be with different hardware due to the phone being made for south America? (although with the stock rom i have a great signal) Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated..
Thanks in advance,
Eman

I have a similar issue with a Defy MB525 that I bought as a refurb from Amazon just a couple of weeks ago.
When I received it, it seemed to be set up with Spanish as it's primary language...
Anyhow I reflashed it with a motorola sbf file that allegedly was for Tmobile USA and had Android 2.2.
Then I rooted it and loaded up CyangenMod 7.2...
I have a SIM from Lycamobile USA, which rides on the Tmobile network.
Before fiddling with the various baseband selections available via CM7.2 I could not make any calls
Phone info, baseband version:EPU93_U_00.59.01
Partial solution.
Tried all of the TMobile/USA baseband settings - no joy.
In desparation tried some of the SouthAmerican settings and the Asian settings...
The best of the lot seems to be Asia/China/ME722 1.10 850/1900/2100
Which works okay and gets an "all bars" signal for me - for Voice and Edge data.
I suspect this setting works because T-Mobile operates Voice and Edge on 1900Mhz in my area.
Also, in some areas, I get "emergency call only", which is probably on the 850 band that belongs to AT&T.
Problem
I don't get any 3G service. That's probably because, as I understand it, 3G for t-mobile is using 1700/2100 (up/down or vice-versa)
and my radio isn't set up to use the 1700 Mhz band.
Question
Can I fix this with a reflash of firmware - to exploit "quad" band operation 850/1700/1900/2100? Which are all in use by Tmobile and/or AT&T in the USA, according to various Wikipedia articles.
If so, which firmware should I load?
If not, is this a hardware limitation of the Defy MB525? Some builds/versions? Or all versions/builds?

I use the Colombian frequencies, better battery life than Chinese. But yeah, occasionally on some stock builds I wouldn't get any signal. If you're in South America, try using the Retail ROM for Latin America. More specifically "JORLA_U3_3.4.2_108-2_R02_SIGNED_USAJORDMR1B25RETLALA01F.0R_JORLAFRORETLALA_P008_A005_M001_HWp3_WIG147146_Service1FF", which is the one I'm on now.
And no, in most countries you won't get 3g, since this is a hardware issue. I get 3G in Ecuador, but that is only because Movistar here uses 850mhz band for UMTS. Another option would be to sell your Defy and find a Argentina Personal Defy which uses 800/1900, or buy a European Defy that uses 900/2100, since I think in almost every South American country there is at least one carrier that uses those frequencies.
But T-Mobile's defy in South America, as far as I know, will only get you 3G in Ecuador.
EDIT: Misunderstood the post, wasn't paying attention , but my point is still valid. It's a hardware issue.

I'm visiting Melrose MA today and I'm seeing an HSPA signal! Still with the "China" settings...
Speedtest.net says I got:
Code:
Date,ConnType,Lat,Lon,Download,Upload,Latency,ServerName,InternalIp,ExternalIp
"2013-06-21 15:32","Hspa","42.45245","-71.06685",1388,988,282,"Boston, MA","10.230.130.121","83.137.2.146"
"2013-06-20 07:49","Edge","41.33962","-73.37708",198,112,467,"Secaucus, NJ","10.230.142.199","83.137.2.147"
While the "Network Signal Info" app says I'm HSPA at 14.4 Mbps, I guess that's a max.
Soo... this is good, but I'm still curious -- how can I determine which band(s) the radio is operating on?
According to Wikipedia, T-mobile runs HSPA on the 1900Mhz band in some areas and 1700/2100 in others...
Since I set my radio to 850/1900/2100 - my first guess is I've wandered into a 1900/1900 HSPA zone...
My connection is to CID13693382 / LAC 36498 MCC-MNC 310-260 Is there a database where I can find out what frequencies are assigned to this cell tower for T-mobile? Lots of location/map services - but I didn't find any info about baseband allocations in this area...
Hmmm... Let's try switching the baseband to the T-mobile USA 6.x settings...
Same result as in CT, no service, no joy ;-(
Do the T-Mobile USA settings work for anyone watching this board?

GT-i9515 only 2g speed?

Hey everyone,
I read for hours but unfortunately I haven't been able to find the solution.
So I bought a Galaxy S4 GT-I9515 in Europe and I'm not able to get any speeds higher than 2g on my USA 4g T-mobile plan.
The network mode is set on auto connect (LTE/WCDMA/GSM). I tried setting up a t-mobile 4g APN but it won't accept it (it pops back to standard after a few seconds..)
The simcard does work at 4g on another phone.
I rooted it with chainfire autoroot but this made no difference.
Anyone have a clue? At least 3g would be nice and should be possible..
Does the gt-9515 support the carrier's 3g and 4g frequencies?
Hey, thanks for thinking along..
According to frequencycheck.com, yes (both 3g and 4g).
Also, the t-mobile store didn't make notice of this being a problem. They were horribly incompetent though (just googling everything..) But you'd think they would at least check that much.
The I9515 won't get LTE in Europe as bands 2, 4, 12, and 17 aren't used there. The best you can do is HSPA (3.5G in the US) for data. If you're not getting at least HSPA the local carrier may have throttled you.

If I put the simcard in my old phone (moto G 1st gen) it makes an LTE connection so I'm not throttled.
I downloaded an app called LTE Discovery which doesn't read an LTE connection but says HSPA: -75.0 dBm is available.
With an internet speed test I'm only getting 770 Kbps however.
Oh, and I'm in Las Vegas currently (not in the middle of nowhere before anyone asks.. )
It's about the same speed in the Bay-area.
I misread your initial post. The fact you're not picking up LTE in Las Vegas means something else is wrong. In fact it makes me wonder if you even have an I9515. Kindly enter download mode and read off the model number please?
If things are as I suspect they are, then you're actually in possession of an I9505. My comments in my earlier post regarding LTE still apply, except it's the phone lacking the US bands instead of lacking European bands.

You're right, I mentioned the US T-mobile plan but forgot to clearly mention where the problem was occurring/where I want to use the phone (which I bought in the Netherlands). Just to be clear: I am in the USA and that's where I intend to use it.
ODIN MODE
Product Name: GT-I9515
Ok...I'm really confusing myself. For some odd reason I had the Straight Talk S4 in mind. LOL.
The I9505 and I9515 have the same bands: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 20. You won't get LTE in the US on this device and are limited to HSPA here. Fortunately, HSPA is fast enough for multimedia, so unless T-Mobile is repurposing its 3G network for LTE you should see about 4 or 5Mb a second.
Thanks for analyzing, you seem to know a lot about this.
However, the primary problem is I'm not reaching any HSPA speeds either.
I know a lot about this, as I have an I9505 and live in the US.
The phone is working properly, so speed issues are carrier related. And it's not uncommon. I've had it happen myself, on AT&T towers.
