Bypassing AT&T - HTC Aria General

Picked up an Aria and immediately found I was heading overseas. Managed to get it unlocked and put a new sim in, but now it will not connect to 3G networks. It will connect to edge quite nicely though.
HTC told me that the only way to have 3G access was to have the AT&T sim in the phone. I really doubt that, and after reading the threads on here I think I have come to the right place to find a work around.
So any suggestions or fixes??
If this is something easy please forgive the newb.

If you are still in the United States, are you using T-Mobile? If so then the 3g bands are different from At&t's. It will only connect to edge. Also if you go anywhere outside the US then the same is true.

I would think that were the case if the sim carried the frequency settings but the phone does correct?
I am in Israel and when the AT&T sim is in the unlocked Aria I have 3G, put Cellcoms sim in the Aria and 3G goes away. Now if I put the same Cellcom sim in an unlocked mytouch 3G, well there is 3G again. All of this is happening on the cellcom network by the way. So that tells me that there has to be some setting that AT&T's sim is tripping either when inserted or removed??
Now does that make sense..... Or not?

hmmm... that is a pickle then. I couldn't tell you about that. You might want to contact Cellcom and ask them personally about it. I don't know if there is a settings file that changes that. I know it only comes with two bands and maybe the at&t sim is connecting you to another network that you didn't list and maybe that is the mix up.

Yea sat with one of their guys for 2.5 hours yesterday. Was making him crazy, that is why I broke down and called HTC. Thanks for the input.

att aria 3g freqs 850/1900
tmobile touch3g 3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100
looks that cellcom carrier freqs are the same as tmobiles since aria does not support those u wont get 3g just edge

just call customer service in the usa its(was-idk if it still is) a law that companies must unlock upon users request

Nope the law went away...again. They claimed there were no unlock codes yet. I found a place online it was called "HTCsimunlock" I think. Anywho they sent me the code after about 30 min.
BTW. Figured it out have 3G now but only in certain areas with Cellcom. Still working on making it everywhere.
Thanks for the help everybody.

Great, thanks!

HD2 T-Mobile version...Will it work on AT&T 3G?

Out of the box, will the US T-Mobile version out this Wednesday work on the AT&T fast 3G network by just poping in the sim card already set up for 3G use? If not why not?
Look at other threads, and do your research. I won't give you an answer, because its easy to see.
in a non mean way, nope. only edge.
unfortunately not, since tmobile uses a diffrent 3g band than att means you will be without 3g service, so you can only use EDGE (which we all know is not good) however you could put the phone on your wi-fi connection, and you will need to unlock the phone before you can use your att sim, (call tmobile and tell them your moving out of the country to london, its what i do )
with EGDE ... no 3G

Find a friend with T-Mobile, buy the phone, ask them to ask cs to unlock it for them, since they are "Going our of town" or it "says sim locked, please enter sim code". Either will work, since they will happily oblige, id try the 2nd one first since its more of a I need the code for the phone to work type of thing.

US T-Mobile HD2 on AT&T? Yes or no?

I'm pretty sure the answer to this is implied or even obvious to some of you out there from the technical specs scattered around this website (and others) on the different flavors of HD2, but I'm unable to reach a conclusive conclusion on my own, so I'll simply plead ignorance and ask it outright:
If I buy a US T-Mobile and attempt to use it on the AT&T network with my 3G AT&T SIM card, which of the following will happen, to the best of your knowledge?:
It won't work at all.
It will work, but only for EDGE access.
It will work as a 3G phone just fine.
It will work on At&t, but GSM only, meaning only voice and edge. You will not be able to get 3G, no matter what rom or radio you flash.
Yep, the above is correct. It will work on Edge only. However, do note that the phone would have to be unlocked first. If you just switch the SIM cards it will not work
currently, it won't work at all.
No one has reported to unlock this beast successfully.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll stay away from this experiment then.
ive got mines unlock and im loving it despite the t-mo brand at the top other then that im loving it.im only egde but it really doesnt matter.

I successfully unlocked my T-Mobile HD2 yesterday (to switch back to AT&T) after visiting the following site: htccode.com
It'll cost about 25 Euros to get unlocked... Also, the support person is pretty responsive.

In looking at the band frequencies for the HD2, it appears that you may be able to set it up for AT&T's flavor of 3G. Is this correct?

Yeah, the GSM(1900+850) in the band frequencies threw me off. I thought that was what AT&T used for 3G. Doesn't matter to me, I'm on T-Mobile anyway... and I keep my 3G off most of the time for battery conservation, lol.

Band Unlock Now Publicly Available

I guess TBH finally gave up on trying to overcharge for this service. They have released the band unlock publicly.
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...d-2-global-pro-update-zip-public-release.html
I haven't tried it yet. It won't work with anything other than 2.26.2, so you'll have to SBF back if you are on something else and want to try this. It also won't work on T-Mobile's 3G network.
If you try it, let us know if it works.
I would try as I'll be travelling to the usa soon and use t-mobile pay as you go sim.
But the how to is not really easy, I'll try again just before leaving for usa... or carry a second phone
So in essence this would allow me to use the phone on Virgin Mobile's network?

This unlocks GSM bands. Virgin Mobile (at least in the U.S.) uses CDMA.
The bands for use on Virgin Mobile are already unlocked. However, you would still need to flash the software that VM uses. I don't know if VM does this for you like some prepaid carriers do.
hi i tried this and it works with simple mobile in the us but i only get 2g its something and 2g is a little fast too
it works with at&t sim. make sure your phone is sim unlocked first. code on ebay is $8.

Tmobile Version has AT&T LTE support, and unlocked bootloader?

So far it looks like the Tmobile S4 has LTE/HSPA+ support for AT&T, and no real signs of a locked bootloader. Anyone else plan on buying that version and unlocking it if the bootloader is in fact unlocked?
Does anyone know of any apps that would test the LTE/HSPA+ bands the phone is capable of? I want to go into a Tmobile and use a test unit to see if I can get service with my LTE AT&T SIM.
https://explore.t-mobile.com/samsung-galaxy-s4
Edit: Well, it looks like I'll be getting the Tmobile variant unsubsidized and use it on AT&T. Tmobile will unlock the phone if you pay the total cost up front. I just need to find a replacement back cover to rid myself of the stupid Tmobile logo on the back... lol.

If I had the money to buy the S4 outright for full price, I would just get an i9505.
EDIT: Spoke too soon. The i9505 doesn't support AT&T's LTE bands.

I put the info in the OP that I have so far; the LTE/3G radios are reported to support all of AT&T's bands. The bootloader, I'm going off of a guess since I don't think that Tmobile could afford to bribe Samsung to lock their bootloaders for them.
HMM, ok thanks for the info so far. I might have to go out and pick one up and test it.
Looks like the T-Mobile version has all the same bands and some extra ones added in. For instance the at&t only has lte bands 4&17. The tmobile version has LTE bands 1,2,4,5,7&17. Will T-Mobile unlock their phones for u??

I'm feeling like a newbie today cause I have my new T-Mobile Galaxy S4 in front of me & still playing with new features after 3 hours.
Tell me how to check to see if bootloader is unlocked and I'll do it.
Also trying to remember where we go to unlock the developer tools. Only remember that it must be clicked 7 times?
Just remembered, Settings.About Device>Build Number <Click Build Number 7 times, back out and Developer options magically appears.
Now i can go into it and toggle USB debugging. Now I only feel 95% newbie.

Has anybody tried their T-Mobile phone on AT&T yet?
If so, I have a couple of questions.
1. Can you use the T-Mobile phone to wireless tether (become a wifi hotspot) on AT&T's network? The AT&T version can be used to tether (with a simple hack). I was just wondering if a different .APK would be needed to do the same with the T-Mobile phone on AT&T's network or if the T-Mobile phone already has an APK installed that works on AT&T's network?
2. I realize an existing AT&T sim card can just simply be placed into the sim unlocked T-Mobile phone for it to work, but how would I go about changing the imei and other phone info that AT&T has in their system about the phone? In other words, would AT&T cause problems with anyone using a T-Mobile phone on their network even if the person paid full price for the phone and it is unlocked? Would it be better to have them change the system information at a store versus over the telephone?
3. It is reported that the T-Mobile phone works fine on AT&T's LTE network, has anyone verified this and does the phone show LTE when on AT&T's LTE network?
Thank you for any replies. Hopefully this information can help people decide if they want to buy the T-Mobile S4 to use on AT&T or not.

You can, for now, use PDAnet for tethering.
As far as changing the phone to appear as "unknown" to AT&T's system, don't do it without a backup of your /efs folder. I don't recommend doing it either because it's not really worth changing things around to hide that you're on a Tmobile phone, because for the most part, they don't care as long as you're paying them your monthly bill. I personally know a friend who has used her unlocked HTC Amaze on AT&T without issue (she was stuck to 2G speeds). The only way for you to have an "unknown" phone on your account is to use an international model phone such as the HTC one or the i9500 (unconfirmed that the i9300/i9500 model is entered into AT&T's system, I only hèard a rumour that AT&T has the IMEI of those phones in its system). My i9100 currently shows up as "unknown" in my bill statement.
I took a screenshot, but I don't have a link of the LTE working conformation (attached). I won't be getting my phone until I am on holiday in New Hampshire so that I can avoid the sales tax on purchasing the Tmobile variant. I would ask my parents to buy it for me, and I send them the money, but they have no technological skills whatsoëver close to asking/knowing what to ask for at the Tmobile store. Sorry guys, lol.

Why does my Note 3 show 4G with one SIM and 3G with another?

I have a Samsung Note 3 that I bought from Mobilicity (Canada).
It is unlocked.
When I put my Wind Mobility SIM card in, the data says 4G.
I want to give the phone to my sister, who broke hers, but she is with Rogers.
I put her Rogers SIM in my phone and everything works great.
But, I don't understand why the phone says 3G with her Rogers SIM in it.
Does anyone know why? I was under the impression that Rogers is faster than Wind's data. So how can Wind be 4G but Rogers 3G.
Both carriers have the same model number of the Note 3.
Wind has 4g? Maybe the Rogers card is not an LTE sim?
Could be any number of reasons:
- The provider isn't enabled for 4G in the Build.prop.
- The SIM is too old.
- The SIM doesn't support LTE
Probably the first. The list of 4G enabled providers rarely makes sense. It is literally just a matter of 'true' or 'false'.
We had a similar issue in the EU with various firmwares when 4G became available, every CSC has its own list of 4G enabled providers. For instance, DBT (Germany) had 4G enabled for T-Mobile NL, while the T-Mobile NL firmware didn't have 4G enabled for itself.

Hmm... I'll ask my sister to check her SIM card. But I doubt they would have given her the wrong "new" SIM card that she just got.
If the Rogers sim card is new, it would be a LTE-enabled card so that can't be it. Also, Wind only has a 3g network.

With the Wind sim, is it connected to the Wind network or is the phone roaming? Is the phone set to auto/LTE in settings? The phone is running a completely stock ROM? Phone is the sm-n900w8?

It's connected to the Wind Network... it's not roaming.
Under "Network Mode" it says:
WCDMA/GSM (auto-connect).
Wcdma/gsm appears with the wind card or Rogers card?
I've seen Samsung phones with stock firmware incorrectly displaying 4G for Wind, even though Wind's network is 3G.

Okay thanks for this comment above. It was helpful because it got me searching for more along that line.
When I went into the settings, there was no option to choose LTE, but I know it's an LTE capable phone because the box said it was, and the sticker on the phone said 4G/LTE.
So I did some searching and found that there is a code that you have to use to set the phone to the Network you are using if you want to make use of the LTE.
Rogers has LTE.
I will go into a Rogers and ask them to do it, because I don't want to ruin my sister's phone (my phone that I gave to her, because her's broke).
It's *2012# (IMEI)* Something like that. I have it written down, so I'll bring it to the Rogers store and ask them.
Hopefully that will get her phone working on Rogers LTE, but in the meantime, she hasn't noticed a difference in data speed anyway.
But thanks for your help, and also to everyone else who posted a reply. :victory:
Have a similar thing going on with EE.
Supposed to choose 4g if available but it's not always the case.
Sometimes shows 3g or H+ but if I change my network mode to LTE only then I get 4g no problem.

I don't have the phone anymore. My sister has it, so I can't check. She's technically challenged, so I wouldn't even be able to get that info from her on the phone. Lol
But I will see if I need to turn on the other bands by using that code to set it to Rogers' service.
