i want to know if i change my micro sd to ntfs format, i know it is unsupported on android/linux, but i want to know if i can still mount it the card through my phone (i am trying to put a file bigger than 4gb, which is the limit on Fat32, so i need to change format to NTFS , but i dont have any adaptors or anything, so will it be fuctional if i put my phone to usb mount? )

Sorry, I'm afraid NTFS will not work on your phone. I believe you can use EXT4, etc. but your Windows box will have a tough time with that.FAT32 is the common filesystem between Linux and Windows.

I am running the latest version of MIUI and have an unused stock sdcard that came with the phone. It had a few backups which I copied to my new sdcard, but otherwise I didn't need anything that was on it, so I formatted it. Now it will not allow me to mount the sdcard because it is not set up correctly, how could I set it up?
What did you format it as? NTFS? FAT32? EXT-2/3/4? Need more info. Ensure you format it as FAT32 and you should be fine; it has the best compatibility between ROMs and PCs.
I haven't been able to format it at all.

You might consider connecting it to your PC using a card reader. From your PC you should be able to format it as FAT32. If you are on Windows, you can do this through Administrative Tools >> Computer Management >> Disk Management. In fact, sometimes Windows will just pop up and ask you if you want to format right when you plug it in.

When connecting any external storage or card reader with usb cable direct to my Iconia A500 tab, Astro Manager states on usb storage "directory is empty". This happens with all 4 storage units I have tried this with. What is wrong? Anybody? Thanks a million.
Are your devices formated FAT32? Stock Iconia will not recognize NTFS filesystems. Just a thought.
I get the same thing with my drives which are formatted with ext3. My sd cards which are FAT32 are read fine with a card reader.
FAT32 is the only thing I've tested and it works. It's amusing that a linux based OS has ext support removed. Guess tablets don't need >4GB files.
I downloaded the A500 User Manual yesterday and read through it. The Manual states that USB drives need to be formatted for either FAT or FAT32 to be read.

I thought it strange that ext wouldn't be supported...but what do I know.

Apparently more than the moron engineer at Acer who thought to not include modules for ext and NTFS.
I connected a ntfs160 GB USB hdd to my a500 and it worked out the box. Also I was able to tether my desire using wifi. I don't understand why people are having to mod to do this.

I was interested in transfering files from my hone (Nexus s 4g) and my A500. I wanted to know if this is possible by simply plugging the phone into the tablet's usb port. If not, is there any drivers or apps i can download to let me do so? Basically, i want it to be like when i plug it into my computer. I want it to show up like a hard drive.
Also, i have a external harddrive and had a question on how to format it. When i right click hit format is comes up as NTFS being the default file system. The onl y other option is exFat. Is that the same as Fat32? I've heard Fat32 is the only file system that works.
Thanks for the help!

when you format your sd card on your phone you will still have folders on there as they are default android folders
on phone goto
phone settings
sd card and phone storage settings
unmount sd card
format sd card
on pc
right click on the drive you wish to format
click format
set to fat32
format
you can just delete any files on your sd card too if you want to remove them
note - if you have a 2nd sd card partition you will need to delete this in mini tool and then expand the other partition into free space or delete both partitions and create a new single partition
note this will not format any data on your phone like contacts apps stored on phone internal memory etc
My sdcard memory before. Format is 5.30 GB
After format it's 7.39 GB.
But I remove sdcard from phone and again move SD card on phone. The memory is 5.30 GB that I earlier have ...and I can't delete data from. SD card.and not renamed it....can't get files from USB through pc ....
Is there any problem in that?

impossible - if you delete the partition and create a new partition and format the sd card with mini tool on pc all data will go
make sure you actually press the apply button - nothing will actually happen untill you confirm all the changes

if you can view sd card and copy file to it and it is readable then its not corrupted
its more likely user error - and without seeing what you are doing or looking at the sd card I cant comment further

Is it Write-Protected?
If it is try this Steps
U need to run cmd.exe,
CardReader
Insert your memory card in the Card Reader and plug it in the PC
Now, type the following in Command Prompt, pressing Enter after each command:
diskpart
list disk
select disk x (where x is the number of your USB flash drive – use the capacity to work out which one it is)
attributes disk clear readonly
clean
create partition primary
format fs=fat32* (you can swap fat32 for ntfs if you only need to use the drive with Windows computers)
exit

why is it showing as A: drive as the A: drive is normally reserved for floppy drives
Try using cwm to format the sd card or use a different pc or plug the sd card in a card slot on pc and not through usb cable

just saying using reserved drive letters is not a good idea as windows could get confused - id change it to a letter of E or after
A and B are reserved for floppy drives
C is reserved for windows hard drive
D is reserved for cd rom drive
E and after is normally free for extra drives
might not make any difference but it may confuse 3rd party programes when it tries to identify it
ok....

Guys I am having a problem with my HP 1 TB hard drive. When I plug it in my phone using otg there is a notification saying that "your hp hard drive is corrupt, tap to fix " which takes me to a format manu.
Of all the file managers available , only es file explorer is able to read the contents but writing operations are not allowed.
The otg cable is fine because I can use all my USB drives without any problems
The HDD itself is not corrupt as I can read/write on it using my PC/laptop
Note: when I first bought the HDD it was working normally on my phone ( it was blank back then) but then I had to format it to FAT32 for it to work with my PlayStation 3, after then I again formatted it to NTFS and transferred around 200 GB of movie and series in it and here I am.
Any help is appreciated

I had the same issue w/SanDisk 128 dual USB. Download 2Tware's Fat32Format (CNET has it) or a similar, third-party app and format the drive in FAT32. Hopefully, that'll fix your issue as it did mine.
