Bootloader was too late - XPERIA X10 General

Hi
Does anyone else think that the bootloader release is just a bit too late. All our great devs have left just before it was released. Reason I say this is because the unlock has been around for a week and all I have seen is DooM making kernels. Z hasn't been seen and as for the others well. They moved on. Same for all our better cooks. What are other peoples views on this.

Nope, to me, I consider it as an exclusive treat for the loyal X10 users.

I agree, I havent even bothered unlocking mine as the old method is fine until something else worthwhile is released. I doubt we will get anything we dont already have.
Perhaps an updated kernel eventually but i cant see anything useful for me.
The X10 has got old fast, there are so many better phones out there now. Ive never been that happy with the x10. The features I find it has arent overly great. Its huge 8mp camera blows compared to other phones. Far to slow and annoying to focus. I use to use it alot when I first got it but dont ever touch it now.
I doubt the devs will be able to squeez much more out of there roms.

i want to see a rom thats as full to aosp as possible likegoogle version of android and then ill do mine

i think some people expect too much from the bootloader unlock.
The bootloader bypass gave us custom kernels and was a big step.
The bootloader unlock doesnt really give us much extra in addition to the bootloader bypass apart from a quicker startup time. Those people who just think bootloader unlock automatically gives us the ability to do 16m colours or proper multitouch are simply ill informed as to how this stuff works.

You guys got a point and I admit I had to agree with you. We may have not seen anything worthwhile for now, but I am very positive that there will be, if not many, one whole new thing we havent seen for our X10.
I'm not sure what happened to z, but everyone has their own life. Just hope that he don't leave us just like that.

X10 will get official CM support and jerpelea is working on his CM rom and im sure zdzihu will comeback with something soon. Its not at all to late!
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

I saw this same thing on MoDaCo.
I look at it this way:
If you have unlocked your bootloader, then you don't have to worry about losing xrec when you flash a faulty ROM/kernel. Since it's built right in, it's there to stay. That way you don't have to deal with going back to stock, rooting, and restoring backup from there.
Made testing things a bit easier, if anything.
Let's all support our devs in slow times. And if at all else, come together as a community, learn to cook, mod, dev, and things will pick up.
And as always: this is done for free* by regular, everyday, normal people such as yourselves that do this in their free time. I'm grateful for that.
*only exception is ad clicking to get to WB files via adf.ly due to his financial contraints (but it's time paid, not money)

Welcome to the world of Linux my friend, there's no need keep saying the same thing again, and again. Just keep up the good work!
@DikeJ, FreeXperia is currently working on kernel 2.6.32 for a long time now(since before the bootloader was unlocked). About MT, search around the forums, AFAIK, Z said X10's digitizer supports MT, it's just that the phone is released on Android 1.6, which don't support MT.

@Hzu, good to hear. I know about creating 2.6.32, but about MT didn't heard anything before - very good info. So it's just a time to reborn again our X10's .
BTW - I will create topic on Devs forum - it will be gaming and the fastest ROM for X10 - I have hope . Stay tuned, after 21st .

Security perposes. Someone tried hacking one of my account but my software caught them. Shame I couldn't find them though. Anyways also I am a big fan of the 1st battalion blackwatch regiment. One of the hardest army regiments in the UK. Hey, gotta love the Scottish man.

Please don't take that the wrong way. I think you lot are nuts but sound as f**k. Got a few mates from that regiment and they are hard as nails. Scary too
Anyways also it goes with my lifestyle too. I don't sleep due to health issues so I am a bit nocturnal you could say but I'm always on the lookout. Black-night, Watch-eyes open and 89 my yr of birth. Hope that helps you understand dude.

Bootloader And Android 2.4

Hello,
I am planing on the Atrix for august when I will be in the US,
And I wonder- do you think the Bootloader will be cracked untill then?
Or Motorola Unlock it/ update to- 2.4?
Thank You,
Daniel
No way to be certain for either of those questions. Check back in August.

I wanted to know as well...
Sigh, August is way to long...
wow it sound really pessimistic.
I am following the DEVS thread and it looks like they found something and soon the will find a way to hack this...
they havent posted in the bootloader thread in a couple of days, so i dont know whats going on. its killing me too.
i cant make heads or tales of what they have done as of yet, but i can say that it looks better for us now that they have a way to recover (the sbf) if they mess something up. a lot of things things they can try now that they may not have wanted to before, for fear of brick
Not really pessimistic, just neutral. We can make guesses but there is no way to be certain the loader will be broken or whether motorola will give up and unsign it. They have stated we will get 2.3 for sure, but 2.4 is a toss up still.

Well thats sucks.
2.3 doesn't bring any important changes, and it does take time to make the update.
waste of time..
well it just means that if the devs here won't get to bootloader hacked the milestone story will be back.

Who cares about 2.3? 2.4 is what everyone's after...
GPU-accelerated UI and Browser
Built-in Gtalk video chat support
Multi-language browser support
And as Matias Duarte implied, all the Honeycomb design changes will be in 2.4
So who cares about 2.3? Not me. If the Atrix isn't released unsigned in Canada, and unless the XDA hacks it, I will be going for the Nexus S, and sticking with the Nexus line for the next few years...
Hard to speak about 2.4, as we don't have much of a clue about it. But loading custom kernels and the like is really making me re-think the decision about buying the Atrix...
Not to be a downer in this thread, but I wouldn't hold your breath for the unlocked bootloader, but it is nice that some fresh minds are going at it.
With that said, the devs for the D2 and DX have been able to set the users up with a good amount of customization.

HE GOT A WAY TO PASS THE BOOTLOADER!!!!
HOPE HE WILL PUBLISH A WAY TO PASS IT SOON!!!
Its still being tested but DA G has had some success. No one else has posted anything else. I think the reason the bootloader thread has been quiet is because there in an irc were they can talk easier. We prob wont hear anythkng new until they have made some progress. I'm just glad we have the sbf file. That's a big step. Ill be happy if we can get motoblur removed.

Bootloader almost bypassed

Okay the bootloader hasn't been cracked but don't let that get you down because the great Dev's have been working on it and now there may even be a workaround.
Bin4ry has managed to get his own kernel to load with custom image included, and although at this early stage the touchscreen and usb don't work this is definitely 1 big step closer to opening up our beloved x10's
Update - custom kernal has been loaded and touch screens working, confirming the workaround
I changed the title to better reflect what's been done
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Wow, although I can't believe what I am reading if that is true...wow great news and thank you devs for your hard work
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
good luck to our saviours =)
"almost" is such a big thing... maybe there are some other problems coming, when TS and USB are fixed...
i hope i'm wrong
PS: don't forget bin4ry as VERY good dev i would say one of the best! he wrote that he wants to buy a newer phoneto play around but we won't forget him and his work
Sent from my X10 using XDA Premium App
Wow this is awesome to hear!!!! I'm really excited to see how this unfolds
I believe that the bootloader is crashed out at some level, then the custom kernel is loaded, so it's more of a workaround but should offer the same end.
And definitely big thanks to All the Dev's that have kept working on solutions...

Hola
this is really good news to hear after almost of year of our dev team hacking away at this monster.
I do hope that Bin4ry will not get that new phone too soon
Moved as not android development
And way start this thread? If binr4y have news he can let us know? This thread is useless, and the information you provide us is already in the bootloader Dev thread.
Sorry don't mean to disrespect you in any way but this thread is for me spam..

Hey don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I Really think this is news for us x10 users. I felt that my post might inspire some people to hang on to there x10's. As for this being spam, no its not as the news is in the Dev's only forum while this is for general public, plus I don't think it's doing harm.
If Bin4ry has issues with including his breakthrough then I'm sure it will be deleted
PS, i Don't find it useless, not everyone reads the bootloader thread, so I think this may be very interesting

i'm happy with the news but it's kind of sad to read how just a little step after all these months make us all excited;when i just read last night that the htc thunderbolt bootloader was cracked after 2 or 4 days of its released.
i will support all the effort the dev and you ppl put into this but so disappointed wwith the way sony works, much like apple in my point of view.Is not bad coz they protect their products or intelectual whatever its call, but isn't the whole point of android os to be completly custumisible? if sony doesnt want us to do that or if in the near future the bootloadre is cracked, would they sue the dev?
why they don't create their own iphone then?
so disapointed, after using sony cellphones the last 6 yrs, this is the last for a while i think for me.but im so grateful for all the work and support of the dev and members.peace.
Im kinda on the fence with this post....but i have to lean towards the next "bootloader" post should only come when/if its cracked.

There's never been a phone with such a secure protection, and if this phone has an exploit then chances are new model's won't. This news though not complete is the closest the Dev's have come to finding a workable exploit. And what Bin4ry has done is show that we can have custom kernel's, this is a win in my eyes

It is NOT hacking the bootloader it is just ignoring it... Like doing a side loading of the Kernel. Unfortunately if you reboot your phone the phone will boot as normal with Original SE files....
Never the less it is great news, if he can get a script to start the kexec tool in every reboot the bootloader will be totally ignored and we can load the custom kernels.

The only way to really brick a phone is during a bad radio flash..
Just check your md5 sums and make sure to not flash either new boot file or radio if you have less than 30% battery or with the back cover off (so the battery doesn't fall out)

Time to say goodbye

Hey all,
Today I'm unfortunately leaving the Xperia X8 behind, as much as it pains me to say this after being a part of the X8 forum for such a long time, I'm getting a HTC Wildfire S and I must admitt I'm really looking forward to getting my teeth into it!
I'm always going to come back to you guys every once in a while to check in and see how things are going, simply because I'm far too attatched to this phone after bricking it 6 times, flashing countless amounts of ROMS, Kernels, Mods and even at one point, flashing themes back in the day.
I hope all goes well for the future development of the X8 because I can see a great amount of potential for our little phones and I hope everyone gets on O.K. with eachother, especially with some of the arguments I've seen around here.
Finally I'd like to thank all of the developers here, such as nAa, Doixanh, Paul-xxx, Racht and anybody else that I havent mentioned for their constant dedication and hard work to provide us with what Sony Ericsson never could and more, despite constant drawbacks.
Take care all!
Beans.

farewell mate
and all the best
Goodbye bbeans...
i m already leaving x8,still looking new phone...
Looks like you guys are going to have to deal with me for a few more weeks I'll never truly leave the X8 behind, I couldn't ever see myself giving it away or anything, Someone asked if the Wildfire S is the right choice and another asked why I'll be moving on to a phone that has more or less the same specs, well, I've been using my friends Wildfire S as a test phone for developers and being able to unlock the bootloader in a new way, have a whole new UI and more potential in development is just fascinating for me, i think it's going to be going quite far in the way of development, with MIUI Gingerbread and ICS already available, the possibility for Sense 4 and loads of other things, I just can't wait to get my teeth into it, I really think that the Wildfire S is a brilliant phone in comparison to how much you can buy it for, so yeah, personally i think that it's a brilliant choice in phone

Even I would have to leave the community soon...because in 2-3 months I'll join a college out of town. My mom uses my old X8 so I cannot take it with me. Bitter truth.

yeah, i think it's a wrong way to upgrade.
the advantage of wildfire s compare to x8, is only its big ram, 512mb.
cpu is the same.
about display, i think x8 is better
