^ Has anyone compared this to an actual Streak? The screen outline only measures 4.5 inches (diagonally), isn't it supposed to be 5 inches or am I missing something?
depends on ur dpi

LOL, I created a Word doc with a line drawing for this on Monday (8/2) to get an idea of the size and in what pockets it might fit.
I've still not been vetted as a real person (as opposed to a spammer) yet; so I can't post the link. Easy enough to do in Word and line shapes using the official specs from Dell.
If you are interested, you can find an image on Picasa and search for Dell Listening Process as my web folder.

Just wondering if anyone has found a company that can replace the screen and glass? Dell is useless, so finding a place to do it would be grand. I don't care where in the world or how much.

The LCD digititizer is difficult to find, the Gorilla Glass is impossible.
Dell don't even distribute it Yet

Dell sell them, they come with a spare Streak around it too
I saw an ad for a company in the uk that claimed they could repair the streak screen. Didn't bookmark it though.

Dell will push Google's Android 2.2 OS to its Streak handheld devices in a matter of "weeks," a company executive said this week.
It says 'a matter of weeks' not 2 weeks, i was expecting to be out well before christmas anyway to help sales figuers.
I like to fart in shoeboxes
Point taken, i stand corrected

Explain to me what the differance is please ?

There's a world of difference between 'a matter of weeks' and '2 weeks' and one is set defined with the number 2 the other could mean any number of weeks.
I don't know where in the world you are but there's a big thing in the UK at the moment with broadband companies quoting 'up to' in their specification.
eg: 'up to 8mb a second' the fact is it's perfectly legal as it states 'up to' and carries no defined number, like 'a matter of' for example.
Like the word 'several' like i had sex several times last week now that could mean three or twenty three couldn't it
Now the word 'couple' is completely different altogether, if you say 'i had sex a couple of times last week' then of course that means twice, because of the global association of the word 'couple' with the number two.
Now if i said 'i had sex with a couple last week' that throws up all soughts of figures and other stuff which we shall not go into here.
So if the quote was '2.2 released in a couple of weeks' rather than '2.2 released in a matter if weeks' now you see the difference.
Great expaination CHECKBOX111
As a general rule a.matter of weeks is up to 4.
More than that and you are in month territory. Thats providing the spokes person at dell has a reasonable grip of grammar

Since this thread is already filled with snarky nitpickings, I would like to comment that perhaps this is more of an issue with word choice than of grammar.

wow i just hope we get the 2.2 in the middle of November.... that would make me happy....
I just hope we get decent working software not the rushed buggy crap that was 2.1, they can take a dozen weeks so long as everything works properly.
any idea what stage ui looks like? i have a feeling i wont like it.
Can it be worse than what's on stock 1.6 right now

It will be released on the 25th of November.
I cannot disclose any further information at this time.

What makes you think that
Have you heard something
The Dell streaks are made by Qisda which used to be Benq
They make several phones for other companies, I think acer is one of them..
Qisda are/were doing the initial software development as well, before Dell in house team do the user Interface mods.
the software development is all supposed to be going in house in future, which should speed up development and hopefully bring some improvements.
We all wish it was made by HTC

No just speculation. The replacement of the HTC Athena 7501/7510 series was almost an exact match spec wise for the Streak:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835781
HTC canceled(?) their Thoth replacement, but the Streak shows up using the same form factor of a large screen smartphone. Dell can call it what they want but it isn't a tablet to me.

It's probably very possible. I haven't seen any devices that are listed that have higher specs than the streak

Possible? yes. Probable? no. As slow as Dell is updating to push Froyo out for the AT&T users, I dont see this ever happening with Gingerbread lol

That's at&ts decision. Not dells. Froyo is out for the streak. Most phones that are unlocked get their releases fast as they don't pass through carriers. They are direct from the manufacturer.

just for a comparison, the Italian version of my actual device, HTC touch HD, never got any ROM update because it was branded (not even locked) by an Italian carrier.
anyway. i don't really think there will be a gingerbread update. at least not a dell official one. all the other competitors have made official statements, tweets, and whatnot about updates to 2.3, silence from dell. skeptical... i just hope they won't be inspired by motorola on this one
i see a chance of dell dropping support for the streak on their mobile line. i dont think its done that well and i think its kinda their fault. however, if it stays on the lineup for another couple months, it may just get gingerbread. id be expecting it more from djsteve than dell though. just as a side note: no android phone on att officially has froyo yet. ponder that.

They are still selling it as new on carriers world round. So.... we'll see? But I'm sure we'll get it ported over one way or another! I haven't had much experience with Android, so I have no idea on how to do any of that kind of stuff ... So I'll wait and see if Dell mentions anything!
I think we will get Gingerbread.. Personally, I've seen more and more good news about the Streak and I would hope that because of this Dell would offer to support the Streak's upgrade path.
We all know Gingerbread is said to be more tablet friendly and Dell has marketed our device as a tablet first (phone 2nd). If it's not official from Dell I'm sure someone from XDA will keep the dream alive
Streaking with the XDA app!
ETA december 31, 2613! lol
Hopefully before streak EOL announcement...

For sure it will get it. Spoke to my dell guy inside and he says demand is up with a 15 day lead time...
What you also have to realize is the dell 7 streak will be out soon and businesses like mine will snatch them up... when people learn about the streak 5 they will buy.
I knew little to nothing about it and I am a tech person.. until my dell guy handed me one to play with...

nothing better than a 5" screen to see it on lol. I agree though i think it will get gingerbread, for the reason that the Dell 7 will more than likely be announced at CES people will jump to get a cheaper model price wise the streak and see if its good so that they can get the 7 for say business. Im sure it will get gingerbread as soon as it starts rolling out at least the unlocked version will lol. Not many have gingerbread if im not mistaken ive only seen the Nexus with a legit gingerbread .
I think theres no gingerbread update for streak
the main new fiture in ginger bread is nfc suported, but dell doesnt have nfc chip on it,,
maybe gingerbread available in the next streak (opus one)

NFC support could be most hyped hardware thingie on gingerbread but mass market adoption will take time and there are many alternative ways to support such functionality even without a built in IC. Whether streak will get an official update or not depends on dell moving its butt to make it happen but I also use nexus one and it will be gingerized without an NFC IC and hopefully start rolling very very very soon...
More than 2 finger multitouch, gyro capabilities and apps utilizing/supporting such features will be more of my concern rather than specific support for NFC on existing hardware as gingerization rolls out...

I feel it will get gingerbread. Reason is that Google hasnt said that you need to have anything to use gingerbread unlike with Honeycomb its just up to dell to get it done.

I think I know what you are talking about, and if I remember correctly it stated honeycomb is "optimized" for tegra2, but it is not required.
