I thought I would share with you the sad results of my Vibrant after it got in a fight with a car door.
Luckily I still have my G1.

Actually...let me guess... slid out of your pocket while you were closing the door

Yup, should have had a screen protector on it.

Why do people think screen protectors will protect against breakage? SPs protect against scratches - not shattering.
Yea no screen protector can help that Lol!

Maybe. However, I have heard too many people claim SP will broke against breakage...
Yeah most people think, "if it falls from a 5 story building, screen first it'll be okay since I have a screen protector".
Luckily, I have a case, and a screen protector. I know if that happened to me, I would still be screwed. I also have the T-Mobile insurance ;D.
Make sure u throw ur vibrant at the car door and make a dent so the vibrant can have the last word and get his revenge

The car door exploded at impact with the Vibrant.
I don't always complain, but when I do, I #BlameWes
What's the verdict? Does vibrant has Gorilla Glass or not?
Joking aside, sorry about your phone. I hope you have the Tmobile insurance.
Awesome destruction
You should hot glue it to plaque' and then stain it. Then you could sell it on Ebay as art.
ouch.

We need to believe that SP makes our phones super safe because that's the only way we can justify buying them
**facepalm**
Of course it was a joke...duh
I'm still wondering how it happened.
I mean for the phone to be on the door opening at the right time.
in most cars the phone will either fall outside on inside the car.
It must have performed an awesome balancing act to be broken right down the middle.
what i bet happened is that he raged and slammed it against the edge of a table or countertop.
Accidental damage warranty exchange?
any ideas about these? Ive seen the euro prices, can we expect the same? and has any body found and expected release date yet? dells keeping things locked up tight, that's for sure.
I have been watching every blog it seems for awhile and nada bit of info. I gave up and pre-ordered a HTC HD7 yesterday. I think they are waiting to release the WP7 and Android simultaneously or something. May pick one up down the road if reviews are great but my early adopting zeal has left for that one. I will keep checking and post if i find something though
i was in the same spot as you but the smaller AMOLED screen and hardware keyboard seemed the better option, i guess its a waiting game....
I wish it was released same day the hd7 was...then I could buy it outright hopefully its not to expensive...seeing its a dell it may be =/
any info on final retail price in US?

Basically it's toughened glass.
is it really scratch resistant ? HD2 original had youtube video show knife and pen hit on it, it doesnt hurt. but people still worry about the screen get dent.
grilla glass is really scratch resistant ? what if you drop it or something hit on it?

Those HD2 videos are probably the fake videos advertising that see through plastic **** you put on top of your phone and need to put soap on and crap. I wouldn't trust that for balls.
Can i use 2G GSM with fido?
Do they have sim lock?

I've been saying this for a long time, but i had 3 devices, Samsung P3 PMP, Zune HD, and hTC HD2. They all had scratches if you look closely. And i realized that these glasses are scratch free for the most part. And most videos on youtube uses white light to see the scratches but you need yellow light to see it. But i will definatley test the durability when i buy Venue Pro!
I dont know if i should get the HD7 on monday or wait and see when the venue pro comes out, which might be another month.
Dell Venue Pro to be available on the 8th through Microsoft Store and on the 15th through Dell. Apparently it will not be available through T-mobile directly. Still no pricing.

What makes you think that
Have you heard something
The Dell streaks are made by Qisda which used to be Benq
They make several phones for other companies, I think acer is one of them..
Qisda are/were doing the initial software development as well, before Dell in house team do the user Interface mods.
the software development is all supposed to be going in house in future, which should speed up development and hopefully bring some improvements.
We all wish it was made by HTC

If it were made by HTC, Froyo would have been on the device a long time ago.

No just speculation. The replacement of the HTC Athena 7501/7510 series was almost an exact match spec wise for the Streak:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835781
HTC canceled(?) their Thoth replacement, but the Streak shows up using the same form factor of a large screen smartphone. Dell can call it what they want but it isn't a tablet to me.

Oh...that´s what EOL means... Not very moodenhancing...Dell should open up the drivers to the devs now...
The should be ashamed of themselves for creating a device with so many screen problems.
Unless they release another 5" device, if/when the time comes, I guess I'll see if I can find a 4.5 or greater screen and move on. I still love my streak, even with the quirks it has.
I'm happy with my Dell Streak 5 running Spidla's custom Simple Streak 1.2 ROM. Though, Gigerbread would be nice. I hope that Dell is working on it, despite the fact that it's the EOL for the Dell Streak 5.
I'm sure this means no future o/s updates (or any other kind of software updates) for our streaks.
Please someone tell me that im dreaming PLZZZZZZZZZ
Dell <----- F****ING BASTARDS
yeah **** news, probably the reason why DJ Steve and everyone else weren't working on any further updates. I guess they got a heads up before this came out.
Poor Streak, I guess I'll start hunting for a new phone as this one is nearly 12 months old, devices are bound to die just outside their warranty period
as long as we're around the streak will never die!
Lol no ones died. Just because dell have discontinued the streak doesn't mean they evaporate! Great phone just not marketed well enough

i too am sad.. but after talking to the wife about her streak, she wasn't really thrilled with it with the out of the box experience, slow, botchy..etc.
It will be a year or so before we see something new, from what I understand there are good reasons, mostly to develop a strategy for the software and better security.
I am itching for a new 5" with dual core, which wouldn't be an issue to make, but they are really taking their time to probably perfect both hardware and software for a huge release... Just hope it doesn't turn into a WEBOS disaster where no one cares and everyone else has already moved on.... but then again, I may have moved on already by then to at least two other phones.
It is funny how a device has EOL.. yet people still stop me and have never seen it before and want one instantly.
samsung is gonna release a 4.65" phone dunno if dell will try again with a 5" as it didn't go "as expected" for them
atleast it did go like their craptacular lappys..

And do they realize that it comes with the uber-slow StageUI out of the box? you also have to realize that most people don't tweak their devices at all. Both of those being said, most people are pretty positive about the size of my phone, but I always get the "does that even fit in your pocket?", and "why would you want a phone that big"... people like it, but not enough to buy it.
Plus, by design, it had plenty of flaws, they are probably tired of selling a device with such a high return/warranty rate.
gutted i got my phone on a 18 month contract & ive got 7 month left to go
now at.least we know a 5 inch device does not work. Its too big to fit on the pocket but too small for reading books and.pdf like a tablet.

Mine works great. The size of the phone is what makes it a niche device. I carry mine in my pocket and use an ereader almost daily.
