[Q] Detaching my account from device - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I'm selling my nook color and thought it's stock, I want to make sure I have all my own account info off of the nook. Is there one clean way to ensure that happens??
Thanks!

Just go to your account on the B&N website and de-register it. On your Nook, delete an mail accounts, bookmarks/favorites, etc. That is all.

Theres no hard reset?

I moved to CM7 on my Nook Color, but if I recall the stock ROM correctly, it should be under:
Settings -> Device Info -> Device Settings -> Erase & Deregister Device
It's possible the location of this option has changed in an update, but the option should be somewhere.
You could also try to get into the bootloader if that doesn't work (for the Nook, you'd shutdown and hold the power button and the N button together until reboot). Most bootloaders have an option to factory reset from there.

I am under the impression that he is talking about a stock Nook Color.

The procedure I listed is for the stock rom. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

When I look at it again, it is more clear. I saw CM7 in the response and my mind stopped reading....

[Q] Cannot AUTHORIZE after back to stock?

I have 3 Kindles Fires and 2 of them were rooted with the Android Market installed so I could access all my apps. i have never messed with any roms or anything other than locking the wallpaper with root explorer. I have been trying to restore back to stock for 2 days now.
I have followed several different methods including TWRP methods and I can restore to stock easily, sign back in and get the Kindle registered. I can download books fine, I can stream videos fine BUT I cannot purchase any apps in the Amazon Market or view any of "my apps" in the market. Any time I try to the "authenticating" box pops up for half a second and then kicks me back to the Amazon App store main page.
I don't know what to do from here. My first Kindle (that I never rooted) can access/purchase everything fine. I have already contacted Amazon to verify there are no problems with my account on their end. I have wiped wiped wiped and factory reset and update.zip and update-kindle-6.2.1_D01E_3103920.bin countless times but both the previously rooted Fire's cannot function properly in the market.
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!
it's a shot in the dark but have you tried to unregister at the amazon website and the reregister with the kf ?
maybe it helps ...
another idea:
if you'r unregistered goto settings - apps - amazon market - clear cache - clear data - force close - then try reregister
you know - maybe it ...

I have not. I have deregistered and reregisterd on the device itself repeatedly but I have not tried on the Amazon website. Thank you very much for the advice and I will go try it right now.
just updated my previous post ...

I appreciate your advice. I just tried both of your suggestions but I still can't get past the authenticating box
besides of a cold reboot - just to be shure - no more ideas
sorry ...
When you flashed the zip to go back to stock, did you wipe everything first? System, data, cache, davlik cache. Might try a full wipe then flash the stock image.

I always wiped everything before flashing, including the sdcard, thinking it may have contained corrupt data preventing the market from authenticating correctly.
I'm really bummed. I was kinda hoping when I posted this that somebody else who had the problem would know a solution. Not sure what to do with the Kindles from here?
Seems odd to me that I have 2 Fires with the exact same problem. That leads me to believe that its either the update.zip that's faulty ( although I downloaded the bin straight from Amazon and had the same problem as the existing update.zip's ) or more likely something that the rooting process I followed ( nat3mil's ) changed that the back to stock is not replacing. Is that possible or does the update.zip actually replace everything to stock?
did you use the one from amazon ?
if yes this one restores everything including loosing root, fff and twrp

Yesterday I just kept trying the update.zip that is provided in one of the threads here but the morning I actually downloaded the bin direct from Amazon ( same as the link you provided ) and I tried flashing that following the instructions on Amazon and also in TWRP with no luck.
you can't flash the bin with twrp
and you can't install with the amazon method if you allready have the same version
rename the bin file to update.zip and flash with twrp
then it's like out of the box

Thats what I did. First I tried the Amazon instruction method, in the Kindle updates folder, and when that didtn't work I renamed to update.zip and flashed with TWRP.
EDIT: when I say it didn't work I mean it flashes fine but I still can't access my apps in the Amazon Market
then you have a kf like out of the box !
there is nothing more you can do at the kf side
you can try to set it to factory defaults in settings
otherwise the problem has to be on your accounts at amazon
edit: i think i heard somewhere that it takes some hours after registration until the account is fully functioning. no guarantee ...

I have done a factory reset in settings several times also. I emailed Amazon last night and this was their reply,
Hello,
I've checked your account and see you should be able to place the orders using both the devices.
In this case, I suggest you to reset both the devices.
Performing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire may resolve intermittent issues like trouble downloading content to your Kindle Fire.
To perform a hard reset on your Kindle Fire, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and then release. After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.
If your Kindle Fire is still unresponsive, try charging your Kindle Fire before trying to reset the device again.
If performing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire doesn't help, please reach us over the phone so we can help you appropriately.

I don't have my Fire with me at the moment because I am at work but the sync was not working right, you are correct. Its says my device sync is not activated and it won't allow me to toggle it on.

How to reset the A500

I just got a used A500. How do I do a full master reset so I can make it like I just opened it up new. Thanks guys,
Go to settings>Privacy>factory data reset...
There's also a reset button on your device Or has this button another function?
Yes however I do believe that this does not clear the internal SD storage. I too wonder about the op`s question. How does on completely reset the tablet including the internal sdcard.

If you do this and the previous owner had deleted phone.apk and telephonyprovider.apk from /system/apps, then it'll get stuck at the logo when rebooting. Check to make sure those files are there before doing a factory reset or data wipe.
Also, Check to see what ROM is on it. Is it stock? or is it a custom ROM? If a custom ROM, then to make it new you'd have to install STOCK.
So it comes down to how NEW you want it.
There's a thread that discusses downgrading to 3.01 using nvflash. That's the most sure way of putting back to factory settings, without knowing the exact status of it currently.
The easiest method probably is to just install a custom or stock ROM with a data wipe. But you need to do a little digging to find out if your on the old bootloader or new one and weather or not the tablet is already rooted.

Doing a Factory Restore is not enough
Go to Settings -> Devicen Info -> Erase and Deregister
Together with a Factory Restore this will put you back to 99,99% stock.

About to unlock/root best way to save current apps

Not sure why I didn't unlock and robot phone initially. However, I'm planning to do this now. Unfortunately, by waiting, I've got a good filtered list of apps installed that I use compared to the ones I've installed over the years.
In the past, when already rooted, I would just do a backup using titanium of the apps currently on the phone and just restore that set after a clean wipe which would would also bring back all of my app settings.
Is there a similar way of doing this now or do I just have to suck it up and get a current list of all the apps I have and do an ota install of them again?
If you do a factory reset on the device when you log back on it will ask if you want to restore your apps. Just click yes and it will put everything back on that was there before.
How would it know what "before" was though. Does it somehow know what was on the device just before and not pull apps that I have installed since the beginning of time?

Turn on developer options and use "adb" to backup the phone.

Go back to Stock ROM from 1337 ROM

Hi,
A couple of months back I had installed 1337 ROM on my Nook ST. However, I would now like to go back to stock ROM. Is using Nook Manger and selecting Restore factory.zip option the correct way? If not what steps should I follow?
Thanks
Using Nook Manager is the way to go. I know that there is a factory reset option available, though I can't remember that it is called. (I don' have either of my NSTs with me at the moment, so I can't check.)

Thanks for the prompt reply, however one thing that is bothering me is that I don't have a factory.zip file. Is it required or is it already present in an internal partition?

I believe it is in the internal partition, but I am not sure if the 1337 ROM changes that or not.

Assuming that both the stock recovery and factory ROM image in the backup partition are intact, one should be able to trigger a reset to factory-fresh condition by using the "8 failed boots" method -- power on the Nook and as soon as the screen flash on press power button to turn it off, do this 8 times.

Have you had any success so far? I just tried 1337 but it didn't work well on my device and restored to the original firmware. However I made a full backup image of my Nook (including boot partition and stock recovery) before installing Clockworkmod.
If you have not made this backup and installed Clockworkmod to your internal memory, it may be a bit more difficult for you to restore to the original firmware.
