Doing a Factory Restore is not enough
Go to Settings -> Devicen Info -> Erase and Deregister
Together with a Factory Restore this will put you back to 99,99% stock.

My Bravo constantly gives me a " 'INFO' The update package is not available at this time" message. It is very annoying. I have 2.2 update and phone works great, other than the poor signal now. Also when I go to about phone > system updates, it says an update is currently being downloaded. But it's been like this for a week. Is there a way to clear cache or make this message go away. Sorry noob question but I did try searching this out before I posted.
MotoBravo, If you have not done a factory reset since you did the update that is the place to start.
Hey thanks for response. Stupid question but will the factory reset revert me back to 2.1 ?

No, but it will erase all your personal data/apps on your phone (your sd card will still have its data though).
Backup your contacts and apps first!
Well I'm backed up except for .apks , but they wont let me transfer. I'm in debug so dont know what the problem is . Damn I got old.

What did you use to backup? I recommend buying bandroidx's bootstrap recovery to back everything up, or getting titanium backup for just your apps
Yeah I had Titanium already so went that route. Did the hard reset and all is well. Close this baby .
My sister gave me this phone as a present, that she was using it before. She had her own answer and her own google account but she died.. and now i cant go in the phone because it requires the answer or the account . Can i somehow reset it all?

Why not flash a new stock rom onto it? That way you start truly fresh. Do a search for Flashtool or something like that or you could root and flash a custom rom onto your phone, it's simple and you will benefit alot from it!
first, I am sorry about your sister..
second, try install xrecovery or clockworkmod recovery
then, you may do factory reset by them

There you go! I'm sorry bout your sister, mate.
Do full wipe with xrecovery...
Hi all, I have an N4 running Paranoid, may I ask how to delete all my user apps, pics, music etc while retaining the custom rom? Thanks

Do a factory reset in your recovery of choice.

Just do a factory reset in Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset. This will just get rid of your personal data and go back to how the rom is in a clean install with no user customizations etc. Doesn't affect the rom itself.

See attached screenshot. It quite clearly tells you when you press factory reset it will remove everything from your internal storage.. it's not a 'soft brick'.
Hmm, and if i want to wipe everything and go stock (soon leaked 4.4 image) from custom rom - get clean device/ "fresh start" with 4.4?

For that use one of the toolkit and flash stock image. It will wipe everything and restore back to factory stock.
First off.. i think i'm a big fan of safestrap.. more so then unlocking the bootloader cause now i can have partitions just like on a computer.. pretty sweet.... but you got storage issues.. as of now i'm rocking a 16 gig sd card.... them stupid things are expensive.... ANYWAY
with safe strap..... so i go ahead and flash HYPERDRIVE rom over the top of stock(have not done this as of yet)....... down the line i decide i want to go back to stock and unroot.. (kitkat or whatever reason.. (return warranty).) now that stocks is gone.. can i still unroot... go back into settings and do a soft reset to go directly back to stock and get ota's etc.. with no issues with knox......

You would be able to go back to stock. This would be done with a stock file, and you would do this using ODIN whilst the device is in DOWNLOAD mode.
hey there
im giving away my nexus 4 today, it has an unlocked boot loader and root access, on it i have slimbean installed
i want to give the device away as new, with nothing on it.
if i factory reset it, will it remove EVERYTHING from the device including whats on the SD, and when i boot it ill get the stock android that comes with it? or is there more work involved?
thanks!
Hi,
No it will not. it will just reset the current system and wipe everything. But you may find the stock rom here somewhere, i am sure someone can offer more help.
settings -> Personal -> Privacy (or Backup and reset) -> Factory data reset -> erase internal storage (or format USB storage)
Since you already rooted the device it should not be a problem to install the stock rom again.
This might be helpful....I cannot post links..But just google: "Factory Images for Nexus Devices"
Quick search on Youtube let me to this.
It should run you through returning it to stock. Might have to look for a diff video if you're going to do it on a Mac.

factory reset = stock rom?
i think yes
everything all in your device will be lost except your SD card, back like new phone
it's mean your phone back to stock rom
sorry my bad english
CMIIW
Factory reset will only return you to stock configuration, if you are running a stock ROM. Where is your Nexus 4 going to get all the stock goodies if it is running a custom ROM?

Nope, factory reset doesn't touch the ROM.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
As you are rooted you probably have adb/fastboot drivers. Take everything you need off your device. Download the factory images from google. Enter fastboot and type commands:
fastboot devices (to check if device is connected)
flash-all.bat (batch file that will completely erase everything and return it back to stock)
fastboot oem lock (to lock the bootloader)
That is it the device should be as if it is brand new out the box
