I tried to go from my AOKP device to a stock rooted rom I downloaded from the Development Section here, but it seemed to go horribly wrong.
I got force closes all over the shop, so I did a Factory Reset and tried again, still got Force Closes.
I tried to restore my Backup, but it seems that 4.2 puts my SDCARD data in a folder called /0/, so TWRP couldn't find them.
I have ended up downloading the Factory Image for 4.2 from Google and have decided to start from scratch. (And deleted ALL MY DATA in the process!!)
So, is there anyway I can root this stock ROM? I have just re-installed TWRP, so I am set with a custom recovery!

This worked for me.
It might cause a boot loop.. Don't worry about it, let it sit a few..then power off
And restart.(see the last page in the thread.)

Yeah, just done it! Seems to work well!
All I need now is an Extended Power Menu!!
Hi,
The other day I went in and checked some Cyanogenmod updates on my phone. I noticed some updates have been downloaded but not installed. So I went in and manually installed it. Before I proceed, there was a pop up reminding me about something. However, I did not pay attention to it and proceeded to install the update. Long story short - my phone has been stuck on the Team Win Recovery Project v2.6.3.0 with no way of getting back into having phone access.
I have tried looking up various ways of trying to get my phone access back. Some instructions require I plug in the usb - but then when I hit "Start", it tells me to plug in the phone first. Well my phone is plugged in! But since the phone now has no phone access, the pc does not recognize the device has been plugged in! So I am stuck in a catch-22 type of situation.
At this point, I just want to have my phone access back. Is there an easy way to get rid of the Cyanogenmod on the phone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I believe my phone has Jelly Bean 4.2.x on it (rooted with Cyanogenmod)
David.
If you have a Nandroid to revert to, use it. If not, just flash stock. If you don't know how to do that, just search Efrants guide in these forums.

Hi,
Thank you for your response. The closest I could find is a post by mrjraider (How to flash back to a Stock ROM!). However, any instructions I could find seems to require that I have phone access on my Nexus 4 - which put me, again, in a catch-22 - sine I do not have access to my phone, I have no way of doing any of them!
Please advise.
Regards.

Also download the latest image from Google.
Before you install the above mentioned software, go to the device manager and delete everything that says Android.
Install the software.
Boot into the bootloader. I'm assuming you can get there if you get into the recovery.
If everything is good, you should be able to use fastboot to flash the stock image. There's a switch - w that will be needed in order to not wipe your sdcard, but I HIGHLY suggest you read up on that elsewhere in the xda site, or Google it.
Good luck!

Thank you for your response. What exactly does "Also download the latest image from Google" mean, please?

Google nexus 4 factory image. Then download the latest image from there. It's a .tgz file use 7-zip to extract it.

I downloaded the Google Mako "OCCAM" (for Jelly Bean 4.2). I hit "Start" and the "Cyanogenmod" round logo keeps spinning in an endless loop. What do you think can be wrong?
Thank you.

jd1639, your method seems to be the simplest (I was going to try Wugfresh, however, it requires my phone to be on debugging - phone access to which I do not have!). Please let me know where in TWRP where I can do a factory reset.
Thank you.

I assumed you had the stock recovery. In twrp you could try to wipe userdata, wipe, advanced.

I am confused here you want to get your phone back up and running but you are worried about losing data. I see some pretty good suggestions in here and I hope they have helped but if not I believe better knowledge of how things work prior to flashing would of helped you out.
Now with that said and the links given have you simply tried to do a factory reset in TWRP and then push a rom over to your phone and flash it. Is your phone showing up when plugged into a pc while in recovery. Also flashing images would mean you would have to be in Fastboot mode. Now instructions on all of these methods have been created in xda. Take your time and research because its hard to mess up a Nexus and with a little time and following instructions everything will be ok.
good luck
Use Wugfresh Tookit to revert to full stock, search it on google
Hi playa,
I have to admit I never spent the time to acquire the needed knowledge in rooting an android. My original intention (in rooting the Nexus 4) was just to have the device rooted so that I can remove the bloat ware that came installed on the phone so that the battery will last better.
No, I have not done a factory reset in TWRP and pushed a rom over to my phone as I do not how to do either function. I see 8 blocks on my TWRP screen: "INSTALL", "WIPE", "BACKUP", "RESTORE", "MOUNT", "SETTINGS", "ADVANCED", and "REBOOT".
Which one should I click on for factory reset? And how do I "push a rom"? Where can I find fastboot mode?
No, when I plug my phone into my pc, it does not show up as "device detected".
Thank you.
p.s. I also tried the Wugfresh Toolkit to revert to full stock suggestion from alexcheveau, however, eventually, it asks me to put the device in debugging - which brings me full-cycle back to square one - I needed phone access to set it to debugging, however, I need to do a Wugfresh Toolkit full stock revert in order to have phone access......
Hi
To factory reset, its under wipe button

Hi all,
Just wanted to let all of you know I got the phone service back on my Nexus 4!:good:
I did the factory reset in twrp, then I did the adb sideload. It took quite a while (a couple hours actually).
I would like to thank every one who jumped in to help me out (and a big "Thank You" given to each of you). Again - Thank you all.
Strangely, when I tried to download Candy Crush, after installing, there is no "Open" button, and there is not a Candy Crush icon on the app page. A lot of Google apps do not react when I tried to download.
Thank you.
Hi guys! I'm in quite of a pickle at the moment. While trying to delete everything and get my Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7 back to brand-new, I deleted both the ROM-Slot and wiped the Stock ROM-Slot (and deleted the backup).
Now, my device is stuck on the "kindle fire" bootscreen.
Is there anything I can do at all?
well

No.
Not if you wiped the system of stock. Try holding the power button for over 20 seconds. At least I haven't heard of anything yet being able to push system files to this device currently .

Yeah. I've given up. I'm currently waiting for my replacement from Amazon.
Thanks anyways.
wow this thread answered exactly the result of my question of wiping system OS to save space
Face palm
So if i want to clean my kindle like the new one, do I have to factory reset? or just go to recovery and wipe data + cache (not to wipe system).
DO NOT WIPE... DO NOT TOUCH THE STOCK ROM!
Come on guys Hash said this in Bold text on the safestrap thread.
Hope you get your replacement soon. Just play safe.
I have a rooted shield tv pro 2017. I have SU installed but not TWRP which I boot from fastboot. I want to completely wipe the shield because I have begun to get sluggish behavior and a lot of apps crashing at random times. To include Leanback Launcher crashing. I have backups made with TWRP in case something goes wrong. Can I do this from TWRP so I can wipe all apps and data without leaving behind orphan files etc.
thanks in advance for any help.

No. Not even one response....Haven't tried it yet because I don't want to brick my shield. I know there are people on this forum that have either done this or know how, but no one is responding. I also noticed that where I asked the question is perhaps not the appropriate thread to ask questions so that may have something to do with the lack of a response.
I guess if you wipe user data, it will factory reset.
I would uninstall SuperSU first. Probably not necessary but safe.

I can say I'm more or less in the same boat as you are, with a small difference: my Shield is not booting at all, so it's sitting in the drawer and waiting. I wouldn't mind trying to flash the update from within twrp (I also flash boot it, it's not installed) but it seems difficult to find someone that actually has the OTA public*.zip for the Shield Pro 2015 (started the thread here but not one answered so far). I guess my best chance will be to get a second Shield Pro 2015 and get the OTA update file myself
Hi guys, so here it goes.
My phone just pulsing SAMSUNG.
I can get in to TWRP when booting the phone.
(i had a problem with Wifi tether router) i tryed numerous things to get it working again as everytime i tryed the app after 2mins it was restarting the phone. after back and forth replies with the author i decided to uninstalled SuperSU# then i realised ( why did i do that ) .
So i went to the playstore to redownload it , it was £2.99 or something for the PRO version so to save looking for other the stuff i just purchased that. - but i still had to find the free version of it which i did. and installed it (EVERYTHING was working ok )
Then it said something install this binary normal or TWRP so i clicked normal and it said requires a reboot. then my phone was just in a pulsing state forever.
so i loaded up TWRP and just factory reset and it still never done nothing. -
Where do i go from here do i try to install a rom or something am stuck. -( last time i followed tutorial that was in march and it all worked fine until i uninstalled that today ) can you point me in the right direction Thanks guys.

Restore your backup from twrp
I went ahead and followed this guys
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/development/rom-galaxy-s8-t3749171
Information and it got me back into a working state.
I checked in TWRP and it never had a backup.
Other than that i now need to install SuperSU# again to gain root access.
Just going to browse through ways of doing it now. If you not busy and you know where to look can you link it for me. Thanks.

Flash magisk, it's so much better than supersu and has loads of modules to try also. Just my opinion though
I am glad you said that because i was looking for a SuperSu zip and it seems to be out dated.
Also Left you a Thanks! for your time
