Hi
Just wanted to share with you a little something I do that works for me.
Every time we wipe everything and flash a new ROM, the ROM flies. But a lot of us (not all of us) start noticing that after we start changing settings, installing apps, uninstalling apps, and so on, a little sluggishness can occur, as can obviously be expected. One thing I persoanlly do, is after I install all my programs back onto the phone, is go back into recovery, wipe my Dalvik and cache, (I use morfic's dalvik wiper, thanks to him for that):
https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/dalvik-wiper-1.zip?w=259589c0
and simply re-install my ROM, without a factory data reset.
I've tried just wiping the dalvik and cache and rebooting, but doesn't seem to do the same for some reason. Someone much more intelligent than I and more knowledgeable than I could provide that reason I'm sure
Just want to get some feedback if this seems to improve the usability of the ROM for other people as well after a crapload of installed apps. Post a post, let me know
Ciao!

Thanks Allgamer
I have read this thread in the past, however, finding a rogue app that slows phone/eats battery or managing the amount of apps Installed etc is not what I was aiming for. I found that reinstalling the ROM itself again AFTER such suggestions in your thread for example (which are great ideas, i use dropbox myself) really seems to help.

clearing my dalvik regularly helps keep my phone in tiptop performance. i wont even reflash the rom, just flash that dalvik-wiper.zip or delete the dalvik files manually with root explorer(then reboot immediately) when i have a spare minute.
titanium backup has that option to clean the dalvik cache
no need to do any fancy stuff to clear that

true, but yet not true. it does have an option to "clean" your dalvik, but it doesnt wipe your dalvik. when you actually wipe your dalvik, the system rebuilds it fresh when you boot up. heres a screenshot of titanium backups dalvik clean, lol. you can wipe your dalvik in recovery too, but clockwork recovery doesnt wipe all the files, twrp recovery wipes the dalvik though.

good point, yes that is true
i often have to end up manually deleting other system / apps left over junks as well, specially for stuff that was uninstalled already, but they leave dalvik stuff behind and on the sd card as well, inside android, and other similar places

The SD card junk is definitely a problem. I find that SD Maid works well if you use it properly.
I think that because as you say, there is junk left over in android after uninstalling programs , that a re-flash of the ROM helps clean some of it up while still keeping all of your apps you want untouched. Please correct me if I am wrong?

Hi, I tried to find this dalvik-cleaner.zip on my self but had no luck so far. Could s/o maybe tell me where to get it? Thanks in advance
Will that improve stability on the phone?, I mean cleaning the Dalvik?, will that help eliminating the random freezes while using BT? or games or the browser (all this is random probably once every 2 or 3 days)

You can find the zip in the first post here.......

ahhhhh...........gone todash..............
With issues like random reboots or freezes you should probably check into the kernel or rom you are using if others in those threads are having the same reboots/freezes while performing the same actions. Obviously never hurts to do the wipe though.

i always make sure i have enough space to do an upgrade, or install a new app
however this error keeps poping up very often
another similar error is
Unknown
error - 18
these 2 errors are very easy to reproduce when you select the UPDATE ALL button in Market
or even when trying to upgrade or install 3 or more apps at a time
seems like whatever is the default size for the TEMP cache is too small
If any one knows which line of code we can edit to assign it more space, that should solve the problem
I've gotten this and I have hardly anything installed so it was obviously a mistake. I tried to install right after and it worked fine. There's so many random bugs on this thing. Ugh

I get this every so often on my phone as well. It's moderately annoying, but usually just trying to reinstall the app works for me.
i fixed my problem with getting unsuccessful downloads. this is what i did... open titanium backup, press backup/restore, find download manager in the list of apps and press on it, then press wipe data. and it worked
Just thinking loudly !!!
Could not your problem be related to USB ON/OFF mode? i.e. you might be trying to install an app from the market while your phone attached to your PC via USB and USB mode is ON on the phone. So, your SDCard is read only mode somehow.

Worth looking into, but it should only be an issue if he's using apps2sd (or whatever it's called in Gingerbread). Apps are installed to /data/apps unless you've pushed them to the sdcard.

i did the same but it was only done for the market app, not yet for the download manager

that's not the cause
as it works fine (install / upgrade) if i just hit retry
if the USB was mounted, it would always fail to access the internal SD, the market will always be unable to download/install

Same problem for me, I have stock 2.3.2

happened to me twice today updating my apps but when you reinstall it goes through
i only had the problem on custom ROMs
after i flashed back to stock ROM it works great
i can hit "update all" and 15+ apps are downloading/installing at the same time without problem
I continue to have these market problems with CM7 - and had exactly the same with custom roms on my Hero
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
Seems to be IO related. I can reproduce by copying large files to/from /system or /sdcard
Large being defined as 25MB+
I only get this error when i try to install 2 apps at the same time. I.e. when my apps r being restored from market after factory reset. Or when an app from market is being installed and i try to install one downloaded from xda at the same time
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
I have also been getting this error on stock 2.3.3
I get this error too, and I'm not rooted. It happens when I press 'update all'. When I manually update that app after the error, it updates just fine.
It's not really annoying or anything, it just happens. But it's not related to Custom ROMs.

That's what's worked for me when I've had this issue come up on my Vibrant. I can't attest to it being an update problem with the ROM or a problem with the footprint restored when I reload my apps using Titanium, but the Wipe Data has done the job.
All else failing reinstalling the app has worked. The one time the reinstall didn't (error code message instead of insufficient storage) I had to wipe the cache for the Market (Google Play) app to get it to work.

Nope, wiping data will remove the ROM as well so you'll end up with a phone that won't boot.
When you flash a ROM -> Wipe Data/Cache/Dalvik
When you flash a THEME -> Wipe nothing
When you flash a kernel -> Wipe Dalvik and optionally battery stats
Before you flash ANYTHING -> Backup!

Wiping data means wiping data... You can do a data wipe or data factory reset anytime you please and YOU WILL NOT end up with a phone that doesn't boot you will end up with a phone that has no data meaning anything you previously downloaded ex apps from that market themes from the market any text messages that may be in your phone will all be gone.. In your phone if you unpack a ROM any ROM it doesn't matter you have meta inf system and boot when you start downloading ish you creating data so if you used root explorer you can access the file system and find as soon as you open it a folder called data that is what's being wiped.. If you on the other hand useppd Clockwork and mounted the system and reformatted the system reformatted is a fancy way of saying delete and clean up lol... That's on a factory shipped ROM or custom.. So feel free to wipe data any time you please if your okay with losing apps and reinstalling them after or you can use Titanium backup and back all your apps up from one location... This reply was not to be a **** either this is just enlighting those who did not know and maybe had some doubts or concerns... Wiping cache or dalvik cache is not a bad thing either all though you don't have to wipe dalvik flashing a theme it's just a good habit to get in to.. Installing a new ROM always read the thread the OP or DEV explains stuff specifically for a reason and it's good to wipe all when switching to a new ROM unless your doing something like ibangedyourmomrom v1 and updating to ibangedyourmomrom v2 unless the dev specifically says this is a full wipe upgrade or the dev says it's not neccessary to do a full wipe!!! Well I hoped I helped some people out and at least 1 person has a better understanding!!! Alright I'm out, peace!!
Whoops.... Sorry Master you beat me to it!! lol
I love ibangedyourmomrom v2...so snappy on my phone!
Hmm, I get a FC every time I bring up the keyboard...
Did a full wipe before flashing.
Having some problems with this...gps not working...even after wiping (cache, data, dalvik) twice..kernel is still the custom kernel from my last Rom. Same thing with the odexed version.

Custom ROMs is one of the most favorite thing here and we all keep flashing every latest and greatest ROMs for our devices. Sometimes we face errors in this process like "UIDs on your system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable"

Generally it comes after flashing new ROMs. Wiping data partition is not always desirable.

Thanks to @qwertyass and @adamdavid72 to bringing it to my knowledge :good:

2. Give it Root permission
3. Go into App Manager tab
4. Hit Menu and select "Multi-select"
5. Now select "Select All"
6. Click Menu and hit "Fix Permissions"
7. Exit the app once it has fixed all the Permissions
8. Reboot your device.
Error should have gone.

Hi guys, when I flashed DN3 rom, I noticed when I send a USSD request, it comes up in chineese instead of English. Please any fix for this?
I use note 2 n7105
Currently running DN3 ROM.
TWRP Permissions fix did the trick for me. Glad I didn't wipe my data.
this didn't work with fix permission for me.
my mothers phone was really f*cked, tried restoring old backups, tried full wipe, of all kinds, "for new ROM" "factory reset" change recovery.
but allways and with new fresh ROM install after full wipe it would FC everything, the device was compleatly useless.
the only thing that worked for me was to format the data partition with TWRP
did not work on my i777. TWRP not available for this phone. No solution, yet
Systen UID inconsistent appeared on my phone a few weeks after flashing a new rom, I did fix permissions with rom toolbox because my CWM version doesn't have fix permissions. Now what happened is that this fix permission crap messed up with all the apps that I had on ext3, remounted, cleaned dalvik cache etc. nothing worked... Apps are showing as not installed, I had to clean the ext3 and start all over again installing apps.. pfff..
Inconsistent results
Weird....for me it sometimes does the trick. Other times, I need to use the fix permissions option in ROM Manager. Sometimes, neither does the trick.
It seems like timing is a thing. I have the most success with this when flashing a new ROM and logging in with my Google account, I can interrupt all of the Play Store downloads that are trying to restore, and all of the app updates that it is trying to do. From here I usually download Rom Toolbox and Rom Manager and try to fix permissions immediately.
But again, even these steps do not always work for me. Frustrating too, because now it is not working for me on a ROM that I really want to give a try. And with this error, I can not get Hangouts to work (constant FC.)
Hi,
I'm sorry if it is not working for you.
Maybe I'm a bit lucky that it worked for me all the times.
Tip: If your Recovery supports Fix Permissions try that first.

Hey, thanks for this tip. This worked for me. I have an oppo find 7, was restoring apps using titanium backup to my device when the error started coming. I followed your suggestion, the log file (uiderrors.txt) showed instagram was the culprit. But the strange part was the instagram wasn't even installed! So I used SD Maid to find corpses on my sd and instagram showed up on corpses list. After that I just cleared the corpses and the device ran perfectly fine without any errors. Thank you so much!
Thanks, it worked for my OPO CM11s.
Inconsistent UID with Stock Rom
Hi, I'm on stock Android 4.4.2 (GT-N7100), and I've never rooted this phone.
I'm getting the "Inconsistent System UID" error, I've done a hard reset 2 times but now, after a few days, I'm still getting the error.
The first time the phone became unusable with the message that appeared every time I touch the phone to do something; now I see the error only at reboot.
My phone is affected by SDS (sudden death syndrome), I've sent it to my carrier assistance the past year without results.
Are these two problems correlated?
How can I solve UID error?
Thank you
Fabrizio
I'm on an s5 neo, rooted but using the same software it came with.
I decided to try a factory reset, as I had done a few things I can't undo, like removing mtp application, with a root app remover whose restore function doesn't work on this device.
I was also thinking, that instead of personalizing everything, and downloading everything, and then debloating, I thought I'd start fresh and then debloat first.
Thank *god*I had gotten brave enough to download and install twrp and make a backup, that back up is where I am coming to you from now.
I used the twrp recommended wipe for the reset, not custom wipe. Worked fine. Powered back on. All looked well until I came across a screen that said "just a sec..." For an extremely long time, like 10 minutes...
Why wouldn't it fully turn on, any ideas? As of now I can't factory reset ever again.... :/ and I'd like to be able to.
I hasn't disabled anything crazy and could reboot normally before I tried the wipe. I just don't get what went wrong?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I cant even start off with a new rom I don't think, they're all made for the 903m or 903f versions of this phone, and I'm on the international 903w. I'm guessing some thing significant is different or else it would just be called the 903.

Well, with a bootloop you can go to recovery and recipe, then wipe data then go to advanced options in twrp and delete the Android folder in both internal and external and that should fix the issue
Recipe? I should proof read this stuff before I post it. It should have said reset, not recipe
Like, as in deleting the "system" folder, should I have wiped that too?
Or would that totally erase this current android version? And I'd be even more stuck?

No, go to advanced options, file manager, then to either storage, touch the Android folder, hit the check mark in the lower right, select delete, swipe to confirm. Do this with both storages. It's not the system folder and doesn't contain anything that isn't rebuilt upon boot. But it does contain stuff from your previous install that is known to cause bootloops when going from an Android version to another. Nothing to worry about when you delete those folders. It's been the source of tons of bootloops for me
So, the android folder, in my case, I think I've only got the one internal storage path. I'd have to double check but I'm pretty sure. I have technically for some reason a bunch of storages called "USB drive". But I think they're all empty. And I think sd card and emulated lead to the same place. Its a weird setup lol
I just took a screen shot of it, I'll add it in here

Don't do it from within the system. Do it from within twrp
Here, I made a little video. I'm a 100% amateur videographer, so go easy on me lol
***I tried searching for an existing thread but couldn't find one so if there is one that somehow didn't see please redirect me.
After updating to 7.1.1 using the image file from google (w/full factory reset and i'm not rooted either is that's important) my storage is showing that the System is using 92.3GB of my 128GB. How is that even possible!?
Anyone else run into this?

I appreciate the reply but I don't think you're fully understanding my issue that I've stated. The issue is that the System itself is showing as taking up 92.3GB of storage. Plus, wiping my cache would be a fraction of that amount and would be negligible.
Like I stated already, this is specifically the System being populated and is only happening after updating to 7.1.1 with a completely fresh install. All i did was install my apps afterwards....

My apps are taking up exactly 5.37GB of storage. Here's a storage analysis from ES File Explorer of my app usage:

Have you tried wiping everything in TWRP and formating then going. Back to stock with NRT toolkit

For now I'm saving that as my next step if I can't get any other suggestions today.
***side note, I'm currently doing a full nandroid backup (including apps/data) and it's telling me that it's backing up 8.47GB
Do you have a ton of nandroid backups? That's a ton of space.

Nope. Like I said, this is showing up after a fresh install of 7.1.1. I was just doing a nandroid backup preparing to do a full format.
I ended up doing a full wipe, still shows up as 92.31 GB of system storage usage. Then I just got done doing another fresh install of 7.1.1 from a brand new image download from Google. Still the same. After doing another full wipe after doing another fresh install it's still showing the same. I've done full wipes using the TWRP and I've tried a full wipe using the stock reset function with the stock recovery. No go...
Nothing seems to work...

Does this mean you flashed a factory image? If not, read up on this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928/page524
Do not use a toolkit. Learn to do it manually first. Use fastboot and manually flash all of the factory image files. If the problem persists after a factory image flash, you could contact Google or Huawei and report the issue and see if they will replace it for you.
Have had this happen to me in the past. You will need to wipe your storage and start with a clean flash with whichever, ROM or factory image.

Before that you could root your device to get full access to the file system to find where's your space is going. Also a simple df -H in android terminal will tell you the real remaining space on /data without even rooting. If there's an inconstancy raise a google problem report.
When you said "full factory reset" you mean you used the flash-all.bat from factory image?

HI all, to answer some of your questions:
1. Yes, i manually flash all images, not through a rootkit
2. Yes, I used flash-all.bat
3. Yes, I am rooted and have checked to make sure of the exact amount of storage the entire system is actually using.
a. found out that the system itself was occupying just over 3GB
b. while doing a full nandroid backup (including data) it stated that it was backing up roughly 8-9GB
Here's the very weird part of this that I stumbled on last night. I ran the whole process again from formatting (including storage) and manually flashing images. Once it was done I ran through the google setup process with a "fresh" install (vs restoring from cloud backup). Upon checking the system storage usage it was perfectly normal. 4GB out of 128GB. Here's the twist. I proceeded to do a factory reset, and through the initial google setup process, this time I used a restore from my google cloud backup. After the process was completed, and setup was done. The system storage was showing 92.31GB of usage. ?????????
In order to test out what was happening I pulled out my Huawei P9 and formatted it, did initial google setup including restoring from the same account backup. When it was done I checked the system storage and whaddya know...it's normal at around 4GB. Just for ****z and gigglez I tried the same on my older S6 Edge. Same thing. System Storage usage was normal after using the restore function from the cloud backup.
Why would my backup through Google cause that? and why would it only affect my Nexus 6P?

So df -H /data reports the same usage?
/system is by design like 3GB (and nearly full) so the "system" in settings must also account for other things than /system. Only /data has that amount of data.
Once you've confirmed that /data is indeed so much used, download an app like Disk Usage to spot what's eating your space?
I think your issue is flashing the userdata partition.
Instead of doing the flash-all.bat, manually flash each file separately.
Skip flashing the userdata portion - only format userdata - and then when all are done, format cache and reboot.
