unable to mount /data. pd15img won't restore anything :( - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

-I was on virtous 2.35 then I tried to flash 2.37. I went to recovery and hit /mount data to wipe /data partition I kept getting unable to mount /data in recovery. I have fixed this issue before by just applying the pd15img.zip file in hboot.
I was on the ENG hboot
rooted with visionary on the GOOD eMMC SEM04G 2.17GiB
and now when I tried running pd15img.zip
it says
1.bootloader ok
2. boot ok
3. recovery ok
4. system fail- UZ
5.userdata- ok
6. splash 1- ok
7. tp
8. tp bypassed
9. radio v2 ok
10. radio cust ok
Image unzipping fail
update fail!
press power to reboot.
Any help? Did I break my eMMC chip? do I have to go in for a warranty exchange (I heard tmo stopped giving mytouch 4g replacements rather they are giving g2's?)
what to do?
update 1: /data has been successfully mounted!
what I did was use use a fresh SDCARD formatted with fat32 from windows with
this pd15img (second on the list)- This file contains the new Clockworkmod 5.0.2.0 and the Eng H-Boot 85.2007 (note that I have s= off)
from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200147
flashing 2.35 right now wish me luck :S
update 2: first flash didn't work after mytouch 4g splash screen phone is restarting, doing second flash. If this doesn't work I will try flashing a pd15img with a mysense leak in it.
update 3: looks like 2nd flash is GO! at VU loading screen!
Issue has been resolved (once again by me -.-)
thnx anyways guys.

Why don't you just do a regular full data wipe and reflash the rom? I've never had to mount data to wipe.

Not sure why but everytime I do regular wipe and then flash VU it doesn't work. I have to manually mount /system, /cache, and /data and then wipe.

glad you got your issue fixed, but it does seem a little weird that you have to do all that just to flash a rom I usually just wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik, then format system and Im good to go. never had any issues that way, no mounting or anything

My G1 wont recover :'(

My T-Mobile G1 wont recover when i choose any of the options my phone still doesent go back to normal here are the exact words on the screen.
Android System Recovery <2e>
Use the trackball to highlight:
click to select
reboot system now [Home+ Back]
apply sdcard: update. Zaip [Alt+S]
wipe data/factory reset [Alt+W}
Wipe cache partition
E:Can't open / cache/recovery/command
the last 1 isn't an option and i want to get my phone back to normal some one please HELP ME!!!!!
Fasboot the files you need. I'm unclear of exactly what you want to do so I can not provide commands for you. Are you looking to Nand restore or something else?
I think their recovery is just fine, but they wiped after updating which is giving them the illusion that their phone is busted.
Just go back into recovery and apply update.zip without any wipes or clears this time then reboot see if that works.

error mounting /data- brick? LOL

I tried reflashing a sense 3.0 2.3.3 rom because of some minor issues. Now I may have nuked my /data partition. first it wouldn't format so I pulled battery numerous times. and Mounted it through mounts and storage menu, then I hit format, and it formatted, so I hit mount again and flashed the rom. and when I restarted the phone after splash screen the phone restarted and went into recovery
Tried everything including mounting /data again and it keeps saying error mounting /data. am I screwed?
I have .2007 eng bootloader btw. shoud I try the pd15img?

I don't think you need to do that. You could do a fastboot erase, then go back into recovery and wipe data to reformat it /data, effectively starting from nothing.

Now I am getting mount /cache errors. aww man I think my phone is done....
edit: used the pd15img and I am back on stock :| s= off but I have the stock bootloader wtf.... how do I get my eng bootloader back?
this is how I fixed it:
I was on eng bootloader, but then I got reverted back to the stock bootloader.
This is how I encountered the problem. first of all I was having issues with raffy's fusion 3.0 rom, so I decided to reflash it, but it wouldn't flash or format /data, then I mounted it to through mounts and storage on the latest cwm 3.0.2.4 and hit format.
After that I tried reflashing his rom, it flashed but, after splashscreen I was redirected to my recovery instead. that's when I freaked because when I tried mounting data it said error cannot mount /data. so I fired up adb and did fastboot erase system -w and it erased it including cache.
then I popped up into recovery and BOOM started having cache mount errors experienced by a lot of people lately.
I thought I was SOL, but nope I downloaded the pd15img from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V4NAODYZ
and put it on the root of my sd card and it worked....
so if anyone of you dudes are having similar problems try that ^

[Q] Why does my evo hate new ROMs now?

Thankfully I have nandroids of Vaelpak and Myn2.2. I have tried synergy, stock rooted GB, and I can't remember the other two over the last couple days. Each time, it goes like this:
-Nandroid (typically from Rom manager out of laziness)
-Reboot into recovery
-wipe data/cache/dalvik (last few times I did this over and over)
-install zip of new rom
-boot loop
-pull battery and restore backup
I use CM 3.0.0.5 and have also tried RA 2.2.2.
I'm s-off (unrevoked forever).
My SD card is the last thing I can think of. I think I have to format and partition it (I know there are guides here...just never needed it). I just don't get it, I went through a phase where I was doing a new ROM every couple days and never had this issue. Thoughts?
Download Amon Ra 2.3, use as PC36ING.zip. Back up SD card to desktop. Format SD card, then partition it. Look in General or Development for a guide. Mount as MS (mass storage) and transfer files back, leaving out Android.secure, Android, RosieScroll, GoSMS and similar temporary folders and files. Nandroid, wipe system, data, dalvik, cache, factory reset, boot, android.secure and SDext twice. I would suggest VR Superwipe too. Flash new ROM and tweaks (if it is 2.3 Sense probably keep stock kernel). Reboot, enjoy new ROM.
Clockworkmod and AmonRa backups are not compatible.

Other than getting amon 2.3 and copying the files back this was pretty much my plan. I was only going to restore my astro app backups after I get things running again. I do have VR superwipe...never worked with CM on the version I have.
Any reason other than preference for amon 2.3 (maybe the VR superwipe)? If I leave the SD blank but partitioned and just put the ROM back on it, is that an ok idea? I have it backed up...don't know if I have to have the file structure there.
also downgrading CWM down to 2.6.0.1 helped me flash the newer files and scripts as well if you dont like Amon 2.3. Just a thought!
As someone else suggested, you should either use a 'superwipe' script (flashable in recovery) or include /system in your wipe routine.
I don't get why people never wipe /system. That's where the entire ROM lives. If you don't wipe /system, then you are just flashing all kinds of ROMs on top of each other and you end up with a jungle of files from various ROMs all mixed together.
You might get lucky, many ROM devs account for this and wipe your /system partition for you before flashing the new files.

Agreed. I don't believe in superwipes. But I DO agree to manually wile each category, except SD Card, including system.
What worked for me..
I had to upgrade my HBOOT from:
EVO_HBoot_0.76.2000
to
EVO_HBoot_0.97.0000
to load the Synergy ROM.
No wipe, wipe utilities, formats or partitions would work. Upgrading the HBoot fixed the boot loop issue... for me.

I am on the older HBOOT also. I will try this if the SD wipe and partition fails me. It could be this since it's recent ROMS giving me issue.
To the wipe /system comments...I did that one time for sure. Not each.

Please help me get my G2 back to running nicely :)

I have screwed with my G2 a bit too much...
I bought it 2nd hand with CM7, then I screwed with it a bit, loading different ROMs, trying (and failing) to put the DZ Hboot on it, and other things.
Now, I have CM7 back on it but with the wallpaper that has carried over from BlissSense and the USB connectivity that wont work, nor will Settings open.
Could anyone tell me how to COMPLETELY wipe my phone and start again?
ROM manager isn't working well either, when I try to install a new ROM it reboots but just freezes on the HTC splash screen and doesnt make it into recovery.
Well 2 options:
1) COMPLETELY unroot and start over with the wiki/gfree method to get a good root etc.
2) Simply run ROM manager, flash an older recovery (I'm assuming it wont boot into recovery because its on a 5.x.x.x bad flash). I recommend just flashing the 3.0.2.4 version. After that, download a new ROM .zip (CM7 or whatever you want), put it on your SDcard. Enter recovery, do a COMPLETE wipe, clear everything, and flash the new ROM.
Don't backup any apps or anything. Just start over from scratch with this new ROM flash.
are you able to get into recovery at all though? if you can, search up SuperwipeG2+ in the dev forum and run that. that should wipe your phone 110% so you can install CM7 again.

Thanks,
1) - I will try that after I try 2, but I will have to look it up cause I have no idea how to unroot.
2) Ok, I went into ROM manager and flashed 3.0.2.4, then i entered recovery, these are my options:
-reboot system now
-apply update from sdcard
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-install zip from sdcard
-backup and restore
-mounts and storage
-advanced
-power off
What do I do now?
1. wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache partition
3. install zip from sdcard > seect ROM that I want
Ok, well I did this:
-Downloaded and put SuperwipeG2 on my sdcard (not SuperwipeG2+ cause I dont have GPS issues)
-Flashed Recovery 3.0.2.4 (Which was a downgrade)
-Rebooted to recovery
-installed from zip > superwipeG2
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-install zip from sdcard > CM7.0.3.zip
Now it is a real nice fresh CM7!
Thanks GUYS!
Can I ask one more question?
I ran the PC10IMG.zip update to give my G2 a Desire Z HBoot (which was sucessful, vr no. is now .84 where as the old G2 was .76).
But when I go to System > about phone > system memory = 370MB
And data mem = 1.05GB
So I lost the usual 300MB from data mem but didnt make the 200MB gain in system mem!!! what happened?

Cannot flash any ROM's

Hello, I have recently been unable to flash ROM's succesfully.
I have Clockwork MOD 4.0.0.2 installed as it came with CF-Root, and I am on stock 2.3.5 KI3.
I have tried flashing several roms, and while it says install complete, whenever it restarts, it is on a boot loop, where it won't go past the Galaxy S II bit with the yellow triangle, I have to flash the stock rom again using odin to even use the phone, I have tried to flash other recovery versions, like 4.0.0.14 and 5.1.2.6 (I think it is) but they all come up with errors mounting or getting recovery.log or something, could you please help?
Did you try to do a full wipe?
Most issues can be resolved by this.
In the CWM menu chose the factory reset/full wipe. (Don't worry it won't touch your files on the internal SD card)
Do a cache wipe and in the advanced menu do a dalvik cache wipe.
Some recommend to do this procedure twice, but you should be settled with doing it once
Let me know if it helped?

Yeah I did all that, didn't help, the progress bar gets half way and says complete :S I have downloaded the ROMs several times aswell incase they were corrupt, still didn't help.
Take out the battery, wait a bit, put it back in. Do all the wipe and formatting procedures (perhaps twice) and format the internal sd card as well and wipe the battery stats (just to be sure)

That's probably not a bad idea.
