error mounting /data- brick? LOL - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried reflashing a sense 3.0 2.3.3 rom because of some minor issues. Now I may have nuked my /data partition. first it wouldn't format so I pulled battery numerous times. and Mounted it through mounts and storage menu, then I hit format, and it formatted, so I hit mount again and flashed the rom. and when I restarted the phone after splash screen the phone restarted and went into recovery
Tried everything including mounting /data again and it keeps saying error mounting /data. am I screwed?
I have .2007 eng bootloader btw. shoud I try the pd15img?

I don't think you need to do that. You could do a fastboot erase, then go back into recovery and wipe data to reformat it /data, effectively starting from nothing.

Now I am getting mount /cache errors. aww man I think my phone is done....
edit: used the pd15img and I am back on stock :| s= off but I have the stock bootloader wtf.... how do I get my eng bootloader back?
this is how I fixed it:
I was on eng bootloader, but then I got reverted back to the stock bootloader.
This is how I encountered the problem. first of all I was having issues with raffy's fusion 3.0 rom, so I decided to reflash it, but it wouldn't flash or format /data, then I mounted it to through mounts and storage on the latest cwm 3.0.2.4 and hit format.
After that I tried reflashing his rom, it flashed but, after splashscreen I was redirected to my recovery instead. that's when I freaked because when I tried mounting data it said error cannot mount /data. so I fired up adb and did fastboot erase system -w and it erased it including cache.
then I popped up into recovery and BOOM started having cache mount errors experienced by a lot of people lately.
I thought I was SOL, but nope I downloaded the pd15img from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V4NAODYZ
and put it on the root of my sd card and it worked....
so if anyone of you dudes are having similar problems try that ^

[Q] Bricked SGS

I have a SGS that does boot, only thing is i flashed the phone like 20 times with KIES and Odin, also re-partitioned the thing, still its leaving al the apps and setting.
When its done booting and going into the wizzard is give the error "UIDs are inconsistend" and shows the "I'm feeling lucky" button.
i have tried everything, but i cant fix the problem.. i also flashed the phone to 2.3.3 and than flashed a pre-root kernel with cLW recovery and formated everything, still everything is still on the phone, even when i connect the phone trough usb and format the internal SD and disconnect the phone, everything is still there!
Any ideas to fix this or is it just a hardware failure?
try damian gto kernel
and use wipe system setting erases every thing include sd

unable to mount /data. pd15img won't restore anything :(

-I was on virtous 2.35 then I tried to flash 2.37. I went to recovery and hit /mount data to wipe /data partition I kept getting unable to mount /data in recovery. I have fixed this issue before by just applying the pd15img.zip file in hboot.
I was on the ENG hboot
rooted with visionary on the GOOD eMMC SEM04G 2.17GiB
and now when I tried running pd15img.zip
it says
1.bootloader ok
2. boot ok
3. recovery ok
4. system fail- UZ
5.userdata- ok
6. splash 1- ok
7. tp
8. tp bypassed
9. radio v2 ok
10. radio cust ok
Image unzipping fail
update fail!
press power to reboot.
Any help? Did I break my eMMC chip? do I have to go in for a warranty exchange (I heard tmo stopped giving mytouch 4g replacements rather they are giving g2's?)
what to do?
update 1: /data has been successfully mounted!
what I did was use use a fresh SDCARD formatted with fat32 from windows with
this pd15img (second on the list)- This file contains the new Clockworkmod 5.0.2.0 and the Eng H-Boot 85.2007 (note that I have s= off)
from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200147
flashing 2.35 right now wish me luck :S
update 2: first flash didn't work after mytouch 4g splash screen phone is restarting, doing second flash. If this doesn't work I will try flashing a pd15img with a mysense leak in it.
update 3: looks like 2nd flash is GO! at VU loading screen!
Issue has been resolved (once again by me -.-)
thnx anyways guys.
Why don't you just do a regular full data wipe and reflash the rom? I've never had to mount data to wipe.

Not sure why but everytime I do regular wipe and then flash VU it doesn't work. I have to manually mount /system, /cache, and /data and then wipe.

glad you got your issue fixed, but it does seem a little weird that you have to do all that just to flash a rom I usually just wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik, then format system and Im good to go. never had any issues that way, no mounting or anything

[Q] Unable to mount data after restoring partition

Guys, need help. I used this way way back (genokolar partition) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112857 Im planning to go for ICS yesterday, i flash back the official partition, now my phone stuck at IDEOS logo. Stuck at Ideos screen. Then i clear and wipe still the same. Then i go to the pink screen, restore back the original recovery and BOOT files, and flash back the official froyo, error at 2/2 update. I cant mount data in cmw. Tried factory reset in recovery but no luck, got error msg ( Mount data error ) using 4.0.0.5. I cant delete/wipe data.Keep giving me error mount data. Even in official recovery cant mount, got msg ( no such directories,Can't Mount @(or/dev/block/mmcblk0p13 ). Is this the problem ? How can i mount the data back?

Can't mount sd? Go to recovery, take your sd out, and put it back in. If that works, you try flahing the custom partition again (not the original partition). After that, try flashing a rom.
Edit: but try to flash the original again first. Make sure you flash it, reboot recovery, flash it again, reboot recovery, and then flash your rom.

[Q] Can't mount /data after Quarx's CM 10.2

After installing Quarx's CM 10.2 october 30th nightly (defy, not plus) the device seemed to be working normal but I then soon noticed that no internal storage is detected. (meaning I also could not install apps from the play store) Upon restarting, I go through the entire 'first time' sequence again and any thing I did before I restarted was not saved. I think this is because, when entering TWRP and going to mount, data is the only partition that it will not allow me to mount. Attempting to wipe the data partition yields the result 'unable to mount /data'. Is it possible to mount somehow in adb or terminal? Is anyone else having this issue? And is there any known fix?

Well , I had this problem too , but not with this ROM , enter in Motorola stock recovery , and make a wipe , after that , you should flash again a SBF , and put it again.. , or if you can still flash something , try to flash the 10.2 CM again.

But it won't let me. :/ Like I said before, attempting to wipe the data partition just gives me 'Unable to mount /data'. Does that mean the partition is corrupted, or can it be mounted somehow in the terminal? This has really become a headache...
As an update, I actually was able to wipe in the stock recovery, but going back to TWRP now shows that both my data and cache partitions cannot be mounted (or still corrupted). Would flashing a new sbf fix that? I can still access cyanogen if I boot normally but it is the same as before, no internal storage and nothing is saved after reboot.

Got stuck at formatting cache in the latest TWRP (I9505 - jfltexx)

Phone is working, I suppose doing his job in the process. The problem is that I am waiting already 20 minutes. I am afraid of getting CPU burnt (it is at 51 grades of Celsius).
I have read about the issue and about also the solution [enabling rm -rf in the twrp settings]... But now I am in the process, so not sure if I should shut the phone down or not..
Did you do a factory reset or advanced wipe?
I used advanced wipe, I got really angry with formatting so I removed the battery ... but now I have a problem: failed to mount system... I installed the twrp through odin... And before that I did not do anything, do I have to unlock bootloader or something like that?

No. Your bootloader is already unlocked, otherwise it wouldn't have let you flash TWRP.
Have you tried factory reset? Or mounting system manually?
You can also try to mount system by using TWRP's built-in terminal emulator.
Now I flashed 4.4.2 with and Odin, phone was ok. Then I flashed latest twrp and now the system was mounted. I did a backup and wiped all again with advanced wipe. Then I tried to install ROM but it fell again to a error 7 - system not mounted. How can I mount it manually? what command is that?

Error 7 means the ROM is not compatible with your model.
Have you tried different version of twrp?
That was a really terrible testing day... I tried every twrp till version 2.8.6 that worked after odin flashing. I managed to mount system and do all wipes. I flashed ROM and gapps, everything went smoothly... But the thing was that the phone started to shut down by itself. Without a message, simply black screen and restart and bootloop after samsung logo. I decided to load 4.4.2 stock with repartitioning (pit file)... 10 hours ok and then again shutting down by itself.
Have you experienced this kind of behaviour?
