[Q] Cannot get into recovery mode after rooting by using super one click method

Hello all,
I have been using the super one click method to root my HTC Magic Saphhire 32A.
It works well so far albeit need to alter some SU files in the program. Running of terminal emulator with the command prompt SU confirmed that I have the superuser rights.
Now the problem is whenever I use ROM manager to reboot in recovery, the phone restart, HTC logo shows, then the next screen I see is a big asterisk and a phone image, after this I pressed Home + power, the screen manage to switch to Android system recovery utility, BUT with only 3 options:
1) Reboot system now
2) Apply sdcard:update.zip
3) Wipe data/factory reset
And in the end of the screen, there is one line highlighted in red: E: can’t open /cache/recovery/command
After the phone been rebooted, I switched off the phone. And Pressed vol - with power button, same issue happen too with the asterisk sign shows on the screen. After unrooting it, the phone recovery mode are back to normal with the 3 androids in skates appear on the screen.
Have anyone face the same problem? Any ways to sort this out? I am planning to back up my stock ROM, and wanted to try out some cyanogenmod ROM. I tried Googled and read lots of forum post but left without a solution. Any helps are appreciated! Cheers!

I have the legend and these is a process of booting the recovery from there as update.zip. have you tried renaming the ROM update.zip and flashing it from there?

I fiddled with the ROm manger setting by choosing "delete recovery prior to flashing", and now it makes it worse.
I selected "reboot in recovery" in ROM manager and the phone reboot, but just stuck at the HTC start up screen.
I plugged in the phone while trying another recovery reboot, and it still stuck at the HTC screen, but with a red line on the top saying "fastboot USB". Gosh I think i am going no way with this...

home and power button down still cant get you in recovery? you cant flash any other working rom?

Did you flash custom recovery with ROM manager? Or you just rooted the phone with 1 click method?

Sorry for the late reply. I am just back from overseas business trips. I used Clockmod ROM Manager and did a backup, tried reboot in recovery, and the phone rebooted itself but stuck at the HTC logo now.
I can confirm that the phone is rooted with super user permission.
The reason being the phone didn't manage to get into recovery mode might be due to the missing recovery.img in the phone. Pushing the img file to phone through Clockmod didn't work apparently, so I tried command prompt from PC fastboot flash recovery c:\recoveryxyz.img. It failed too with an error remote failed.
I tried using the terminal emulator in the phone and tried pushing the recovery image again and it didn't happen too. Can some one please help? Cheers!

Download ROM manager and you have option that says install custom recovery it will install Clockwork, and you have flash alternative recovery it installs amon ra's recovery i prefer most

I have tried flashing alternate ROM through ROM manager and for once it managed to boot into recovery mode. BUT the device hang right after that, I can't select any of the options and have to pull the battery out to force shutdown.
I tried using fastboot flash recovery *.img remotely through my PC while the phone is in fastboot USB mode, and my command prompt stated FAILED (remote: not allow)
Urgh, I think I might have missed something here... Could some one please help? Cheers!
p/s: my objective is to upgrade my stock ROM android 1.5 to cyanogen ROM. Cheers!

OK here is the thing did you chose right model of your phone? HTC magic is 32A and mytouch and something else is for 32B you maybe flashed the wrong one?

I am stuck in trying to install recovery img into the phone. can't boot in recovery mode, tried ROM manager and remote push of recovery img into the phone.

Ok here is the solution for you use this guide but download this apk and this recovery.
If you dont have 1.5 android but 1.6 download Terminal emulator from market and when you start it type first:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2.img

I clicked on backup recovery image, but there is a command prompt that says:" backup FAILED: Could not run command.
FYI, I am running on Android 1.5. On the edge of giving up rooting and loading a custom ROM now and without a MARKET apps on the phone.

Did you try terminal emulator app?
And commands that i gave you?

yes mate, have tried flash_image recovery command from the terminal app and tries to restart in recovery without any result.
I have did a few research and read up and found out that I am stuck with the south east asia Magic model without the google based support, with no market apps and it is perfected SPL.
Quite upset by it. LOL!

[Q] bricked g2 upon custom rec overy

ok so i wanted to flash clockwork 3.0 but i was still running cm 6.1.1 and now i am stuck at the htc boot screen. i also cant get into recovery please i am begging for help.

please someone i really need help i obviously cant use my warranty obviously so please help me restore this or just get it back to working without a root anything

OK,... AFAIK...... If you have flashed ClockworkRecovery 3, the only ROMs that will work are the 2.3 ROMs,... If you are trying to boot up a 2.2 ROM, it is likely to bootloop.
So boot back into recovery, full wipes, then flash a 2.3 ROM,... If that is what you were planning to do.
If you want to keep your 2.2 ROM on,... flash back to an older Clockwork Recovery,... then try to boot? If you get boot loops, try wiping cache and try again. If it still fails I would just do a fresh flash of your ROM again,... Remember full wipes 1st.

the thing was i couldnt even get into recovery because i was running 6.1.1 while on cw3 but i hit simlock from fastboot and that worked but thanks

Can you boot into Hboot screen (phone off then volume-down + power)? If yes try to select recovery from the Hboot screen, it should reboot into recovery, if it doesn't and something is wrong with your recovery, Do you have an Eng. Hboot? , if yes do you have Andriod SDK set up and fastboot? If yes, boot into Hboot, select fastboot from the options, then plug in your usb. Once your device is recognized by fastboot:

should return a serial number + "fastboot"
then reflash ClockWorkMod Recovery 2.5.1.3( you can download it from here:http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html then place the ClockWorkMod Recovery 2.5.1.3( make sure its named recovery.img) into the tools folder in AndriodSDk where Fastboot is located, then run the command :

fastboot reboot
once rebooted your probably gonna be stuck at the HTC screen again, pull the battery, then Volume-down+ power back into Hboot, then select recovery from Hboot screen and it sholud reboot into ClockworkMod recovery, then reflash the rom of your choice.

when flashing rom > E: can't open cache/recovery/command

I've searched on here but can not find an answer for my particluar error.
From Rom Manager I select Install ROM from CD card. When it boots up I get the red exclaimation mark. Then i press volume up and power.
The first thing i see is android recovery with E: can't open cache/recovery/command
According to ROM manager I have ClockwordMod Recovery 2.5.1.3
ever seen this? any way around it?

Try flashing recovery again via ROM manager. For some users flashing it just once doesn't work.

I've tried flashing clockwork a few times. Still no luck..

Do you have ENG S-OFF? If so you could try via fastboot.

i just got another nexus s that had the old 2.3.2 stock rom i unlocked bootloader then tried to use paul obreins superboot to root phone and its screwed now.. it will boot into bootloader but thats it... wont boot into stock rom just sits at google icon with unlock icon and buttons lit but nothing else.,.. anyone that can help get paid right now!!!!!!!!!!

thats the problem i have tried to flash clockwork through adb but it says error something about the partition... do you have a clockwork img download you can link me that you know will work.. agian i was on 2.3.2

Are you using adb or fastboot? Gotta use fastboot

ok did that and it says OKAY and OKAY but when i go to reboot to recovery it just goes back to bootloader.. at the top of the screen in red it says fastboot mode- no boot or recovery img

Your probably booting into the bootloader not recovery...there is no option to scroll to recovery?

well i cant boot into recovery for nothing.. im talking about when your in fastboot mode there is a option to reboot and blah and one for recovery.. i cant get to recovery no matter what i try.. im gonna try odin method

I'm having the exact same problem. How did you solve this? (I'm on a stock, rooted, Nexus S)

As posted, us Odin, first you need to download Odin and the rom to use with it, I think the only one available is a 2.3.1 100% stock, I'll try to get the link for you, on the phone, power it off, and hold down the up/down volume then connect your USB to the phone, you phone should indicate downloading ., from then follow the info posted, I'll get you the link.

Rooting Fail?

Hi,
In December I rooted and installed my first custom ROM I tried again now and wasn't so lucky. Using the Ace Advanced Hack Kit it failed and said press any key to continue so I didn't see why it failed now I am stuck on the HTC green logo, any luck for me to resolve this?

TheHour, you say that were already rooted or I got it wrong? if so there's no need to run the Hack Kit again. Do the following to guide you to sort the issue out...boot in hboot (power + volume down) and tell me if you are S-OFF (it should read something like ACE PVT S-ON or S-OFF)...

Thanks for your reply. I'm new to all of this so I guess I shouldn't have run the hack kit again; I suppose thats why it failed.

ok...there's no need to run the Hack Kit again...you are S-OFF already. Are u able to get in CWM recovery? if so, then just reflash a custom rom and u are done....if you can't access CWM just let me know and i will send u a guide to flash it again...

I don't think I have CWM installed as that just takes me to that ACE PVT SHIP .... screen when I select RECOVERY it just has a red logo. Do I need to download CWM on my SDcard or something? Sorry i'm newbie

Done a bit of research ACE should of installed clockwork to flash the custom ROM? but it didn't and for some reason I don't have it from last time and recovery is the stock one which you can't install non-offical ROM from if I am correct. So how do I flash to the CWM thanks.

Ok....I am back. Follow this:
1. Boot to hboot and choose fastboot
2. Plug the phone (you should see fastboot usb in red)
3. Open a cmd as admin or a terminal as root in the PC
4. Download this file using this command (include the wget) wget https://dl.dropbox.com/u/30674730/cwm-5.0.2.7-ace.zip
the wget command is installed by the Hack Kit...make sure that u have run the hack-ace.cmd script at least once (that will provide adb drivers and some other commands)
5. Once the download is done, type these (case sensitive):
fastboot oem rebootRUU (you will get a black splash with silver HTC letters)
fastboot flash zip cwm-5.0.2.7-ace.zip (it will start flashing)
6. once in the cmd screen says OKAY finished. Type: fastboot reboot-bootloader
then choose recovery and u should be ready to go...if you need help, just let me know...
