i had on order the a100 from a store in the uk and delivery has now been put back until october ... i have looked around on the internet and i can get the a100 for £283 however in the description it is showing honeycombe 3.0 ... i thought the a100 had 3.2 ???
http://www.debenhams-extra.com/DE_ACER_Tablet_10055234/version.asp
are there different a100's ??? im desperate to get my hands on this new 7" but dont want to order the wrong one..
thanks
ps apologies for putting it in the a500 forum but there is no a100 dedicated
It's 3.2. they should put 3.x for the major Honeycomb version 3. A common mistake. A100 are only 3.2 Honeycomb, so if the tablet is a original Acer A100 and not a cheap Chinese copy (didn't see any up today), the os is gonna be 3.2.
there are a lot of uk sellers showing 512mb of ram and honeycomb 3.0 ..... im gonna take the plunge at one ..... hope acer havent changed the spec for some of them !!! ..............
There are mixed reports about the 8gb model...some are saying they have 512mb of ram and some other have 1gb of ram. If you get the 16gb model its has 1gb of ram. I picked up the 16gb model and I am loving it.

Can you confirm 8gb has 1gb ram and 3.2 ? As I don't want 16gb as I have 32gb card
If the 16gb is only one with 1gb ram then I'll have to get this one
Just need to confirm
Thanks
To me Acer made a huge mistake with communication with the A100 !
Why they said 1530 x 2 instead of 3060mah ?
so it's loaded with 1go of RAM and gps on any A100 tabs !
There is something going on in the uk I've just received an email from simply electronics who are showing the iconia a100 having 3.0 I queried this as the price is sub £250 here is the reply of course my reply was ... are they genuine or a grey import as the a100 should have 3.2 ill keep you updated with the response ... but question is why has acer cocked up so much with their information on the product ....

What they mean is that it is a 2 cell 1530mah battery. Not 1530mah x 2 to equal 3060mah. They should have just put that it's a 1530mah battery and left it at that.
The A100 HAS to be on 3.2, it's the only version that supports the 7 inch tablet resolutions. That's why it took so long to be released. Acer had to wait on the new Os version. My A100 8gb most assuredly has 1gb RAM, and I WISH it had a 3000mah battery, this cellphone sized battery is its only real fault.

maybe optimist but on the box There's 1530mah x 2!

Copy and pasted directly from acer's website.
Battery Information
Number of Cells 2-cell
Battery Capacity 1530 mAh
Battery Energy 11.30 Wh
Acer list the battery capacity as 1530 mah. regardless if the battery is 1,2,3,4 cell etc. the battery is only 1530 mah. You can clearly tell by the subpar battery life.
And to get back on subject All a100 tabs are HC 3.2. As stated by reverendbill its the only version of honey comb to support the 7in tablets. Thats why all of the other 7in tabs are running gingerbread and froyo when they were released.

Acer's website said 512mo of RAM also.....
But Acer France told me on twiter 1530mah x 2!
And yes 7' honeycomb need 3.2 to work!
I can assure you from the battery life I get on this thing that it has only 1 battery in it.
It's been said often enough, I do wish people would read... The x2 means it's a 2 cell battery with 1530mAh capacity.

well i have no experience finding out how to root a device, but i am more than happy messing around in a command line and cooking my own roms. but tbh i wouldn't be surprised if this came with a 100% unlocked boot loader and possibly 100% rooted. so hopefully it should just be a simple job of cooking up some roms, well lets just hope

wait one sec are you buying the ipad fake or the white one because i would have thought both would hopefully have the same bootloader hoepfully unlocked. but the ipad fake has a 1.2ghz if i have read correctly
I received my unbranded m001 yesterday. unfortunately it isn't unlocked. But I'm working on figuring out the boot loader mechanism. ADB doesn't seem to find it when I connect it to my computer via the supplied USB cable but I'm still hopeful. I'll post what I can figure out.

is yours the ipad fake or the white one? and does it have market on it?
Had I know of the Ipad fake I would have opted for it ,.but no, its the white one. It does have a market app but not the Android market. So the market enabler or a custom firmware will be needed to make this device really shine. Of course they might release a firmware update when it hits a more mass market status but I wouldn't count on it.
More info about the device.
I was wrong about it not having root access. Seems the file system is wide open. I went ahead and made a su command in /system/bin for good measure but I am still having trouble running programs that require root level access to the system. USB debugging is on but I'm not sure its running.
Below is the information that is returned by lsusb on my linux computer:

thanks dude i might contacts one of the guys that sells them on ebay and be a checky bugger and ask for a promo one that i can review and then link everyone to his account to buy them, could just work
I've sent an e-mail to Eken regarding future software updates...and they completely ignored it and sent me a request to fill out a sale form (how many units I want, address, etc) and they will provide me with "rock bottom price with high quality"
I'm on the edge of getting the M001 just to play around with because it's so cheap, but the Archos 7 Home Tablet has a few features that are just so tempting and the price isn't too much higher (199$).
To those of you who have this already: Does this device support multitouch? The descriptions say it's got a capacitive touch screen, but Chinese knockoff product descriptions are always very sketchy.

i think i read somewhere that one of them had multi touch but then one contradicted that and said it had a resistive touch screen, but tbh multi touch isn't always that much better just as long as its a pretty good quality resistive it isn't that much more work than using a capacitive
Well, if the M001 has a capacitive multitouch-capable screen it would appeal to me more than the higher quality, more storage space Archos 7HT. The A7HT has a resistive screen, 8GB of NAND, 7-8 hours of battery life. M001 has 2 hours battery, 2GB storage, and an unknown touch screen
well i emailed one of the dudes from ebay hopefully he might see sense and give me one for free but i doubt it

yeah resistive could be nicer as its more precise (i think) meaning it could be used easier as a note pad type thing, but i do prefer typing u gotta see my hand writing LOL.
Hey guys, like i said in in the title (and having been on xda for a while) I hate myself for posting a "should i buy" thread, but i think i must have missed something.
As far as i see it the vega has pretty much the same spec as tablets double its price (thinking xoom / eee transforma) and yet the only difference i can see is the shipped android version and 1.2ghs processor vs 1.0ghz in the vega.
I have a HD2 and am happy flashing and running custom roms (running Android on my HD2) so as far as I see it i can get honeycomb flashed in the not too distant future when the boys finish the ROM build and just overclock to 1.4ghz and I am away.
And here in lies my question really, is the touchscreen nice to use? Whats the viewing angle like? HDMI out actually any good in the real world? Anyone use the tablet for work and not just media?
I would like to be able to use an openoffice / MS application on my tablet and if i could connect it up to projectors/tvs via hdmi for presentations and media that would be a real bonus - but only if it actually looks decent and works well.
Thanks for the time taken to read this, I am serious about buying but dont want to waste cash on the vega if people think the eee transforma would be more suitable.
Thanks;
Andy

There is no OO (or LibreOffice or MS office) at all/ There is Google Docs and Pixel Office
Thanks for such a quick reply. Google docs is fine i think but does it work offline on the tablet ok? Whats pixcel office like?
Battery life about as advertised (8hours)
Sorry for rippling questions in, i guess im just trying to work out what i would get extra for over twice the cash in a xoom / eee.
The key difference in price seems to be tied to screen quality and what the big names think they can get away with charging. Clearly the Motorola has a much better screen display than the Vega. However, for the price, the Vega is great for trying things out. There are a number of different user ROM's available and you can see how to push the technology without worrying about messing up your 'expensive' tablet. Also the Vega is UNBRICKABLE.
I use QuickOffice HD on the Vega and find it able to cope with MS Office 2010 Docs and Spreadsheets with no major issues.
I usee quickoffice works a treat also corvus and newbe5 have created a honeycomb port which is still in progress but something to look towards to if you buy one
Thanks for the answers guys. Im actually in a position to buy one vat free at the moment so with the latest dixons price thats £160 for a 10in tablet. Im kind of finding it hard to tell myself the xoom screen would be worth the extra £300 but you guys have the advent what do you think?
Also, whats the max internal storage i can get 16gb microsd? Will USB thumb drives autmount when inserted?
And can you charge the advent via usb?
(I should say im out of the uk at the moment hence why i cant see the advent but can get vat free - gives with one hand..)
Thanks
I have an old-batch Vega, with a worse screen, and I'm not unhappy with it (it can be testy, but it works). The new batch has better screens, more responsive, so the main qualm against the device is partially deflected. For 160 punds you cannot go wrong: it's a super-budget price for a quite capable tablet. Right now there are new smartphones which are not up to the horsepower of an Advent Vega. And if you overclock it... oh boy. 1,4 Ghz at your service. Believe me, the Advent Vega is a steal.
I am running with a 32GB Micro SDHC which I think is the max it can take. You need to get the system into USB Host mode, which needs some changes either to the stock rom, or use one of the very good alternate roms, if you want to plug a USB Stick onto it, but you shouldn't have the need.
I don't think the Xoom is worth the extra at the moment while I am still assessing whether the tablet is an indispensable device for daily use. I do use the Vega daily though and find the screen fine if a little tight on brightness and viewing angle.
There is an over-clock kernel available here now that also gets the Vega to out-perform the Xoom.
32gb would be perfect - and im pretty much mind made up.
Custom ROM
32GB Micro
Overclock to 1.2 as a starter for 10
Android 3 when the boys get round to finishing it.

I´m sorry to borrow your topic but I´m also considering buying this device (or POV Mobii since they pretty much share the same hardware) and no doubt that all this replies help make me rest assured that this is the best low budget tablet around, however I just cannot find a way to order this to Portugal.
I tried Amazon (only shows POV Mobii and for 280 pounds (!) which makes me feel like i´m being robbed) Ebay and other known on-line shops to no success.
Can anyone tell me where can I order this device (and identical ones as told before) on-line within EU? The ones I come across with at Ebay are from UK and none of them ship to Portugal, which is a shame.
Although I have the possibility I refuse to pay 500€+ for a device that otherwise would cost half if there was none of this tablet hype thingy messing with the markets (Shame on you Mr. Jobs).
Any help is appreciated guys.

Hi Badmix.
You can try to order the PoV Mobii Tegra from Amazon.de .. I don't know about the shipping to Portugal, but the Price in DE is 280€. Just try it if the price is ok for you

32Gb - no problem (I have 16gb and don't use it all)

USB drive, mouse n keyboard? - custom kernel (needs reboot) or use the dock station (as I do)

If you are still unclear, Advent are a firm under the Currys/PCWorld brand and only operate in the UK.
If you can find someone who is willing to buy for you (for a 'fee' maybe), then that is prob the best way to go.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for the helpful replies.
I just ordered from a German shop the POV Mobii Tegra for 236£ (270€) and I am pretty sure that I could not have done a better deal for the amount of money i was willing to spend.
Next step: buying a decent case to give my new investment the biggest life spawn possible.

Ebay have a fair few if you want nearly new.
Other than that dixons group have the monopoly on this item sadly.
Okay thanks, another question that is keeping me from buying this is that I'm wondering whether the Vega has multitouch problems like the desire and nexus one, also has anyone played games like Nova and how does it run and is it playable with the multitouch.

Is there a way to tell whether a Vega is of the old or the new batch with the nicer screen?
Asking because there is a used one that I am considering.
Thank you!
I bought Toshiba Thrive yesterday from Bestbuy (yes, they have it in store, but currently it's not on display). So far it's looks and feel good, well other than the thickness and 1.6lb, but it does have lots option not available in other tabs yet (full hdmi, USB, micro usb and replaceable battery).
Currently I don't see any dedicated thread for this tab. I hope Devs show some love for this awesome tab from Toshiba.
Congrats for your purchase. I am also the one who is longing for a dedicated Xda forum for the Thrive/AT100. We need a community! Could you tell us more about the tablet you got please?
How is the screen?
OY! I ordered mine on 6/13 (First day to order) and I don't expect it for another two weeks!?!?!?
I purchased mine at Fry's today...after checking availability on their website (which shows 32BG model available). My store has the 16GB and 32GB versions in stock. No Toshiba tablet on display, fyi.
Ive got one on order but may try Frys today. This tablet needs some XDA love for sure!!
I'm experiencing a problem with the tablet's sleep mode. Sometimes, after a sleep mode of 15 minutes or more, I am not able to wake up the screen with a power-button quick press. I literally have to depress the power button until the tablet completely powers/shuts off and then depress the power button again to start up the tablet.
Same thing here. I don't really care for the launcher either. I tried ADW and it looked good but just not right. Yep, this thing needs to be Dev'd.
I contacted Toshiba Support and was told that they would try to fix the "sleep mode" issue with a future firmware update. Also, I set the tablet's alarm clock (for the next morning), and it didn't go off due to the sleep mode problem.
I like the Toshiba Thrive tablet, but this particular flaw is prompting me to return it to the store.
How I fixed My Toshiba Thrive sleep Issue
I had the same issue when the tablet went into sleep mode it wouldn't wake up it would just blink. In order to turn it back on I had to hold down the power button until it went off then restart it. I fixed it by taking out the battery plugging in the tablet turning it on with no battery, then i put the battery back in and unplugged the device while it was still on it immediately noticed the battery and the sleep problem stopped happening hope this helps.
Edit: I got my thrive early at best at the time this worked for a couple days but then the issue returned again i thought the update would help but I still had the same issue, but now more often.
I just picked up a Thrive at a local Best Buy yesterday. It's very nice so far. I have no sleep issues yet. We need a forum here for this beast.
Mine is on order from Toshiba - have to wait until next week for delivery - the benefits of ordering early.
But I want to add my request to the others for a dedicated forum here for the Thrive. It looks like lots of interesting dev can be done with it.

Me too, I don 't live in the US so I know little about BBuy or Amazon. I thought buying from Toshiba is like buying iproducts from Apple, which guarantees stock supply...sigh thats the way they treat their supporters. Still got a week to go!

Quick question: Does the Thrive handle charging via USB or will it only chanrge through the poswer adaptor or docking station?
Thanks, ryanp0617, for the solution.
It can't be charged via USB.
Got my Thrive and it rocks! Just need to get it rooted! No problems with the sleep issue at all.
Please
I had originally sent an email requesting that a Thrive sub-forum be added. This was the reply I received.

Requesting the same thing. I've been drooling over this tablet since I got the Samsung 10.1. I loved the design of the original 10.1 but the new one annoyed me greatly. So now I am waiting for my Best Buy store to sell them to me. (I've asked, many times, they won't give it up before July 10) and Office Depot, while willing to sell to me, is locked out by their register system. So, I'm waiting. In the mean time, I would really really like a Sub-Forum for it as I have requested. And many others as well.
P.S. I see nothing about posting an email. This email was edited to redact any email address that showed. I saw no problem with it as it was a rather simple, and straight-forward email containing no other connotation. If I have violated a TOS please punish me and allow me to edit the post.
Battery life?
It might be to early to ask this, but what kind of battery life are you guys seeing?
I am getting 12+ hours with lots of usage or in sleep mode, never turning the tablet off.
But the ”sleep bug” got me last night, and now the back cover is not closing/sealing on the side with the power, volume, & WiFi buttons.

HOLY SHEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIII****!
I just found out that the HP Slatebook x2 comes with an Intel HD 4000, not the Tegra 4 GPU!
THIS MAKES THE SLATEBOOK THE MOST POWERFUL GAMING ANDROID TABLET EVER MADE!
http://anandtech.com/show/7190/nvidia-shield-review-tegra-4-crossroads-pc-mobile-gaming/5
The HD 4000 is roughly 1.5x faster than the Tegra 4 GPU. The HD 4000 is also roughly 3.0x faster than the Adreno 320 in the N7v2!
I'm returning my N7v2 and buying the Slatebook ASAP... will let anyone who's interested know more!
But its too expensive!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
It certainly seems like a nice device but its more than double the price...
the price is not for me even though i spent 300 on the nvidia shield and 270 on the n7 i think its ok...i would not get it though after seeing how bad hp were with there own product that they killed in less than 3 months now they move to android. simple fact is i dont trust them period no matter how good the device may look.
Psh! It's not too expensive! My 32 GB N10 was $30 more. So what if it's twice the price of the N7? It's also more than twice the value, so you're getting what you pay for.
If everybody used the argument "it's too expensive" then we'd all be buying $60 Chinese Android tablets off Amazon.
I'm sure the Slate is great, but main reason I bought the N7 was the price.
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
Double the price, and it is a 10 inch. They aren't even in the same catagory.
You guys are completely missing the point.

The main points out of the page... lists nothing Intel wise. My guess it was an oops on the main page.
And if it was in there... why would it run on a Nvidia chipset, it wouldn't it would be on an intel CPU.
I'm really confuse with the Intell Hd4000. No way HP was able to use an intel GPU chip with Nvidia's CPU/GPU combo, or did they? haha would be awesome though. I'm sure this is a type or error.
Hd 4000 confirmed

Not according to HP it won't.
In any case, I will be purchasing the Slatebook x2 and I will find out personally if it comes with the HD 4000.
Intel isn't the best at battery life. If it is a PC Slate.
Also, if it is an Intel chip, it EMULATES ARM code, so while it may be faster as a whole, emulating ARM might make it slower.
The whole Intel/Android marriage is too new to really know how it will work. Have fun!
I'd hold your excitement until it's actually official...chat reps are not always the most accurate sources of information.

the chat reps work through a 3rd party company. they are just reading off the spec lists. They are looking at the same typo.

It's not a PC Slate, it's an Android slate.
It's not an Intel CPU, it's an NVIDIA Tegra 4 CPU.
It also comes with TWO batteries - one in the tablet, and one in the keyboard dock. So battery life will not be an issue.
As I said originally, I will update and let you guys know once I get my hands on one personally!
HP employee?
don't get me wrong, but the OP is totally comparing apples to oranges. Sad that HP has resorted to this type of marketing, as clearly the OP is an employee of the company. Wonder if he has posted over on the Nexus 10 forum the same thing?

I thought HP dropped out of the tablet market? If it is a Tegra 4, I don't see it having an intel 4000 chipset. Isnt the Tegra4 CPU/GPU married together?
So it's basically a new Asus Transformer?
Dear ASUS TF300 users!
I and my forum friends managed to contact ASUS about quality of latest firmware (since update to 4.1.1). They told us to make an organised table of problems that users faced and to send them.
So we organised table here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkVUB_2axZUedGZLVFNYVXhuRVo2WWdpZTI3ZlowR0E&usp=sharing
And we ask everybody to leave here (in this thread) their feedbacks using this sample:
1. Forum nickname
2. Country
3. S/N (Settings - About tablet - Status)
4. Purchase date
5. Android OS (4.0/4.1/4.2)
6. Build number (Settings - About tablet)
7. Feedback (What you are dissatisfied)Then i will move them to table.
Thanks everybody in advance!

2. Tablet has of course, I/O read/write issues like most people, it slows down for no reason, I use Fast Reboot/Virtual Reboot to temp. solve this problem whenever I am using multiple apps.. this has to be fixed, its getting on my nerves (Slow write speed, slowdowns when using some stuff on random)

The Micro SD card slot isn't working properly; cards don't lock into place. Other forum members with the same issue got lucky with ASUS Support even after they unlocked the bootloader, but I didn't. I didn't know about my Micro SD slot being defective and because I did something with the software, ASUS refused to cover a hardware defect. So yeah, I'm pretty unhappy about that.

This "service courtesy" must have come from some Asus smart-ass with an MBA degree from the University of Phoenix. I don't mean to slight your effort Sad96, but did they promise you what they'd do with the data? I don't see that they will reach out and offer anybody a replacement or a fix (they're quite capable of but won't do for a hefty fee) where their own firmware OTA updates screwed up people's tabs (in my case), I've learned at a rather early age that the best way to appease the mass when you're not willing to accommodate is to tell it to voice its various complaints. You officially take them and then you unofficially shelve them, claiming it'd take time to "study" a solution.
That maneuver provides a safety valve by giving the semblance of an attentive ear when in fact nothing will go on. The proof is in the myriad of "petitions" and complaints sent in the past that never produced any positive result. Not a single one. it doesn't work but the mass is gullible enough to buy it every time. If you're in Lgrad and have lived long enough, you'd certainly remember this handy trick. The best approach is to tell them to take responsibility for their own boo-boos, or give us the tool to fix - NVFlash, or they won't ever see us again as customers. Heck, they don't have the monopoly of tabs. Far from it.
@graphdarnell I don't know what they will do, but we got more than 30 feedbacks, and everything was sent to technical support. They informed ASUS about all problems.
