Tilt 2 To HD2 Up Grade Questions. - HD2 General

A friend is selling an HD2 (t-Mobile) that I’m thinking on buying. A present I have an Tilt-2 (AT&T) running WM6.5. I would like to root the HD2 for AT&T and install WM6.5, and eventually Android. Below are my questions.
I have a back-up of WM6.5 OS from HTC's Tilt 2 support page. Can I load this on the HD2 after rooting?
One concerns I have is I was told the HD2 will never achieve 3g on AT&T. No mater what I do. Is this true?

Why would you want to have the Tilt's Winmo 6.5 on the HD2? The HD2 has it's own Winmo 6.5.
Better yet, install a custom HD2 rom with winmo 6.5.3 for an even better winmo experience.

What you are wanting to do is actually unlock the phone, not root(two different things). Unlocking will allow you to use a different provider's SIM card. If your friend is still with T-Mobile and his/her account is in good standing and has been for at least 90 days, he can contact T-Mobile and request the unlock code.
As far as WM6.5, as Cenobite said, it's already running WM6.5, unless your friend has flashed Android or WP7 to it. You can use the ROM that comes on it if it is running WM6.5, or you can browse the WM6.5 development section to find a custom ROM that you want to use.
Now as for what you have heard about it not being able to use AT&T's 3G, that is true. T-Mobile US' version of the HD2 does not have the frequency bands that AT&T uses for their 3G. There's no way around that as it is part of the hardware. You will only be able to get EDGE using it with AT&T.

Because I think he loaded Android. For now I need to keep 6.5 for the Garmin XT. If he did I cannot find HD2's 6.5 OS, but I do have a back-up T2 6.5. Didn’t know there was a difference.

If he did flash Android to it, and you need the 6.5 ROM for the HD2, you can find the stock T-Mobile US ROMs on this site, as well as custom 6.5 ROMs. Have a look in the "HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5" section.

Best WM 6.5 for wing?

Sorry maybe a dumb question, but has been a long time since I looked at one of these phones. What would you say currently is the best windows mobile 6.5 rom for a T-Mobile wing that runs the smothest? For right now I do not have a memory card but will get one later on. Don't know if that has any bearing or not. But just wondering on your opinion as to what is the best running rom 6.5 for the device.

[Q] Upgrading to mytouch from a WM 6.5 phone.

Can the HTC mytouch run WM 6.5? I don't like Google.
No. Get a new phone. Return the phone or sell it.

To my knowledge the Mytouch cannot run Windows Mobile 6.5 or any of the WM variants. If you do want a phone that runs any of those please, like the poster above said, buy a different phone that is capable with running that OS. I'm not sure why you would buy a Google phone if you don't like Google, however I believe you should give the phone a try. It's not a bad phone and I really like the OS. Plus Android is open-source so there are many variants of Android OS that exist out there if you root your phone. So like I said before you should give it a try if you don't like it just sell it and buy a phone with WM.

help needed to choose between HD2 and HD7

Hello guys,
I am going to University of Waterloo, Canada, to study software engineering this fall. I currently own a xperia x10i but i have found out that it wont be able to work in Canada due to network band compatibility issues.
Hence i am gonna switch over to WIND telecom and purchase the 29CAD/mo student plan.
I basically now want to use a windows phone. Would you recommend me to get the HD7 or the HD2?
if Windows 8 ever comes out, then will it run on the HD2 or HD7? I intend to keep this phone for a minimum 3 years.
One more thing that should be kept in mind is that the normal hd2 WONT work with WIND network bands. Only the T mobile version works on WIND.
The same case is valid for the T-mobile version of HD7.
I also like customizing and flashing different ROMs etc, HD2 is undoubtedly the best HACKER friendly phone in current times, since android, ubuntu, wm7,meegoo etc have been ported to it. Will the HD7 also be like HD2 in the near future?
To summarize my requirements, i would like to use Windows mobile, preferably windows 7 (fully functioning or important things working like marketplace, browser, wifi, xbox) for a span of 3 years.
Also the device should not lag much.
Please help me choose between the HD2 and HD7.
Cheers!
Vito
If you want windows phone take an hd7. But it won‘t get all the developement the hd2 has. You also have to remember that the hd2 is already 2 years old. Developement decreases and many devs already switched to a newer phone. But if you‘re into flashing the hd2 is king.
I would take the hd7 if you want to use wp and the hd2 if you want android or an outdated winmo.

It already does, we're just waiting for a cleaned-up working Mango build.
Well that's awesome! Is it true that the hd2 is faster than hd7?
Will the cleaned up hd2 perform better than hd7? Btw from your point of view by seeing the pros and cons if both phones which one do you recommend?

HD7 will perform WP7 better than the HD2 always.
HD2 has the "multi-touch bug" (where if you don't put both fingers at exactly the same time, multi-touch won't work).
HD7 also has better battery life.
If you really want perfect WP7, get an HD7. For me, I want Android too much to ever get a WP7-only device. I use and like Android more, but I do reboot into WP7 sometimes, and it's a good experience when I do.

You will never be able to run Windows 7 or 8 on any current phone.
If you want to use Windows Mobile, then you need to choose the HD2 or another Windows Mobile device.
If you want to use Windows Phone, then you should choose a native WP7 device to avoid the touchscreen bug and unlock lag.
android is also beeing portet for the hd7. there were vids around ages ago and now rspl for windows phones was released. so you will also get custom roms.
i think if you want to use wp7 as your main os you should take the hd7.

for LEO - yes. about WP7F, we have some experiments and runnning some MAGLDR version on Gold and Mozart, but not sure how deep it will go.
because this devices are not so lucky as LEO, some things make stuffs difficult, like external audio codec and other ril interface. Last thing can stop porting for a long time. time will show truth but I can't promise anything.

Dude you won't believe I'm going to Waterloo this year and I'm in the same dilemma as you!
Btw, I'm going in Computer Engineering, and I probably going for the HD2 cause it gives me more time to play around, reason it's so widely hacked..

Windows phone 7

can we upgrade this phone omnia 2 i8000 to windows phone 7.1 or 7.5 or any 7. version ?
Sorry, but there is no way to do that. WP7 is based a bit different than WM6.x. So, if you like WP7 then by a phone with that OS or you can get HD2 and have WM6.x, WP7 and Android on the same phone, like me

I love this. If I have understood correctly, you are saying that you can run WM6.x. WP7 and Android on the same phone? Which one? HD2?? or also QTEK 9100
SE Xperia X1
SE Xperia X2
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Touch Pro 2
HTC 7 Pro
HTC HD2
I have an Qtek 9100 and would love to play on it
tx foe letting us know!!
You can run several OSs on HD2, not the QTek.
HD2 is the best phone I ever had, so if you like to experiment with ROMs and OSs than buy HD2 and you will be pleased with it. Unless, you need keyboard....
What´s the difference bwn the omnia2 and the hd2 that enables the latter to run w7 but not the former?
And do you have a multiboot installed or you have to re-flash the mobile to run a different OS?
I´d like to buy the same phone as I´m used to the old winme and i´m not very happy with android either. Just to have more options.

[Q]HD2 or Trophy?

Hi guys,
I have a HTC Trophy which I am thinking of selling so I can buy a HD2 to install WP7 and/or Android, as a fun project kind of thing.
I already have a HD2 with WM 6.5.5 on it, but I'm REALLY reluctant to replace it because of Garmin and Tomtoms (The newer phones just don't have equivalent substitutes).
On the Trophy portion, I'm kinda thinking of putting custom ROM on it, but after reading that I need to use the goldcard method kinda makes me want to forget about the whole deal (I already have a full unlocked Focus 1.3)
So my question is, should I keep the Trophy or should I trade it with a HD2?

definately the hd2 !!
i would choose the hd2 over the trophy anytime ! !!!
you can use 1 hd2 with android ics and 1 with wp 7.5 !! !!
Hmm... That would mean I would lose the WM 6.5.5 and my nav apps.
