Hello everyone
This is my first post, i usually browse these forums to pick knowledge but im in an hour of need please
I have the orange M5000, (universal or xda exec)
Everything works as it rings when you dial its number, button presses are acknowledged, even screen taps give you beeps!
but neither the screen lights up andneither does it show anything.
is there something i can do please? i must be pressing a button wrong or something!
tried resets etc.
Please could someone help
many thanks
"G"
when you take the battery out and then put it back in and press the power button does the screen show anything?
If not back to the store me thinks.
Anyone else?
JAmes
Hello,
the connector between the screen and mainboard sounds like it is either loose or frayed ( it is a collection of wires and not a ribbon.)
I would contact www.htceurope.com and arrange a repair as the unit should still be under warranty unless it's been noticebly dropped.
Richard
james, i tried the resets also taking the battery out, sadly the problem persisted after this too
richard thanks so much for putting that website forward as i didnt even know it existed
the orange shop i got it from i would never ever visit again, terrible service and nil knowledge.
i have gone through the process on htc's website and will send it for repair tomorrow
thanks so much again!
has anyone else sent anything to htc for warranty work before?
many thanks
"G"
someone just also informed me that the screen is not designed to be turned 360 degrees but only 180 degrees, maybe this is what did it? whatif i turned it around to close it instead ofturning it back the way it came.
oh well, i have printed a tick sheet so willdispatch it tomorrow
thanks so much again for your help.#
G
I recon you wouldnt have noticed you were doing bad if you turned it through the not turnable part.
hope the repair gets it sorted for you
JAmes
thanks james!
me too! i could always walk into another orange shop but theyre only going to probably send it to htc for repair anyway so why not go straight!
thanks all

If you plug the unit in to power, is the screen still dark? Did you do a hard reset? If not, do so. You don't have much to lose. If one presses the backlight button and power buttons in a certain sequence, the backlight slider goes to '0' and the screen will appear to be black. If you look at it under strong light you will see that you can make out the icons etc. on the screen. If this is the case, go to settings and backlight and move the sliders up. If you have hard reset the device then this is all moot.

Surprisingly enough it is easily done...I have a jasjar that doesn't stop if you try to rotate it further than 180. They have re-designed the hinge / twist bracket with more pronounced ridges on the XDA exec I had in bits to stop this. If in doubt, deny all knowledge, if you've been able to do that without noticing, it's a design flaw IMO.
HTCEurope are actually very good for repairs, you can log in and see the progress of your repair on their site, and compared to some of the other official service agents ( SBE / imate ) they are also reasonably priced if your units is not covered byt warranty eg if you smashed the screen.
Don't ever bother sending a phone back via orange unless it's accidental damage and you have orangecare - they just send it on to HTC so you're only delaying it. The only downside is you have to pay for the postage to send it to them. An upside of using HTC directly though is you can pay for a cosmetic refurb if needed at the same time.
Richard
You are welcome, but sorry you were not able to find a solution. Can you actually turn your screen through 360 degrees? There are mechanical stops to prevent this, but they can of course be broken by force. One turn would probably not damage the wire inside, as I have seen it. More than once however, and you have no doubt broken the connection. Since the screen still beeps, it sounds like the main connection to the lcd is gone. Even with the backlight for the lcd screen completely disconnected the lcd will still show charaters under strong light. Have you actually done a 'hard' reset? This is the one where you hold the two soft keys (with the '-' on them) at the same time you press the reset button on the back of the unit. If you see nothing after this, you definitely need to send it in for repair.
richard thanks will remember to always use htc directly in future too. hopefully they wont charge me for the work, but if they do its probably my own fault, just wish i knew how i broke it lol
chetccox, i understand now how the cable mustve broken inside. this is because i can easily turn the screen through no problem, even in the manual there is no mention of this, there is even NO ADVICE ON HOW TO OPEN OR CLOSE THE SCREEN!
thanks for your input, i tried the hard rest too, nthing on the screen again! oh well, very unfortunate, was really looking forward to this!
i think ill sell this on and get something like the xda3 again. i had a mini s before i gave that to my cousin for his birthday. i never got on with it, too slow for me, im not educated enough to change roms etc etc etc
thanks all

Hi Guys
Have been checking the HTC wesbite frantically since last week to see how my pda is getting on with its warranty repair and this is the status it shows.
Timestamp Status
22/02/2006 08:59:36 RECEIVED
01/03/2006 09:00:27 ON-HOLD
what does it mean when it says on-hold?
this is the status of my Xda Exec (SPV M5000 actually) what does that mean please? can anyone help
Many thanks
G
Well, here is what ON-HOLD means!
Is it worth arguing or shall i just pay it and cut my losses? Not once does it say this in the manual anywhere!
Please let me know what you guys think.
Thanks again

Dear Mr Sood,
Thank you for returning your phone to us.
Unfortunately our technicians have found that the screen has been turned through more than 180 degrees damaging the co-axial cable. As accidental damage is not covered by the warranty this will be a chargeable repair at a cost of £77.40 inclusive of vat and delivery. This may be paid by credit/debit card at our website, www.htceurope.com, using your case number and password. Please let me know if you can’t find either of these.
Payment may also be made by cheque or postal order made payable to HTC Europe Co Ltd, and sent to:
Tim Morvan
HTC Europe
Capella House
Snowdon Drive
Milton Keynes
MK6 1AJ.
Thank you.

Theres a box online where i can choose to disagree. DO you think i stand anywhere? i dont mind paying it but when i bought the phone i cooldnt feel anything stopping the screen

i wouldnt pay the monies... i would argue its a design fault.. search the internet for othe rpeple with same problem.
also point out that nowhere in the documents does it warn you about 360 rotations.

While it's a shame they are not fixing it under warranty, the quote is reasonable IMO as you can't buy the cable for love nor money, and I've changed one, it's fiddly and took me at least an hour. £25 for the part and 1 hour's labour is fairy snuff, I'd pay it no question if it were me.

You could try - it's not like they'll put the price up for you querying it?
There *are* others who have had the same problem as well.

I dunno about your phone but my QTEK 9000 had a sticker on the screen when it was fresh out of the box. This sticker did state that you cannot turn it more than 180º. Maybe it's just QTEK that took the time to put this sticker.
I dropped my fone from the second floor to the first - but luckily the corner of the phone stopped it from hurting the floor any more. It hit the corder where the stylus is and now the screen looks a liitle raised from the keyboard. When I turn it on, it only shows me a white screen.
2 Questions:
1 - can I fix it
2 - can I get another one from Cingular (and how)
I know that I do not have protection on my phone since Cingular will not protect phones that cost more than $300 (when if you think about it, those are the phones you need to protect) Does anyone know how I can get another phone from Cingular without paying?
Thanks

getting one without paying isnt going to happen, especially since it shows obvious signs of user inlficted damage. you need to start saving up for your next phone purchase.
So Should I go ahead and try to open it up and see if I can fix anything in it?
In my opinion, I think the LCD is broken, or it could be just the connection loose where the LCD connects to the mainboard. Goodluck!

there is a place called www.safeware.com where you can insurace your PDA for about 60 bucks a year... check it out
you may get another from ebay for $400
if the screen and motherboard are not broken, try to get Dopod 838 housing assembly, and replace the housing
So I opened up the entire phone and only found that the InfraRed lens broken off. I don't see where else it is broken. I had everything apart except the screen from the face of the phone. I took off the back by taking the screen off of the guide rails.
I made sure the connections between the screen and the board where secure. With the phone completely open, I tried to turn it on and still got a white screen.
When I plug in the power, the orange light doesn't light up.
I think I'm up a certain creek without a paddle.
Here is an update:
I called Cingular and all they could offer me was the number to the manufacturer HTC (877-878-6944)
HTC sends me to their repair center (888-354-2375)
So I am sending my busted phone to them and here is how the process works:
They get your CCard # to have on file. You send the phone in your own package, your cost. They will get it, diagnose the problem and give you an estimate of cost. If you approve the cost, then they will charge your card for the repair plus $27.80 for return shipping. If you do not approve the cost then they will charge you $27.80 and return you your busted phone.
I'll keep you posted to the cost estimate.
10/26/06 - HTC calls me up and says that my unit will cost $169 to repair and I go ahead and authorize it.
10/30/06 - HTC Ships out my unit and I should get it 11/2
Jesus, 169!
wait wait..u mean to tell me there's no warranty on this device? not even a year?
I don't know how HTC works, but I used to own a couple of HP PDA and PDA phones...and if there's any kind of problem, hardware, software, or even if I dropped the device and broke it (which I did a couple of times), I call the warranty department (of course I had to lie and told them I never damanged it), but then they send me a new PDA on UPS Next day right away with no charge to me..and I send them back my old PDA postage paid....
I don't get it..why can't u do the same with HTC? Like I was wondering earlier...is there no warranty? Coz if there isn't, I'm returning my 8125.
And the Saga ends.
Yesterday got my phone and tested everything to make sure it works. Turns out that they actually do fix what you send them instead of just swapping it out. My case was cracked near the corner and you can see where they repaired the crack.
So there you have it.
- There is a warranty for factory defects, not dropping your phone

There is a 1 year warranty through Cingular but it does not cover lose or physical damage, only defects in the product.
My touchscreen developed some issues after about 3 months of use. It was replaced under warranty.
If you drop and break it your warranty is voided. This is pretty standard, insurance covers loss & accidental damage.
So I got my TyTN via import back in August and I am experiencing several problems a few months later: the keys on the front intermittently cease working, the handset speaker makes small buzzing sounds when connected to a GSM network, and sometimes the screen washes out white.
1) I'd like to contact HTC USA for support options, does anybody have the number?
2) Also, does anybody know if they have an advanced exchnage option where they send you a refurb (after you give them a credit card number) and don't charge the card as long as they receive the defective unit back in two weeks or so?
The US HTC can not help you, I've already contacted them. You have to send the device to Europe HTC and have the repair done there. They have 2 HTC offices here in Houston TX one is a repair shop and they said they do not have the knowledge or parts to repair the TyTN that I would have to send it to the country from which the phone was purchased. I think this is complete bull. They could get the parts easly and repair or replace my phone, they are just making it harder to get the TyTN fixed hoping you won't bother them. I am having the screen alignment issue and my phone locking ALL THE TIME!!!! but I have not sent it in becuase I can't handle not having my phone for 2 weeks. I sent an email to HTC Europe asking how long and if I could get a replacement since I have been having so many problems and they never responded.
As far as I know they have no lowner or replacemnet program. I suggest you buy a cheap GSM phone and keep it as your back up.
any luck getting your repairs? I am having soe problems and my imei is definitely from UK.
I bought mine from MadMonkeyBoys gadgets and he has been very responsive in providing support. Although I had to wait until I had a new unit to sustain me during tyTN's repair (now I have a Cheetah), David from MMB quickly got me a repair order and I shall send the unit out tomorrow
Hi guys,
I could not find any other "help" section, so I decided to write my problem here. My Diamond 2 has some sort of display problem, device works, same with touchscreen. I can blindly control the phone, but I can't see anything because LCD does not work. I attached a photo of how LCD looks like when it is not in standby (light on). LCD looks fine with light off (in standby/turned off).
Anyone knows what this might be? I don't know how it happened, but not by my direct action. I checked a clock many times that day, and later when I checked the phone I just could not get LCD to work anymore. Just this.
I already e-mailed HTC service for support. I bought the phone from Amazon UK like 3 months ago, so I think warranty is still valid. I just hope they will not cause any problems and repair the phone without any fees. I am just checking here for your expertise on the matter. Maybe there is someone else here with same problem.
Thanks!
* I tried hard reset button
Hi
By pressing the button at the top (to check the clock) so many times the button may have got loose or the the wires connecting the LCD to the motherboard may be loose, I had this problem with my Nokia N85.
Best thing to do is get it repaired under warranty. First, ring or email Amazon and see what they can do. If your unwilling to send it off Carphone Warehouse will do the repair it for you but you have to find the repair centres. They have quite a few so it should be too hard to find.
Also Carphone Warehouse will not charge you as long as you have proof of purchase.
Man.
Is sending the phone to the Carphone Warehouse a good idea? I was just browsing the net and found many complaints about their repair services.
I sent my Nokia N85 for repair and it was ok. But I can see why your asking because I read the same reviews.
You should definiately try Amazon first.
Man.
Hi there,
A couple of weeks ago, my Note 4 began to act up. Every so often the right hand side of the screen would freeze up and eventually show static.
These pictures aren't mine, but they show the exact issue: http://imgur.com/a/LqoeA
Anyway, I decided to go to my phone carrier (EE) to get it repaired as it was still in warranty. They agreed that this would be covered and sent it to their repair center. The repair center then contacted me and told me that the fault was due to water damage (which is impossible as my Note has never touched water) and sent it back, refusing to fix it. When I got it back, it was in a complete state. They had broken the LCD and Digitizer to the point where the screen wouldn't even turn on anymore, and it was hanging out by the ribbon cables (The home button and flex cables for the soft keys were also extremely loose).
Because of this, I decided that I'd have a go at fixing it myself. I went online and bought a new LCD + Digitizer. I've just fit it and now whilst the screen powers on again, I've come full circle as the static issue still is present.
Is there any more I can do or is there no way of getting this fixed without professional aid? I'm unable to send it in for repairs because the repair center obviously are unwilling to work on it, and even if they were now, I wouldn't trust them as they inflicted even more damage to the phone and sent it back to me in a worse state. I've already sank £100 on a replacement part, so I'm not to keen on paying for repairs either (I could put the money towards a new phone instead).
The help is much appreciated! Thanks!
