video chat - Acer Iconia A500

I need a working video chat option from my Iconia tab to my wife's windows laptop. Skype doesn't work and I read Google Talk is supposd to work, but I downloaded it onto the laptop and installed the plugins, but I do not see any options to start a video call.
What do I need to do?

gTalk works fine for video and voice - you just have to make sure both accounts are setup to make/receive video/voice requests. Recheck your settings.

I got it to work, but the laptop has the initiate the video call because I do not have that option on the tablet's GTalk app. And the laptop has to initiate the video call via Gmail, not the Gtalk app that was downloaded and installed. Does that seem right?

As mentioned, once you have video options for the computer's gtalk, you then have to do something like "enabling" video chat for all the contacts. On my tablet, when in GTalk, when I tap a contacts name and a chat window opens, if the contact supports video, I will have a little video camera icon on the right-hand side of the chat window. So I would suggest logging onto GTalk on the laptop, have her click the contact entry for your username, and in the "More" button, I think that is where the option is to enable the video caht with you. This may have been something I saw when logged into GMail via the browser on my computer.

Facebook update causes TouchFlo Restarts

Every time I update Facebook in Updates and Events it restarts TouchFlo. I've run into this problem before... After a hardware restart it fixed it but i'm sure there has to be a way to fix this. I have tried undoing anything I've done before this problem occured... But I've changed nor done anything... It just happen, any help will appreciated.

WE could really use some more info. Rom, OS version, Things of this type will most likely get you some answers
ROM version: 1.19.661.3 "Stock ROM"
Windows Mobile 6.1
Carrier: Telus "CDMA"
It seems i've fixed the problem, well more like it fixed it self, I took one of my contacts off the facebook link and it seems the crashing has stoped. It just seems weird to me that it would do that, would like to know the real reason behind this. Maybe there's a limit of contacts you can have linked to Facebook
Now that we're speaking of facebook on the TP2, does anyone know how to chat on facebook similar to the iphone app?
Ok, my reply is two fold....
@TeamSir
I ran into the same problem. I took a bit of a different route, though... It only seemed to crash on me when I updated from within the address book editing screen (not always, but often). On the Status Tab (Third or forth tab when in Address book, or viewing a contact), when I've updated from there, I haven't had any problems. Weird, but who knows.... Also noticed that if they Contact in the address book is exactly like it is on facebook, it automatically (after confirmation) sets everything up for you.
@Cacaman123 There isn't a way to "chat" through this integrated facebook feature. There are, however two options for you to look into.
Option #1
There is a Facebook App on the Microsoft website. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile. If you haven't already, sign up for an account (it's worth it, trust me... free apps and games, some of them pretty good too, some are demos, too). Once in there, arrow over "Free Extras" then click on "Games, Software, and More." From there, under the "Software and Services" side of the list, click "See all >" and on the next page there should be a facebook app. This app allows you to check friends status', update your own, check your messages, reply, and, as an added bonus, if any of your friends have their Phone number on FB, you can access it through the tab and call them directly from the app, through your phone.
Downfall: No Chat app. You are not allowed to do direct Facebook Chatting, you can send and receive messages, but no chatting.
Option #2
Palringo - Here is an app that I've been using for a long time. Bottom line, it's a multi service chatting program. You do have to sign up for an account (completely free), but after that, you can access any account of yours on the following networks:
* Windows Live Messenger ® (MSN)
* AOL ® Instant Messenger (AIM)
* Yahoo! ® Messenger
* Google Talk ™
* ICQ ®
* Jabber ®
* iChat® / MobileMe ®
* Gadu-Gadu ®
* Facebook Chat (Alpha)
With this program, you can chat directly with your friends on facebook.
Downfall: Chatting is the only thing you can do with facebook and this app.
I do hope this helps...
J.
My problem was the same, I was using the intergraded Facebook, crashed everytime I update in the address book editing screen. As soon as I took one of my contacts off of the link with facebook it started to work... But then everytime I open up File Explorer it would hang on loading "The last folder I tried to view was My Device\Windows". Couldn't even change which folder I was viewing, so with much frustration I turned to Hardware reset.
I deleted the "FacebookInfo" file in My Device folder, and it started working again.

HTC Sense Facebook/Youtube integration

Hi all,
I cannot activate Facebook or Youtube integration with HTC Sense (I'm not using Twitter so i don't know about this one).
I always receive the error: an error occured while attempting to login.
I have to mentioned that I can actually use the Facebook app and the Youtube app. But when I try to use the same users/passwords for Data Services (Facebook account linking, etc.) , it fails
What's wrong? I'm trying with wifi connection (no data subscription at the moment). Is the HTC Sense integration with Facebook/Twitter/Youtube works only with a data connection?
Someone has tried with a data connection?
Thx in advance
Have you tried with wireless? Obviously it required connection with server.
But - there is one problem, WM Facebook client just SUCKS!!!!
I prefer to use Opera and normal web page - on this screen it's a pleasure.
I have no problems via wifi, 3G..

Yes, and checked registry key after soft reset to be sure.

Of course, works... Im using 3G outside my home, mail push and sync with my Exchange 2007, Twitter etc, on home im using this via WIFI. I disconnect data connection, mail push disables too, enable WIFI and mail push... All works good, youtube, twitter and facebook too... Maybe is something wrong on your wifi access point? Some firewall settings?
I don't think it's firewall because I have the same behavior on a wifi at work and wifi at home:
- sense integration doesn t work
- MS Facebook app works
bump
Anyone experiencing the same issues? Some ideas of what it could be?
I've cheched in the registry keys mentioned earlier in the post and I had a value "new-inet:1159" for the Proxy value. I've removed it, soft reset, still does'nt work.
My facebook integration only works 50% or so.
Half of the contacts I have associated with my facebook friends dosnt show the pic, but they are associated. There should be a force download of facebook pictures to contacts button =)

Is your password composed only by letters and numbers or also by symbols? I can't connect using HTC Sense, too, and I suspect that the problem can be similar to the one reported on the FIM thread, where the client can't successfully connect with Facebook if the password has some symbols or special characthers in it...
Yes I have one special char in the password.
So if I understand correctly, it could be a bad implementation in HTC sense that is not handling correctly special chars when sending them?
It could explain why it's also not working for me with YouTube sense integration, because it's the same password.
I'll try to change my password and see if it do the trick
Yeah man you are the king! I've removed the special char in my password and it works!.
By the way it was a '&' char so it could be misunderstood by the facebook site if not correctly UrlEncoded by HTC before sending.
Thanks mate!
My fb contacts sync fine but my events don't. I used to get all events of my friends synced but now i only have literally 2 events showing and they are birthdays.
Anyonw else?

Anytime, I'm glad to help
Yes, it's a bug in HTC Sense login implementation; I had this suspect because my youtube account was working fine and it had a different password without any special char

the hd2 user manual (ch: 4 pg: 107) states:
"Your phone will use the contact's Facebook photo when you have linked to the contact's Facebook profile. If there is a contact photo already stored on your phone, the Facebook photo will *not* show in your contact even if you have linked to the contact's Facebook profile."
This -might- be the reason...
On the other hand, even that statement does not appear to be entirely true: Some of my contacts who had photos before "linking", had theirs changed to their facebook photos when linked. (When I removed the links, the "previous" photos came back.)
Might there be a pattern or something else we're missing?
/* edit: just found out: it is possible to specify which photo to use (outlook/facebook) by editing the contact and clicking the photo. */

HD2 problem when syncing contacts with Facebook profiles

Hi guys, first post here but been around a bit on the forum
Basically whenever i connect my contacts to their facebook profile everything syncs up fine EXCEPT their profile pictures, i'm not sure what caused it but if the contact was added recently on facebook it just cant seem to load the picture for it .
Anyway I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on my problem or had suffered something similar.
Thanks in advance!
Make sure you are on a wi-fi network and allow time for the picture to be downloaded..If it doesn't appear, edit the contact and select the facebook picture..
Nevermind i solved the problem now it was to do with how i was connecting, i had to connect via 3G to access facebook and wifi to access twitter.
Hey but it works pretty well for me with Wi-Fi too....jus needs time to download the picture.....all you have to do as the prev post said.....iv personally tried and tested it
does not work for me...
Hello,
this has always worked for me but now all of a sudden the pictures are not loading. When I synch with facebook I see the pictures on everybody when I can select what contacts to synch. (I have all boxes checked) but after accepting no pictures are synched. Everything else is synched...
Hi guys, sorry to bring up an old post but I think it's the same issue I'm now having.
I was able to view all the FB profile pictures until recently. They're all set to FB profile picture but I get the person outline instead of their picture.
Even my own "Me" contact card won't show my profile picture, it's annoying that it did work but now it doesn't!
Any ideas? Status' are updating. I signed out then back into FB. I didn't have to connect via wifi before when it worked. When I go to Settings>Data services>Facebook, I'm logged in but the icon is grey, maybe it always but thought it used to be blue.
Um, not sure what else to mention. Thanks in advance!
Totally was having the same issue up until about 5 minutes ago, found the way to fix it! It has to do with your actual Facebook account and not the phone. You have to change your Facebook account to DISABLE the secure browsing (https). once you do that, relog into Facebook on your HTC Sense and reload the profile pictures!!
You my friend are a hero, that fixed it for me too! So now I have a bright colourful address book again, yay!
Aw thanks! I'm super happy to have all my pictures back! It was driving me crazy!

After enabling secure browsing on FB, my phone didnt sync aswell. Took me ages to find out.
So, I'm still having the same problem. How exactly do I turn off the secure browsing on my browser?
I had the picture sync problem on ICS. I use HaxSync now. Works very well!

You do not need turn off the secure browsing on your browser, you need open your FB account with your browser ( IE, Chrome, Mozila), then select the arrow at the top right (next HOME button), and choose from there Account settings. In newly opened window of FB choose Security. Now you can see on the first row your
secure browsing - edit it!
Pay attention: You need DISABLE it (uncheck) !!!!!!!!!!....if you want syncing FB contacts with HTC contacts

[devs needed] FREE phone calls from Google

As some of you know, you can now place FREE calls to anywhere in the US or Canada using GMail and the "voice and video chat plugin". You can also receive calls from within GMail if you have a GoogleVoice account and you set it up to forward GoogleVoice calls to "Google Chat" as well as your phone(s).
This is awesome! I can now answer calls from GMail instead of my phone. I wish the desktop GoogleTalk app did that so I wouldn't have to always keep a webbrowser page open to GMail, but that is not what this post is about...
I got to thinking: if GMail can place and receive free phone calls, why can't I do that on my phone (or any device with internet)? I downloaded every available webbrowser for Android and tried to surf to GMail, but none of them even loaded the page (???), much less the plugin.
While searching for any possible solution, I learned that the required "voice and video chat plugin" is available for Linux. This fact makes me almost positive that it is somehow possible for someone to develop an Android app that loads that plugin, logs in to GMail (spoofing a desktop browser), and displays the Pop-out dial pad capable of placing and receiving free calls!
Is anyone up to the challenge? This is huge people! FREE phone where ever there is internet. I hope someone can make this happen on Android devices, since it already works perfect on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
EDIT: Lots of info in the SIPdroid thread I found after posting this, but it still would be nice to just make an XMPPdroid app and not have to deal with connecting Jabber to SIP. If my linux PC can make free Google VOIP calls without setting up additional SIP and PBXes accounts, then my Android phone should be able to too.
Great idea! Im sure others are working on it. Im all for free calling wherever there is internet. Not sure if the cell phone carriers ate gonna like it.

I've thought the same, currently I'm using SipDroid>pbxes>sipsorcery>sipgate>GV. Anything a bit simpler would be great. Plus when i try to hook up a friend, at least one of those sites aren't open to the public;gizmo is a simpler setup, hasnt been open since google bought it and has been sitting on it ever since. If I find anything I'll post here
this would be really nice. cell carriers are already ripping us off unnecessarily. this would give us some ways out
PBXes added support for the gtalk trunk recently and their latest sipdroid application can even set that all up for you today. In the end you'll have sipdroid->pbxes->gtalk with direct dialing.
I've been using it for a week or so now and it works better than any other solution I've tried, except for a sipdroid/android bug where a bluetooth disconnect causes the phone to reboot.

Facebook app

well i grabbed my sister ipad today and saw that in landscape mode there is also chat
will this available for transformer sometime?
The Facebook app includes chat and if I remember correctly Facebook also made a separate app to chat that is also on the market.
This:

Facebook text chat is still available in the Android app; left corner- 3 lines tap those and a full page menu opens.
I personally just use imo.im and put all of my chat protocols in there. GTalk, Skype, Yahoo, MSN, Facebook, and many more.
It does not do video chat with anyone via GTalk or Skype, but if someone wants to do that I just launch the native app. Then I do not have to worry about doing facebook chat from within the FB app.

Thanks! I never thought to scroll down in that menu. I usually just use that menu to search for a friend and since I'm in a few groups I never saw the chat option below.

I believe facebook has a separate app for ipad, while we have to use the ugly phone version on our tablet
anyone knows about a solution for the chat that scrolls up on the browser on ics?
worked fine on HC
