HELP: Cannot get back into Download Mode...Truly Bricked?? - Fascinate General

I'm pretty sure I just bricked my **@#*& phone trying to Flash the Semaphore 1.6.0Bm kernel
It failed the first time around when I tried to flash it via Odin.
So I took the battery out like I usually do then went to put it back into download mode... To my surprise I cannot get into download or recovery mode anymore.
I've tried all button methods and none worked. I can't get past the screen that has the cell --- computer screen.. Looks like I may need a jig now...?
Any other ideas that I might be able to try?
Thanks.

What happens when you three finger boot and just keep holding it? Same screen you have now?

You mean holding the Vol up & down, Home and power button?
Same thing.
I've left the battery out for over 20 minutes, tried it while plugged into the computer, the adapter and not plugged in at all.. Still nothing.
This sucks..

if the phone doesn't do anything at all you can probably take it in to your service center and tell them it wont turn on but it didn't get wet or anything... ubless they have some magical way to get it into download then they'll replace it if you're under warranty.

Load up Ubuntu or something and load up heimdall command line. There should be an option to kick it out of the connect to PC screen.

Thanks for your responses.
I tried the OneClick.jar heimdall method but it seems to not recognize that the phone is even plugged in.
I did just purchase a USB jig off ebay, I'm guessing that this is my last option before having to bring it back to Telus for a replacement

have you heard of One-Click UnBrick?
I have seen that screen a few times. This worked for me every time to get it back into recovery...

I got this same problem when I installed CM7 on my T959d for the first time and Odin hung after clicking [Start]. Rebooted my phone and was greeted with a nice soft-brick screen. What a scare that was.
Here's what I did:
1. Take out the battery from the phone.
2. Plug the phone via USB to the PC (odin was open)
3. Hold down [VOL -] key
4. Hold down [POWER] key
I don't remember if the SGH-GTI9000 screen popped up, but if it does, wait for it to switch back to a black screen and then release just the [POWER] key, keeping [VOL -] pressed.
That put me back in Download Mode. Fired up ODIN again and the flash was successful this time around.
edit: Also, the Semaphore kernel i see in i9000 is for JVS roms. I'm not sure how that would affect darkys, since it's a JVR rom.

there was a thread about that issue, turn off your phone, unplug the usb cord, plug the usb cord. hold vol up and vol down and the power button. it will come on but when it goes off release the power button and keep holding down the vol up and vol down. should go into auto download mode. then u can reload it via odin.

you can save your device through odin, plug your phone in to your computer and try to go into download mode may take a couple tries, and flash the stock ROM you can find on these forums
i have already tried the sequence to get it into download mode... it doesnt work... tried adb and nothing registers....
anymore ideas? looks like im going to have to do a warranty exchange.
The only way I can reliably get to download mode is: power off, remove battery, replace battery, hold both vol buttons, plug in usb. works every time though.

are you using a .pit file? and if so is it the right 512 .pit file?
if both those are yes, delete the one on your system and re-download it.
I had this same exact problem a few weeks back Odin would hang on the pit file, just redownloaded and it worked like a charm.
and just a quick reminder of everything out for the Vibrant right now
Only stock firmware use the 'PDA' option a pit file, and re-partition
froyo firmware use the 'PDA' option and a pit file, no re-partition
JACs kernels use the 'CSC' option and no pit file, no-repartition
i have a Bell Vibrant and all the methods don't work. i tried the 3 button (remove batt, place in batt, plug USB, wait for the the ''star" to appear, hold VOL+/- and POWER and wait for the screen to turn off, release POWER, but it just goes back to recharging screen. tried it 40 times
tried the power off, remove battery, replace battery, hold both vol buttons, plug in usb. no go as well.
ANything else? I'm stuck at the boot screen (the 'S' glowing part).
This is what always works for me.
Unplug your USB from your phone
Makes sure ODIN is ready to go on your PC
Hold down the Down Volume and Power until the download screen comes on
Then plug your USB back into the phone
fire up odin
pull your battery
connect phone to pc WITH THE BATTERY OUT
hold volume up+down and power
put battery in while still holding those buttons
the screen will light up with....something. Wait for the screen to blink and then release the buttons.
You are now in download mode!
i will try those methods. Thanks.
crap, still no. just keeps showing the battery charging. i remember rescuing my htc magic so many times, but no go on this guy.....
Odin all fired up when doing this......

Did you make sure that the USB was unplugged when you used my method of holding down the volume down button and power button together until the download screen came up?
If you are familiar with ADB. You can also power your phone on and then plug in the USB and then type in the command line:
adb reboot download
to get it to reboot into download mode.
You can also use this command from the recovery console if you are able to get to it.

Dude, the Vibrant is new to us all. None like it. So dev wise its harder to explain and understand when we are used to coming from a one press method, now were using Odin, and Thor's hammer to flash our phones, which is god awful, no pun intended.
Dont flame your fellow Vibrant user cause he doesent understand the 613 steps it involves, and every other way to do so. Help the kid.
I am also in this position, just using a finger in the socket method, if its on it'l shock me, know what i mean. Just try it all. I have a feeling its getting harder and harder to brick phones because the manufacture is not retarded, they fix them right back, and ship them back out to customers who need replacements. I know this as a friend works at an AT&T shipping warehouse.
So cant we all just hit a bong, or get a long? And help?
If someone could explain all this 512PIT, PDA, and CSC, and Phone. It would help so much, sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. Just sayin.
"Oh man, I am so high right now, i have no idea whats going on."

Yeah man, i'll try it again!! And when do I start typing (sending out the adb command) when the power turns on? Thanks.
Question is: when i press power+vol Down, the boot splashscreen comes on (Galaxy S etc etc).....
I am sorry you have a Bell Vibrant, it is a little different than my phone. I found this hope this helps
HOWTO GET INTO DOWNLOAD-MODE:
- Turn off your Phone
- Hold VOLUME DOWN + HOME Buttons
- While holding VOLUME DOWN + HOME Buttons press POWER Button until you reach Download-Mode
- Release all Buttons
I also read that some of the Bell Vibrants had their Download/Recovery mode disabled.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754673&highlight=bell
As far as the adb command I would start as soon as it powers on. It will say "error:device not found" at first, but just keep on hitting arrow up and hitting the enter in the command window until it accepts the command.
Good Luck

Did I Brick It? $20 Reward

Moving up from an Eris to the Fascinate. Rooted the phone successfully via reboot, SuperUser Icon.
Went to install Clockworkmod, put phone in Download mode, ran Odin said failed first try so I tried it again, didn't attempt to install clockwork phone rebooted and immediately went to the phone, triangle pc icon (bad right).
So I can't get the phone back into download mode. I can only get recover via battery pull, plug in usb cable, power on phone and then hold up volume and power button and I'll get to recovery. Reboot in recovery does nothing, update.zip comes up with an error and factory reset and clear cache do nothing. PC will not recognize phone via USB so I don't know what to do...
$20 Paypal to the first poster that can get me back on track. Detailed instructions/ideas please.
TIA
Have you tried the same steps that you use to get into recovery, but with the down volume button instead?
Sent from my SCH-I500 with Dirrk's LV 1250 voodoo lagfix installed.
Yes, it goes from the battery charging Icon (once I first plug it into the usb and power on).
If I hold up volume and power it goes to recovery.
If i hold down volume and power it goes to phone, triangle, pc icons.
Hokay.
Pull your battery and usb cable.
Leave your battery out.
Hold DOWN VOLUME and plug in usb cable, while odin is running in background.
Welcome to download mode.
Insert battery.
Continue with Odin madness.
OK, that worked, now my PC is recognizing the device a serial item and it's not coming up in Odin?
re-open odin.

Victory!!!!
I had this problem before. Odin didnt want to do its job if I put the phone in download mode with the data cable plugged in.
You could try unplugging the data cable.
Pull the battery.
Put the battery back in.
Hold volume down and do a short press of power maybe like 1 second long.
wait till it goes into download mode.
Open Odin.
Plug in phone.
That should work. It would fail every time for me if I didnt do those steps.
Hope it helps!

Brick my phone applying 3 button fix

I tried applying [110% SAFE] 3-Button Combo FiX for Selected/ALL Firmwares
It failed and now I had a Phone ! PC logo. I can get a USB JIG but will it still boot to download mode? If it does, what should I flash it with? stock 2.1? stock 2.2? Please help!! Am I still able to get into DOWNLOAD mode with JIG?? THANKS!!!
P/S Flash this fix on my friend's i9000 and it worked. No Idea why didnt worked on mine =(
Any help please????
Your bootloader is fine if you get the PC-phone blinking icon. Best bet is to send your phone for warranty.
What was your original OS before flashing, 2.1 or 2.2?
You should flash the full package of whatever OS you were on by using the jig to get to the donwnload mode then flashing with Odin.
I will try to make a USB JIG and get in to download mode. Will flash stock firmware and see. Thanks! So if there's still Phone ! PC icon, bootloader still intact?
I'd you still have download mode, I have found that holding all three buttons and when galaxy logo comes up releasing all it works?
Open Odin. In PDA add a new kernel ie voodoo. Put phone in download and connect to Odin. Press start and in 20 seconds all should be good. Always works for me. Just a kernel file though. No repartition. auto reboot checked. Good luck

The phone has no 3 button combo, that's why I tried applying the 3 button fix but it brick. So I hope as long as it still shows Phone ! PC logo, it's still able to get into download mode using usb JIG.
Yes, the JIG should put the phone in download mode... its a very useful tool so look after it.
then when your in download mode, i personally would flash 2.1 with all 3 files and PIT. also check the re-partition box in odin. and start again good luck.

Bricked Screen
(A.K.A. phone-!-pc or Black Screen of Death)
For reference, this is what a bricked Samsung Galaxy S looks like. To recover from this problem, you'll need to get into the Download Mode.
Black Screen of Death
A fully bricked phone (as shown on the screenshot) will not boot, or display the charging logo when connected to a USB charger. This presently cannot be recovered from any recovery attempt, it will require the phone to be sent back to Samsung and be serviced.
This screen does not always mean your phone is bricked. If you have a hardware locked vibrant, maybe, however, if your phone is not hardware locked, unplug the USB cable from the phone, Hold down Vol UP+Vol Down+Power, the screen will flash black, continue holding down all 3 buttons, you will see the "phone--!--PC" screen again, continue holding all 3 buttons, the screen will flash black again, release the power button only. This will put you into Download Mode.

making (or maybe buy) a JIG is the way to get back to live the phone, even the screen shows nothing.
i had the same problem , while trying to "unlock " the 3 button combo my galaxy s managed to become a brick , so i made the jig and flashed it again with 2.2
i still lack the 3 button combination but whenever i need to get to donwload/recovery mode i use ADB
easier and safer
good luck mate
@danc00: no phone is dead. i know people with a riff box who give this phone life for only 30€.
you only need a jtag / riff box
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7edUXE7jLg
if you want to send it to germany to give it life again give me a message.
first you should search smbdy who has this box in your country
@kako: if the first and the second bootloaders are damaged only a jtag/riff box can help your phone ah or samsung itself i dunno what they use for it

Basically, thats whats going on. I've followed instructions on various threads, tried everything. The phone simply will not boot into recovery no matter what I try. Is there anything left I can do?

try to odin back to stock
1. Start Odin
2. Plug USB cable into pc
3. Power off the Phone.
3. Pull the Battery.
5. Plug USB cable into Phone.
6. Press and Hold: Volume UP + Volume DOWN + Power, all at the same time.
7. Re-insert the battery.
8. The phone will power now, when the screen starts a cycle of going to a BLACK screen, release ONLY the POWER button.
9. When you see the download icon release the volume buttons,
10. Odin back to stock by putting the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
Or try that same method without holding the power button, just the volume rocker (up and down) when plugging into usb that works for some ppl
The vibrant is tough to hard brick so keep trying
