[Q] How can I verify the CWM partition size? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi,
First of all I am sorry for the noob question, but how can I verify what is the partition size of Clockworkmod Recovery is creating in my cell phone?
I have a T-Mobile HD2 with MAGL 1.3, Clockworkmod Recovery 3.0.0.1 and Hyperdroid CM7 installed. Under Settings/About Phone/ Mem Info I see 134MB/411MB. Is the CWM partition related with this?
In the past I used the HD Core Droid version 1.5 witch was a very big Android ROM (270Mbytes), now a installed the Hyperdroid witch is very light (67Mbytes). But I just installed the ROM without changes in the CWM layout. Any suggestions about?
Thanks
Eduardo

looks like your partition is set for around 400mb
you can modify the flash.cfg file in cwm by opening it with notepad.
and change the numbers to those recomended by the Rom dev
misc ya 1M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize MAGLDR_recovery_3.0.2.4-seadersn.img
boot yboot|ro 8M
system ya 400M
cache ya 8M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize

Thanks for your help. Just a few question.
Where is located the flash.cfg file? So, just changing the parameter system ya from 400M to 150M is enought to release space to install more apllications?
Thanks

u will need to instal everything again and use the toolkit to install the 150 mb partition ... witch will leave about 200mb free ...if u install 120 mb that will leace about 300 mb free ... if u go lower mayve the rom wont boot.
for hyperdroid i used ti flash 100 mb but with 90mb the rom dont boot ...it's advisable to flash the partition set by the dev of any rom...

no, it isnt related at all, thats the memory, the RAM, not the partition size.
there is nowhere as standard that shows you teh size of the system partition (which is what you mean by CWM partition).
You can see the size of the data partition by going setings - storage - internal storage.
to see teh others, get 'super manager' from teh market, open it, and choose file explorer.
now, at teh top of the foldes list, in small writing under where it says 'back up level folder' it gives you details of teh folder you are currently in, ,
so use it to browse into your system folder, and look at the info.
EG mine says 'total 150M used 137.4M, bla blah' because I have a 150Meg system partition, and teh typhoon rom comes to about 137 meg when unzipped.
If i now browse into the cache folder, that info shows 'tot 40M, used 1.1M.....' because i chose a 40meg cache partition.
you can do the same with the sd-ext folder to see how big and how full your EXT partition on the sd card is.

Thanks a lot for all the answers. Now the this thing is getting clear for me.
Thanks guys.

[Q] How to partition Nand For HD2

hey can anybody guide me to the right way of partitioning my hd2 nand(tmobile) so i can install dl desire z from dandiest and get faster smoother working rom....plus 2 see 3000 on my quadrant scores.......i already have desire z 4.1 but its not as smooth as i thought it would be....i heard running the rom from a partition would increase read and write speeds...so before i install 4.2 i would like to know how to partition my nand to run the rom off of it....thank u.
Have you tried the video guide posted by locn?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11656790&postcount=3943
there's also a lot of partition tutorials all over that thread, xda & the web, I could link them for you, but that would deprive you of all the joy you will get when you actually find such info for yourself.
Good luck

Yeah I found partition videos and tutorials...a lot ...but they were all for partitioning memory cards not nand memory ..

Exactly. I'm running HyperDroidGBX and it says my internal storage is only 729MB, out of 1024MB. So just roughly 256MB Of the nand is being used for the system/data/cache partitions. What I want to do is resize all my nand partitions to allow for a data partition of atleast 900MB of internal storage and still have sufficiently sized system/cache partitions as necessary. What are the sizes of the partitions by standard? How do we use Android SDK and AVD "Andriod Virtural Device" on a Windows desktop to adjust the partition sizes?
THANKS!
BTW - It's called the mtd partitions. So look up how to resize mtd partitions android sdk avd.
Look in the folder where your cwm instal files are.one is called flash.cfg. open that in notepad, each line is one of the partitions. Adjust size and flash.
(Allsize means all the leftover space)
If you aren't using a clockwork rom, then the same applies.... in the daf rom folder is flash.cfg
If it is a daf rom, if you merge the partition info from your flash.cfg with the info in a cwm flash.cfg, and copy in the recovery.img you can flash your daf rom with your partition layout and apply cwm recovery at the same time.

Wow! Your great man! Ok I'm using HyperdroidGBX v11 and CWM 1.13. Do i need to edit the hyperdroidgbx flash.cfg and the CWM flash.cfg? What do you mean by copy in the recovery.img. So what should I do? Should i just adjust partition sizes in the cwm flash.cfg and then just flash hyperdroid or even better i could perform a nandroid backup and just restore right?
Ok so its a cwm rom so only the cwm flash.cfg exists.
However you should find the data part is already set to allsize meaning it takes up all the space after the small fixed size parts are done.
Do you have an ext partition on your SD card? If so, the rom is automatically putting apps there instead of on the phone.
(At least that's my understanding of app2sd+ enabled roms, certainly I never manually move apps to the SD card, yet there they are on my SD in the ext part. If you manually choose to move apps to SD in app manager, it takes them from the ext part and puts them on the fat32 partition.)
Get rid of your ext part and re try before you bother editing flash.cfg
If someone who knows yes or no could confirm my understanding of apps2sd+, that would be great.
Ok so i downloaded the recovery_150M is what i had on it. Edited the partition sizes. Now after flashing MAGLDR 1.13 edited flash.cfg, I'm stuck at the boot screen where the android is and it doesn't do anything. Do i need to edit a flash.cfg within a CWM folder? I tried several different sizes. IDK why it won't boot.... No ext3 and no i don't want apps installed to sd automatically, i have 1 fat32 partition on class 10 32gb stick. I want all apps to be installed to nand and i don't want my sd to be used at all unless i specify to move the data to sd card. Do i need to flash in HARDSPL? or on FLASHER in MAGLDR?
There was no need to do magldr again, only cwm, having looked in flash.cfg in the cwm folder.
Going back to your post 1 "how do I partition",,, that's what cwm is doing, creating partitions as per instructions in flash.cfg. you can't run nand android without partitioning first, therefore the answer to your original question is "it already is partitioned"

What version of Magldr do you have?
Are you trying to install a Magldr (*.exe) or ClockworkMod (*.zip) Rom?
Please list EXACTLY what you did and what happened as the information you gave doesnt tell us anything.

As I was answering you question I realised that i have used the wrong android file, so Now its working... hehe..
The only problem is now the storage on the phone, ther is almost no space on the phone... When I set up active sync on my phon, will the emails take place in the phone or the SD card?

I think the low storage issue is most probably coz of your /system partiton (400mb cfg file?). Now I don't know what size your roms /system cfg file should be (next time link to your rom, makes it easier for us to solve your problem), therefore I can't give an accurate answer right now, but to increase space you either have to find what /system your rom uses and flash cfg accordingly or make an EXT2/3/4 partiton on your sd card and use a2sd.

I have the Desire version on my HD2, and i dont have Apps2SD.
I made partitions on my SD card (FAR32 of 6.5GB and EXT3 of 1GB).
What do you mean with: "use a2sd" and "flash cfg"?
Ok, as far as I can tell this is the rom you are using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010498?
Did you follow the exact instructions in post 2? Its seems that you forgot to edit flash.cfg file. Do a fresh install following the guide in in post 2, word by word.
I did not change the flash file..
it says:
misc ya 1M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize recovery-raw.img
boot yboot|ro 8M
system ya 120M
cache ya 8M
userdata ya|asize|hr allsize
Witch step do I start from?
I used this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013852
According to your rom.s thread you'd need to edit this line system ya 120M to system ya 150 from your flash.cfg and reflash hope that'll help. One more thing to use sd-ext partition download data2ext from the same page.
I now did it over again, but still have low space..
I think I even have less internal space now...
only 172 mb
Can you explain "to use sd-ext partition download data2ext from the same page." in a way a girl can understand?
That's it, there wont be more than that, maybe if you tweaked the flash.cfg you'd get ~50M more. That's where you sd-ext will come into play, its the same as your internal space but hosted in your SD, and that's where your apps and data will be stored, instead of the actual interal memory.

But how can I tweak that file... so I get more space..
Im so confused...
Sorry for all the stupid questions...
If you implement sd-ext then you don't need the extra space coz your ext2/3/4 will be used instead. As for data2sd, I think the rom you are using has a2sd, which means that if you had setup an ext2/3/4 then a2sd will automatically detect you ext partition and will install all your apps there (ext partition).
In any case here is a link to increase internal memory http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11189394&postcount=1826, now this is rom specific and I don't know if it'll work with your rom.
Ok I tried to ext sd card to 2048M and chose swap size 0M hope that will work..
MY SD card is 16gb
But it says please wait and have been like this for a long time now..
I did it!!!! Who would have known that a girl could do this!!

[Q] Stuck on bootscreen new nand rom

Today I was updating my android rom (one of the first nands) and I've updated magldr and installed CWM.
Then I installed a new rom with CWM and after reboot he keeps showing the bootscreen of the rom, I've tried another rom and it's the same...
Can anybody help me?
The most common reason for being stuck at bootscreen is improper partition size. You sure you got that right?
I've taken the largest partition size (400mb)...
you don't take the largest, but rather the most suitable. (or the one stated in the rom's thread) you should also take into consideration whether the rom NEEDS sd-ext or not.
What rom do you want to use/upgrade?
Have you met the requirements? (sd-ext/system partition/cache/radio)
I've a EU 512mb HTC HD2. I don't know my rom anymore that I used but I think its a darkforce froyo rom...
I've parted my sd with cwm: 1024ext, 64mb swap and used the 400mb CWM
Now I want to install the Runnymede 3.5 or the Desire HD 3.06.405.1 - Sense 3.0 - Android 2.3.5 [v1.4][RAFPIGNA 1.9GB], i don't know which one is better...
link to those roms please?

okay for the first one (runnymede) you need 6/200/8. that means 200mb system partition, 6 boot partition and 8 cache partition. AND A 1GB SD-EXT
And for the second one you need 5/155/5. which means 155mb system partition and 5 megs for both cache and boot. AND YOU NEED 1GB SD-EXT.
Neither of these ROMs will run under a 400mb system partition ~!
And remember, always wash your hands and wipe your phone/sd before attempting another rom

If you're using the old method, then look for a file called config.cfg, edit that using any file editor.
But if you're using the NAND Toolkit, you can edit them by selecting the desired partition from the panels on the left or the right, depending on your bootloader, and the cache is just right below those panels.

how to partition 5/155/5 internal ?

I want to try a ROM which says:
Partition Layout (5/155/5) use hd2 toolkit
SDext: min. 500mb
I am not 100% sure what does it mean SDext is probably 500 ext patition bigger than 500
5/155/5 is
5 cashe
155 data and
5 WHAT????
Cant figure this out.
Thank you
Do you have any android rom installed? If yes, then you should (I had on every rom) have an option on reboot menu: reboot, recovery and BOOTLOADER - choose this one. And there you have SETTINGS->REPARTITION NAND and there set these ones your roms prefers. If you have not, then try to install this rom choosen by you, and maybe there will be option BOOTLOADER on menu. These are partitions, for example 155data(system) is space for system (I think). But standard settings are good for me and works with every rom.
[EDIT]
Try to boot phone by holding [back] nad [Power]. This opens bootloader and there you can set all.
Partition your nand using HD2 Nand Tookit.
First 5 is boot partition set to 5 by default
155 is system partition,
next 5 is cache size.
sdext partition can be set up from recovery (in cwm recovery go to advanced menu and select partition sd card), follow instructions for your rom. This can be used as if it was internal memory by your rom..
ALSO you might want to take a look HERE..
Edit: best to post any questions about any specific ROM in the ROM thread
This question was not "how-to", but more "what does 5/155/5 mean" type of question. Last time I played with internal memory of the device all I had to do was select the appropriate CWM version. This is why I asked here, I think it belongs, cos is general knowledge kind of thing.
I kind of dont see how to fiddle the size of /boot, no problems with /data and /cashe, but since you say this is default I wont have to, I suppose.
A few days ago I was pissed of by CyanogenMod (and stock Andriod in general), cos the only option to deal with Vcards is Handsend sms, but Handsend will not search for contacts correctly in Bulgarian (CYR) when installed on vanilla Android - small letters will not match capital and vice versa in contact names. This is why I decided to go for Sense - the message app is simply better...
Rather than using toolkit, download the CWM package and inside is a file called flash.cfg. Open this file and you should get this (maybe a different system or cache size)
misc ya 1M
recovery rrecov|ro|nospr filesize recovery-raw.img
boot yboot|ro 5M

5/155/5 is basically the middle three lines, i.e. 5Mb boot partition, 150Mb system partition and 5Mb cache partition. I don't know why chefs post it like this as I'm reasonably sure the boot is always 5Mb (I've never seen differently) so they could just post the system partition size (as quite a lot do). Hope this helps

Hm, this is something I missed!
1. I use mainly Ubuntu, hence I have have to rely on Wine or a pc I almost dont use for windows
2. I have CWM and MAGLDR installed
How to re-partition based on config file only? Can I do it?
Put the config where? (sdcard, ROM.zip)
Run what in CWM.
You would make my day, since I am away form how, with my laptop only, the ROM I run has a bug with wifi tether and I have to change it, but options are quite limited, since I dont know how to re-part, I have to choose ROMs that rely on system less or equal to 155 at teh moment. And I need a Sense, since others cant receive 100% vcards in Bulgarian (CYR)

US-tmobile get install ROM) last ask was magldr or CLK installed, I installed at last CLK so choiced CLK.. on LCD I saw install complete, you may reboot, and may take 15 minutes. I saw HTC logo, but after 35 minutes in stuck htc logo, I powered off and find help. can you help me, where I failed? THX and sorry for my bad english
Follow the guide in my signature, either you followed a very bad guide or (more likely) you misunderstood a lot of it because of the language barrier. This is an outline of the steps you should be taking:
1. Install HSPL
2. Install a compatible radio
3. Install MAGLDR
4. Install CWM with the correct system partition size for your chosen ROM
5. Partition your SD card for A2SD (optional)
6. Install the ROM
7. Install any extra features you want.
Good luck

That is correct, yes, however you must also partition your SD card if you have an EU HD2 as some apps will be installed to the EXT partition of the SD. You can either do this on a PC or in CWM (see the guide in my signature for this).

How can I check if I have EU or TMOUS (this is not my phone, so I dont know it)? I am installing TMOUS, because EU install get error. and must I EXT partition creat in SD with TMOUSE? big thanks
A TMOUS HD2 will have the T-Mobile logo on the top of the phone, a red end call button and a green call button. I think that you may still need to create an EXT partition for the TMOUS one as well, now that I've had a look at the ROM.
I changed touch screen, so mabye only check button ok I think I have EU version, so I need EXT part? can you any PC tools recommend me? I think by CWM not work :/ or its possible it take format 8gb card 1 hour? I see only partitioning SD card... please wait... but really I see it 1 hour :/

Yeah, it shouldn't take an hour so it's clearly not working properly in CWM. I'd recommend using EaseUS Partition Manager, it's fairly user friendly. I don't know about the language settings though, hopefully it'll work for you.
I must be idiot :/ still nothing I formated SD card with primary partition FAT32 capacity 6,5 GB and 1 logical partition EXT (I tried EXT2 and EXT3), but If I try install EU version, by step "mount sd-ext" get error E:error name_rom.zip (status 0) isntall aborted. Any ideas? THX
