Is there a way to program a softkey to turn on the flash to use as a flashlight? this would be cool.
TIA
There is software that will do it but over time you will damage the flash by doing this.
Where can we find this program?
5 seconds in a google search for "pocketpc flashlight" returned several hits. Why don't you try it.
Although there are a lot of hits for using the *screen* as a flashlight, there are few for using the LED flash on the back of the phone.
Of the few I've found (like VJCandela), none have worked for the LED flash on the Wizard.

In all honesty should the "flash" be even called flash? The camera sucks as is and the so called "flash" doesnt do crap except help me light things up.
Yea i want a program to turn on the LED flash when im not using the camera.
Also what do you guys mean by flash in the first few posts??? The screen or actual LED.
I think famewolf's post refers to apps that illuminate the screen and usually display a white image, as a simulacrum of a flashlight. These are ok, but could do with being superlit with an app like VJLumos II (which does NOT work on the Wizard AFAIK, untested).
However, the "flash" LED, which is unlikely to cause skin cancer or sunspots, is probably what the original poster wanted to control.
This can be controlled through software.
At least on the Universal, it's brighter and more focused then just using the screen, but is known to burn out after prolonged (hours) of use.
Hence it's probably more appropriate to describe its use as being in flashes, as opposed to a reference to its meagre candescence.

Ok. So does VJCandela work with an 8125?? Also, can someone tell me a free app that will use the screen as a flashlight. I see a bunch of apps but none of them are free. Has anyone tested VJLumos II on there Wizard/8125??
I atually meant to ask this. Several times, I've noticed the flash LED lit up without me doing anything. I first noticed it about 5 days ago. Yesterday, upgraded to 2.26 ROM and still the LED turns on at seemingly random intervals.
Anyone had this problem?

i upgraded to 2.26 rom 2 days ago and havent had this issue yet....
No issues with that either.
So yes i would like to be able to control the LED not really the screen. I'd be ok if the LED busted but not my screen.
VJCandela doens't work on the Wizard. I've never had one in my hands so haven't been able to test the hardware and support it

Wizard tested! Not working, at least I could not manage...
Dats sux . Has anyone tried VJLumos II on a 8125 as well??
Same applies, VJLumos I/II was never written for or tested on the Wizard. The idea could and should work, but I'd need to have a wizard to test it and refine it on first
VJLumos I might work, but that's not recommended.

Ok, thanx Jay. They need to have those apps support more phones

Actually the problem started before I upgraded to 2.26, but I upgraded thinking that flashing my ROM would fix the problem. It might be hardware related (it's bee dropped a few times). But I guess I got the flashlight feature for free.... just have to wait for the LED to burn out.
Yes, I did a search and I did not come up with anything. The problem I have is... when I am in camera, there are options...
auto flash
flash off and the Light feature..(where the light is on so I can see what I am taking picture of, then when I take picture it flashes..)
The flash auto works
The NO flash works
The "light" feature does NOT.
Battery is full, on charger, it's not a battery or Low power issue.
This feature works on "Camcorder," mode
This feature works on "flashlight," mode
JUst NOT on camera mode.
I always do a task 29 before flashing roms.
I have used, Artemis, Energy, and a few other roms and it's still the same issue.
Am Ilooking for something that does not exist?
This phone is new, and i CAN'T remeber if it ever worked on Tmous rom, because I just used that for 10 min before flashing.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks:
The camera only has 3 options. On, Off and Auto flash. When the flash is on, that light is always on, at least on my phone... What are you trying to do?
if your batt gets below like 20% the leds will not function in order to save power

I am trying to take a picture in the 'dark," and trying to see the object, person's face etc before taking the picture. the flash when i take the picture works. I am trying to get the light to come on and stay on before the shot.
thanks for the reply.

Yea, I am aware of the 20%, my original post stated that I have in on full charge, I've had it on a charger etc. It's not a power issue, because when I switch it over to camcorder, that feature works.
It's weird..
anyhow, thanks for the reply
First, I'm running the original stock tmo ROM.
The regular still camera (not the video camera) has the 3 flash modes crisisinthecity mentioned:
On: the flash flashes for every picture you take, but isn't on until you shoot the pic
Auto: only flashes when the phone thinks it's needed
Off: no flash.
When you're using the video camera, and you hit the flash symbol, it will turn on the light even before you start recording. However, I've never seen the light come on just in regular camera mode and I've used the camera heavily since first getting the phone.
Same here... No flash until you take the picture... Stock ROM.
so, the conclusion here is that I am searching for something that doesn't exist for this phone anyway. If I remember correctly, my fuze and att tilt had the feature I was looking for.
Thanks guys for the replies.
My phone lights up for no reason.. I always have it in Android but never in Winmo, and its not build, rom or radio related. Anyone an idea why this is happening?

What lights up? screen? notification light? hardkeys?
Well let's see:
-Never in Winmo: that's mean your hardware works
-It's not build (Android build), rom(WM rom), or radio related. if you said so, there is nothing else to take the fall for.
Conclusion: ghost.
yes a ghost, now let's get real enough fooled around.
My backlight jumps on every now and then, in android, I'm currently using the disire HD rom, but I noticed it on other roms too, that my screen lights up for no reason at all. I woke up a few times when my phone led up, don't know what is causing it.. when charging it does it, I don't know if it does it when it's in my pants, I hope not, but I'm not sure, that could cause battery drain.

+1 on this one.. I have the same issue, and I don't think it's because of battery drain, because I've had it light up both when the battery is outside the notification-range (even 70%+) and when the phone is charging.
I have thought that it might be related to wifi falling out and temporarily connecting to mobile and back, but I have yet to see evidence of this.
Hopefully someone else have this "problem" (more an annoyance really ) and that we can get some more data on when or why it's happening.
It is not because of wifi because I disable it at night
Have you think of any apps that you installed can trigger that?
Setcpu maybe? Otherwise I have no idea

Search through this thread. The answer should be on the first pages, don't remember. Sorry
And you could also try using another kernel like hastarin. He always includes this file.
Cheers
I've looked around to see if there was a post about this and didn't see it. This is my problem, I was using my phone yesterday as a flashlight for like about 5 minutes when my light just started to dim little by little until it turned off. So, did I just burned my led flash? If so, is there a way to fix or do I just call it in to insurance? Thanks.
Not sure..leds generally flicker before the burn out. They are also rated to handle long cycles....so five minutes should be easy. Bt the circuitry could be burned out. Sounds like this might be a warranty issue.
I did it all from my Nookie...
This same thing just happened to me last night. What happened in your situation?
You arent supposed to leave the app on for over a minute or so. it can burn it out, and/or mess up your whole phone. it can overheat your phone. i would see if there are any other problems with it, and get it returned.

Wait hold on just one min... so the flashlight app is not safe to use? i think that not right... you're telling me i can't record a Five min video with the LED light on?
level 3 brightness(flashlight app) is what the Recording Cam use

Hmmmm.. I don't think this is right. With my myTouch slide, I have successfully had it on for slightly over 15 mins with no damage what so ever. Maybe this one was defective. Otherwise, even on stock rom, the flashlight app wouldn't be there. But I don't know. Maybe like I said, it was defective. Thanks anyways.
Just came from the Zinx CM7 thread where he is warning the torch mode can burn out your LEDs.

Yes your flash is slowing and painfully dying out.

I had this problem on my Google Nexus 5X (on stock rom) and I changed it, to bunch of different ROMs and the flash worked on everyone, currently I've got it on some *android 12 AOSP without gapps something like that, maybe you could try to (unlock the bootloader) and then (flash TWRP *custom recovery*) and then go into TWRP and wipe your operating system then flash your choosen custom ROM then see if it works. Also I see that you have gotten one from warranty, that's great! I hope this helps other people, and you also get some new features with those custom ROMs! Or just update your outdated device upto 4 or more version ahead of when it got discontinued, * I'm sending from my LG G8 currently, that I got to try to mod, but cant figure out how to unlock the bootloader, but that's fine its my main device rn, I have a Google pixel 6 pro for that and the Google Nexus 5X )))
Hi,
I've finally received my Nexus 4, and quickly upgraded to Android 4.2.2
One thing I noticed is that my notification LED does not seem to light up when receiving email from the Gmail app, nor does it light up while charging the phone using the LG charger.
Edit:I've just noticed a white LED notification for email... I didn't notice it before because it was very low-key and had a large time interval.
Is it supposed to be like this, or is the phone faulty?
P.S. Does the LG charger make a rattling noise for anyone else when it is not connected to the phone?

I know that the LED is not supposed to light up when charging (some custom ROMs have this feature though) and the charger "rattling" is a known issue.
The gmail thing is software side, for sure. So I'd say your phone is fine

the led notifications on stock rom aren't that great. they have a very long pause in between each flash so it's hard to see.
download and use lightflow. i purchased it from the play store and it was definitely worth it. you will get the ability to customize how and when the led flashes and for which app you'd like to receive notifications from.

I hated LightFlow on my GNex, and I still hate it on my N4. I much prefer CyanogenMod's custom LED notifications. They actually work like they're supposed to, and don't get stuck on.
Light Flow works great on my N4. Have a look at the thread on it in the Apps forum, you'll see the number of people having problems is very small.
