Yes, I did a search and I did not come up with anything. The problem I have is... when I am in camera, there are options...
auto flash
flash off and the Light feature..(where the light is on so I can see what I am taking picture of, then when I take picture it flashes..)
The flash auto works
The NO flash works
The "light" feature does NOT.
Battery is full, on charger, it's not a battery or Low power issue.
This feature works on "Camcorder," mode
This feature works on "flashlight," mode
JUst NOT on camera mode.
I always do a task 29 before flashing roms.
I have used, Artemis, Energy, and a few other roms and it's still the same issue.
Am Ilooking for something that does not exist?
This phone is new, and i CAN'T remeber if it ever worked on Tmous rom, because I just used that for 10 min before flashing.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks:
The camera only has 3 options. On, Off and Auto flash. When the flash is on, that light is always on, at least on my phone... What are you trying to do?
if your batt gets below like 20% the leds will not function in order to save power

I am trying to take a picture in the 'dark," and trying to see the object, person's face etc before taking the picture. the flash when i take the picture works. I am trying to get the light to come on and stay on before the shot.
thanks for the reply.

Yea, I am aware of the 20%, my original post stated that I have in on full charge, I've had it on a charger etc. It's not a power issue, because when I switch it over to camcorder, that feature works.
It's weird..
anyhow, thanks for the reply
First, I'm running the original stock tmo ROM.
The regular still camera (not the video camera) has the 3 flash modes crisisinthecity mentioned:
On: the flash flashes for every picture you take, but isn't on until you shoot the pic
Auto: only flashes when the phone thinks it's needed
Off: no flash.
When you're using the video camera, and you hit the flash symbol, it will turn on the light even before you start recording. However, I've never seen the light come on just in regular camera mode and I've used the camera heavily since first getting the phone.
Same here... No flash until you take the picture... Stock ROM.
so, the conclusion here is that I am searching for something that doesn't exist for this phone anyway. If I remember correctly, my fuze and att tilt had the feature I was looking for.
Thanks guys for the replies.

how come the camera on the XDA is horrible, its grainy and dark... i tried adjusting the settings but then after i closed and reopened the camera quality was back to being bad again. is there a fix for this or is that how the camera is.
I mainly use the night mode indoors and save the auto mode for outside. Make sure you work out the settings with your computer; the best pictures on the PDA aren't always the best on the computer and vice-versa.
Oh yeah, I don't think you can make most of the settings stick other than the auto/daylight/dark etc. mode.
I have another problem with my camera...
When i take a shot, the image displayed in the viewfinder before capturing, is perfectly lit with the right brightness-contrast etc.
But when i capture an image, it brightens it up until the image bleeds, and its terrible....I tried to adjust different settings, but it still did the same.
Its good for night shots, but during day time, i get 80% of my pixels completely white!
Not too bothered, as the camera is actually pointless for me....and besides, i'm not the "take pictures often" kinda guy!

i found turning off 3g, and using gsm has helped a lot with all aspects of my phone. the camera looks a LOT better compared to a week ago when it was on 3g. back then, i thought it was completely unusable..thats how bad the quality was. and i had tried night time mode indoors, and it all jjust came out blurred
where's the camera tweak post? i'm starting not to like this phone, there is way to many tweaks and changes that have to be done to it just to make it an 'ok' usable phone.

What ROM version are you using? We are all referring to the latest I-Mate and QTEK ROM. You might be using the old version of O2 which does not have those pixel dots.

In these days i'm using camera and i have this problem, is there a solution???
If anyone is still there I havve a problem. When I tried to update it. i think it failed and got stuck on the serial v1.00 botloader. Luckily I found a way to fix that. May one of you please supply the 1.30.79 WWE QTEK-TMobile rom please I cannot find it. Also I ahve a 4gb that's not working with my device. Could it be possible that my rom is to old and the update for 4gb cards haven't been set in place fo r that rom? This the only time I've heard of a 4g card not working. Please help. I think its a 2005 rom
Sorry if this is a dumb question but is there a way to turn on the flash for video recording in the dark? If there is I can't seem to find it in options. Thanks
Unfortuntly, there is not. It's very lame as you can still see the flash icon but it is grayed out. Not sure why they did'nt just ad it. Maybe there will be a future hack that will allow it. Who knows.
You may be able to find a "flashlight" type app that turns the flash on/off and use that to turn it on prior to recording....not sure though.
I haven't been able to find an app for our incredible activating the dual LED Flash (as a flash light). Has anyone had any luck?
Since these phones are so thin, there's not much room for heat dissipation so it's likely the LEDs are not designed to stay on for long periods of time. That's probably why HTC didn't design the LED flash feature into the video mode.
Even when an LED torch application is developed for the Incredible, it's probably not a good idea to run the LEDs at full brightness for very long... unless someone wants to risk their Incredible to test it. Nothing like trial and error.
LED light
get in the Market and look up "IncrediLight"
it works very well has low/med/high/off
very basic
tried on rooted phone and shuts off right when you go to record... lame
My moto droid running BB v.03 turned the flash on and off for video.. Not sure if he added something extra to make it work or if it was part of 2.2 camera settings.
When I first installed Incredilight, it would shut off while using the camcorder. After installing the leaked ota, it now stays on. Have no idea why, but it works great.
i posted this in the mdjeey thread but i don't if it is of any use i will repost it here
" i thank mdj for his work , this morning i noticed something that could explain the eratic battery drain of our device , when i was filming for a friend some configuration instructions ( which is by the way , by far simple than writing it ). the proximity sensor emits flashing lights permanently ( not seen by eye but only with the film) thing i could not reproduce on wm.
my radio is the latest one , my wm rom the latest of dutty, my android build the mdj sense hd 4.4 with 7.7 kernel.if someone treated the subject before excuse then if not, has somebody noticed this , mdj what do you think about it ?
edit :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkyYFLUjzaM and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1hdqIFzquw "
You just might be on to something here...
I just tried this myself with the built-in iSight of my iMac. Apparently the proximity sensor is an infrared sensor, which uses ir light pulses to calculate distance.
Within Android it starts emitting pulses as soon as you unlock the phone. It stays pulsing until the phone falls asleep. So, that I can confirm.
Within Windows Mobile (see my WM ROM in my signature), it doesn't show up. However, I noticed, that my proximity sensor doesn't work anymore in WM. I don't use WM anymore, that's why I installed a minimal build.
Could someone check with a stock ROM when the proximity sensor is working (just keep it in front of your webcam to check). I suspect it only works when you're using the dialer, or when a call is in progress.
If the devs would be able to limit the activity of the proximity sensor to the dialer or use it in conjunction with the g-sensor, it might decrease the drainage.
Sincerely,
Mac
I just tried for myself and I can also confirm this. Build is NexusHD2 v1.6 by tytung. Kernel hastarin 8.1. Also, this is not visible by naked eye but is visible when filmed with camera.
update.
Just updated to v1.8, kernel hastarin 8.5.3_oldcam and same behavior occurs. In meantime I tried WM and sensor is offline until call is established

Do you have stock WM ROM to check it's behaviour?
No. Energy cookie rom here. As I said before, in WM this "IR blinker" is off until I establish call. then goes off again after call is finished.
That is a really good catch and I can confirm that my HD2 in android also does the same thing. When I press the end call key for it to go in standby the light goes off as soon as I press the end call button to wake it up it starts flashing again.
Edit: I should also note that I'm using MDJ 4.3 Android build, and Windows Mobile is stock from TMOUSA
I've seen this mentioned before. I hadn't thought of using my webcam to view it.
I'm unsure if this is a bug with the kernel, or a side affect of the way Android works.
I've noted it on my list but unfortunately kernel development seems to have stalled lately and I'm not sure the main devs are even looking at my list.
Hopefully things pick up again in the new year.
I think it is the same chip that handles light and proximity sensing, called cm3602, so as long as you have auto backlight enabled, you will see the blinking.

i am not an expert in the domain of electronics, so i'll take the thing about the chip for granted, but the thing about autoblacklight , i don't think is the answer cause the autoblacklight in WM is on and that blicking thing does not happen !
and my purpose was not to incriminate this or that , but to say just that ,that thing could be the reason why the battery drains so fast on android builds (other than the permanent internet connection )

I didn't make a hard statement, I just said what I think, so you should not take it for granted. I didn't test it extensively in WM, but I saw the blinking in WM for a short period before EBL started android boot. Are you 100% sure that the blinking is not there in WM even if the light sensor is working? I tried to find some info about cm3602, it seems to be a dumb device without any configuration interface.
check dmesg if it is full of "intr_status=0x02".
The problem is that when you use toolchain other than 2010q1 (http://www.codesourcery.com/sgpp/lite/arm/portal/release1293) ,
proximity sensor driver doesn't work properly. After its first activation, it just doesn't stop. It continuously polls in an infinite loop. That's why you see those blinkings which are probably infrareds. It was causing too much current drainage (65mA) for me even in suspend. Now, i used the above toolchain to compile the kernel and it is around 10mA in suspend.
So; if you are compiling your own kernel, use the above toolchain. If you are using someone else's kernel, tell him to use it.
EDIT: I realised that this isn't the problem that you observe, this was just another problem that I faced.

Our problem is, proximity sensor is running even if there is "no call". It should be online only during the call for power saving purposes.

+1 on this
Seeing this problem in miui builds when getting ~60ma standby
Should I be able to see it when recording with a regular hdv camcorder? I tried it but don't see the light.
Edit: My mistake, it is there just very small and I had to zoom way in. It's on as soon as the screen turns on and stays on. It does turn off though when the screen goes off. It does explain that I get good standby power drain but when typical useage time is not nearly as good as winmo.
oh man .. this is really good stuff .. if this is true .. and this really solves the high battery drainage on andriod(on HD2) .. i would be so damn happy .. no reason to sell my HD2 and get the Desire HD anymore.
thanks to threadstarter
I couldn't find anything to disable the proximity sensor but I found a small program that reports the sensor readings.
When I put my finger over the sensors, the light sensor takes about 2 seconds to go from 160lux to 10lux, while the proximity sensor changes instantly from far to near.
the blinking does not make the screen react more quickly when in call
I've looked around to see if there was a post about this and didn't see it. This is my problem, I was using my phone yesterday as a flashlight for like about 5 minutes when my light just started to dim little by little until it turned off. So, did I just burned my led flash? If so, is there a way to fix or do I just call it in to insurance? Thanks.
Not sure..leds generally flicker before the burn out. They are also rated to handle long cycles....so five minutes should be easy. Bt the circuitry could be burned out. Sounds like this might be a warranty issue.
I did it all from my Nookie...
This same thing just happened to me last night. What happened in your situation?
You arent supposed to leave the app on for over a minute or so. it can burn it out, and/or mess up your whole phone. it can overheat your phone. i would see if there are any other problems with it, and get it returned.

Wait hold on just one min... so the flashlight app is not safe to use? i think that not right... you're telling me i can't record a Five min video with the LED light on?
level 3 brightness(flashlight app) is what the Recording Cam use

Hmmmm.. I don't think this is right. With my myTouch slide, I have successfully had it on for slightly over 15 mins with no damage what so ever. Maybe this one was defective. Otherwise, even on stock rom, the flashlight app wouldn't be there. But I don't know. Maybe like I said, it was defective. Thanks anyways.
Just came from the Zinx CM7 thread where he is warning the torch mode can burn out your LEDs.

I had this problem on my Google Nexus 5X (on stock rom) and I changed it, to bunch of different ROMs and the flash worked on everyone, currently I've got it on some *android 12 AOSP without gapps something like that, maybe you could try to (unlock the bootloader) and then (flash TWRP *custom recovery*) and then go into TWRP and wipe your operating system then flash your choosen custom ROM then see if it works. Also I see that you have gotten one from warranty, that's great! I hope this helps other people, and you also get some new features with those custom ROMs! Or just update your outdated device upto 4 or more version ahead of when it got discontinued, * I'm sending from my LG G8 currently, that I got to try to mod, but cant figure out how to unlock the bootloader, but that's fine its my main device rn, I have a Google pixel 6 pro for that and the Google Nexus 5X )))
Hi,
For two days, I have the autofocus of the camera that works all the time in standby mode only This is "click" at regular intervals
Including when I reboot, I hear just before you see the first screen of boot ...
By cons, as soon as I leave the standby mode before, no problem except that the camera is no longer the point, the autofocus does not work ...
And really weird is that this "click" I think varies according to the occupation of the CPU because if I leave an application running and I goes to sleep, I do not hear it!
I made a task29, wipe all over the place, install new rom, and also an original rom ... Even removing the phone to see if something was not disconnected but I have not found.
Do you have an idea how to cope ?
Or maybe a way to reset the memory lowest level because I think it is software, not hardware (well I think).
Thank you to those who can give me help.
Regards.

Always the same problem with a fresh install of sense 3 with last kernel of Rafpigna...
no one has ever had this problem of noise camera in standby mode or to boot the phone?
Is it possible that this is a hardware problem?
What is really strange is that as soon as I get out of standby mode, the noise stops! And when I want to take a picture, the autofocus does not work ...
Task29 can't help me... Always the same issue... I tried WM7 I know it's sad but it does not change (I did not expect less).
No one can help me ??

will it also autofocus all time when you dont got a rom installed?
Hi j4n87,
This is exactly the same problem, I can see the lens moving like that...
this is just since a week. it worked fine before !
This is after installing a version MIUI (when I had already installed several versions before without problems).
I try everything but I can not recover the normal operation of the camera.
Can you help me more ??
Thank you.

I found that if I put in airplane mode, so no use of radio, there is no noise of the autofocus ...
I will try to degraded version of the radio to see if it changes something.
Alas no, it does not change, still the noise of the camera.
RESOLVED...
yay it works thanks to Dimension2035 (thank you very much for his invaluable help).
This is what to do:
- To MAGLDR
- Download the version of tytung
- Make the phone operational by using a little (there is always noise)
- Remove the battery overnight: miracle, everything works.
I'm really happy.
Here is the solution.
Regards and again thanks to Dimension2035
