I just wanted to give Haykuro a couple thoughts...It looks like you have learned a valuable lesson in life today. We as consumers have an obsession with the latest and greatest in all forms retail crap we can get our hands on. Just think of all the people who waited in line for a Wii over night (me included), the Playstations, Xboxes and to go back even further, the Tickle me Elmo and cabbage patch kids. The people who got these items were generally over joyed with a sense of accomplishment because the felt so resourceful, and they could say "I have what everyone else wants." This is sad, but it is now part of our nature. Googles delay of cupcake is what ruined YOUR forum. This brought the flood of people to xda. It will not stop now, the snow ball has begun.
I for one was just bragging to my wife about you (a 17 year old kid) doing what you do. This operating system isn't even in its infant stages yet, and I truly feel like this is the "windows" of the future. You are on the top of the game right now kid. You will do very well for yourself if you keep doing what your doing. I hope you find a way to market yourself, and find a forum with guidelines on who can post and keep doing your thing. Don't waste your talent man. Peace
Yeah, it's sad to see Haykuro leave, he did a great job, but i'm guessing the mod's wont like this thread very much.
I've already made the offer to him for that very thing. A well managed and moderated forum without any drama. I'd like to have seen that happen here, but this is only one part of a much larger community.....and the staff seems overwhelmed by the sheer amount of people.
NEVER mention Windows and Android in the same sentence! NEVER!!! lol.
I know, it's such a disgrace to Windows
Anyhow, please use the existing threads to post your comments.
i came across this and it made me laugh:

i thought i'd share the chuckles and ask...
are we evo warriors a cult??
ps.
i've myself shared quite a few smiles whenever i come across another evo warrior.
I'm hoping for moments like this when school starts up, my mom is gunna kill me if I tell her about another cool new custom kernel

Yes. Now finish your god damned Kool-Aid like a good little purple robe wearing white sneaker shoe wearing follower.
I'll refrain from commenting about how we're different from CoA, since that horse has been beaten dead, rezzed, and killed again.
According to Wikipedia (which is never wrong):
Cult pejoratively refers to a group whose beliefs or practices could be, reasonably or unreasonably, considered strange.
Cult? Not so much. I agree with one of the comments under the article though. There does seem to be a community spirit amongst Android users. I'm new to both Android and the XDA forums but I have been very impressed with how willing and helpful this group of people seems to be.
mmm...this seems rather fitting....just hold "Android" and "Apple" in your mind...i'm sure you can figure which column is which.

(i have not read any other page on this site and prolly don't agree with him...this is for entertainment purposes only.)
we encourage individualism
Android helps us meet our needs
we encourage independent critical thinking
we encourage technical integration
like the clergy, it's not right for the devs to take sexual advantage of their followers
ok...so we're not always respectful to critics and non-searching fools
we do cherish our devs
we do encourage folks to search before asking a question
etc...
all hail Andy

yes... but at least we have something to be excited about
Lol I say its more broad as android as a whole.....not evo specific....
Just the other day I was at the car wash getting my car done and another person there had an evo and saw mine. He grilled my phone for a bit and I grilled his but that was it....lol
Considering there is about a grand total of 3 or 4 people working on releasing ROMs for the Fascinate: how is it that there are so many dev-snobs and assholes who go out of their way to insult and make fun of anyone who tries their hand at development?
I don't know anyone on here personally.. However, as someone who is very interested in seeing development continue for this phone, I am constantly shocked recently at the unhelpful, snide and outright mean remarks being made towards people who are interested in helping provide ROM options for the Fascinate.
(Disclaimer: I've made 5+ donations to developers on here, and consider myself a supporter of anyone who works on this phone.)

im sure this will be a long ramble, so bare with me
first and foremost there several issues here:
1. the reaction/action of end users in forum threads and posts
2. the perceived "dev-snob"
3. lack of welcoming of a new "dev" by existing ones (really 2 and 3 can go together)
4. what makes someone a "developer" and the downward spiral in skill level of those who "develop"
(notice i put develop and developer in quotes a lot)
for starters there are often times here on xda (and other places) where there is blatant trolling and arguing in threads. In some cases its actually pretty funny, with light hearted jabs at one another, other times its pointless and wrong. ive been in my share of arguments and flame wars with people posting ridiculous stuff in my threads before (many of those said folks are now perma banned from here) and admittedly ive poked my nose in where it probably didnt belong in others' threads.
all in all i think the mods do an ok job of walking the line of enforcement. we've done ok with those who have moderated the fascinate forums...some of the other phones have mods who...well i wont say something ill regret
as to the "dev-snob" statement...yeah sure, there does tend to be a period of adjustment or questioning or confusion by existing rom/kernel/mod "devs" when someone pops out of nowhere and starts releasing stuff...the majority of the time, once a person proves their abilities, skills, or are generally a nice person who wants to learn or work with you that period of questioning dies down and all is well...more often than not though, people don't pop out of nowhere...they are forum or irc regulars who have expressed interest in working on stuff or theyre more well known on another device, and we are just getting acquainted with them
but there is the rare occasion (which seems to be the case the last month or two here) where an individual started their entrance into the community with a plethora of hype threads, posts, and otherwise where they claimed their "long awaited rom" would soon becoming. this is annoying enough, but when the long awaited works put out are nothing to really shake a stick at, ie just differently themed existing roms with placebo mods or completely inexplicable things done (market apps in /system/ on an aosp rom) it further irritates others.
imo thats getting off on the wrong foot
furthermore its gotten worse...insane claims that border on delusional have become the norm, ie: hybrid ios/webos roms for the fascinate! 245/23rds of the community use my roms! i dont remember making this thread! the rom will be out tomorrow...i mean the day after...i mean 2013!
or just examples of n00bness that would otherwise be fine (decompiling a jar anyone?) if not for the surrounding hype associated to one's abilities
in the past fascinate devs havent always gotten along...i think anyone around in the spring knows that tsm and friends didnt particularly get along with nitro for many reasons that i wont get into atm...but on the whole collaboration is frequent, legitimate friendships or at least good relationships amongst others are common as well.
now what makes a developer? i put that term in quotes so often because what who we classify as a developer is quite misleading really. I know at times ive considered myself as one or stated it as such (usually when irritated about something), but honestly by any real characterization as such im not..nor is scores of others who are considered in a similar way.
at best, most of us are modders/kangers who are good with comparing code created by smarter individuals than ourselves and then applying the differences to create newer/better/different roms etc. this is especially true to those of who work specifically on skin roms (touchwiz, sense, etc) because..the rom already exists, we just package a bunch of these mods in, clean it up and throw it out.
now that is an over simplification, and its actually a harder process than i make it sound, but its true.
now for folks who build aosp and kernels, id be more inclined to consider them a developer...linux adept individuals who build os/roms from scratch or at least with heavy contributions by themselves...again thats not the case for everyone, as just building a kernel from someone's source with some undervolt or overclock tweaks isnt much different than hacking a stock rom.
the same can be said for someone who compiles aosp from again, someone else source and makes minimal changes to it (theme, shoving some apps in, changing launchers)
no less than adrynalyne, doesnt even really consider himself a developer and is constantly brushing aside that tag
in the earlier stages of android (g1 through say the early og inc/evo4g days) the individuals who worked on roms and kernels were generally people who were either self taught with linux, went to school for something in the computer field, or worked in it.
since then (myself included) individuals who gradually got into rooting, and running custom roms and themes etc have come on the scene. i personally have no computer background and hadnt heard of linux until i got an android phone...eventually wanting to put different themes on my phone got me into understanding the structure of a rom (like many others have started out) and from there I got more involved.
the problem with this is, there is generally a mindset or chip on the shoulder that a lot of newer folks carry, and imagine themselves more important or greater than they really are...some of these individuals (and even those from the beginnings, cant execuse all of them) are great at self promoting and gathering supporters...just look at a certain other samsung phone on verizon, where an individual has become incredibly popular for releasing *throms* with little mods..but i digress
to me, a great majority of said folks can be snakes, begging for donations or notoriety or their own little version of fame
anyway, ive gotten off the beaten path and covered stuff that wasnt asked by the op...hope ive made *some* sense in some parts anyway
theres something to be commended for wanting to help out and get involved...but the term chopper coined says it well: "lurk, learn, and stfu"
hang around, gradually learn stuff, and keep quiet while doing so
it's teh interweb forums... if you take this **** that serious you have a problem.
Thanks for the post, @nitsuj17! I think you explained it very well... I also like the Chopper quote, and have tried my best to do that.
@droidstyle - That's a cop-out and a lame excuse if you ask me.

point is I have never for the most part noticed any dev or member being a **** to somebody that didn't deserve it. I'm sure the devs don't mind anybody trying to develop, but you better come correct. meaning;
ask before you kang somones work.
properly credit the devs work your using.
don't take another devs rom add a bunch of market add-ons and call it your own.
don't start a bs poll trying to get more recogniton and compare yourself to a well respected dev that has pretty much taken the fascinate to a new level.
I'm pretty sure the member you are referring to didn't follow along these lines and that's why he/she gets super trolled

This is the dynamic of the interactions in any walk or at any stage in life whether it's middle, high school, your job, your friends or any social circle. Why would you think it would be any different here.? We're a bunch of regular guys that have two things in common: our love for android and disdain for apple. The rest is natural human behavior
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
The following extracts should suffice for the behavior I have been seeing lately in the threads:
Please be friendly: Showing courtesy and respect to others is a vital part of the Android culture, and we expect everyone participating in the Android community to join us in accepting nothing less. Being courteous does not mean we can't constructively disagree with each other, but it does mean that we must be polite when we do so. There's never a reason to be antagonistic or dismissive toward anyone; if you think there is, think again before you post. Mobile development is serious business, but it's also a lot of fun. Let's keep it that way. Let's strive to be one of the friendliest communities in all of open source.
The most important rule is friendliness. Remember: disrespect and rudeness are not welcome in our community under any circumstances.
http://source.android.com/community/groups-charter.html
2. Member conduct.
2.3 Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.5 Courtesy towards other Members: Treat new members the way you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instruction when you can and always with respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner.

Teichopsia you little good for nothing.... lol I kid.
I try to be polite and helpful as possible, but seeing the same attitude to ignore the rules of searching slowly changes people.
This is just my experience. When I first joined xda,I was fascinated with this large community and all the knowledge and information floating around. I always viewed xda as a place where one should pro actively search and learn, then contribute.
But after a while you see that this is not the case and the same question gets asked over and over. Or you have people state"I don't have time to read 100pages". I can't comprehend that. If your going to modify your phone I would read all I could BEFORE attempting it. I read and learned a whole month before rooting. Once I decided I've given stock its run I was beyond prepared when I rooted.
At first I was eager to help, but slowly I've been less so. Its sad really but I've skipped through many threads where I knew I could help but because I saw no effort in the poster I ignored it. To an extent I get the attitude of those that have been here towards the new people but I rather just go on with my day
You would have laughed if you could have seen my face when I read your first line.
I know what you mean. This is my first smartphone and all the research I put into it just to make sure I would get a good phone and that It would work in the country where I live. I skipped the whole blackberry mania (oddly, I dislike anything the masses go for - probably a good thing) and perhaps I'll even take a pic of my last phone (perhaps that way you guys can forgive half of my noobishness )
I too was eager to help at first and still am if I can. I have lost my patience a few times reading certain questions that don't merit being accepted by the submit button. While going through this phase I luckily came across a few posts which reminded me of what is was like being a new member (despite the fact that I spent the first month or so reading before my first post).
However, whatever the reasons are do not excuse the answers I have been reading lately from some members. It is as the more they/we complain about the "noobish questions" the angrier they/we get. Thus, resulting in posts that can get quite offensive.
Granted, they should read the op, etc. And all that, but seriously, who are we/you (not you marsdta) to be so arrogant?
We all come from different backgrounds, differences in all manners, including intellectually, but what is happening to common courtesy? Respect? If we don't put a stop to it now, it's going to get out of control.

I can be arrogant at times I admit that. Sadly some of the negative comments don't bother me. Hear me out first. Xda has in a sense become an aspect of me. When I wake up its one of the first things I check. That's another issue entirely. But I do view xda as a community that I have personal investment. So when I see those questions I feel somewhat personally insulted. Like if the poster basically said screw you. Kind of weird.
I think some of those that been here a while might feel the same. So the frustration build and erupts in the threads. I've written a few nasty replies but have caught myself and hit delete before posting.
Common courtesy is not really common on the internet because of that wall of being anonymous. Add in the fact that we all do come from different places things get interesting. personally I would be more tough on the rule breakers while others may be more lenient. In the end the evolution of communication is quite interesting as the internet allows people to be filter less

Nontheless if you have or haven't been, at least you are able to restrain yourself. I too have been somewhat rude at times.
We could go back and forth argumenting this and that. Which is fun. We both would have valid points (between us, you would probably win the argument ), the bottom line is, not only are there rules to search before posting, there are also rules to respect one another. If one person breaks the rule of not searching, would that give the right to the other member to break the rule of respecting? Sure, we all have our bad days. Yes, we can loose our patience, **** happens. What I can't condone is page after page of 'bashing'. That's just me.
After reconsidering what I was about to become (I'll probably loose my patience again - it's normal), and taking into consideration the little I know about xda, I would have thought this place is about helping others learn. Even if that means to hold their hands for a while until they learn, or just say screw it if they are the type that wants to be spoon fed everything.
All I'm saying is, if someone can't be nice then to do what you do, hit that delete button and ignore them.
On a side note this is my previous cell which was a gift from a friend who got tired of seeing my 'old phone' with a rubber band around it. - hopefully after seeing this you guys will be a bit patient with any future questions I may have.

Lol jk.
I agree with you 110% I always try and be helpful when I answer the new guys cause I know how they feel. My DHD is my first Android phone and I learnt so much from it. I spent two days straight reading and watchng YouTube videos before I had the guts to root and join xda so it can be pretty terrifying when something doesnt work the way you want it to. So yeah bein friendly and helpful can go a long way, especially when you're new and don't know too much about android/rooting/your device

Excellent thread guys. To me it's so simple. If a post is not worthy in your mind, don't respond to it. Someone else might help out. Or perhaps the person asking the question will get frustrated waiting for a response and search it out. There is just never a reason, in my mind, to respond in a nasty way.

As Mentioned below I am somewhat medicated.I have discovered a neat post including a video guide for for what I assume is my phone. I HOPE this is what is referred to in the video guide!!I have a Model number SGH_1337 and it a baseband version 1337UCUAMF3I apologize for posting while toasted. and am going to watch the video and gather my cojones in preparation for jumping off the Rooting cliff and either plummeting or flying. Either way I shan't be bored. I got to the point I had all the hospital cable channels memorized as wel las the menu. Know when certain nurses began and ended their shifts turned out to be useful. I'm old but not dead so rather thatn edit out all the idiotic bits below I left them as a warning to others thinking of posting whislt blotto..)
I know the proper thing to do is spend the time and effort reading and studying these forum posts before begging for help. But I've just spent a long time in hospital, and am still whacked out on oxycodone pain meds.
I have, thru the generosity of a close friend, an At&T Galaxy S4 it's a 1337 and the baseband is the MF#. I've become obsessed with the idea of getting rid of the scummy only Jellybean and getting KitKat. Mind you I'm in my mid 60's and only recently discovered I had to1. learn how to drive again. (I DESTROYED a canned beans display recently) I was refereed to as an old Geezer by some young twentysomething. He Damn near saw my angry old man thing, and 2. lean how to use my GD telephone again.
I have some REALLY dumb questions that I KNOW must have been answered a million times before but I just can't did out the info. SO if you're going to be pissed just shoot me in the head and get it over quickly.
Is there a way to Root my new phone, put a KickAss ROM on it, and if I change my mind revert it back to it's old boring self so as to not loose my warranty etc.
I won't send anyone some of my pain meds.It seems when you get old you actually NEED them. But I will be happy to help anyone come to Alaska and have one HELL of a good time. I've got some good connections in the hospitality industry, and would be happy to help someone plan a hiking, camping, hunting (NOT "Trophy" hunting, and especially fishing trip. I haven't been able to be in a stream with my fly rod looking for monster Rainbows in two years. My Back is shot. But I have hopes of getting it fixed. But I can help plan a bare bones trip all the way up to one where they meet your float plane as it taxis into your remote lodge. Often it's a luscious lady in waders with a silver tray that has your favored beverage on it lest you pass out fro the exertion of walking to the bar.
In all seriousness I would be happy to help any one of you super geeks to come and as a buddy of mine puts it "Get some Alaska on ya". For the record Palin is a fake and an embarrassment to the VAST majority of us. But I REALLY want to learn how to make my phone MINE.
I'm not COMPLETELY dim, I have an old A+ Cert and came within one test of becoming a Microsoft "Engineer" (MCSE) Actaully I learned how to pass tests, I LEARNED I didn't have the twenty years of experience it took to become what I had originally thought an MCSE would provide.
Any takers, helpers
I saw something called KitKat KANGAKAT Custom ROM at another site that looked interesting but it's obvious THIS is the nexus of everything ANDROID SUPER GEEK.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing
I'm hoping I have the phone the video talks about!
So IS it possible to root my phone or not. A consensus seems to be lacking...

CZ EDDIE beat me to it.
For your baseband 1337UCUAMF3, there currently only exists root method. We're unable to install ROM's on it, as the bootloader is still locked.
(Surfing through the forums for the past 3 days, I've been able to glean that info).

Yes, you can root, yes you can install CERTAIN custom rom's... and yes you can go back to stock if you don't like it.

Ugh, can people NOT read the stickied threads on the top of the forum? All of this information was on the front page of the General section and took absolutely no more then 2 minutes to find and I didn't even need to search. Sorry I sound harsh, it rubs off after being both a administrator and moderator of other forums (NOT HERE)... it irritates me when people can't read the important post that are stuck for a reason.

Thank you! There's a thread about rooting mk2 that pops up daily. They know the freaking answers to it but still ask the same question. Oh is it safe? Well people are using it taking their own risks just do it yourself if you want your phone rooted.

Ok great. Thank you. I was under a wrong assumption.
I ended up following your posts, and saw you've made a sorta WIP list of all the ROM's that can be flashed via Safestrap on MF3. I'll be following what you have in your signature, and making the 4.2.2 Google Edition my Stock Rom.
Quick question, if you or anyone following the thread can guide me to --->
Where can I find a user guide, on SafeStrap 3.65, which shows how to flash ROMs on Stock Rom?
Thank you very much for your patience and your continuing help

("EDIT"
