Ice cream sandwich released Oct or Nov - Fascinate General

Anyone see this article? Think we would get some options for fascinate with this? Also rumor has it that when this is released they are going to release the kernel source code for gingerbread which would make the custom roms that much better. Can't wait to see what we got. I'd post this in development section but I don't have rights there yet.

I don't understand the point of this thread. All Eric Shdmidt said was that ICS would be released October/November. Not sure where your getting your rumours from, and we don't know if ICS will be avaliable officially or unofficially for other phones.

Wasn't looking for an asshole reply but thanks anyway

Phew!! you should consider yourself lucky you didn't post this in dev.... The source for gingerbread mesmerize kernel has been out for a week. And some changes/fixes have already been implemented in some stuff. Mainly mtd roms.
good day.

Well I did say fascinate which I know the kernel hasn't been released yet cause there is not an official Verizon gb rom.

It seems you haven't been around long. But on the VZW fascinate the kernel is identical to the uscc mesmerize. So when the mesmerize got froyo and kernel source was released we had fun custom kernels on the facinate based off of ec10. And when the vzw fascinate kernel source was finally released. No one made a kernel off of it because it was the same code. Now we find history is repeating itself. Mesmerize get upgrade (gingerbread), source released, and devs for fascinate use source to fix things and make kernels for the vzw facinate.
good day.

Not known which phones? It's pretty widely known that the Nexus Prime series will be the first phones to run ICS, namely the Droid Prime by Samsung.

Well receiving the official rom and the source are two different things. You can do much more with the source like making kernels that are much more stable and fast and build better roms.

Let's put it this way, the Nexus S will be getting ICS, and the Atrix basically has twice the specs. So the Atrix on paper can support ICS.
The bigger question is how the carriers are going to allow this?
Bottom line, whether it's OTA or CM7 we will see ICS in some fashion on the Atrix...

Agreed, I know that the Atrix will get this in some sort of fashion, the only thing that I "worry" about is the finger-print scanner. I wonder if this will delay the Atrix from getting it sooner, since it is a completely unique device. I just hope the FPS doesn't get left out.

I know google had mentioned that devices currently running gingerbread would be able to run ICS (hardware-wise). Its still up to the manufacturers to create those OTA updates...
Of course will be totally compatible with Atrix! Nexus doesnt have a hardware so different to Atrix! This is the difference between Apple and Google. When Apple says about iOS, they put a date and always launch a public final one week later. Now, Android its a blah blah, all depends of third person, its a shame an OS that grows up like this and have like half of customers in world, they treat us like this. shame!

I read somewhere (no source: read at your own risk) that ics is made for omap processors and Tegra devices (ie. Atrix) will take a while longer to develop... At least through official channels - here's hoping to official CM support!

Wrong. Just like how honeycomb's designated SoC was Tegra 2, the designated SoC for ICS is the OMAP 4. IE Google determined that they were the best SoC available at the time and built their flagship device using that particular processor. It has nothing to do with porting android to various SoCs.

[Q] Will CyanogenMod 9 [ICS] on Fascinate be far behind like CM7

Does anyone know if a stable CM9 for Fascinate will be released far behind the release for other phones? Similar to CM7? Or will stable builds be released at the same time for all CM supported devices?
Personally I think the version we have now is pretty stable. As they add their tweaks and settings well get them. Either through jt or a Kang from someone.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
It shouldn't. The reason CM7 took awhile was because a Fascinate version was created from the bottom up. Now that they have a base, CM9 should be out as quickly as any other phone.

maybe cuz these phones are gsm ones. and closer to the international one.
These are not official Samsung builds, these are builds by Team ICSSGS. They are basically pure vanilla builds with no additional software or modifications, except for a few to get them to work on the listed devices. Thus no Touchwiz.. IIRC, Team ICSSGS began this project in November and have had these 3 phones with ICS since January.
nvm already been stated.
If your on XDA then you know we have ICS, so who cares? Even better it's cm9. Even better Marcusant keeps kanging other ICS based builds through it.

in what ways would this help or benefit us just curious is all? is it less aggresive TW so that we have more RAM? but seeing how we already have AOSP isn't that much smaller than TW already?
Honestly, I don't think the ram in the epic is enough for CM9, it just barely gets by IMO, so tw? Sorry but no, too bloated. Even the processor has a hard time keeping up with cm9, all that TW bloat would cripple it.
And yes, I still have my epic, and I carry it around everywhere. Just permanently in airplane mode lol.

Indeed it's coming soon so it may be easier to use Moto's drivers than using ZTE's drivers that will not provide any support for the Lapdock. The new Webtop is just the tablet mode on a bigger screen so it should be portable to make an AOSP for the Atrix.
also sony is releasing a walkman(f800) with ics and tegra 2., but don't know if is the same
hmm yes here http://www.androidcentral.com/zte-announces-grand-x and here http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/review/2192722/zte-grand-x-handson-review it seems it runs the same soc as the atrix, but it uses adifferent modem (from nvidia actually), so it might be useful.
