Hello guys, I'm few weeks from getting my Dell Venue Pro, but I'd like to ask a few questions before actually getting one.
I'm from Croatia and getting this phone here has been a true nightmare.
1. Will the marketplace and newsroom work for me here) (since I've read that it's only for people who have their live accounts registered in the US...and if that's the case, can i simply change my city in the live profile and that's it...or make a new account?)
2. Will this phone get the Mango update? (and where will I get it from)
3. Will I have to get the new firmware and is it that hard for a beginner to install the Mango? (cause here NOBODY has wp7 devices)
Thank you so much!
2) Yes, the phone will get Mango. When the official Mango update is released by Microsoft, connect your phone to your PC with a USB cable and launch the Zune software. The Zune software will automatically update your phone - very simple process.
If you want Mango before the official release, then you can follow the steps documented on the forum. However, if you're a beginner, it might be easiest to just wait the extra few days for the official release. (If you have an unlocked phone, you'll get the update very soon after release).
3) The Zune software will install your new firmware automatically. Official updates are very easy to install - Zune takes a backup of your phone and then applies the update.
Don't know the answer to 1. However, it's not a DVP-specific question, so if no-one here knows the answer, you could try asking on the main WP7 forum.
Thank you so much for your reply. Fell so much better now about it

i am wanting some help to do with my htc hd2 running windows phone 7 with the dft rom and mgldr and when i have my phone connected to my computer it brings up there is an update available but it always times out and i have tried rectifying the problem by downloading the windows phone support tool BUT this is where the problem is, i cant use this tool because the buttons on the phone have changed when the dft rom and mgldr have been installed and now i cant get my phone onto the connect to pc image screen for windows which is a black screen with the phone, cable and a laptop in it, the updates through zune will then be accepted it fails on the last step every time please help!!!! many thanks jamie.
Yes there is a update from Microsoft available for WP7 called NoDo. But a working adaptation of it for the HD2 is not available yet. It was a video released a while back showing NoDo copy and Paste feature working on the HD2 by the DFT. But it kind of seem to be holding out for the Mangoo update or something because a ROM that can either receive the update or has the update included in it has yet to surface that I know of.
So just to make sure you understand, you can not install the update no matter what you do right now. Unless you would like to jump in and steal the spot light for a minute and be the one that officially released said ROM. That is if you are so minded to do it, I personally would love to but I do not have the knowledge to do so yet.

You can play with 7389 too. No need for unlocking to play games. Just visit the MP and get what you want.

If you want to play some games, get a credit card, go into Xbox live on your phone and order a game like everyone else does.
If you want to try "home brew" games, then there is no way to roll back nodo right now...
Almost sounding like you want to hack a game, and that is a BIG no-no here...
Downgrading from NoDo
Hi,
You don't need to developer unlock your device if you want to play games (there are not homebrew games for now on WP7).
There is a solution to downgrade to 7004 rom, but it's for the advanced users. Doing this can brick your phone and avoid your warranty.
So, for advanced users who want to downgrade to be able to chevron unlock their Windows Phone, you need to download the initial ROM for your device (be careful to download the correct one if it's a branded device). These ROMs can be downloaded in the forum (posts writen by "ansar", different threads for each device).
After flashing it you lose all your personal data that is not synced with your Windows Live account.
Then, unlock the phone, and apply the xap that keep the phone unlocked (to not relock automatically).
Finally you can update your phone to NoDo with Zune.
You guys missed my point . I want to jailbreak it to play game without paying on marketplace . But after a couple of days using the phone I guess some free apps sastify me. And I think I will secure it to make sure it can get the Mango update. But just asking, is there anyway to jailbreak Nodo or downgrade the Nodo updated phone to build 7004 to jailbreak. Thanks
downgrade from nodo
Yes there is a way to do this.
Can you tell me if you have NoDo (7390) or the small security update deployed after NoDo (7392) ?
You can know this in the settings menu of your Trophy.
Because if you have NoDo (7390) you can downgrade to 70xx with Zune, in the update menu (restore).
But if you have updated to 7392 after NoDo, if you restore via Zune you will downgrade to the previous version (so NoDo 7390) where you can't unlock/jailbreak. The only way is to install a stock rom to get your phone like when you have bought him (7004). An user named Ansar have posted all the stock roms in this forum.
u use goldcard(up video)
It is quite frustrating that up to this moment, NoDo seems invincible to be jail-broken. I saw lots of work on IPhone jailbreaking but I don't know why this flame is missing on Windows Phone 7. Perhaps since it is still OS in development, devs are waiting until getting an almost complete version (maybe after Mango Update).
If you updated it yourself, you should have a pre-NoDo restore point. Plug your phone into your PC and Restore back.
Can I roll back to 7004? I currently have 7392

Yes you can roll back to 7004 from NoDo.
You have to download and flash the ROM corresponding to your phone (search for the rom in xda forum, in topics posted from Ansar.
Be careful, you will lose all your personal data (except contacts and calendar, synced with your Windows Live account).
i have got a htc 7 trophy on version 7389 i want to unlock it is it possible
I Had question to someone:
1. What the latest updates for LG Quantum AT&T?
2. What is Nodo? Are NoDo is official update from Microsoft?
3. Where i can download free Angry Birds
4. Why Google didnt make app for WP7 devices?
5. Are my data in phone memory when updating my phone are gone?
Sorry for my bad English
As a Microsoft Student Insider, I can answer these questions.
The latest update is the 7392 update. This is a minor update released after Nodo. NoDo is the codename for the first major update for the Windows Phone operating system. It is an official Microsoft update. In order to get an update, just connect your quantum to your windows system using the Zune client software. Any (and all) updates to the Windows Phone operating system that Microsoft releases is free. In regards to updating, you cannot apply the latest update directly. You must apply the updates in steps (for example, stock rom version -> 7008 -> Nodo -> 7392 -> Mango (when it is released).
Angry Birds is not free. I believe it costs $2.99 (or whatever it costs in your currency).
Probably the best reason that Google didn't make Windows Phone versions of its apps is because it already has Android (and if it did make them, Google would just be feeding its competition).
Any data that was on your device before an update is applied will be there after the update. During the update process, the Zune client backs up the files on your system and restores them after the update has been applied. If something does go haywire during the update process, you can use the backup that the Zune client made to restore your device to the way it was before your last update.
I hope this helps you and answers your questions. If you want some good insight and news on windows phone, feel free to check out my blog (link is in my signature below).
You can also get the Mango Beta 2 update. You can find the procedures here on the WP7 forum.

It's in beta, which means that it is not the finished product and there may be some bugs that haven't been fixed yet, but most of the important bugs have been fixed. If you want to play it safe, just wait until an (official) update for Mango is put out.

Hello all,
I found this today, for your information:
Where’s Mango? An update on timing
Gestern, 21. September 2011, 19:04:36 | Eric Hautala
Hi everybody. Given all the recent speculation around the timing of our Mango update, I wanted to bring you up to speed on what to expect next.
For months, we and dozens of our partner companies have been laying the groundwork for the Windows Phone 7.5 update—and making solid progress. As a result, we now expect to start rolling it out in the next week or two. At that time, we’ll also refresh the Where’s My Phone Update? table to reflect the worldwide rollout status.
This also seems like a good time to caution against installing unofficial or leaked copies of Windows Phone software.
During the official Windows Phone 7.5 update process, every Windows Phone will also receive software from the handset manufacturer. This matched and paired firmware has been painstakingly tuned so your phone—and apps—work with all the new features of Windows Phone 7.5. Since your phone requires the proper firmware to function as designed, my advice is simple: steer clear of bootleg updates and homebrew tools.
By the way, in case you missed it, we recently released new versions of both the Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac and the Zune software for PCs, which you’ll need to update your phone. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to install it. I think you’ll like the update-related improvements, which speed up the overall update process and give you more control over backups. A small favor: When you update to Zune 4.8, you’ll be asked to participate in improving the update process. Please consider doing so.
I know you’re eager to get your hands on the next release of Windows Phone—and everyone involved with Windows Phone is equally excited and eager to deliver it to you. Please hang on—we’re almost there.

I've tried but zune said it was error.....
I use "Back to the Future" Rom.
So this update doesn't seem to work. I don't even know why we'd need it since we have Mango. Or is there a difference between Official Mango and RTM Mango?
Update name : Mango ISV beta Bundle: Cleanup
I got the same problem, error code 800B010A
checkout the "Back to future" thread seems others got it resolved. Wondering whats different from that of the "Back to future" rom am using.
Kinda lost, still don't fully understand WP7. I bought the phone a few weeks ago with a Mango Beta installed on it. Someone brought it to my attention that when the legit Mango comes out that I won't be able to update to it. How can I get my phone to where I can update it when the official Mango release comes out? I have searched this but I'm not sure if reading on a different phone forum makes a difference. And people answer this question in different ways so it's a little confusing. Thanks guys!
First thing to do is check which version of the software you have on your phone, settings - about - more info.
If you have an OS version number greater than 7.0.7392 but less than 7720 you have a beta build of the OS and you wont be able to directly update the OS to Mango. This is because when the beta version of the OS was loaded it took a backup of your phone for you to return to when the official update was released. The backup is keyed to you device ID and means that a backup from someone else's phone wont work on yours.
However there are methods that will allow you to update to the RTM version of the OS at this link HERE or HERE but be warned that the update that is coming out in the next couple of weeks will have the extra drivers and tweaks that are specific to the DVP from Dell.
If you don't feel confident with that, you could try getting the person you bought it from to restore it back to the old version so that you can receive your update, or phoning dells support (Ouch!)
Looks like there may be an official way to install the final Mango without rolling back to NoDo first:

Bummer... wish I had known about this "Friends n Family" update last week before I restored Nodo. (Stupid rumors!!!) It's like a totally different phone. Here's hoping the update is coming soon.
That's awesome! That looked like such a pain that I was probably going to stay on the beta lol.
Awesome, I'll make a thread with precise steps so people may see it and finally get our DVP's fixed and updated!
