dead nook partly through rooting - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I tried rooting my Nook today following this procedure using unooter
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barnes_&_Noble_Nook_Color:_Full_Update_Guide
I got up to Gaining Root Access. After unplugging from the pc the nook won't power up.
After than the nook will not turn on. Hold the power button down, or all the buttons, nothing.
I plug the charger in and the green 'n' light on the usb cable is always green. Also when plugged into my PC and Mac.
If I plug into a Mac, it recognises it as an additional Ethernet device.
I tried restoring based on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
But no luck. Nook won't boot or startup.
Any thoughts??

In either of those processes, did you create a bootable ClockworkMod Recovery SD card? If not, grab this image, extract it, and write it to your SD card:
1GB CWM Card
It doesn't matter how big your card is, the 1GB image will work for our purposes. After you write the image, put these two files on the card (do not unzip):
update-nc-stock-1.2-keepcwm-signed.zip
repartition-boot-with-stock.zip
Hopefully you'll only need to use the first one. Put the card in the NC and attempt to power on--hopefully it will boot to the recovery menu on the card. Volume buttons are up/down, home is select, power is back.
First, in mounts and storage format system and data. When done, go back to the main menu (power button). This step may not be necessary, but won't hurt.
Now, install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard, and try update-nc-stock-1.2-keepcwm-signed.zip.
When it's done installing, hold the power button until the NC shuts off, remove the card, and power back on. If this works, the first boot will take a few minutes.
If it doesn't work, put the card back, boot to recovery again, install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard, and try the repartition boot zip.
Let us know how it goes.

Clockwork Recovery from reboot

Hey guys,
So i am trying to put into recovery mode off reboot because i had a rom install that didnt run properly. When i do the volume down method, it goes to the HBoot screen, and immediately starts calculating some stuff on the screen, it doesnt let me scroll up and down to any other options. Am i missing something?
calculating stuff? when you get into hboot you should be able to push the volup or voldown to scroll to recovery and then press power to select. otherwise pull your batt. and put it back in then just plug the phone into a wall outlet or usb. if your on CM it will boot CM up automatically. (sort of a glitch, but in your case it might save you instead haha)
the calculating is just the bootloader looking for an update.zip. a few seconds after it finishes you should be able scroll down to recovery.
Problem Solved
When i let the update.zip load. It said to let it update, or press power to reboot.
It kept fast booting.. I think thats what the problem was.
Solved the problem by starting without the SD card mounted. Then once it loaded I was able to arrow up and down. Popped SD back in and was able to properly recover.
Thanks

[Q] I meesed up

I was loading MAGLDR and during the installation something went wrong. I couldn't install anything and my HD2 does not pass the Tmobile welcome screen. Can you all help me or I need another phone?
Can you access bootloader by turning off the phone and holding the down volume button and power button at the same time when turning it back on?
Can you still get into magldr at all?
I would try to see if that works if not try going to bootloader and flashing back to most current stock file for your device.
If you can't get into Magldr:
Get back to stockrom first:
1) Format MicroSD with FAT32
2) Copy a NBH from stock rom, rename it to LEOIMG.NBH & copy it to the root of the memory card.
3) Insert memory card into phone, hold down Volume down button for 3 Seconds & press power button.

imagio flashing problem

my imagio died, it turns on it shows the HTC logo and then just vibrates without stoping.
i downloaded the ROM for it and trying to flash it from the memory card...
Flashing device using Storage Card
Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32.
You don't have to delete all the files, but it's safer if you do.
Download your preferred Rom from the Imagio ROM Development Forum.
You may need to Un- zip / rar the file if the chef compressed it.
Make sure, your devices battery status is NOT LESS than 50%.
Go to the ROM's Folder and rename the .nbh file to WHITIMG.nbh
This may have already been done for you.
Copy the WHITIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
Insert MicroSD Card into the phone
Enter the phone's bootloader. Instructions:
Power down the phone.
While holding down the VOLUME DOWN button, Power the phone back on.
Continue holding the VOLUME DOWN button until the TRI-Colored screen shows up. At that time, release the button
Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
Press the power button to flash the ROM to the device.
After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
Click to collapse
i put it in boot mode it starts flashing and its stuck on - loading... for a while, like an hour. is that normal, how long does it take to flash it or am i doing something wrong.
tnx

Alright everyone, I have an NC that I rooted quite awhile ago to great success. However, in my quest for updating to ics, I completely deleted everything. Buttons don't work, and for some reason I can't have it access my computer's hard drive because it won't turn on.
So, if anyone has any ideas for fixing it, it would be much appreciated. All I think I need is the original NC software (everything) and a way to put it on the hdd that I can't access. Thanks in advance.
I think you should be able to make (or re-use) a CWM card and use it to install a fresh rom. Unless it's totally borked, the NC should still boot first from the SD card.
I would, but the only problem is that I cannot even get the device to power on, the buttons don't work.
Edit: Here's the deal, I just need the damned thing to power up for me so I can mount the sdcard and restore it. But whatever utility makes the buttons work, is gone - they aren't just merely broken. So I can press the buttons and the kernel or whatever it is that interacts with the buttons will not understand what is going on because the utility is not there.
If anyone has a solution for either powering it on via usb (with the device off) or getting the buttons to work again, great.
Can anybody access their NC cwm for me and try to find whatever it is that I deleted? It has something to do with buttons or what not.
Are you holding the power button on for several seconds.. Until the screen flashes?

^ What he said. Sometimes I have to hold the power down for quite a while, or try it several times. This is usually after an SOD (it may help to have it charging too).
Yes and yes. I hold it for quite awhile. Still does nothing.
Have you tried holding down the n button along with the power button?
Hold both for 10 seconds. Release. Hold power button alone for 10 seconds. Sometimes it takes 2 or three cycles of holding down both buttons, then the power.button to get the nook reset.

Just because the screen does not flicker, and you can’t access the file system from your computer using a USB cable, does not mean that the device has not powered on. I can format the whole file system, and the power button will turn it on every time. For turning on the device, the power button is independent of the file system.
It sounds like you have just screwed up the files in the boot partition. I screwed up my device to this point more than a couple times. I had the same none flickering screen, and no file system access from a USB cable. The NC is programmed to boot from a SD card before internal storage, there is really no way that you could have screwed it up to the point that it won’t continue to do that. Below are the steps that I have always taken to get back to a working device,
*fully charge the device, this is very important, because the device might have been on this whole time, and you just could not see it
*Download the stock 1.2 update.zip found HERE, get the “update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip” file
*Now download the file to make a bootable CWM card found HERE
*Follow the directions in that post to make your bootable CWM card, then place the “update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip” file onto that card
*Put the bootable CWM card into your NC
*Hold the power button, and count to 3, then let go
*If after a count to 10, nothing has appeared on the screen, repeat the last step, you most likely just turn the device off.
*This time CWM should load up, select “wipe cache partition,” followed by “wipe cache partition”
*Now scroll down to and select “mounts and storage”
*Now scroll down to and select “format /boot”
*When that has completed, you will then select “install zip from sdcard”
*Then select “choose zip from sdcard,” and select the “update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip” file
*If you receive an error at the very start of the install process, you need to select “toggle script asserts,” to disable script asserts
*When that has completed, remove the card, select reboot the device, and boot the device no SD card in it
Your device should now boot just like stock. At this point you should be back to a completely stock NC.
Report back with any results, good or bad.
Is it necessary to format /system and /data as well if changing between firmware?
Can't try it just yet, but after I'm done traveling it will be top-priority.

[Q] Help reverting to stock

I wanted to revert my nook and start over because of my sd not working. Anyway, I was following "Restore Nook Color back to stock EASILY!" how to guide and I forgot to add the zip file to the Bootable Clockwork SD image. The guide said "add the zip file to the computer as well". For some reason I didn't interpret that as saying put in on the sd card.
I am now stuck where I cannot turn the nook off. It just has the following choices:
repoot
apply update
wipe data
wipe cache
etc...
How do I shut down the nook?
Also, the guide mentions to add NC 1.0.1 zip file to the card. Do I do that after I reboot the clockwork image. Any help would be appreciated.
It sounds like you're at the stock recovery screen. If you simply hold down the power button (could be at least 20 seconds) it should turn off.
