To make the process very simple, try this method.
Just follow this steps for an error free downgrade.
1. Download the rom here.
2. Rename it to PD15IMG.zip
2. Place it on the root of your sd card.
3. Switch On your phone while holding the Power button & the down volume button.
4. The hboot menu will update your phone (do according to the hboot instructions).
The original bootloader is 0.86.0000
Now reboot & enjoy your update......This is the original T-mobile 2.2.1 version....so no worries.....

Visionary root; red triangle when attempting recovery

Hello all, newer android user here. I used VISIONary to perm root the device and all superuser permissions are working fine. But when I try to go in recovery mode a red triangle error with an exclamation point comes up. Did some searching and still no luck.

Sounds like you still have the stock recovery installed. Go into your hboot mend (power button and down on the volume rocker) and make sure that you have s-off, then download Rom manager from the market and flash clockwork recovery.

Thanks for the response. S is on - what do I do to get it off? The reason I used visionary is because I have no access to a pc - just a macbook.
Also, I have already downloaded clockwork and flashed
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Flash the Recovery ROM again. Your first attempt must have failed. The red triangle -is- the stock recovery (which only shows that screen, nothing more).
couldnt say it better, Would recommend using computer to go through process just to understand the details of rooting. Very helpful,

You do not need a PC to root you phone. IIRC Android does have an SDK for apple computers
any who you can turn s=off via a script. The Unlockr has a kick @$$ walk through for doing it. The Unlockr
Basically you download This file
and
extract the folder from with in the .zip
then you store that folder on the root of the SD card
Download "terminal emulator" from the market
then from within the Term. Emul
$ su
# cd/sdcard/root
# sh root.sh
Click to collapse
And it will push/edit the files needed for "s=off" on your phone
after you've done that boot into BootLoader (how down the volume down button and power button when you turn on the device) make sure at the top it says s=off.
after you do that Flash the Clockwork ROM Recovery Image.
Instructions worked great.
Except now I have flashed iced glacier on - and every time I try to use the internet, the page fully loads then immediately closes and returns to home screen. Mini Opera works fine though.. ?

Can i install the new gingerbread leaked rom without being rooted??

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059247
That's the link to the thread to the leaked rom. I was wondering if I have to be rooted to install and if not how do I install it?? Many thanks.
You have to be rooted because you have to be able to get into recovery to wipe everything before flashing, none of which is possible without root. although in all the root guides it states that it's difficult blah blah blah it really isn't. I rooted with gfree and visionary.
download gfree and visionary
temproot using visionary
unzip the gfree files (androzip) to data/local/ (you must have a root explorer)
after you've done that go into terminal emulator (free from market)
type su to gain superuser permissions
Type "cd data/local/"
then hit enter and type: "chmod 777 gfree"
Then after that type in "./gfree -f"
All of which you leave out quotation marks then reboot. after that go to visionary and check set system R/W and hit "attempt permroot now"
This is essentially the stickied thread in the development section just without the warning signs everywhere although you MUST be careful and if you don't understand any of it feel free to ask a question. Welcome to the forums by the way
Basic Disclaimer: I'm in no way responsible for you getting fired because your phone crapped out and your alarm didn't go off or you are now a proud owner of a brick due to not following my directions.
You need to get rooted
S-off your phone.
Root your phone.
And then get your phone engnieering bootloader (0.85.2007)---strongly recommended.
Isn't this a 2.2 mysense(froyo) rom? So basically is stock. Why wouldn't it be able to be flashed through the stock 2.2 mysense(froyo) recovery? Just wondering.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Because the one that's being distributed by faux has root and well honestly I don't know about the leak...you could try naming it Update.zip and putting on root of sdcard then booting into stock recovery. If that doesn't work keep it named what it was when downloaded then try. But I must ask why don't you just root?

You do not need to have s-off. Look in the dev section and there is a thread with a link to the Rom to flash through hboot.
You will only need to rename the file and copy it to the root of your SD card. Reboot your phone into hboot. Profit.
Hope that helps.

On the unrevoked site under the EVO guide they link you to the download. There are plenty of guides on this forum so I am not going to do the work for you. This is why you should do the research before attempting to brick your 500 dollar phone.

If you can't get into the bootloader, you can't get into recovery which is where you need to flash the s-on tool. Try running the RUU in exe form from your computer. If it works, you will need to reflash recovery, flash the s-on tool, then run the RUU again.

Put these files in the root of your SD card.
Amon RA and S-on tool
When you get into Hboot it should find this PC36IMG.zip and ask to run it. Run it. This will install Amon RA recovery onto your phone.
Then turn the phone off and reboot holding vol-down and power. Select recovery.
In recovery select "flash zip from sd" then select unrevoked-forever-son.zip
At this point find someway to get Pc access to your sd card again. You can do this from Amon RA by selecting USB mount (i forget the exact wording, sorry).
Delete the PC36IMG.zip and put this one on there instead. Go back to Hboot and let the PC36IMG run.
You should now be running stock again. Unrooted.
This thread might be of some help as well.

That's the correct one. Just try running it again, and again, and again if you have to. If it still won't work, you can try another one, but try the newest one first. You can also try taking it to Sprint and just play dumb. They may replace it for you.

Also make sure you have the correct drivers. Install HTC Sync then uninstall it, then try again. After some research, it seems the screen you're seeing is from a bad RUU flash, so completing the RUU should solve your problems.

I am not sure is it MS Windows issue, if yes, is there any Linux or MAC tool to allow me log in to my ROM and reset or copy from original one?

Furthermore more than ten times HTC Sync driver removed and re-installed.. nothing working properly..
I'm just wondering best way to re partitioning original ROM?
thanks for any help
Minor suggestion: try running the RUU as administrator by right clicking > Run As Addministrator.
Had the same problem. When you start to run the ruu are the ruu and your phone the same file. For example right before you start to run the ruu, what does that screen show
Jab2k, you might have a bad copy of the ruu. It locks you in ruu mode like that when you have an incomplete flash but once you get a good one it will be back to normal.
If redownloading the 3.70 ruu doesnt fix it you will need to flash it manually using fastboot to see where it is going wrong

Can we also include the way to get back? It seems that is what most people are concerned about in addition how to get there in the first place. Thanks.

I'm all for this thread, but I do believe that OP needs to be a bit more informative.
For a start include details on checking which hboot you have installed. This question has all ready been asked a lot.
A video tutorial. I never use them but people do seem to like them.
There also seems to be a lot of people worried about flashing the DZ hboot then having to return to there phone for warranty purposes. Its irrelevant which hboot you are using whilst rooted. You are still going to need to return to the stock hboot. A guide for this exists here.
Also maybe ask RMK if you can copy and post this instructions in to the first post. Currently this thread does not really contain any Dev related info and might be closed.
And maybe include instructions for people that don't use adb

guys for ppl who donot want to use ADB. or cannot understand how to make it work ..... the process is simple... follow these steps and complement them with rmk guide .....
before you start make sure you have enough battery and do a Nandroid backup before hand.
1. download the PC10img.zip from rmk guide.
2. connect your phone as disk drive with your pc. and copy the pc10img.zip into root folder of your SDcard....
3. check the MD5sum of pc10img.zip on your SD card and compare it with the one provided in rmks guide. (you can either use a pc based software to check md5sum.... many free ones out there.... or use some software like "Man D5" its md5sum generator free on android market)
4. if the MD5sums match than just simply reboot into bootloader (power off the phone than turn it back on while holding the power and volume down button)
5. when it asks you whether you wanna install pc10img. select yes by pressing the volume button.(it will tell you whether to press volume up or down)
6. Now pc10img will install and it will reboot in the process once so dont do anything until second reboot.
7.after second reboot when your phone is stuck at HTC screen for some time. take out the battery and put it back in and go back into bootloader.
7.5 Put sdcard in another phone or memory card reader and delete/move/rename PC10IMG.zip.
(if you have no other phone or no other media to read the SDcard to delete the pc10img.zip file than whenever you restart bootloader it will scan sdcard and it will ask you if you wanna install pc10img.zip file volume down to install and volume up to ignore i think..... so you have to press volume up to ignore it and than get into recovery as given in step 8. than later you can delete the zip from sdcard via either recovery or when your nandroid is restored )
8. this time go into recovery. it will give you some errors like..... this not accessible and that not accessible.
9. Just do a full wipe, than wipe cache , than wipe dalvik cache from the advanced menu.
10. At this point you could simply just do a nandroid restore. but a friend of mine had some force closes after nandroid restore at this point. so for that i would suggest that you after completing wipes..... take out the battery and than put it back in and again go into bootloader than into recovery.
11. this time you shouldnt get any errors of "cannot mount this or that"
12. At this point do a nandroid restore and you will be back to your original state but with a DZ hboot .....
(if for some reason your again getting cannot mount or access cache at point 11.... than again wipe cache and it should fix it.....
hope it helps anyone who is having problems adb .....

There's also a way to check if you actually accomplished this, because nothing noticeably changes. Someone in the irc channel showed me how to check via ADB how much /system and /data you have after the process.

simpler way is to download "quick system info pro" from market... it shows size and used spaces of all internal partitions and external partitions
you can also verify in titanium backups main menu at the bottom
Easiest way to check is to go into the bootlaloder and see what it says.

Unrooting

Noob question, I rooted my phone through theunlockr.com (don't ask why >.<) then I used the gfree method to gain perm root. I want to unrooted my phone (s=on) so I can redo the root using a method from xda. Also so I can easily go back to stock if HTC decides to release an official ics for us

The method you saw on TheUnlockr is the same that is posted here. So unrooting so you can re-root is a void point.
And if you need to unroot just

Procedure to revert
1. Rename the part7backup file that you already have to something just so you know that it is the original backup.
2. Open up terminal emulator or adb shell and type "su" + enter to get root privileges.
3. Type "cd /data/local" and hit enter.
4. Now type "./gfree -f" + enter to run gfree again. It will disable wp on the emmc and remove the brq filter in the kernel. (as well as make another backup, which you can delete if you wish)
5. Now run the "dd if=/where/your/part7backup-numbers.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7" and it should show the output:
xxxx bytes in
xxxxbytes out
xxxxxxxxxx copied in blah blah blah
6. Run "sync" and then reboot. (I didn't do this and it worked fine but it won't hurt either. )
If you have the engineering hboot 0.85.2007 installed you will still be showing s=off when you do the above revert steps. Follow these steps to reflash the stock hboot and turn s=on:
Download this file and unzip it to /sdcard on your device.
unroot.rar

Terminal Emulator Method
1. Open up terminal editor on your device.(I prefer this method b/c you can see the output.)
a. Type "su" + enter to gain root privileges.
b. Type "cd /sdcard/unroot" + enter.
c. Type "sh unroot.sh" + enter.
d. Follow the onscreen prompts.
File Explorer Method
2. Open root explorer, sufbs, or some other file browser with root access.
a. Navigate to /sdcard/unroot.
b. Click on unroot.sh and allow it to run. Some file browsers ask permission before they execute scripts.
c. Wait 18 to 20 seconds and reboot your phone into the bootloader to check if S=on.
You now have S=ON again.

Yea.... you're premarooted forever.
You can turn back S-ON though, if that's what you're looking for, by running gfree with correct switches. But for what - I don't get it.

Like I said in my op, in case HTC decides to release an official ics update, I might want to try it. idk, haha. I just get bored easily and like to have a different os. I've flashed cm7 with ics theme, virtuous doubleshot, and now I'm on official miui. Excited for feb's official releads of ics tho, possibly that will do.. I mean roms DO have better battery life than factory os

You can flash official OS without unrooting or S-OFF. You don't need any prerequisites for that.
On the contrary, if you want to keep your phone rootable - it's highly recommended to keep it S-OFF, no matter what you flash.
Riiight, download the official zip and flash through clockwork.. Touché sir, well played

Nope you've got it wrong. the any official ROM cannot be flashed though CWRI. It needs to be flashed via the hBoot screen.
And as Jack mentioned i would i highly suggest just keeping it s-off, if T-Mobile or HTC releases a ICS ROM for this device our awesome devs will make sure it's a root baked OS that is flash-able. They've done it with every other official OS that's been released.
