That was the same link we've been discussing for a bit isn't it? There is no specific announcement there its the same "we'll think about it."

it is going to happen the nexus one can run it. Our phone is much more powerful that the the nexus S is very similar. They pulled back froyo. All signs point to us getting it but it will most likely take 2 months for binaries to be released and a build to be compiled. And I don't want to hear the nah sayers going on and on that you can't trust samsung blah blah blah... Even noob said we are getting it and I know he is on this inside track.

This isnt 3.0 it is a build upgrade from 2.1 a totally new build takes about 6months and upgrade is about 2 months.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
We will probably get it around the time that 3.0 comes out or 3.1 usually how it works. 2.3 comes out now..sprint releases 2.2 to epics... at least we get updates faster than most US carriers do. Look at evo. Sprint plz OTA 2.2 already.

We are actually getting 2.2.1, not 2.2...2.2.1 came out at the end of september, and Galaxy S would be the first to have it...Motorola is working on 2.2.1 as well...

Droid already has 2.2.1 - boss man got it last thursday OTA i think. He isn't rooted.
Droid X went live on the 10th as well.
All in all google is going to greater lengths to help push out the updates faster. Its one of the biggest gripes with android. Look to the gingerbread update to change things. After gingerbread android os will be much more uniform.

I expect things to change greatly once 3.0 comes out..this is when release cycles for android will slow down thus giving manufacturers more leeway..
Agreed. I think they are planning on phazing out UI overlays as well when 3.0 comes out. No more motoblur, sense, tw, etc. For the tech geek we like it because we port things over from other platforms. But the Ios boobs they just want something shiny and homoginized, and that's probably the demographing android wants to really take on

Utter misinformation.
As of today, Samsung's U.S. Galaxy S support site on Twitter still denies that there has been any such announcement.
@JoeBatson no official statement about updating US Galaxy S line to 2.3 has been made & we aren't prepared to discuss this at this time.

I think we will see Gingerbread in the form of a flashable rom before we see an official release, if we even see one. I hope we do.

Ugh, I really want this phone or the Prime but I am getting fed up with Sprint's service in my area.
I am really intrigued by the sg2. However, I'm scared about the lack of software updates. Isn't the Epic still on Froyo or did they finally update?

Gingerbread has had about 8 leaks for the Epic.
But it's still not official.
I'm not worried about updates if AOSP is going to support it.
I hear you, but the developers will most likely be a key factor. Aosp runs great, but is too bland foyer my taste...even with a third party launcher.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I think given the rumors of a 4.5 inch screen and 720p resolution, I'd rather wait for news of the Nexus Prime.
If for some reason it doesn't come out on Sprint right away, the SG2 would also be a worthy upgrade.

Hopefully your right but seeing the support the epic gets in comparison to the other galaxy s phones I would wait and see myself. The one thing I hated about my epic was touchwiz and there aren't any alternative roms that have it taken out. But I do have to say the gsll looks pretty awesome.

Srf 1.2 is a Froyo rom with the option of no touchwiz. The best rom on epic IMO.

I wish they'd make TW an OPTION to download via the samsung market..
that way they could smash out the update and not corrupt the Android version 4 feel and performance...
Well... That looks sweet.. Anyone can just flash plain ICS when custom roms arrive, if TW is not liked.
But the spen app looks cool...

Wasn't this meant to be released today with angry birds as per their own videos? looks like another delay.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
The dates in the video cover quite a broad time range...
Let's wait another month or two
Those S-pen app do look pretty cool. To each their own of course - I really don't mind TouchWiz, the only thing I feel it ruins from ICS is the look of the settings menu (which is like, whatever, it's a settings menu). But the S-pen apps and integration were and are a big selling point for the Note for me. I can't tell you how many times a day I make use of S-memo lite. As long as JKay keeps doing his thing, I'm totally fine with Samsung's stock version of ICS.
Also note that the Angry Birds Space offer (to 'celebrate the launch of the Premium Suite') runs from '22nd March - 21st June'. So I'd say we're looking at any time within that frame for a proper release.
They better release the source along with it to compensate the delay.... Want some stable cm9 and miui action. Was hoping i can see.those in q2 with ics releasing in q1 x(
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
With the spen app improvement, it is worth waiting I guess ;-)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
Hoping there is a leak soon.
Looks Awesome.
Just the fact that their apps can do so much more is enough, but added ICS and Angry Birds would be the deal maker.
The thing I hate most about TE is the lack of low dpi support. 320 is way too big for our screens.
If Samsung could make TW dpi-independent then I would like it much better.
Right now I'm so much loving ICS tablet mode..
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
I'm honestly more interested in formula match than most of the ICS improvements. It's only the cobbling together of functionality I've seen in deTeXify and wolframalpha, but I like it.
Hope this worth the wait
Wow, this looks awesome.

In the end it mentions that the "update schedule varies with country/carrier"
So its not a global launch, but region wise one just like 2.3.6 update.
So who r the lucky ones to get it first ???

I just hope that a more stable leak will be there by the end of this month. I can't see why they can't release ICS first without these premium upgrade and then add them later.
How many months will it take since the release of ICS, 5,6months? That's way too much. I can't see why it takes so long...
This thread will be a discussion about the Future Plans of the S3.
This will help me know better to know what you would like.
What would you like in the future ROM's.
Post below.
I'm interested in a Toucwiz/ASOP lean hybrid. I'm really digging the Touchwiz but I'd love it cleaned up, optimized etc.
Definitely looking forward to new ROMs and kernels!!

This is what I'm going for.
Literally everything TouchWiz removed besides the vital processors.
27th it's on.
AOKP with ability to install and use Samsung apps.
... It would take a lot of work but I would throw $50 toward a dev who could pull it off
Oh yeah, and tablet mode.

I believe that Samsung apps could eventually be used if someone was able to fork the framework somehow. Im not saying its an easy thing but it sure its possible.

yeah. i just want vanilla ice cream sandwich. that's it. and STILL retain Wi-Fi Calling capabilities. don't care for touchwiz. thanks for giving us great hardware, Sammy. but howza bout you just let google handle the software. no need to try and improve it.
and i also want these phones with frickin' laser beams attached.
Id be fine with touchwiz stripped of all bloatware, leaving sammy tweaks (smartstay etc.) and wifi calling, but give us the CM7/tmo theme engine, touchwiz is fugly. The single most important thing I want, and its a safety thing because I drive for work, volume rocker track skip.

Yes, this is the first phone that I've been pleased with performance out of the box, and I even, dare I say it, LIKE TOUCHWIZ! I did root it, but only to use adfree, lol, that's the silliest reason I've ever rooted a phone for, but Samsungs are so easy to return to stock & T mobile never checks the binary flash counyso I'm not worried. I hate ads that are in apps! When we do get an AOSP rom ill flash then, but as crazy as it sounds, it better be as fast as touchwiz or ill be going back to stock, haha. Samsung hit the nail on the head with this one, and touchwiz has alot of convenient features in it. Imagine if they would've rolled it out with vanilla android, and the added motion control, and other Samsung apps that are pretty cool? If samsung makes this year's nexus, it's gonna be off the hook with hardware like this!
Worked like a charm.
I picked up my Verizon pre-order today and am super happy with it. It's a great upgrade over my old Epic 4G (and the bump from wimax to lte speeds is worth the extra monthly cost of the carrier switch)
I've always purchased the galaxy series year after year, and this time Samsung has delivered with stock performance! Though I also like the new touchwiz, it's more "complete" than other launchers
