I am planning to buy a galaxy tab 10.1. But i am a little bit confused here. Some of my friend told me that Untill ICS is released dont buy a Android Tab because HC will not get much apps and all developers are waiting for ICS.
Is ICS worth waiting for??
or
i should grab one as soon as i can?? will Samsung give an upgrade to ICS??
---I am sure a noob in android as i havent used any android devices before.----
There's a good chance Samsung will update the Tab to ICS but there's no way of being sure.
It's a headline device, it would be bad press to leave it stuck on an older version of Android.
The Tab 10.1 is a great tablet, wonderful hardware but depending on what your needs are, it might be worth waiting for the 7.7 which will have a better screen and better CPU.
I just got the Galaxy Tab and I am completely satisfied with it. I feel ICS will come when it's ready.

yup, also hoping that the tab will be upgradable to ICS
We really don't know much about ics yet. As for apps it will still be the same until devs start developing more for tablets.

It will have some effect on app availability.
ICS combines Gingerbread and Honeycomb into a single OS, so apps that work on phones will work on tablets.
The other thing it seems set to spark is the leap into phones with WXGA screens (ie the same res as the Tab), which means that apps designed to run natively on those phones will work fine on tablets - it really is a matter of tablets being over-sized phones.

I dont think ICS will ever come to tab 10.1. Big companies behave badly towards their customers, and Samsung is a big, very big player now. People still wait for Samsung to release a Gingerbread update to their Gtab 7 around the world. Some have received it and some installed themselves. One of their froyo updates had wifi issues and they havent even bother to fix it. Samsung releases too many devices within a short period of time. Companies with lesser amount of models try to give their best to the customers. Samsung will go on releasing new Tab models and forget the older ones. I will be surprised if the contrary happens.
There's a couple of awesome devs in this forum that will make sure we get ICS regardless of Samsung intentions.

I too think Samsung will never release ICS for this device... Tablet technology goes forward so fast that Tab 10.1 will be obsolete in a few months... and that is very unfortunate.
You are forgetting one thing, Google announced at IO that they made a agreement with most large manufacturers (including Samsung) to provide updates to the latest Android version at least for 18 months after device launch . So Samsung must update the GT10.1 to ICS at some point.
That scheme was mooted but hasn't been implemented in any way.
There are no guarantees of receiving support for a device for a particular length of time.
Apps are apps...they can be tweaked to work with any version of Android post 2.2, really. We don't know that ICS is going to be the holy grail or anything.
I think the same rule applies here that would to any gadget: if you want/need one now then go get one. There will always be something newer/shinier/better released in a few months that will make you more appealing to the opposite sex and make your life utterly complete. Worrying that you don't have the absolute latest toy is missing the point of using the things entirely.

But, if an app is developed for say 4inch phones, it will look distorted or pixelated no matter what os your running.

get the tablet. ICS will be out before the next Samsung tablet. The galaxy tab 7.7 is not going to be sold in the united states.
thanx for help buddies. I have decided to buy a GTab10.1 .
google has been organizing developer days to get android developers hyped up and taught about the features of honeycomb as well as having a tablet/phone single app and having features be backwards/fowards compatible.
it's surprisingly not that hard to update an app to look reasonable on a tablet
ICS will be open-source. Enough said.

Hopefully the following article is misinformed (I do also have a Tab)
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/03/honeycomb-to-require-dual-core-processor-initially-tablet-only/
Otherwise we'll have to wait for devs to port Honeycomb to our tabs. Which may very well not happen since few of them have SGTs (and given the news flow they may very well pass it...) plus our hardware may be too limited (Underpowered processor, too small screen resolution) and we may very well want to pass on honeycomb too (If it's only for tabs and not for phones, forget about phone functionalities...)
Anyway let's just hope this is not true (Would hate to have to dump my tab only after 3 months of use...)
It's not like SGT becomes somehow inferior just because there's a new version of Android. It is a great device as it is.
All the more reason for me to justify picking up a Tab 2 when it is released
I love my tab as it is, and I see that there are already improvements to be made through updates to FroYo, so I am not really worried because I am satisfied even with my stock tab now.
Same here - I bought an unactivated vzw tab, and it just does everything I need. If there's a Tab 2 with Honeycomb, I'll look at it, but with my other android devices, the dev community seems to produce better functionality than the vendors do, and I can hopefully skip all the vendor-installed crap with a clean image when that time arrives.
R.I.P.
These are really bad news for us owners.
Maybe I'll switch to iOS devices then. They're running so much smoother compared to android 2.X devices...
We won't see how good the tab with its powervr 540 graphics would perform with proper hardwareacceleration honeycomb will provide.
And that, ladies and gentlemen is why we're all here on XDA......
The way things are looking, unless Google is planning on HC being a tablet only OS, there will be a basic HC OS for phones and an extra feature set that's unlocked for tablets with dual core procs and 1280 X 720 screens. What may happen is that the 7" tablet will essentially be an oversized phone with XDA hacking it so you can use the tablet features on the 7" tablets.
As a Galaxy Tab owner I'm not really that butthurt by this because I can envision having a camera phone and 7" tablet as mobile devices and a wifi only 12" tablet for home use. If the HC tablet features truly require a larger screen, then I'm content with a 7" tablet that more of a mobile device.
I am a big fan of the 16:9 screen dimension. Better for movies and better for mutli-pane implementation.
The worry I have is this will just cut the spread of SGT buyers. If we end up with a device not very popular and with a small customer/devs base you can forget about any dream of good custom roms or app developments
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
HTC is rumored to be releasing a 7" tablet, and the SGT has sold millions in a short amount of time. Unlike the iPhone, there was no carrier based reason to purchase the SGT over the iPad, but people did, in large part due to the form factor. I suspect that the 7" tab will not go away.
LOL, Any body want to sell their antiquated Galaxy Tab?
I've been looking to get one on AT&T or T-Mo... a trade for a mint 16GB iPhone4 perhaps???
FUD
There are no mins for Gingerbread, and IF there are any for Honeycomb, the community devs will pull apart what is a good update for the GTab and cook it up.
Honestly if you are worried, start a fund to get a tab into more dev hands...
lets not forget these are claims and have not been officialy confirmed by Google themselves yet... we still have hope. i don't think Samsung will just abandon us like this. they will probably be expecting to release their next sucessor to the tab in september. honeycomb will come out before then, and hopefully the update will be pushed out to us. the gtab was made in mind to be upgradable to Honeycomb. much like the HD2 was made to be upgradable to WP7... but that never happened.
only time will tell if we get the update.

Eh...it's only bad news if you don't like your Tab the way it is now. So it's not bad news for me, it's just more news.
What is bad is how all of a sudden there are so many deals for people to get these Galaxy Tabs. That had dramaticly reduced the cost. My guess that are getting rid of invintory. And it seems this is going on before CES. Just my view
What deals? That $100 Verizon price drop? Good luck finding a Verizon store that will sell one for $500 no-contract, it's a rumor and not official, at least not yet.
The T-Mobile $349 on a 2-year? That's not a price reduction, it's a little lubrication for the contract buttsecks. The Best Buy and Amazon sales? Short term holiday traffic generators. The UK/Euro price drops? Those were adjustments to bring the device in line with US pricing once the North American Tabs were released.
Lets not forget economy of scale, the more they make and sell, the cheaper each individual unit becomes to produce, and they can (and often do) lower prices over the life of a product to reflect this.
As for Honeycomb, Asus just announced a 7" Honeycomb tablet with 1024x600 resolution, so that part of the specs rumor is busted right away.
And any way you slice it, we're looking at March at the very least for a Honeycomb tablet explosion*. That's six months after the Tab launched. That's six months of awesome Tab usage before you should start to get the urge to replace it.
The alternative would have been to do without for six months. Life is too short for holding out for the next best thing...buying the best thing you can now is almost always a better bet.
*The Motorola tablet may launch before then, but frankly, I don't give a DAMN about the Motorola tablet, because it's a 10" device and I don't want one of those.

I also believe that one of the announced Asus tablets with Honeycomb also has a 1Ghz snapdragon so that busts the Dual Core requirement too.
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2011/010411-galaxy-tab-wont-get-honeycomb.html
"single-core Android tablets like Samsung's Galaxy Tab won't meet the minimum requirements for Honeycomb, Google's tablet-optimized operating system version, according to a manufacturer.
Bobby Cha, managing director of Korean consumer electronics firm Enspert, told PCMag that Honeycomb will require a dual-core Cortex A9 processor to run properly. So far, the only chipset to include this processor is Nvidia's Tegra 2, due to appear in many Android tablets at the Consumer Electronics Show this week.
Cha said that a minimum screen resolution of 1280-by-720 may also be necessary, but he noted that Honeycomb-based tablets will come with seven-inch screens and larger.
Samsung's Galaxy Tab has a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor and a 1024-by-600 resolution display. The company has previously suggested that the Galaxy Tab would update no further than the smartphone-focused Android 2.3 ("Gingerbread"), but Cha's comments appear to seal the Tab's fate as a rapidly aging product."
Oh god...not another thread about this crap!
So what...go return your TAB then...stop being a baby about it!
Your TAB said 2.2....consider yourself lucky if you get 2.3 on it let alone 3.0!
By the time 3.0 is out and about...there will be lots of nice tablets to buy!
If not...im sure CM will be ported to single core phones and tabs...boo hoo, too bad so sad!

Are you amazed at the rate of consumer electronics?
Technology is advancing faster and faster due to the demand and hype! This is fact!
Also...Samsung, nor XDA, nor Google promised any of us 2.3 or 3.0 for the current Samsung Galaxy Tab...that is a fact!

The false inferences from off the cuff commentary by people not directly involved in development of the OS should not be taken as factual information.
Actually Samsung has confirmed that they will release 2.3 for the Tab and Galaxy S devices. But it remains to be seen when that'll happen.

A more better homescreen thing(like instead of all 9 homescreens being left to right make them go up and down as well
default browser to take full use of the bigger screen...and word wrap of course
And would love to see a select all files to drag and drop them all at once.
Just downloaded the SDK and had a good play.
It's actually incredibly impressive.
Wasn't sure how incremental of an upgrade, but it looks like it's really taking on some great feedback and ways to improve the flow of things.
Certainly includes a fair few of the utilities we all install as standard.
Sure it'll make it (eventually) to the Tab.
Um incorrect there are no hard minimimums on Android 3.0 as tweetd by their own dev team, this is totally false.
[Moderators please delete this stupid thread.]
I love my Tab the way it is. I'd rather wait for an XDA dev created mod than expect Samsung or Google to reward us with a simple update after we made 2010 a banner year for them.

so awesome when people cut and paste crap.
I myself love my gtab..barring some lockups and force closes....I use it daily as my workout device...i've gotten some odd looks but it's funny to see how many people actually try and nonchalantly glance over to watch the movie I have playing.
Unfortunately it will be short lived love affair i think...as the new G-slate is on the horizon and is superior in all ways but possibly the glass technology...i've been waiting for the tegra 2 processors ever since nvidia did their SOC demo a few years back.
all accounts i'll be taking off march 23'rd and heading to Tmo with my credit card in hand
If I can get honeycomb running fine on my tab at some point then I'm happy to keep using the same device, who knows maybe we'll get some tweaked honeycomb roms that are super smooth and amazing. I love my tab as it is though but I won't be able to justify buying a new tablet until my wife goes back to work after nursing school next year....so yea this device was my last hooray and I'll be squeezing as much out of it as I can.
Just saw this on Engadget (via Pulse, hence the URL) and thought people might enjoy the read.
The Tab 2 seems to be following in the footsteps of the Xoom and LG Slate with the screen size. The article mentions no news or rumors of the destiny for our beloved Tabs but maybe the Samsung event will give us the good (or bad) news about the Honeycomb update.
I'm sure we'll 3.0 love as soon a system dump is available, but it'd still be nice of Samsung to give an official update seeing as this is the Tab which (pretty much) started the Android Tablet evolution.

i am very happy with my 7" tab. not too big not too small just perfect, the 10.1" will be a bit to big, but i do agree that we should get the 3.0 upgrade soon.....
Ok one of the main reasons I bought my tab (other than how amazing cool it is) is due to the 7" screen. I dont want a huge 10" screen!. I have a 32" bravia for a pc monitor and a 10.1" netbook, I got the tab for portability! I wish they would leave it at 7"
I sure hope they don't increase the screen size, that is one of the great differentiating factors between the Tab and the iPad. I loved my iPad but it was too big to carry easily. All of the new Honeycomb announced tablet's have the bigger screen and I was counting on Samsung sticking with the smaller form factor. Although the rumors of Apple considering a 7" iPad are interesting and would tempt me to back. The biggest disappointment with the Tab is the sluggishness I get and no Android browser I've tried is as smooth and responsive as Safari on the iPad.
I have reliable information saying this will be some sort of official google tablet(maybe for the european market?). The hardware will also blow everyones minds somehow. Don't know any details about that, but the competition will supposedly be playing catchup for quite some while before they get there. I guess it will be some fancy new screen at least. I'm looking forward to sunday as samsung will tell us everything:-D
and yes, it will be running honeycomb.

Why would people port it to a phone? 3.0 is a tablet only firmware. 2.4 is the mix of Gingerbread and Honeycomb for phones.
And you jumped ship because of their development? A 3.0 port of the SDK? I'd rather keep this and wait for a proper port tbh.

WHo said anything about porting this to a phone? Well since the nook is an omap it shares a lot of similarities with droidx, and since motorolla dosnt have all this proprietary bs that they dont release code for. So when trying to port a nexus s to galaxy s, one would think it would be simple. So when you guys get that dump i seriously doubt it will ported. It's just my opinion. That would be samsungs fault cause a lot of their drivers are proprietary since they make the hardware. So if they don't release code then code will have to be reversed engineered and that takes time...lots of it. Well you can see where i'm going with this. Samsung could of released info today about how the new tab and how they are going to upgrade their other one that was released 6 months ago but they didn't and they don't give a fuk, seriously.
] About jumping ship? I was just saying that if you want upgrades in os's , well , samsung hasn't shown that they give a rats ass. I learned the hard way just like you guys will. I happen to choose the nook because of the hardware and how easily it is to port. Unlike samsung again with their proprietary drivers and what not. This isn't a nook vs tab debate. I think the galaxy tab is beautiful hardware is sexy but the buck stop there. Samsung needs to show us that they care and i just don't have that faith. So good luck with the dump. Hope that works out.

I misunderstood your phone comment, I thought you meant porting Honeycomb to the Nexus/Galaxy S, not Nexus to Galaxy
I haven't looked into the Nook myself so I'm unfamiliar with the specs/features of it and the work developers has done to it is shocking and amazing.
I agree wwith the comment about Samsung being *****es with their upgrades. But I personally think that with the developers we have, I think we *might* be able to pull off something spectacular with this incredible device.
Most of us jumped into it buying the Tab knowing of Samsungs backgroynd but that's the risk everyone takes with devices, right? I came from a Desire and since FroYo, we've been screwed by HTC. No Sense UI 2.0 eventhough ports of the Desire HD & Z have proven it could cope. All manufacturers do it in their own way.
*Hopefully* Samsung will change their ways.

Seems to be a lot of misunderstanding in this thread
Samsung always said there would be a 7" AND a 10" form factor... They are just rolling out the 10" with the latest hardware and Software (HC). Nothing surprising here. I ma not sure you can call that a GT2... It's just the 10" GT
Hopefully down the road they will update the 7" as well. nd I think it's a good thing they don't do it immediately !! I'd be pissed if my GT is immediately outdated...
I'm taking my Tab back and waiting out the release of the Xoom and Tab 2. I think right now was the wrong time to buy.
I for one do not think I am going to buy a new Galaxy Tab just for a few extra inches. I mean come on samsung it is the same galaxy tab just a small bit bigger...and also weren't they the ones that first made a speech about how 7" tablets are more protable then 10"....
And on that note, If for some reason Honeycomb didn't get put on my 7" I would prob buy another tablet...but not this one.

There has no been official word from Samsung either way. From the dev work here it is certainly capable of running Honeycomb.

But, judging from the trend of Samsung it seems 2.2 may just be it and business wise they feel that will inspire you to spend more money on buying the new Tab or S2 to get the latest OS. But, that's just my opinion.

Well, I got the galaxy tab thinking it would at least get gingerbread.
As for Honeycomb, I think it should run OK. Even if the whole OS doesn't run, I'm sure we will at least get apks for the tablet optimised apps like gmail.
But hey, there's a new HTC 7" tablet announced with slightly better specs and it's said to get honeycomb. HTC is popular, I'm sure we can get a port from them.

their strategy might just work after a fashion...i might spend more money on a new tablet-it will just be a tablet from a manufacturer who is more committed to providing updates to existing customers. ie not samsung.

I reckon not...
Chances are I would say no, if they give us honeycomb, why would we go out and buy their new tab?

The new Tab is a 10.1" device, which makes it a completely different animal in my opinion.
Regards,
Dave
IMHO Samsung dont seem to really care about it's exsisting customers only the new ones.
ive got an S and Tab and although i like both devices the lack of support winds me up, they constantly release new hardware with the latest software and seem reluctant to support what is in fact still "new" devices.
I dont buy into "you bought they device with froyo, so that's what youve got"
I expect high end hardware to be fully supported it's an insult they release a new device after 6 months without supporting the current one.
Any legit reason for not having honeycomb? No none.
I really cant see myself buying another Samsung product.
If the OEM doesn't wanna play nice and give us Gingerbread let alone Honeycomb, I'm sure the ORSUM devs here will be able to "cook" something up.
Afterall, isn't that what this forum is all about?
Some little 'savings' for Samsung
Samsung care about costumers already have. There is official 2.2.1 there are lot of other devices from other manufacturers what simply won't get 2.2... and we will get 2.3 also... Who said they don't care about costumers... New tablets are not the same category, except HTC Flyer almost all are 10 inch monster and for lot of money... Not the same race as Galaxy Tab in. We bought our device on the last quarter of year, will we rush for a new one just for Honeycomb and dual core CPU, don't think so... This is problem for Samsung? Don't think so. Will be no people in the future who change his/her device in every next quarter... If Samsung leave me alone, would we buy any new Samsung device in the future? Don't think so... Could it be a big business? Don't think so... We will see...
"As for original Tab owners, all is not lost. Wong said they’re “discussing internally on the next update, but we haven’t made a decision yet. In the future, when we have made a decision, we will let you know.”

I would say that executive is dead wrong. This year the market will be flooded with 10" tablets running Honeycomb. As such manufacturer's need to find a way to differentiate themselves from the pack. Samsung's current Tab does that by having a smaller size and being able to make phone calls. I hope Samsung decides to make a next-gen Tab 7 to go along with their new Tab 10. I am very happy with the current Tab but I also think it could definitely benefit from a dual core processor and fast graphics engine.

I very much agree with what was said.
added note that we all know that the nook color has honeycomb running already. even though its a port of the sdk, doesn't the nook color have lesser specs than the TAB? I'm positive that we will get something made for us.Surly not by OEM, but by yours truly, the amazing devs.... after we clean up the mess in the Development Section. It looks like a 9 year old went to clean his room because his mom said so and just took all of his toys and shoved them in the closet.
If the Tab doesn't get an update to Honeycomb from Samsung, I will be a former customer, I'll donate this to my mom, and I'll switch to the HTC Flyer. They've been brilliant with their updates, and their UI updates for Android.
Same for me, if the Tab doesn't get an update to Honeycomb from Samsung, I will not buy any other Samsun device ever. The minimum I expect from them is to give support to an only 5 months old Tablet. When I said support I am meaning updates.

Unless Samsung intends to phase out production of the 7 inch galaxy tab I don't see how they can not support a Honeycomb release. By all reports that I have seen the Galaxy Tab is selling very well indeed and that would mean that Samsung would continue with production for quite some time. If they choose to produce the 7 inch tab with gingerbread only and the tab 2 with honeycomb it would indicate that the 7 inch tab is doomed as far as Samsung is concerned. They would gradually phase out production of the 7 inch tablet altogether.
One other possibility that Samsung might try is to produce a dual core 7 inch version of the tab with Honeycomb installed. That would give them an excuse not to support the current galaxy tab by encouraging current owners to move up to the dual core technology.
As far as Samsung committing to 10 inch tablets is concerned...only the market will determine what size(s) will be produced. If consumers prefer a smaller tablet the manufacturer's will continue to produce tablets in the size that the market wants. To do otherwise would mean giving up market share and I don't think any of them are willing to lose market share in a market that is growing very quickly.
Either way Honeycomb will wind up on our Galaxy Tabs. The developers here at XDA are brilliant and I'm sure they will combine their skills to port Honeycomb to the current Galaxy Tab.
The short answer.…yes it will, but not from Samsung and not anytime soon.
From the Tab.

I think the state of smartphones is tough for the manufacturer and consumer right now because the evolution of technology for smartphones are out of control right now. Someone needs to step up and say "hey, we need to tone it down a notch. We need to allow the consumer to catch up and actually enjoy the investment they just made". Yes, it is an investment for the consumer because they are actually committing to 2 year contracts or paying a lot of money for full price phones. So, manufacturers need to roll things out slowly as far as new hardware goes and enjoy the profits till they start to see it dropping then roll out the next great thing. On the OS side of it? I think Google needs to step up and say "hey, we need to get all the devices that can handle the most latest and greatest version of android updated and caught up." Then, from there roll out new versions at a solid steady pace. Take some control if they really want the android OS to rule the smartphone/tablet market. Of course this is just my opinion.

for what it's worth, i like my tab coz it has a phone function period.
even if we dont get honeycomb, we would definitely get ice cream when it landed on nexus which is honeycombish and gingerbreadish
its fine for me
patient is the key ^^
Hi all, after watching some videos of the SDK for HC, I have been both surprised and disappointed because I expected a revolution most notorious for this new OS and only seem to alter the appearance like Touchwizz style and I am surprised that the optimization by Tiamat, in my opinion provides a perfect scenario, much more possibilities both in appearance and applications than ICS
somevideos from SDK ICS Tablets

I'm definitely happy with ICS. The improvements are good for phones. For tablets, think of it as a refinement to Honeycomb.
In anycase ICS does really deliver on Google's promise to unify phones and tablets.
I agree with you, for smartphone is an excellent update has new features, although almost everything is extrapolated from the HC
It was really meant for phones.

How do you figure that?
I frankly don't know what you were expecting exactly. This is an update to an existing OS, not a new OS. And there are a LOT of changes under the hood that haven't been really discussed at the Samsung/Google event. Something like turning the Recent button into an actual Task Manager is a very nice features. Built-in screenshot capabilities is another long-time requested feature that is in ICS. Sure, a lot of the other changes are targeted at phones, but Android is first of all a mobile device OS.
Look at http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-4.0-highlights.html for a closer detail at changes in 4.0. And look at all the non-visible, under-the-hood changes that are nonetheless major, even if they do not represent any visual or end-user impact at first: http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-4.0.html
To me, ICS looks exactly what it should have been: first of all a serious spit-shine done at Android, giving the bit of polish people often complained it lacked. And it also brings a lot of new goodies to the table.
Its because we have some of the features on our tablets that our phones had to live without....
I'm going to be happy when our tablets run most apps on the market like phones without issue.
Slightly unrelated note: Andy Rubin said at AsiaD that ICS should be opensourced a few weeks after the Galaxy Nexus launch. That will allow ROM modders to come up to plenty of new features for our tablets.

Agreed. Actually, ICS is what honeycomb should have been. Motorola actually rushed Google for the developement of 3.0 to release with the xoom. Anyways that's their reasoning for not releasing the source for HC and why they are going to be releasing the code for ICS. They didn't want people to developed a platform that was rushed.
Rushed or not it works great as a tablet os.
There is alot of honeycomb in ics you can easily tell that hc was a transitional os but alot better than most other transitional OS's like.....windows ME or vista....so not sure how rushed it was.

Uh, no. I think if you were disappointed than your expectations were too high. If you've used Honeycomb, then very little in ICS should surprise you, given that Google is simply using ICS as a vehicle to link phones with the work already accomplished on their tablet OS. Honeycomb is great, and I look forward to getting ICS on both my Nexus S and my Xoom, given that Honeycomb (to me) is superior in almost every way to Gingerbread.

I disagree. We lost features. The central complaint about the original Galaxy Tab was that it was basically a big phone. Not much has changed with Honeycomb and until very recently, that big phone had more functionality than our devices (which are bigger big phones.)

Calling any iteration of Android "rushed" demonstrates a misunderstanding of Google's core development philosophy.

Again Motorola pushed google for a tablet os to produce the xoom. Again, its their reason for not releasing the source for HC. Source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_(operating_system)#Licensing
Jellybean will focus more on tablets. With a plethora of quad core tablets about to be unleashed, devs should jump at the chance to develop richer applications that can harness the power of 4 cores.

Galaxy tab was a big phone..just as the ipad was. They are both running os built for phones....hc is nothing like a phone and was built with tablets in mind. So the comparision is kinda ridiculous.

I am fully aware of the history. But it was far from a bad release and does not feel rushed. It fits perfect. And ics is not filling very many holes in hc. So if you don't like hc then I'm afraid you wont like ics.
All they did was merge hc with the phone world and eliminated the phone only part. Ics is hc with a dialpad.

So are you both saying that Google would never in a million years push production of a product while omitting some features to make a deadline? If honeycomb was what Android 3.0 was always meant to be, then Google would have had no problem with releasing the source for it as they have been doing for all previous versions. If you really understood androids history, then you either have insider knowledge or are demonstrating a misunderstanding of reality.

Release early, release often is a core google philosophy.
The lack of a honeycomb source release has nothing to do with being "rushed". According to Rubin, it was to prevent the proliferation of phones with a non-phone optimized OS.
