[OFFTOPIC] Samsung Note not coming to US per Samsung - Galaxy S II General

Per that article, Samsung says the Note isn't coming to the US. If this ends up being true, I'll just get the international version like I did with the SGS2. Nevertheless, that sucks for us.

It don't matter to me wether it comes or not. I just hate that they take out the middle button for capacitive buttons in the USA.

Upcoming Sumsung Phone on Verizon

I know some people have been turned off from the lack of updates from Samsung/Verizon or whatever. (I blame Bing)
Unlike other people, after owning the Fascinate.. I actually would love to buy another Samsung phone.
I can't give up the SAMOLED screen. I actually like the over-saturated colors. They give it a POP in comparison to other screens.
What's next.... Samsung Droid Charge... meh.... Not sure why this has no appeal to me? Anyone else feel the same?
However, the Galaxy S 2, I'm completely drooling over this phone....Anyone think the Galaxy S 2 would come to VZW - or the US... ?

$299 WITH contract?!? The prices keep creeping higher and higher with a contract for new equipment. All it means is that I'll have to wait a little while longer (unfortunately). Prices always drop, new phones come, etc.
credit card = no contract lol, normally buy a phone then sell old to help make up difference, but sgs2 will be my next phone for sure. updates are not the selling factor for me the hardware is and I own a lot of sammy products and they have always been top-notch

There is always Certified Pre-Owned as well. This phone was an upgrade for me from the OG Droid 1 and it costed me 49 bucks. Best 50 I've ever spent. So hopefully by the time my contract expires I'm hoping CPO Galaxy S 2's will be available.

WHOA. I had no idea it was that close to release, I thought it would come out in September at the earliest. Geez, I wonder if I Verizon will let me trade in my Fascinate for it, and I just pay whatever difference there is. My phone sound quality sucks, the GPS is a mixed bag, and I can complain about them not pushing Froyo to their phone yet (yes, I do currently have a Froyo rom on my phone, but it's still a legitimate complaint since it's a leak I have running). I really really want the new Galaxy S II. Worst case scenario, I'll have to find some way of getting the money to purchase it for full-price off contract.
According to a leaked Verizon roadmap, the SGS2 may arrive as early as next month on Verizon(with LTE!):
"Verizon’s spring roadmap has 8 Android phones releasing in less than 60 days"
I am sorry, but that Road Map is fake (I hope I'm wrong). I would LOVE the S2 to come out next month... but... I'd look for it by the end of the summer. The only question is, will it be the actual S2, or an altered step child like the Fascinate to the Original Galaxy S?
We should make a list for upcoming non-Samsung phones.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
that sucks that it's going to be lte. I don't even have it in my area, and by then I'm guessing the price of data plans will have gone up for 4g phones
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I know I definitely plan on making the S2 my next phone. I'm with the OP in that I'm not at the least turned off by Samsung. I blame Verizon. I've been through this before with the OG Storm. Yes, Rim was responsible for some hardware issues but in the software realm, Verizon sucked in releasing timely firmware to fix software glitches. I had to rely upon the BB community in order to get my phone up to snuff. If Verizon didn't have such a large and reliable network, I'd leave them.

Samsung GT 7.7 not coming to the US per Samsung

http://www.slashgear.com/samsung-says-no-to-galaxy-tab-7-7-and-galaxy-note-in-the-us-02176557/
If this is true, this sucks tremendously. Guess, people are going to have to get the international version.
Our man Chris Davies wrote earlier this week that the carriers might kill the Galaxy Tab 7.7 thanks to the fact that the tablet has voice calling capability. Davies reckons that the carriers in the US won’t appreciate that voice calling feature because it might make some users cancel that smartphone plan rather than having both smartphone and tablet plans. I would be willing to bet that Samsung shopped the Tab 7.7 and the Note around to carriers in the US and found no takers.

Sucks that no US carrier decided to pick it up. Guess, its the GT7 BS all over again in that they don't want their customers to use voice/data on the same plan.

While this does discourage carries they might just do the same thing they did with the original galaxy tab and just lock it out......
Its still not announced officially.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
Well, this was an international event, and they didn't announce availability in any country yet, so I don't think they're ready to announce availability. I don't think that Samsung is dumb enough to pass on one of its biggest markets for this, and I think this was just a misunderstanding.
Also, the guy in this video seems to have been told that the "IR" port on the side is for the "American" model of the Galaxy Tab 7.7, and that the models on display were Wi-Fi only, so hopefully the Wi-Fi model will launch alongside the 3G model, unlike the original 7 inch Galaxy Tab...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejG-wM2dS_k
Also for what it's worth, these PR guys really don't know what they're talking about most of the time, the girl in this video even said that the camera was 5mp, when it's actually 3mp.
They did this for all the previous devices. That just means they don't have a plan in place for US yet. It doesn't mean they won't release in US.
galaxy tab 7.7 is now blocked by Apple. I have never been this mad with a company before.

Actually injunctions granted from Germany impacts the rest of the EU doesn't it?
Also the reason why germany is chosen over other EU countries is the fact that Germany will grant preliminary injunction based on Community design and community design grants do not have a review process before being granted

The preliminary injunction doesnt effect other countries in EU at the moment. At first it did, but some days after it was issued the court sayd they are not sure if they can ban it in all EU countries.
I'm not sure if the final decision will effect the EU or only Germany.

Galaxy Note - Verizon Wireless!

Do you think it's possible we'll see the Galaxy Note released with Verizon wireless in the near future? Maybe Q1 ? I do not understand Verizon's business strategy behind this I hate it!
I'd like to be optimistic and say it will, but the odds are that it won't. The Note is a GSM device; Verizon would have to request a CDMA version, and I can't see the odds of that being too high in the near future.
The Galaxy SII got a CDMA variant, but only because it's Samsung's flagship device, and even that took approximately six months. The Note's size limits it to a more niche market.
No it is unlikely that you will see the Galaxy Note on the Verizon any time in the near future. They have plenty of new devices they've already launched along with the upcoming Galaxy Nexus to be thinking about launching the Galaxy Note as well right now.
Also, you shouldn't use an explanation point in your subject header when asking a question. It implies that your stating a fact about the Galaxy Note and Verizon Wireless and was the reason i even clicked the thread .
I don't see this coming out in the US at all anytime soon let alone Verizon
I am in agreement with the other postings, Both the Carriers and Samsung are really missing the boat not giving us this device before Christmas. More than likely it is all based on business modeling .........meaning........ we need to sell xxx-amt of the sgs2 or other phones then toss us this afterwards. I is rumored that we will see a USA version in Q1........ but with Samsung's record on meeting deadlines that could mean August.......
I cant for the life of me figure out why anyone would want this phone on a US carrier iteration with slower updates and paying more for your whole phone+plan combo on a contract...

Well, if you're not on AT&T you don't have a choice but to hope for a US version as imports won't work.
so what do you guys think, just go with nexus for now & wait for the g-note when it arrives? if it arrives.
Yes. If anything, you can sell your Nexus when the Note is released, if it is released at all.
Coming to AT&T, hopefully early next year. http://phandroid.com/2011/09/30/sam...sses-through-fcc-headed-to-the-north-america/

Obviously you are correct,
but yet again I am quite confused as to why anyone would think that verizon would get an GSM only phone when they famously passed up on the GSII because they were getting the nexus.

Yeah but who cares? AT&T versions are loaded with bloatware, they never have the phone in white (e.g. SG2), locked down, lack an FM radio and they remove the physical home button. Not worth getting an AT&T phone at all. Save up your pennies and buy an unlocked phone, it isn't that expensive.
I already bought the international version off contract. I'm not about to sign a contract just to get a crippled version of the device. I happen to like the physical Home button and lack of a search button; holding the Menu key has the same effect.
While there are bloatware/crapware issues and the 2 year lock in as clear disadvantages the fact that you can get a phone like the Note for $300 or more less than unlocked is a big plus for many. In addition, you have a much easier return location if you have a problem.
I almost picked up a Note last week but Newegg didn't have any in stock so I delayed my purchase. Given the issues some are reporting with the Note and the fact that any first of a kind phone is likely to have early issues I decided to hold off for a while.
One of my concerns with buying an imported phone is that you have no way of knowing if the phone they ship you was returned by someone else. This, perhaps more than anything else, is giving me pause about buying an imported model so soon after the phone is released.

Galaxy Touch on sprint? Desperately needed updates from the getgo...signals cut out all day long: NOTHING. Samsung sent it out. Sprints been sitting on it.
i almost got the galaxy note myself. If its coming to att then I might just wait. I'd love to have a warranty with it. I would also like to be able to play with it before I buy it. I'm just wondering if it does come to att will they let me keep my unlimitedplan from my iPhone.

Have fun getting throttled after 1 day
As for the "speculation", no USA Sammy android phone has ever had a physical home button. AT&T also usually removes fm radios. But... if you want to pay $300 for a throttled, crippled Note with no ICS coverage for a long long time then have fun!

We understand you trying to justify your recent $800 purchase, but let's try to be a little objective. I'd gladly save $500 on a phone by adding some bloatware or giving up a home button.

The import G-note will most likely have a better look over the att G-note. I just spent $750 on a white G-note n I think it was a good deal. I sold my iphone 4s for $550 n my dell streak for $200. so I really only paid $217 (cost of upgrading to phone 4s) for my G-Note. I do miss the US warrenty n the support if I would have gotten from att. if I done my math right I over paid about $100 for my G-note. But I got a white G-note n 3 to 4 months less waiting.

Wow... some people are taking this kinda personally, lol.
I'm planning to root that sucker and use a custom ROM, plus I've got the grandfathered unlimited data, so I'm psyched AT&T will apparently be offering the Note.
To be honest, if you can flash it and there is good xda dev support, there is no reason not to get a subsidized phone. It's just nice if something goes wrong in the first year to be able to mail it in and get it replaced. I have a service center in town, so Ican just go swap it out.

A Farewell to my Beloved Note

I was one of the many unlucky people to brick their Note in the whole ics kernel fiasco. I tried to send my phone to Samsung Germany for repair but it would have cost $112 to ship it there . However Amazon said they would give me a full refund despite it being out of the 30 day period. I'm too afraid to invest in another international Note though. So now I need to decide which AT&T phone I should get. Any ideas? I don't want to wait much later than June to get a new phone by the way.

I wish I contacted Amazon before ordering the replacement Note (yeah, my first Note was bricked by the LP6 kernel ).
If you are really sticking with AT&T only devices, I think the I717 would fit you best. It's a direct replacement of what you had (minus the home-button). I had the I717 for two hours, then I decided to sell it for the N7000 instead because of the developments available. The One X is also a good choice, but the AT&T version lost its "quad-core edge" compared to the international version.

I would wait for the S3 or buy a used Note. That last "new" phones were bought were Captivates. After that 2 SGS IIs and my Note Used. Saving our upgrades for iPhone 5s to sell unless ATT decided to dump our UL MediaNet plans to upgrade. Then we won't upgrade at all. Don't need LTE. WiFi is everywhere.
I'm confused why blame the note for upgrading unoffically to the wrong firmware version for you phone? It's country specific? So at the end of the day you don't like the Note?
I personally can't see a replacement for the note till the next version comes out.
Get another Note is my choice.

Right, but the OP explicitly stated that he/she wants to stick with AT&T's devices. The N7000's super-brick wave is strong as of late, and there is no way to get it warrantied through Samsung in the US (I'm in the US, too, and my first Note was bricked by LP6) besides sending it back to where it was originally sold for service.
The advantage to having an AT&T device is that should it be super-ultra-hard-bricked or any other faults, it can be brought back to the DSC (Device Support Center) for an exchange within the 1-year warranty period.
International Note + CM9. Better than anything out there.

Sorry to post my question into your thread but I could not ignore your experience with the GN International bought from Amazon.de
I am just about to go the same route as you did, and because I also had one problem with a product bought from Amazon and the way they've handled it so brilliantly that I was thrilled with their after sale service.
I was asked to send it back and because I was given a bar code which I glued on the box I didn't have to pay the shipping cost (just needed a printer and some glue). And because I've asked for the money back instead of Amazon credit I had the money in 4 days maximum instead of instantly, which in my book is amazing.
Now I am considering of buying a G.NOTE from German Amazon or Spanish Amazon. The price difference is 2 Euros so it's not a deal breaker so my question is:
Do German G. NOTEs have a problem and would it be preferable for me to get one from Spain or is it all the same thing and I should not worry much about it?
Thank you all for your answeres.
Don't you worry about German or Spanish versions. They are the same as long as you buy unbranded exemplars. The sole difference is the rom version. Just make sure you buy a N7000.

Wait ....I thought the N7000 was the AT&T US version??? I had understood that the major difference between the US and Intl versions was the physical button.
I just ordered the AT&T version. I also cannot consider a "Flagship" device one without SDCard capability.....might as well get an iPhone. I don't get why the decision with that, being that the EVO 4G LTE has the SDCard ...it's the same phone rebranded....That just ticks me off. Same reason I could not buy the GNex.
I'm just hoping that the SGIII comes out with in my 30 day return period in case I don't like the Gnote.

SGH-I777 or get an unlocked HSPA+ Gnex off of the Play Store.
The AT&T Note is a crippled derpbeast. The AT&T One X is even more heavily locked than other HOX units.

No.
The SGH-I777 was the last Samsung device on AT&T to only have minor differences from the international version. (touchkeys, NFC, slight audio differences for calls)
The AT&T Note has the following in common with the international version:
Physical dimensions, Wacom digitizer, screen type, name - that's it. EVERYTHING else about the device is completely different.
