It seems like there are threads on release dates for many countries except the U.S! So this thread is for people with any information on the release date in the states. =)
I hear ya, I'm am so ready to buy this phone... now if t-mobile usa would speed up the process a bit I could quit driving my wife crazy surfing for anything related to the GS2
What we need to do is to create an online group for wives of phone addict xda members who can't stop researching new devices and roms. Then, they'll spend all day on that forum and won't notice we're ignoring them. My wife just doesn't understand that I NEED this phone on T-Mobile.
I hope you guys get it soon... just like us up north here in canada... but as for tmob getting it... the current international version doesn't have AWS support so that may hold it up a tad for them... just like WIND here... hope that doesn't burst a bubble... and if you already knew that... sorry!
This guy will do T-Mobile 3G, cough cough, 4G? It's a plus device?
It's looking likely that T Mobile USA won't release the SGS2 until sometime in July. With the Sensation release looking likely for June 8th, they need time to maximize its sales before releasing another high end phone. I just don't know if I can wait. I might jump on the G2x or the Sensation.
I may have missed it, but is AT&T going to be getting this phone?
I keep hearing about tmobile but no AT&T talk. If not then i am going to be very very sad.
to my knowledge AT&T's bands are supported on the international version and as a result if carriers are smart and release the actual model and don't demand variants then you should be in the clear

That's really ****ty if they hold it off till July considering the rest of the world get's it in about a week or two.
I'm really hoping that information about its release date will come soon. If US carriers don't get it soon, I'm going to have to buy the international version.

Indeed. I'm ready for one, NOW, to use with T-Mobile. Group buy, perhaps?
It's not unlikely that all major US carriers (and some minor ones) will get variants of the SGS2, though the timing is very uncertain (there have been NO credible stories about precise targets, with the only semi-official statement indicating that Fall is most likely for its first appearance).

I'm almost positive the SGSII will be available on all carriers it's just a matter of timing on the release just like it's predecessor =).
Well, a while ago from that leaked verizon "phone schedule" the SG SII was slated for sometimes in May. Now how long into may or if it gets released is the question. Right now I'm looking to upgrade to a smartphone and grandfather in.
So far Galaxy S 2 is looking pretty sweet and I want it

wasn't that a 1st of April joke/hoax?
AT&T Infuse announced in Jan 2011 is about to be released sometime in MAY, and it is an AT&T exclusive (does not need to stand out by definition).
With the SGS2, the 4 majors would want to customize the phone to stand out from the others, so I would expect even longer delay between the announcement (March) and release.
And now we hear Sammy has SGS3 for the Fall.

Well so far, all the phones on that list have been released at about the right time :O, so not really sure if it's april fools joke. The list had specific dates for all the other phones except for instance bionic/galaxy s 2, where it said "May" for their releases.
I'm hoping for the may release so I can get grandfathered in with the Galaxy s 2 !!!!!! *crosses fingers**

and that is exactly why I created that thread about SGS3, but people are just laughing there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049529
Since SGS2 may not even penetrate the market by the Fall of 2011, it is possible the US carriers will just skip SGS2 and go straight for SGS3.
I hope not because then we won't get the SGS2 this fall and will have to wait until February 2012 before the US carriers get around to destroying the device with useless and unwanted carrier changes and blotware and finally release the GS3 to NA that came out in the UK in September lol
I wish Samsung, HTC, Motorola and the other major players would just stand up to the US carriers and say "This device hits the market internationally in May you have until then to do what ever modifications you feel necessary and send the device to us to verify it meets our QA to ensure they don't cut corners to meet the deadline. If you don't have your modifications done by that time you have to release the device the way it was intended free of carrier modifications. If you don't comply with this then you won't get a flagship device that is required to meet your sales goal for the quarter and compete with other carriers that meet these requirements and have our flagship devices available"
How hard would that be, the carriers HAVE to have the newest flagship devices to complete in the high end market if the device manufactures would start throwing their weight around and refuse to release devices to the US market the carriers would have no choice but to back down. Sure that would mean an initial delay in the US for some devices while the carriers cry about not getting their way but eventually they would have no choice but to give in and then then the NA market not only gets all of our future devices in a reasonable time frame they aren't all ruined by the carriers petty attempt to stand out from each other. I don't know about anyone else but personally I would be willing to not have the SGS2 available if it meant I got the SGS3 when it was released in the UK free of carrier modifications and bloatware and that is ultimatly what this would come down to. The NA market misses a generation of top end devices but in return starting with the generation after that we don't have any more of this BS. I can suffer a little in the short term for a worth while long term reward. Plus I would bet money the smaller carriers who are trying to take a chunk out of the big guys market would love the chance to pick up flagship devices that the 3 major carriers missed out on because they wouldn't leave the device alone and just release it so it isn't like the devices would be totally unavailable you could still always get it from say Boost or T-Mobile who are more worried about customer satisfaction than adding bloatware and acting like a petty child who has to try and make his new toy "better" than the other kids or buy the international version and add it to a supported US network like many are doing with the SGS2

I am sensing SUNDAY June 12th AT&T release of Samsung Galaxy Attain (almost 11 months after the Captivate)!!!
How long was it from when they made the announcement last year did the Galaxy S actually go on sale on AT&T?
Here you go, last years dates I posted earlier
kreoXDA said:
Do you guys remember how the first Galaxy was introduced on the 4 carriers last year?
Let me remind you
June 4th - first release in Asia
June 29th - launch party in New York City where it was first announced that 4 models were coming to 4 carriers, with no dates. (+25 days)
Later on, gradually, release dates were being announced about 1-3 weeks prior to a particular release. The phone was released as follows:
T-Mob - July 15th (+41 days)
AT&T - July 18th (+44 days)
Sprint, keyboarded CDMA version - August 30th (+87 days)
Verizon, CDMA version - September 9th (+97 days)
We learned that SGS1 was even coming to the United States 3.5 weeks after the phone was released in Asia.
The quickest provider T-Mob got it almost 6 weeks after the first country.
The slowest provider VZW - 3 months after.
So give this some time, sit back, relax, wait for bug reports from the UK beta testers , and enjoy your fixed (or maimed) version in a few short weeks.
peace

Note the US Launch party last year was 25 days after first international release, and this event is around 25 days after Korea/UK release
lol after dealing with the ATT Craptivate for a year I'll gladly "beta test" the vanilla samsung GS2
good luck with your carrier updates. I'm done purchasing US phones "variants" that force you to use reorient kernels for the Roms.
Thanks for the release date info. Looks like they're following a similar schedule... just bumped ahead 1 month from last year =)
Still, as much as I'd like to wait for a US variant... I don't really want to have to sign a contract to get one, nor do I want to put up with the bloatware and filth they put on the phone. Rooting and flashing ROMs on my T-mobile spec Galaxy S was annoying, having to ODIN back to certain firmwares before being able to flash a new ROM.
And the one question that I'm still wondering... will the US be getting a tegra version? That would suck =(

i've been off contract since Dec. i had originally settled on getting the Infuse when it was first announced but instantly fell in love with the SGS2 and decided to wait. but... i need a new phone NOW. actually i needed a new one 2 months ago but decided to hold strong for the SGS2... but it's come to a point where my current phone is damn near unusable, so i think i'm going to get the infuse when it launches and roll the dice on the sgs2 coming out before the remorse period ends. or failing that just give it back and wait some more for the sgs2 to release.
I think the best option for some of us is to buy the carrier branded version on contract, sell it, and use that money to get the vanilla SGS 2. After dealing with all the Captivate issues as well I'm never buying a carrier branded Android ever again.

not to mention the Craptivate looks ugly as hell and nothing like a SGS
If i was on att there would be no doubt id go with international like you said no waiting for carrier update, no carrier branding and missing hardware features.
I really wish carriers kept the design the same as the international it would be so much easier to update and to port roms

That's one point where you're crazy. The Captivate is the nicest Galaxy S and has a lot less plastic than any other one. Everyone has told me they liked the Captivate over the other Galaxy S variants. I've been very happy with the Captivate, but not as happy about the AT&T branding and waiting for their crap.
I would much rather spend the money and buy the phone unlocked than buy it from ATT.

Only issue I see with this is warranty support. If Samsung US would support a UK model fine, but if it requires international shipping that would give me pause.
What if the US version has NFC? Would that change your mind?
Yes, NFC is useless right now, but wouldn't that at least lower your resell value of the UK version whenever one else in your area has NFC?

Given the fact (I hope) all 4 major carriers are getting it, and AT&T, VZW and T-Mob are in an NFC payment system alliance , the chances of US getting NFC versions are not extremely low

I don't see NFC being that important to me right away. I am guessing by the time it becomes important to me, I will already be looking at another phone.
Also, even though the UK might not be getting the NFC version, you probably will still be able to buy a NFC version unlocked from another country.
Hate to say it... but until the iPhone gets NFC it's not worth worrying about.
Devices still need to be upgraded in stores, airlines, and what not to accept NFC no? The above poster is probably correct, the phones are going to need to be widely available before companies spend the money to upgrade their equipment.

Why, because the iPhone has the market share lead and will dictate what the market will do? No, that's Android.
Samsung and Verizon is a bad combination. I own a fascinate and a galaxy tablet. Both items have service thru Verizon. I have to say that I am upset that the fascinate was the last galaxy s to get froyo and now the g tablet thru Verizon will probably be the last to get gbread. Samsung and Verizon has really pushed me to the edge with their update history. Verizon to be such a large company, but to come in last place for updates. My galaxy tablet will probably be my last purchase of a Samsung product from Verizon. My sanity is only intact because of the devs on this site. Thank you to all the devs on this site . I am just venting lol.

Hi Neo:
I'm afraid it's not just a Verizon/Damsung thing. It's a Verizon thing only. They are late to market with every technology and phone and late (if ever) to market with updates on all of the phones they carry that have equivalents on any other carriers
This is the primary reason I left Verizon and switched to AT&T. Some claim that this is because of Verizon's much stricter and lengthier testing procedures, but their phones are no less buggy than those on AT&T. I've experienced similar frustrations and delays with every Smart Phone or tablet that I have ever owned from Verizon without exception (about 8 over the years). Unfortunately their network is still the best in terms of 3G coverage and continuity, and in terms of voice coverage and continuity.
That and the availability of a $20/month data plan is why when I got the Galaxy Tab, I got it on Verizon. I knew though that I was locking my tab into the slowest updating network.
cheers
t1328
The new Sprint GB update is working on the Verizon tab. So in the end it's all good. In the development section there is a new GB ROM dedicated to the Verizon tab as well as the Honeycomb development by spacemoose so stay tuned for updates on that. She specifically has the VZW version of the tab. So all is not lost

Same. VZW has the best cell coverage where I live, so I'm going to keep my dumb phone with them, but once my contract for my Gtab is over, I'll migrate to elsewhere for my data needs.
I completely agree... I love by SGT form factor but I absolutely HATE the OS. I want a real ROM for it but it doesn't look good.

use my upgrade and be locked in for another 2 years or buy the international version spec'ed one minus the lte? Or should I just get the Galaxy Nexus?
Im not to crazy about the lte as im sure my home area doesnt have it anyway. And Im pretty sure it'll eat up battery. Is there a difference in picture/video quality in either one of these? Compared to the Galaxy Nexus specs wise and camera/video wise?

Depends on what you use your smartphone for. If your usung it for advanced things like note taking, then the note. I personally would just use the att one,as sammy products have a pretty high failure rate, heck my infuse is still broken, i have to get a new one. If it was the international version, your 700 would gone, or it would takes weeks to get it fixed/get a new one. Instead on the nexus, you could get the skyrocket hd which will be atts version.

So the skyrocket hd will be the at&t galaxy nexus version? I didnt know that. I guess I have another one to think about, when I mentioned the galaxy nexus I meant the unlocked version. You have a point on waiting for something to get fixed when you order an unlocked version. Im not even thinking much about taking notes but more for the bigger screen. Wonder what the release dates are for the at&t version for both note and galaxy nexus.

If you don't care about LTE or worried about possible failure, get International version because it has better development support and beefier processor.
I was in the same situation as you and wanted to upgrade from SkyRocket. I ended up getting an international version because of the following reasons
- Lack of support for AT&T version (due to different processors.)
- Don't want to wait for months for AT&T version to be available.
- HATE AT&T bloatware.
If you have the money to spend on an unlocked version I would do that. I was in your shoes with no LTE in the area. On top of that I didn't want bloatware or a 2 year contract (the better processor being a bonus). I spent the extra cash and could not be happier, plus development on the international unlocked version will blow the at&t versions development out of the water.
How long have you been with ATT? Are you happy with them and pretty sure you will stay with them? If so, wait for the ATT version and get it on contract. You could always sell it and put the profit to any phone you want. The GNote blows the GNex out of the water spec wise and user wise. Once the GNote gets ICS the GNex will be left further behind. The GNote is Samsung's flagship product!
I have the International GNote and love it. I would not sell mine, but I might sell the skyrocket and get the ATT version GNote with no commitment pricing to have an LTE version...I switch between my GNote and skyrocket and my skyrocket has not been getting much love or use lately!

Im definitely worried about lack of dev support on at&t version that alone may push me to the unlocked version.

I've been with them for about 3 years, have a family plan with a corporate discount and I have the unlimited data plan which has recently been scammed into 2gb throttling so I am pretty disgusted with at&t for that, but I do get ok service most places with them.
I believe you on the gnote specs being better than the gnex specs, and this skyrocket hd that is suppose to be at&t's version of the gnex has touchwiz and gingerbread? No ICS? No way I'm falling for that. I rather have the gnote. Also as I mentioned about the unlimited data throttling they are now doing, even if I had full lte service everywhere I'd think I'd run into throttling faster than usual.

LTE is the ONLY reason why I would even consider AT&T version compared to international but since they have ruined it with throttling, I don't think that is a valid reason anymore. What's the point of getting LTE device when you can't even use it properly.

Are you experiencing throttling as well?
Can you recommend dependable online vendors for the international gnote? Like fast delivery, low failure rate, great rep etc..
Skyrocket HD is not AT&T version of Galaxy Nexus. Any Nexus phone means update directly from Google, not Samsung. That's the major difference. Otherwise, the two are close but the CPU on SR HD is weaker.
If you going to buy international version, make sure you understand that you get zero warranty from Samsung USA. So, you potentially could have $600+ down the drain.
AVOID CARRIER BRANDED DEVICES LIKE THE PLAGUE!! DO NOT BUY AT&T!!
I did the same - expansys $689 w/$20 off coupon, free ship. I checked with expansys and they give you a 2 yr samsung Eu warranty ( must ship through them to EU to fix). Good deal and I would rather have the international unlocked, unbloated note - mainly so when I read all that devs do for it on this site, I can take advantage and not be pissed off I have some crapware AT&T version. Remember if there is a diff cpu - you get none of the dev support - basically it isn't a note anymore (MHO).

I was only a couple of days away from being able to upgrade, and had my mind set on a Note 4. I've been getting more frustrated every day, as one of my co-workers went and looked at the N6 at the freaking US Cellular store. US Cellular! They have it before Verizon... I'm concerned that Verizon is taking all of this time to lock the phone as tight as the Note 4, which is still un-rooted on VZW. I live in a small rural area where our ONLY coverage is VZW and USC.

Thank Samsung for that. I don't know why anyone thought differently given the Note 3 bounty is *still* outstanding. And with Android L's change wrt kernel and root...odds are it will never be rooted.
Vote with your wallet people. Don't give Samsung a dime for their Knox crapware.

Oh, I agree somewhat. Knox blows. Samsung Touchwiz is my least favorite. BUT, the Note 4 is rooted already for the other carriers in the USA, but even (last I checked) over $11000 worth of bounty for root access on the VZW version hasn't had any success. If that was because of Samsung, the Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T versions wouldn't already have root access. The Note 4 hardware is amazing, we just need the ability to put different software on it. I hate Verizon... I may switch to US Cellular someday. They historically haven't had flagship phones available until the last year or two. But, there still isn't much in the way of Dev support here for their phones. What good is a monster phone if we can't hack and crack a bit? LOL

Half the problem with dev support is the insistence that every USA carrier have a unique SKU and mutually incompatible firmware. Which leads to community dev fragmentation to the max. Which is squarely on the manufacturer to blame. Knox and the locked bootloaders are also on the manufacturer. With Samsung's mobile division bleeding oodles and gobs of money this year, maybe Samsung will mend their ways.
Samsung's problem is that they went from making 2-3 high quality handsets under one brand (Galaxy)....to making dozens of handsets each with 5+ different unique carrier/region-specific SKUs.
An announcement on the 31st on when Nexus 6? What that it can be pre ordered in March or something and maybe 1,000 available
There are two golden rules you should keep in mind when speaking to ANY type of VZW rep:
1 - they have absolutely no information on the phone, its release or anything else related to it - plain and simple.
2 - they have been instructed to try to keep you on VZW, so anything of a delaying comment that will keep you hanging on while the first rule is in effect works for them, not you.
The phone only has two SKU's - We're going to find that VZ will allow it on the network (because they have to) and they won't sell it.
I said it first, and time will bear it out. I hope I'm incorrect. the only thing that will indicate it is here on VZ is a press release or seeing it on the website by magic, period. Anything else is just pure speculation and wishing.
Well, heres to pure speculation and wishing...:highfive:
But forreal. You suck vzw.

It is extremely unlikely at this point that Verizon will carry this phone in stores. That has been the speculation from the very beginning. Big Red will allow it on its network, but will never sell the device.

I just talked to my inside business rep and she just found out that it is not being released until February. Pretty pissed!
Winter is coming...
Be ready cuz its coming... The Motorola Droid Turbo 6! It will be full of bloat and skinned in the most obnoxious Motorola overlay. I'm sure it will have all the same specs with maybe a faster processor. It will have 5 different Verizon logos plastered all over it. Of course the bootloader will be locked and we will never see root!... God I love Verizon!
I just had a meditation session with my spiritual king. He let it be known to me that Verizon will release the Nexus 6 in... and then the session ended. I'll try again tomorrow.
The number of people posting their opinions as fact in this thread is hilarious. Nobody knows anything, period.

Nexus 6 on Verizon
My Motorola bought Nexus 6 works great on Verizon, and with Moto Credit im paying just like you would if you used the "edge" program from VZW... Oh and i didnt have to give Verizon any cut of the sales which is just icing on the cake!
Why wait? Buy one from another carrier, swap Sims.

We probably wont see any Nexus 6 in stores at all. Nobody has the Nexus 6 locally on any carrier cause its sold out.(I've checked, XMas present.) If Verizon wanted the sales they would have already done it.
When i went into Verizon to get a nano sim for my N6 they didn't even know wtf it is. They're like oh that's not going to work on our network... I had to walk them through what to do to get my device working.
