im using Virtuous Unity Beta and i have over 19000+ texts on my phone and whenever i text someone using GOSMS it taked forever to send a text. Should i start deleting some of my text threads or is this a problem with Virtuous Unity?
P.S. this only happens when i send a text everything else is pretty fast but texting. Also i can't use the stock sms app cause i have to many texts and it force closes on texting conversation thread that has alot of texts

Why in the hell would you have so many text saved? What for? I'm pretty sure all them text are taking up memory.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
Yeah... That's way too many. Every time you open that app your phone is trying to render 19k texts at once. There's an option that will automatically erase texts after you reach a certain number. Try 500.
It will take time for it to thread and it will also cache it in memory. Thus when you access the thread first it will use mem and proc resource to allocate it in cache. It will be faster to just delete or having a cap on auto clear based on quota shorted oldest to newest. Having 19k txt is more than enough to waste your resource.

Yes. Yes, have experienced this when I had the G1.. just try. As much to delete what is not necessary..restart your phone.. try using android assistant, OR optimize tool box.

holy crap i didn't even know that ;p then again im still sort of an android newbie ive been on the android platform for like 7 months now. but im in the process of deleting texts from a longgg time ago. I'm keeping my girlfriends texts thoe ;p we're at 13563 texts and counting lol.
You can back up the texts with go sms and then put a cap on them so it automatically deletes out a bunch....then if you need them back you can just restore them
Yeah dude, if keeping all your old texts really means that much to you, then download an sms backup application, or use the one built into gosms and periodically save them onto your computer or online. Then delete them off your phone. Honestly I'm surprised that it's still able to open SMS applications at all with that number.

HTC Glacier running MIUI
please let SMS die. upgrade to jabber or upgrade back to IRC
export to a cloud
Amazon S3
or
Amazon Cloud Drive
each provides five gigs free
you can then visit your precious often
by federal mandate your carrier also stores ALL your SMS until the end of time. subpoenas now grant access to your SMS archive as opposed to catching SMS from subpoena forward
are you sure you would not rather upgrade to jabber [xmpp] + encryption? you already have an internets connection... jappix.com , core.im , chatme.im , hot-chilli.net .... yaxim or xabber
I found the quickest way to save and restore text is with mybackup. You should check that out. This is coming from someone who once text 15000 in one month.

My apologies if this has been discussed but I can't figure out how to search from the app...
SMS...I believe its a 2.2 bug since my Epic is doing the same thing on the leaked 2.2 I've got on that. But the sms messages get thrown out of order when I'm in a constant conversation. If the response comes within a minute of my original sent text it will be placed above my initial text. My Epic didn't do it on 2.1 but on 2.2 both my Shift and Epic are doing it
I'm only focused on my Shift though. If anyone else experiencing this and if so is there a fix? Using a third party sms app seems to fix it but I would prefer to stick with the stock sms app. It serves me fairly well.
I'm running stock with no optimizations or enhancements. Just out of the box software.

I started noticing the same thing going on with convos on my EVO shift 4G. But I noticed it only does it if I keep the convo open and don't back out of it back to home screen. If they do come in out of order I noticed it gets corrected after I exit the messaging app and go back in. Hope that gives more insite and let me know if yours does the same thing.
On a side note....anyone leaving convos open and if another text comes in the phone not making a sound?

I've installed SMSFix from the marketplace and it works well for resolving this condition.
are you roaming? In a low-service area? Sending to or receiving from a blackberry?
Those three items caused problems for me on the stock messaging app. I've switched to handcent and haven't had any problems with messages out of order.

It does this on Eclair too. I know cause my epic is on eclair. It receives the message and tells you its from 5 hours later than the time it actually is.

If I leave a conversation open and lock my phone it doesn't make a noise when a new one comes in. This has resulted in me missing texts at the time they were received. Also, if I slide my keyboard open before the conversation is fully loaded, it doesn't automatically place you at the text entry box, and if you start typing it does it in all caps. Sometimes my phone randomly decides to start scrolling up while I'm typing. That's annoying. Also sometimes it doesn't autocorrect until I tap inside the entry field. Ugh.

Well kids, i've been running Handcent since day 1. Up until recently it's been great. Exactly what i wanted. But the past few updates have ruined it. It's slower then ever. To the point of being unusable and i've had enough.
What are some alternatives to Handcent? The real reason i got it was because i liked the layout it offered. I never really played with the other features. Any suggestions welcome.
I tried the new Stock and its ok.

agreed, handcent has become crapware, bloated, packed with "online services".
I used to love it, for it's customizability. (hard to believe thats a real word...)
but with the new Messaging 3.0 in the Sense2.1/3 ROMs... its good enough.

I have yet to hear anyone say that go SMS has done so. But it seems to be an android problem. I've heard both handcent and chomp SMS delete all messages. Also, if you do a Google search, various android devices have been plagues with deleted messages (the original Droid comes to mind) ,even when using the stock messaging app.
It seems to have been a problem in the messaging framework in earlier android versions. I'd be interested if you could find these reports of deleted messages on phones running Gingerbread.

Ok, I'm finally making a thread about something that has been irritating the hell out of me. Every time I receive a text from google voice my tablet just freezes. Especially when I have google voice open or the keyboard up and I'm typing something. The keyboard becomes completely unresponsive for about 10 secs. This is extremely annoying because I have to use this damn app to receive texts from my Google number.
I'm just wondering if anybody has the same issue or a slight idea into making the lag better?

GV works fine for me.
However, the one thing about GV that bothers me is that the text messages don't get threaded like the native messaging app. Its more like how blackberry would thread incoming texts back in the day.

The issue mentioned occurs when there are too many threads in the inbox. I had this issue as well. I could not send texts consistently as they would just queue forever, and sometimes freeze up my phone. After deleting the threads down to like 150 in Google voice, the issue was resolved. Do this on a computer, as it takes a long time.
it could be your internet connection, for me it works well!
I've trawled through Google and XDA to find potentional fixes on various platforms for Jellybean but I can't seem to remove this on JB. I've tried used GoSMS and alas, no such luck.
I've also got SQLite Editor and inserted sms_outgoing_check_max_count into the secure settings.db and still no success. This is really frustrating me as I do text a lot and I can't seem to find a fix!
Help would be much appreciated.
I remember that on CM10 there was an option to increase that warning till it reaches 1000 under Settings > Security
I hope it comes to CM10.1 because that bugs me too.

Not in stock, as Google have done the right thing as to stop rougue apps sending SMSs in the background without your knowledge. OK, there should be the option to turn it off but tbh if you're sending that many SMSs why not just send an email instead? Or call? You'll get the conversation over in 5 minutes!!
My rule of thumb is more than 5 SMSs, call as it's quicker
I have large groups of friends and regularly text a lot on a weekly basis, calling and email is out of the question for such large numbers.
To justify this is madness I tell thee! Point being it's down right ridiculous and it has never been a problem before. I'm having to hit allow for 100+ text and its a huge problem
It takes best part of half a day to get these approved. I've tried everything out there still no luck.

Solution
I was able to use the max_outgoing... trick on my ICS phone but it stopped working on my JB phone. I don't know what's the trick but there is an app on Google Play that worked on my JB 4.2.2 phone - I'm not going to advertise it here but you can search for yourself. Bon chance!

This should not be impossible to do with an app. Even with tasker, it is possible to create an app (app factory) that will have a trigger (sms sent or sms received or phone call received or phone call placed), and send a text to a predetermined number with details of the sent/received text or the tel# called. And these text messages can be set to not be stored on the phone.
Yes, I think this will work, because I have set my phone up with such a tasker profile (created an app from that profile, and hid it from the app drawer) - so that if my phone is lost, I can send it a specific text message, and it will respond back to me (at a predetermined phone# with GPS coordinates of the phone), without leaving a trace of the message with GPS coordinates on my phone.
It should be possible to change this to intercept any sms message (incoming or outgoing), and send that message to another phone#
Or, she may just have access to your buddy's service provider's account details (log in to the website, see incoming/outgoing call details easily)

Sounds kinda like cerberus. If your friend flashed the stock rom like mdc or mdl he should be able to remove the app. I know there is a setting to hide the app. And if he had root you can make the app non-removable. The only way to remove it is to flash the complete stock rom.
