Ok, I'm finally making a thread about something that has been irritating the hell out of me. Every time I receive a text from google voice my tablet just freezes. Especially when I have google voice open or the keyboard up and I'm typing something. The keyboard becomes completely unresponsive for about 10 secs. This is extremely annoying because I have to use this damn app to receive texts from my Google number.
I'm just wondering if anybody has the same issue or a slight idea into making the lag better?

I haven't noticed any lag while using Google voice.

GV works fine for me.
However, the one thing about GV that bothers me is that the text messages don't get threaded like the native messaging app. Its more like how blackberry would thread incoming texts back in the day.

Oh Yea, that too! Man that is so annoying. I have like 100 threads but I've only texted 4 different people. And not having batch delete is especially frustrating.

Problem must be situational. I use GV daily, and have not noticed lags.
Just fired it up and sent a test message. Definitely no lag on that one.
+1 on wanting threaded messages and thread delete...

How about if you have Google voice open and as you're typing you receive a message right at that moment? It's when I receive messages that it lags bad.

The issue mentioned occurs when there are too many threads in the inbox. I had this issue as well. I could not send texts consistently as they would just queue forever, and sometimes freeze up my phone. After deleting the threads down to like 150 in Google voice, the issue was resolved. Do this on a computer, as it takes a long time.
it could be your internet connection, for me it works well!

What is the best app out there for sending and receiving SMS text messages using your tablet?
sms sync tab text.. these are two that i have tired both work. Not used them in a while so might work better now with updates to them.. can do bluetooth or must be on same wifi network. .
Also if you are tethered you can use google voice or yahoo messenger to text to and from phone numbers. Groove ip as well and grove with google voice is awesome to make Phone calls from tablet.. There are so many out there you will have to try and find what works best for your liking and style.
I would recommend using SyncSMS
I would recommend Google voice and talkatone, as the latter requires a Google voice number. Talkatone incorporates both WiFi calling and SMS texting, while using only Google voice allows only texting over WiFi.
I've been trying out Tablet Talk lately and it seems to work well.

Same here... Tablet Talk is awesome!
I use mighty text. I am not sure about the other apps, but this app uses your own phone number, and there is an extension for the chrome browser for a computer.
SyncSMS
I think I like SyncSMS the best. It seems to be the best of the suggestions.
Google Voice + Groove IP apps so you can make/receive unlimited calls within North America along with unlimited SMS text for free over WIFI. Just pay the one time fee for the Groove IP app or use free equivalent.
I really like tablet talk

Another one here for tablet talk, been using it for a while now with little to no issues.

+1 to Google Voice. I use Google Voice's app for texts, and GrooveIP for calls.
I'm using mySMS it's free and works good. Give it a try. I have it set on my cell phone to run in background but not to notify or pop up. I then am able to use Handcent as my normal SMS application.

Do any of the texting apps mentioned here actually give you your own #, so that actual mobile users can text you? (I'm only aware of Google Voice doing this)
Using tablet talk and it's working great.

Yes the Mighty one does
I've trawled through Google and XDA to find potentional fixes on various platforms for Jellybean but I can't seem to remove this on JB. I've tried used GoSMS and alas, no such luck.
I've also got SQLite Editor and inserted sms_outgoing_check_max_count into the secure settings.db and still no success. This is really frustrating me as I do text a lot and I can't seem to find a fix!
Help would be much appreciated.
I remember that on CM10 there was an option to increase that warning till it reaches 1000 under Settings > Security
I hope it comes to CM10.1 because that bugs me too.

YES! Me too, thank-you for this thread.
I've tried the methods you talked about as well and nothing seems to work on the Nexus 4 version 4.2.1. (updated on Friday btw).
=(
Anyone have any success? I really don't want to use any other apps to text.
I've used GoSms but still had the same issue. The stock app won't send messages to groups which is super lame as I like the simplicity of it.

This is really frustrating. I sent a text to my group of friends at 7am in the morning and 10 hours later its still flagging the error and its unsent. I can't send any more texts :banghead:
Can someone please help?!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Anyone had any progress in resolving this?
Not in stock, as Google have done the right thing as to stop rougue apps sending SMSs in the background without your knowledge. OK, there should be the option to turn it off but tbh if you're sending that many SMSs why not just send an email instead? Or call? You'll get the conversation over in 5 minutes!!
My rule of thumb is more than 5 SMSs, call as it's quicker
I have large groups of friends and regularly text a lot on a weekly basis, calling and email is out of the question for such large numbers.
To justify this is madness I tell thee! Point being it's down right ridiculous and it has never been a problem before. I'm having to hit allow for 100+ text and its a huge problem
It takes best part of half a day to get these approved. I've tried everything out there still no luck.

Solution
I was able to use the max_outgoing... trick on my ICS phone but it stopped working on my JB phone. I don't know what's the trick but there is an app on Google Play that worked on my JB 4.2.2 phone - I'm not going to advertise it here but you can search for yourself. Bon chance!

Custom roms dont have this issue, but there is a solution... go find SMS limit remover. Don't remember if it requires root.
To be able to use my phone number, and send texts from my tablet. But, using my phone number. Because I know there are texting apps, but I'm not sure if I can set it up to use my real number.

Yes, download the free app called mighty text, from the play store. Install it on your phone and tablet.
It lets you text from your tablet but using your phone. It sends the texts to and from phone to tablet using phones data allowance as the app on your phone actually sends the texts as if you were using your phone.
It lets you read texts off your phone.

It's available on the backend, but you've got to actually run apps that support the new features (it's all part of GCM if you want to look it up, replacing C2DM). Even Google's offerings using GCM though (Hangouts, looking at you!) are really...weird about it.
For text messages try Mighty Text. Just install it on both your android phone and the nexus 7

Agree, Mightytext developer's really made my day a lot easier! Getting notified of SMS, MMS & calls that's incoming. Sure lot's of Apps gives the simular functions, but the great thing about MT is that you could have a tab running in your browser and get notified on the computer also, and that you can answer/create msg directly from N7 or webbrowser. Smooth is that it runs on your 3G/4G, so you'll not have to use bluetooth or wifi and flipping it on and off etc. Sure if you wanna use the wifi @ home on your phone, MT will of course use that route. Probably the most beloved product for me, because having long conversation over SMS is just dumb. When you have a keyboard that makes me input data that much faster, but not everyone is thinking like me Glad that's not the case though! hehe..
Best regards,
H.

Hey guys. With the new hangouts there are a lot of the features from previous SMS apps missing. Like the quick pop up reply from notification menu and multiple contacts.
I like hangouts and to be honest I'd like to use just one app only. Using Textra and it is awesome but can I uninstall hangouts and just use Textra on its own? What you guys use

I use google voice, barely any improvements, very buggy. But I haven't found anything better for texting thru voice. Also kakaotalk which is very bloated. I want a clean app that has option to send/not send push notifications. Know any?
I'm glad u said Hangouts is mandatory, I hate that. Can't we revert back to an older version and not be forced to use proprietary crap.
Hangouts is NOT mandatory, you can use any texting app you want.

Yea totally not Mandatory I used it for a week or so as my default sms application but then i switched back to the regular that came with the phone.
