[Q] Contacts app running in background - Galaxy 3 General

Contact app is always in the background after use, even though you close your app. Does anyone have a solution for this?
Could close only with task manager. Have other use same problem with contact app. Already installed different ROM's but always same.
Thanks a lot in advance

And whats the problem? Android supports multi-tasking and when it needs more memory, it makes it itself. Or if it matters you can close it with task manager included in FroYo

That's just an annoying thing for me.

Ok, so you can use froyo task manager. In my view, its the only task manager good for android system(others are ruining the running of the system)

Or try Go Launcher it has a really good task manager included

same problem for me also.....any solutions ????? i have tried various stock and custom ROMS...but nothing happened....

hi bro this is nothing new with TF3D devices and it will remain like this once manila is enabled.
use a task manager which u can use a monitor your processes and u kill ones which u closed but are actually minimised.
Ahh ok, can you reccommend a good task manager as the one that comes with windows doesnt appear allow much control.
They need to "Hotfix" the bug with incoming text messages, almost every text i get still shows as new even after ive read them it's doing my head in.

I found this link: http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/TaskMgr/
Version 0.1 (January 20, 2002)
Have you tested this on the Blackstone?
The one I use is Task Manager v3.1 which does more than that and works fine on the Touch HD.
I have installed Task Manager v3.1, working fine on the HD and it is way advanced then the default Task Manager. Thanks Vapor.

Closing open applications

Is there any special way to close an application that you are in, or does tapping the home button close it? I want to make sure that I am not using up processor with crap I'm not even using at the time.
To close apps you would need to download a task manager from Market. The way Android is meant to behave is that it leaves apps open until another apps needs it's memory and then it automatically closes other background apps.
I downloaded Advanced Task Killer. Any pros or cons to this app or is there one better?

That's what I use and it works well for me. As you can choose which apps to leave open and which ones to kill. And it remembers so you don't have to select everytime.
Is there a better one? Maybe, but that one works well, is simple, quick, and easy to use.
Here is why you DON'T NEED a task manager..... do yourself a favor and read..

I'll double confirm that YOU DO NOT NEED a task manager (unless u need to kill a crashing app if u dont wanna reboot)..
That's how Android is, "background running" apps do not affect phone's performance, cuz they're not really "running" in the background.
Some apps (like Dolphin HD browser) have EXIT/CLOSE button when u press menu
Also hitting back instead of home will usually "close" the app

Update: After actually reading the article and a related one linked at the bottom
http://androinica.com/2010/05/07/go...-imply-task-killermanager-apps-are-pointless/
The Android Market has dozens, possibly hundreds, of task killer apps all vying for attention. I’m sure some people may argue that there’s some short-term value to these apps; however, it appears that task killers are not necessary and in some cases do more harm than good. An additional 20 minutes of use or short bursts of freed RAM can be great, but users shouldn’t compromise experience and overall health of their device for that extra time.
Let me be clear in stating that apps like Advance Task Manager or TaskOS have great virtues like batch uninstall and app switching that many people can still benefit from using. With that said, it seems that constantly killing tasks, apps, and processes is not in the best interest of your phone. Android already has the natural ability to do this effectively, so let the phone do its job.

Good read. It reinforced my belief that I don't need to manage tasks myself.

How many apps should I have,to stop slowness?

I have only had the phone a few days and having installed about 10apps the performance of the phone has slowed a lot.i have task killer installed and making sure I'm shutting down most apps when not in use, But everything has slowed since I installed the last fm app
Is there a directory where temp files are stored?
Any help would be great!
Chances are pretty high that you have the same problem as I did, that one of the apps are slowing it down in some manner. You could also replace the TwLauncher (Samsungs ****ty home app) with something like Launcher Pro, which is my recommendation. Just doing that will garner you some performance help.
I already useG launcher pro, but I just restarted my phne and its sped up again.and my ram has increased also.I'm confused
Flash your phone with the modaco Rom and run the lag fix script. This is a temporary problem and a temporary fix. Samsung will fix it soon. They know about it but the phone was rushed out. Needs upgrading that's all. Mine runs very smoothly.

Doesn't look like an Android problem, but a phone specific so you need to rely on a fix from Samsung.
As mentioned above, nothing to do with Android ~ just bad coding on the part of software Apps installed.
What I have done and recommended to many is to get hold of the App 'SystemPanel'.
There are two versions available on The Market ~ SystemPanel Lite (Free) & SystemPanel App (Paid).
Try the Lite version first. It will firstly allow you to see exactly which application is hogging your system/taking memory/using battery performance/etc./etc.
It has detailed graphs/plots and about everything but the kitchen sink added to aid you in finding what is going on.
On top of that it also has the most detailed selection process of closing down Apps.
I purchased it almost immediately and know many others who have followed suit.
I don't get any further performance issues ~ period.
I have 150 apps, and yes there is slowness, i am also using minfreemanager on aggressive setting and this makes a HUGE difference.
Not sure what google can do about bad coding, is there a way to figure out which apps can cause slowness?

I read somewhere that the lag fix will recreate the problem of Android, which is low space to install apps!!
Is that right?

If you really want to find out what is slowing down your system then yes, use SystemPanel.
I can't remember what the difference is between the Lite & Full version.
All I know is I found it looked that good I get the Full version and have not looked back since.
The Lite version will give you some indication what the program does but please check what you get extra in the Full version.

I use Advanced Task Killer (free version) and works pretty well on my phone. Some people say not to use one but have yet to see any evidence of why not to other than peoples opinions, so it's up to you whether or not you want to use one.

Mine works much better without task killers. No lags at all... And i tried many of them. It´s just my opinion, dude. You can find many threads about this to get your own: to use or not task killers.

edit: And I use ADW (last update) and 026 firm non rooted. No task killer. No startup manager. And everything is just fine.

ohk. ill try to do both things... thanks a lot for the help! =)
I don't feel like writing out the full reason for why not to use a task killer.
Luckily for me, this link explains it nicely.
http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
Once you give it a read, you can google around and you will find other sources which give you the same info in a bit more detail.
As for the widget problem? I have yet to experience it unless I am changing a setting on ADW (pretty much any changed setting under ADW settings will result in my widgets reloading). However, I never experience it other than that. I imagine the task killer is your problem.
Good luck!
Again, it is an opinion, but without ATK, I would not be able to fully use ADW. You can explain the logic about why one should or should not use a task killer. My own personal experience shows that my battery and phone performs better with the free version of ATK.
[Note: the link to the geekfor.me as posted by ^^ says that Android automatically kills tasks when more memory is needed. NOT true with the X10. That is why the phone re-starts from time to time. SE's own support site list this as an issue. Once I have started using ATK, my phone does not re-starts by itself anymore].

"Android is hard coded to automatically kill a task when it’s done doing what it needs to do."
So why then does it leave tasks running when you close them, for example, if I use Meridian then close it, the app will still show in the ATK list, and remains there until I shut it down. When you boot the phone, it loads a few apps, that would remain there unless I use ATK. The first reply to the article sums up the experience of a lot of users.

Mine has never re-started itself without task killer.
I use Advanced Task Manager since I started using X10 with ADW Launcher. It was all fine at the begining. Then I reinstalled software and restored aplications (without settings) and started experience the same problem as OP. So I have changed some settings in ADW, especially paying attention to System Preferences and UI settings. I don't know excatly what I have changed but I do NOT experience any problems with ADW "restarting" after that. So in my opinion this problem is down to setting ADW properly, only.
My ADW was experiencing that as well and I enabled ADW Settings > System Preferences > System persistent
This seemed to fix it for me.
ATK and similar apps are a personal choice, I used ATK until late June but since uninstalled the phone had run smoother. But then, it's rooted and overclocked...
ADW is probably the best home, openhome and panda have issues and xxx too crashes too often

Samsung Task manager + Beautiful widgets= Problem!

Hello
I am making this topic in the general section because beautiful widgets is a very common application and is used by many people.
Earlier I was using a 3rd party task killer but with samsung app which is available in the latest version I thought that there is no need to use any other.
Anyone noticed when you clear RAM using Samsung task manager and select just "Level 1" even then it kill beautiful widgets and then the clock is just stuck at the time and it doesnt update.
Only workaround is to trash and add the widget again. Sadly samsung task manager doesnt even have option to add some apps to ignore. In that case its pretty much unusable!
I dont know if its as common as you may think. I have both the samsung task killer and beautiful widgets and it doesn't cause a problem for me.
I see the same problem. Would be nice to be able to exclude some apps/widgets that one never wants killed.
I do not have this problem awith buitifull widget. I have the problem with adw launcher.

replied to the wrong thread.. sorry..
Same here but after killing the widget is loading automatically. Also the menu is closed when the ram is cleaned.

I have installed a third party task manager now by rhythm software which seems to be good. Its sad though that the defailt manager doesnt have tje option to add apps o ignore list when every third party app seems to br having it.
I always used an task killer, now that i'm on jpk fw, i only use the integrated samsung taskmanager to kill programs that are running in the background, he's keeping himself at 230MB free memory at pretty much all time =/
Stable build while having +230MB free memory, never ever to be using a taskkiller again, cos you'll ruin the autoupdates from widgets and stuff, ofcourse..
Widgets are kept updated

With Froyo things would change. But since Currently there is no official update and the phone has Eclair there are RAM issues sometimes.
With 2.1 I saw the available RAm many times around +33MB and after dumping the processes maybe max 140MB and not without the expectable widgets update problems. Sooo, for the time being, live with it! ^^
Froyo will solve all these problems for you, they just have to polish it up a bit; making more use of the option-button than de current un-official build has.
