Nice!
Any chance you can show another with a closer view of your monitor?

[APP] IDEA!

I was wondering if someone can write me an app that will calculate 0-60 and 0-100 and 60-100 times for my car. It'd have to be sensitive thats for sure. But can it be done? Would also be cool if it could calculate braking times from userinput speed to zero. Also would be great if it had a slalom/lateral G reader and current speed. Anyone got anything like this?
gMeter. Check it out. It has some of what you're looking for. It's not freeware, but it's worth it! (It's like $5 I think).
Aye it does, but the most important thing im looking for is measuring the acceleration and braking times.
Pocket G-Force maybe?

World of Warcraft on Windows mobile!

This is the best game of all time now playing on windows mobile 6.1!
Unfortunately this is somewhat too good to be true. You can't use any function in the game that requires you to right click! This means you can't do some of the games most important functions like farm for herbs, minerals, etc, access the Auction House or the Bank, ride the gryphons for faster travel and every other function that requires you to right click. Also, the gameplay is slow on the phone where as it plays just fine on my computer.
You can do everything else in the game though. The ability to play this game is obviously only useful if you are traveling or out of your house somewhere and you want to grind to level up your character or talk to your online friends.
If you want to see a video of this in action just go to youtube and use the search engine there and you should find it.
Instructions coming soon!
I will be posting instructions soon on how I made this possible.
I want all the warcraft fans out there who enjoy playing this game to also be able to play this game on their windows mobile powered devices.
I also wanted to include the links to my youtube videos so you could see this in action. I tried finding the videos myself on youtube and could only pull one of them up in the search results.
Here is the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw73oDGdbkc
Part 2 of this video on youtube is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax0snZbCs2k
Note on video quality from youtube video
I also wanted to note that I realize the gameplay on my phone looks blurry for some reason on this video. The actual gameplay on my phone was not blurry so it must have come out like this due to my camera that I used. I didn't want all the viewers out there who watch this to think that when you play the game on your phone that it will be blurry because this is not the case!
is the secret trick called rdp, vnc, or remote touch?
lol. the secret is simply using a remote desktop application. You can clearly see that from the first 1minute of the video.
You can play ANY game if you do it like that. XD More impressive if you actually used the processing power of your portable device to run the game instead of to run a remote desktop application.
laaaammmme....ha, you have the same monitor as me (i think )

Indeed you are correct!
I knew it wouldn't be long until somebody from this website community figured out how I did this. I used remote touch to make this possible. For those of you out there who are not familiar with the website for this program it is as follows.

You are right this would have been more impressive if I had been able to do that but at this time in our world cellphones don't have the power to process that kind of data. I still think it was a good idea to post this information to show everybody that that game still can be played remotely through your desktop computer for travelers or people who are bored and have the free time to play the game when they are out of the house. I think it is better than not having the ability at all.
With some of the newer phones coming out to the market soon this will change and we will be able to launch the game and play it without using a remote desktop application. I estimate that within a year or two at the most there will be phones out there on the market that will be able to handle a game like world of warcraft.
Only can i say: LOL
Excellent! I don't think any network will provide enough allowance for month for remote desktop connections. It's still imaginative nonetheless. I wonder if it could run faster, however.
Never played WoW here, but I assume other games would work too. Just the speed lacking.

I had an unlimited plan earlier with turbo3g which I together with my phone earlier as a modem for my computer when i was out at the countryside. So that really shouldn't be a problem..

I have an unlimited plan on my phone so this shouldn't be a problem for me.
I realize that phone carriers offer their subscribers these unlimited data plans and they assume that the average subscriber will never surpass a secret amount of data allowance each month and the carriers are correct.
If these power users go over this secret data allowance the carrier will contact the subscriber and notify the subscriber that they must cut down on this unusually large data consumption or lose the unlimited data plan. I will have to test this theory out and play world of warcraft on my phone for one billing month and see if I surpass my carrier's secret data allowance and if I don't then we will know that this problem you have brought forth will not be a problem.
As to the issue of the game running faster, I agree this would be more enjoyable if the game ran faster. As I have already stated even though the image quality looks blurry in my video from youtube, I assure everybody the image quality is good. The game looks wonderful on my phone visually, not quite as clear as it would on a desktop or laptop computer but it still looks sharp and is exciting to see this on a phone.
The remote desktop application that I used to make this possible does have two settings, one for speed and one for quality. The speed setting does actually play the game faster which is good, but as a result distorts and loses some of the image quality to achieve this ability. The quality setting setting plays the game slower but makes the gameplay look cleaner and more attractive. I personally prefer to play the game on the speed setting and lose some of the beauty of the game's graphics so I can enjoy a faster gameplay.
The game does play faster on a stronger broadband connection like when I switch on wifi and the graphics on the game also look better along with the speed boost. So, the only way to fix the slow speed issue is to either wait until a phone comes out on the market that can play the game by itself without the remote desktop application or somehow play the game on a phone with an even faster broadband connection.
My estimates are that the LTE or Wimax enabled phones in the future will have the broadband strength to play this game wonderfully with no speed or image quality issues!!
Interesting video, although I do not play WoW, but if I did, I'd consider it if I were waiting at the dentists or walking to another class.

In that case, wouldn't it be easier to port Vista or Windows 7, then play WoW? Or is it not possible to play PC games on the touch version of those OS's?

I actually tried this with "logmein" and another remote app, but the wow screen was just black on my phone...so at least you got it working with this remote app...thanks for the tip
World of Warcraft now with Improved gameplay speed and FULL Functionality!!
This is a much improved version of the game this time with all my program, apps, utilities, etc. turned off on my phone. I'm running this game on a HTC Diamond so I especially need to note that TouchFlo 3D is turned off. I am running this game by using a program called Remote Touch and I have my phone connected to a wifi spot with a good signal.
This game is able to play on my Diamond for two reasons: The increased strength of my wifi connection and the fact that I have everything else turned off on the phone to preserve my phone's Program memory.
In case you are wondering, my phone has just under 156mb of Program memory available to run this game this smoothly and without too much lag and with a good wifi connection. I'm noting this in case anybody here wants to try playing this game on their phone and this is a good ballpark figure of memory the phone needs to have to play this with faster, smoother gameplay. This game can run on the Evdo connection speed however, the game plays slower and is not as enjoyable.
I also want to note that the game could look even sharper and more visually beautiful with better graphics because the Remote Touch application has two settings, one for a faster speed connection and one for a slower connection but with a better visual experience. I have posted seven new youtube videos that showcase all the games major vital functions every average player would want to have if they were to play this game on their phone and have included the links below for all who still care and have an interest with playing this game on their phone to check out.
These videos are using the faster but less attractive connection option. I also want to make sure everybody that sees these videos knows that I realize the screen is tiny and its almost impossible to press all your different attack moves, etc. on your action bars. The Remote Touch application has the ability to zoom in and out into any section of the screen that you want if you need to see your action keys better or more importantly to read the text from your online friends or the battle stats that get displayed and my videos show this.
One last thing I will note here is I originally was unable to do anything in the game that required a right click of the mouse such as mining, accessing the Auction House or Bank and etc. I recently discovered that if you hold the phone's stylus over whatever item, character, etc in the game that requires a right click for a few seconds without moving the stylus that acts as a right click. So now you can do everything in the game you would normally be able to do on your desktop or laptop computer!!
Here are my youtube video links:

You Jerk! Your comment was unnecessary and you know nothing about me!
Your ignorant and you think you have me pegged as one of the addicted gamers but this is not the case. If you are still reading this and don't believe me then check out the two jpegs of my lifetime hours of my two characters and you will see for yourself.
The next time you open your mouth and assume you know everything about someone, think again idiot!
Anything more than 20 minutes on WoW should be considered as an addiction.

Xoom as external monitor

I'm about to purchase a core i5 tiny pc to build a nice portable, full powered linux box. Does anyone know if I can use the Xoom as the primary monitor for this little box? I'm going for portability fitting the tiny pc & the Xoom + keyboard in my laptop bag. I've looked at iDisplay but it seems like it makes your android device a secondary monitor. I'm looking for something to make my Xoom the primary.

You could get LogMeIn Ignition or any of the other remote desktop apps and just remote log into the PC... this is assuming you'll be able to network them in some fashion.

Didn't even think about running it headless. I think that would work if they're not sharing an internet connection. I'm not sure it would work if i'm tethering the tinypc to my Xoom for internet connectivity, either way, I'll give that a try 1st. Might not need to buy anything. The only issues I can think of is the mouse, which would be connected to the tinypc and not my Xoom, i'm sure I could use my Xoom keyboard for typing. Time to experiment.
Let us know how this turns out, I'm very interested in your project. Might have something similar in planning soon.

Sounds like a interesting project. Keep us updated about your experiment.
In another thread someone wanted to know exactly the opposite - how to connect an external monitor and display something else than on the Xoom. There were some misleading references to an app called iDisplay which does what YOU want. So go to the market and check it out or search the forum for iDisplay. Good luck!

I wonder if it would be possible through USB? I wonder if it would be possible to take my PC with a tablet as a monitor to LAN parties some day. (much less to carry that way)

I'll definitely give iDisplay a look if it does what I need, I was under the impression that it only acted as a secondary monitor allowing you to extend an existing monitor but I would love to be wrong.
I will keep everyone posted once I get my minipc....

iDisplay is Windows and OS X only at this stage so it is a no go for the original request of Linux.
As far as speed goes, it is too slow to be usable to me on my Macbook Air 11" (1.4 Ghz dual core). It works in that the xoom shows up as a second screen and displays something. But the refresh rate is so bad (5-7 frames per second maybe) it is really only useful for static content. This may be the wireless access point I am connected to, which is distant enough that I am only getting 2 bars on the xoom with it. I have been meaning to try tethering the Air to the xoom to see if that performs better but I have not made time for it yet. Nor have I tried it with Windows yet.
I hope/assume the iPad version is better because I can not see anyone voluntarily purchasing and using it with the performance I am experiencing on Android.
Actually the speed has in this case nothing to do with your hardware. iDisplay is set somehow to only have a refresh rate of 12 fps. I was using it yesterday and my pc is an i7 with sli and stuff and the wireless router was right 1 meter in front of me but the speed was very lousy
Maybe they fix it somedays or at least give you more options to set the fps and the quality of the images.
For ipad users there is a similar app called air display. This one, so I read, has an fps set to at least 50. Much better than 12

Rendering Meshes, how many triangles are too many?

Hi,
I am experimenting with Mesh that I am filling in with colors.
I end up with 900 triangles that are have positions updated about 20 times per second.
On PC it works flawlessly, on my Nexus 4 its rather slow.
Is my code crap, or its too much to render real time?
Thanks!
Are your calculate the new position with the delta time (time between this and the last frame)?

Hi ,yes I use delta time, and the actual new positions are calculated fine for my triangles.
e.g if I put it as wire frames (outlines only) it renders quick enough.
But if I make them filled with color, all halts to grid
I thought 1st person shooter games do way heavier calcs, and seem to survive fine...
Mine item is more like a water simulation, and to look decent it needs about 800 triangles filled at least with solid
color no transparency... any hints please?

Behind the Scenes Update: September 2018

Hey everyone! I've been silent for a while for personal reasons. But we're at a point where things are about to heat up... literally!
Many things have changed since my last update, so I'll give a rundown of those changes here.
This should also help readers know where we're headed in the next 3 months for coverage, reviews and other content.
The Move
Most of you that read our articles may have seen some strange activity last month.
In a very condensed version, I am back in the US for the time being.
But due to the conditions of that return not all of the testing hardware made it back.
The test bench, power supplies, AIO cooler, Ryzen-G build and a 512 GB m.2 drive all stayed behind.
And yes, the PC-O11 Dynamic stayed behind as well.
The test bench has been replaced already with the plans that I had for a second.
It now uses the Lian Li PC-T70 instead of its predecessor. PSU is now 1000W, not 750W.
This will have relevance as we start digging into the new hardware we have.
HEDT CPU Update
I've been vocal at how I thought we didn't get enough of a look at high end desktop CPUs last year. And now, that goal is going to happen.
Thanks to help from AMD and Intel we now have a Threadripper 1950X and Core i9-7900X!
The Threadripper arrived first so it went in the test bench first.
After that I'm likely going to buy another PC-O11 Dynamic case out of pocket and finish that build with it and the Powercolor Red Devil Vega 56.
But if I want to run it and the 7900X at the same time, I think I need some more RAM as well.
There is no embargo on these so we can be a lot more interactive on this coverage.
At a minimum I'm going to start up a new thread for testing these. If readers want to add some ideas or request tests in particular, let us know!
GPU Update
I often look at our peers (other sites such as Phoronix) to help gauge if our benchmarks are accurate or not.
And what I'm finding is that we may want to re-think that. My performance results were far lower than expected.
I'm working on this right now while I'm working to source other GPUs that we don't have.
We're also hoping to be considered for the RTX 20-series when they come up for review. We'll share more on that when we can.
4K Testing and Stream Capture
I mentioned before that I'd like to stream more of our testing. I also needed some way to test in 4K.
Pengo has sent us a capture device for review. May try testing a stream this weekend to my personal Twitch account.
Steam on Linux - More games
We normally don't cover games, but there are exceptions.
The recent beta for Steam on Linux is one such reason. So expect us to look at it.
We'll want to know how games that didn't run before perform.
We'll also want to look at games we have used in benchmarks and how they perform in Linux native versus the new beta.
The results of this may have us change our testing methodology. So it's a good thing to look at.
Other Reviews Coming Up
We still have the ZOTAC Zbox and a mITX Intel motherboard from GIGABYTE to look at.
I'd like to do the mITX as a build suggestion with the Intel Core i5-8400 and the RX 580 we have handy. May work as a on-the-go build.
We have two new storage products from Intel to also look at.
Team Updates
You may have noticed that TK and @altimax98 are now joining in the coverage, as well as others on the news side.
Daniel (altimax98) is looking at a system from Dell and I'm looking forward to seeing what he found.
TK is helping me set up again for filming while he works on other content.
I want to thank all of our portal team members and you - our readers - for the continued support.
And by all means, please feel free to contact me here by PM or reply in this thread with any feedback!
