I was wondering if someone can write me an app that will calculate 0-60 and 0-100 and 60-100 times for my car. It'd have to be sensitive thats for sure. But can it be done? Would also be cool if it could calculate braking times from userinput speed to zero. Also would be great if it had a slalom/lateral G reader and current speed. Anyone got anything like this?

Aye it does, but the most important thing im looking for is measuring the acceleration and braking times.

Heh, the designer did prove the idea that people think of Apple's devices as being allmighty and all powerful. Anyone wonder how the iPhone knows to whose direction this 'anamorphic perspective rendering' should be rendered? Or how it knows to render towards the videocamera instead of the cameramans eyes? How to do this with multiple people?
Somebody actually did this with the Wii, as you can use the remote control to 'localize' yourself.

of course it´s a fake. how could the iphone detect moving itself around it´s own axis laying flat on the table? magical rotation sensor?

- How do you tell the observer's perspective?
- Can the Diamond's g sensor tell when its rotated on a flat surface? (The lightsaber app doesn't seem to register much - but I will admit thats far from empirical testing )

Maybe eye tracking using front camera?
using the wii VR demo, I experienced that the effect is reached best when the screen follows the head/eye movement instead of the other way around.

It would need a gyroscope. But i never imagine a cellphone whit a 3axis acc so just wait six months or so

It is not a fake. It is not magic. And no you don't need superduper hardware. It is actually working on iPhone, it assumes a fixed position of the viewer, that's why it works only for one viewer (at the correct angle). Read here about it: http://www.davidoreilly.com/blog/2008/08/ihologram-update/

LOL - that link says this....
The iHologram app was not real. It was an illustration of an idea I had which I believe could work with the technology (combining anamorphosis and motion sensing). Unfortunately I’m just an ideas person, and I can show how things should look, but I’m no hardcore programmer.
I’d be happy to collaborate with a developer or studio who want’s to make it happen, I’m bursting with ideas for the interactive world, but right now all my attention is on filmmaking.
My aim with this was to tackle the problem of 3d viewing in an original way using current technology, not fool anyone… so for those who doubted but still supported it, respect. I hope it inspires some talented programmers out there.

Thanks for the post, this is the way i assumed something like this could work.
In the 3d world, besides being on an axis, there are virtually unlimited points to perceive an object. This guys application simply assumes the user is watching from an axis perpendicular to the screen, which is how we as people usually look at any display.
This way, no matter how you tilt the phone, it can react accordingly to you looking down on it, with gravity below it.

Sorry but thats not even in the same league..
Today I have seen a seismographs application in iphone... A needle was continously writing the output coming from the acclerometer like those richter measuring seismographs.
And it was quite sensitive. Even if somebody walk in the room, you can see the changes in the seismographs. I really wanted to be able to write some code for wm but i can't... So maybe one of our you guys can be inspired by this and can write something similiar for this... I really like to play with these g-sensor programs...
I could not grab enough attention for the european users... So I try my chance one more time in the time zone where american users are mostly active...
A seismograph application... I don't think that it's that difficult... the code does even not to suppress the disturbance... Because actually it should be measuring the disturbance continuously...
I've also heard that it is a free app. for iphone... I don't know maybe the code of that program is somewhere available...

I could try making that app but could you post the link for the iphone version plz? out puting the sensors are kite easy for me atm but i don't imagine the relation bethen ms^2 and Mercalli scale. so yes the needle will will shake but i don't know what to put in the tag's

Basically you don't need to think about the unit conversion or any other... I mean as you see on iphone, it's something ver simple... Not scientific... No units... Just a scale on the "rolling paper"... Let's say the maximum disturbance is the limit of the paper and it's 3 times of gravity... A simliar UI would be really nice... Maybe you can also think of a logarithmic scale (which is the case for richter scale) then you can even show 6 G on the paper... it will not take so much place for the increasing gravity (i don't know what is the maximum output you can measure with the sensor inside)
It would be really nice to see such a thing...

DOn't make the mistake of making it simple, it will only be a laughing matter for the fanboys at work if you know what I mean. My point is, if you're going to copy, why not improve the idea right?

It works but you may want to search the forums for registry tweaks to optimise the GPS for pedestrian usage. Software I use - gpssonar (free), memory map (extortionate but good) and cachemate (shareware.)
Ask on the geocaching forums for other software recommendations.
Your battery will drain quite quickly so you may need to think about a back-up battery/charger if you are going to be out on foot for hours at a time, and you need to think carefully about the kind of terrain you will on. Do you want to risk dropping your Rhodium over a cliff or in a river bed? Do you want to test how well it survives a heavy downpour outside? Purpose-built GPS devices tend to be rugged and waterproof - plenty to think about there.
GCz is more than enough for my geocaching needs.
With the pedestrian tweaks the gps is fine, and i find it very precise. Never thought about the battery, because i usually do my "homework", so i know where to look, and only use the GPS only on a 20-30m radius around the cache.
The only thing im afraid, is dropping it or me falling together with the device, when climbing etc.
I'm using GeoScout for my geocaching on the Touch Pro 2, and I'm very satisfied with it.

It is a relatively simple idea, an app that allows you and your friends to connect to a "racing track" (Made on google maps) and for it to show your friends speed, distance in front of you and the remaining distance of the track.
I have not been able to find anything similar to this on the market. If anyone thinks this app would be useful/cool and wants to develop it please let me know.
I like thw way your thinking but this has sooo many flaws that would just not make it marketable.
Is this for being on foot? If so, not bad, but quite dull I imagine.
If its by car, then youre inciting speed, using a mobile whilst driving, and not paying attention to the road.
Maybe if you had a start position, and then the end position, plus the route was secret til tou reached certain checkpoint?

If you are talking about running, I believe CardioTrainer has a feature to race people around the world. I have not tried it out.
i think (hope) that dr_ownage it's referring to something like trackaroo but reference to your friends / anyone who use the app on the same track.
For example I used to record and post videos when "racing" in Monza Gp Track once a year; it would be good to see pals times in real-time while driving and "race" a little bit.
Sometime you are half a lap distant of your pal and no one wants to stop and wait for the others (yep we are competitive and we have payed fair enough to waste even a single second).
+1 for the idea, I could've helped (I'm a java developer) but I have my hands full with other projects.

It does not necessarily require the disregard of laws. You see there would be certain areas of road where the speed limit is far beyond what someone would/could reach around an uphill curvy road.
On google maps you can make routes could we use this predetermined route as our race track?
Could we display this map on the bottom half of the screen?
on the top half could we have rectangular boxes filling the screen in width displaying |driver name|current speed|distance in front|
eg.

I was thinking there should be an emergency button so if someone has a problem you can hit the button and their name on everyones screen would start flashing so people know to stop and wait.
Could the times and tracks be stored and recorded, for ghost racing (beat your own times or friends time without them been there)?
I dont think this app would mean you have to break the law it would just be a good way to go driving together in general. There are lots of roads where the speed limit is FAR above what you can reach around when your going uphill and around a corner.

I'm a Hikking fan, but with google Fit for example I have the distance that I have made and so one.
But one think is missing the elevation that I climb up and down.
The Nexus 5X have Barometer so it could do that?
I use another think to go in the trails and the phone keep in my pocket I only want an app that make my track with all elevation.
So I'm looking for something like Fit that runs with the phone locked and at the end give me all the data.
The Fit works perfectly I compared it with guys that use GPS dedicated to track and the distances are almost equals they only win with the registe of elevation.
I already research a lot but don't find nothing like I mentioned above.

I use oruxmaps. It's not integrated with fit, but it has good altitude resolution.
