SE has announced a new or rather a beefed up phone from the xperia Arc. It has 1.4 ghz processor and a new software upgrades like Facebook inside Xperia 2.0 and 3d pan shooting out the box....
So the question is whos buying Arc S?

Before someone starts throwing stuff out that "how can a flagship and not have blah blah blah" This isn't the arc's successor. Just another spin off of the arc and is meant for the holiday season for people who want variations. You will see some cool devices early next year ....

I'll be due an update by then. That sounds very tempting indeed.....
I'm not sure if android really needs dual core or not, I don't feel I need it right now, would be nice but its nit the be all and end all. I love the SE design and how there latest software looks and Facebook intration with a hdmi out which is something I'd like to try (big screen asphult 5 any body?!)
This could be what I'll update to, my faith is restored in SE I think.

If se do as they usually do, announce a phone january/february and then actually release it april/may that'll be perfect for when I'm due an upgrade. So bring on se's 3rd generation androids

I'd be mostly interested in knowing how a 1.4ghz single core copes VS a 1ghz dual core.

In January SE said there will be 2 flagships for 2011. So unless there's another phone coming this year, this is pretty much it.
Sad, really.
And the cool new devices will probably be dual core when everyone else is releasing quad core phones
Is this the same processor just pre overclocked?
It can already overclock to 1.92 GHz comfortably so I wouldn't be surprised if they did that..

I would LOL if it just had dooms kernal pre installed but only using some over clock and had a build.prop edit so they could claim the glory.
You have to admit it sounds impressive, espicially the camera that shoots 2d but works in 3d when connected to 3d tv. I really wanna get it

I love the design how similar to the x10 it is, absolutely georgeous. A lot of other androids I just don't find pretty. Also along with sonys new boot loader policy and Google's 'you have to update devices promptly' policy we wont have the same rocky journey we had with x10. Also I can see the hdmi out out being fun and with all the inline games and stuff android has I think this looks seriously promicing. I almost forget about the exmor r sencor for improved photos in bad lighting. I just don't see what there is to not like personally. Duel core, is it really nessesary for android at this very point in time, I don't think so. Also the Facebook integration and I gotta say I really like the new sony 2.3 ui. I think I'm sold lol

As for saying the arc will be outdated, that is pretty simplistic mate. It will only be considered outdated by a small minority of power users, if it does what you need it to then specs mean little.
How exactly will you personally guarantee anything?

Hey guys!
I'm planning to buy a new phone in 2 weeks ..
I'm confused between these two .. Xperia Arc S and Sensation XL ..
Any recommendations or guidance from the users of these phones
What i like about the XL :
Massive 4.7" screen
Easier to touch-type
Beats audio
What i like about the Arc S :
Sharper screen (233 ppi) despite the small size (4.3"), comparing to the XL's 4.7" and (199 ppi)
The cool looks !
The upcoming official ICS will look great on the that phone
Both processors are fast .. 1.4 and 1.5
Taking into account that I lOVE the new ICS look and i'd love to have it on my next phone .. While i can only have it on the Arc S because of CM support .. And i don't know how to get that look on the Sensation XL because of the lack of suport and the too little ROMs availablity
By what you said, get Arc S, or wait a little more for Xperia S. Both will get ICS until june. Arc S is going to get stable CM9 soon, and I'm sure there will be some guys from FreeXperiaTeam (who work with CM in 2011 Xperia devices) working ASAP on Xperia S.

You ask that question in an Xperia Arc forum? Are you dumb or something?
i had just pick up an arc a month ago..i just take it primarily because of it good looks other than that sony promise of official ice cream samndwish and a remote chance that the arc get Playstation store outside of japan..
but i don't see if both arc and sensation gonna be relevent by the 3rq quarters of this year.as i change phone every year, the arc fits the time frame..but if u wanna kept your phone lots longer, get a dual core
I'd say Arc S
Has a micro sd slot which the XL doesn't have.
If the XL had dualcore I'd go with that but it hasn't and 100Mhz are no difference.

+1 to arcS... HTC is too expancive... What are you paying for? Half of inch? Wright question is arcS or Sensation XE... Dual core, great display, Beats Audio... And looks great to. I would prefer SE because I am a BIG fan of it... And you can go to the store, take both of them in yor hands and decide...
Seems like the Arc S is a winner for me. The charisma and charm of this phone is irresistible. However, I'm considering the upcoming Xperia S too .. Just Hoping it won't be too expensive
this HTC comes with a internal 16G memory and 768 MB ram - these are more critical factors for performance. correct me if i am wrong?
Ok, RAM is a big plus.
But for me the 16GB non-expandable memory (?) are too less, so no-go. I have ~23GB on my phone.

I read somewhere, and it has been an "aaaaah yeah..." moment for me,
that we shouldn't compare SE phones with Samsung and HTC phones.
They are not at all about the hardware or the Android version.
They fill in the gap between the people who are hardcore users and spec enthusiasts and those who have no idea about smartphones.
They are targetting people who are OK with having a really beautiful phone, advanced camera function and good hardware, not necessarily top-of-the-top.
And even though XDA forums are normally not a place for such people, you can't deny the very existense of such target group.
Seeing it like this, you can understand why they haven't joined the hardware race that Samsung and HTC are running atm.

I was tempted by Note because of it's size and power etc. as I could eventually get one for free,
but this device is NOT impressive.
The screen - again - looks like oversaturated **** and the UI is actually disgusting.
I quit after 5 minutes of playing with it.
BTW the performance when just fiddling with it was actually mediocre.
Xperia S is worth wait, as far I have seen after AOSP Sony has one of the best UI and they aren't in the race for great hardware spec like other which just made Dual core devices without software support for it. Sony waited to release dual core when it's necessary i.e. As far as I know ICS is optimized for Dual core. So when they started rolling out ICS update they started to make dual core devices. But if you looking to brag about the spec then sure go for SGS 3 that might out
My 2 cents

Obviously I cant but what i'm saying is that Sony are just releasing the same phone over and over again only improving MINOR things.
I thought a surprise would be a completely new phone with a QUAD CORE processor and 4.8'' screen like the Samsung Galaxy S3.
When are we gonna see MAJOR changes ?

Sony wouldn't do that as they don't have enough marketing influence to sell something like that

No its an awesome timing, I prepared myself asking htc's customer service before even buying one x few days back, they admitted n said all this problems were in april and old imported date handsets, and all have been taken back.. and the issues are fixed in the new ones being imported. I purchased the may imported handset, no wi-fi issues not even one point dropped sitting little far in other room and in low battery aswell, no banding problems, no flickering screen, no signal drops, nothing! . Played all the apps in it... it works BooOoOomMMmm!!
I'm envious. I like the One X design after the arc's. And I'd definitely take it over the Samsung Galaxy S III.
Could never get used to their ugly TouchWiz interface.

True. Don't know why anyone would need a quadcore phone. The single core intel processor beats most of the dual/quad core phones. Too bad that's its bootloader is locked.
@Galileo,
It's just a sign how far technology and miniaturisation has come. Prices have dropped drastically.
A few years back, this would have unimaginable. A few years back, the Samsung Jet was being hailed as the fastest phone whizzing away at 800MHz. It's laughable now.
Plus, it's all that computing power in the palm of your hands. Computers are not able to compete in terms of portability offered by a phone. (I'm not talking about productivity, just portability). It's small enough to slip into your pocket.
From here on, developers are going to optimise their apps to utilise the multi-core CPU. A few years down the line, I'm pretty sure everyone will have moved to dual-core and beyond.
@finch.****break,
Intel core? For our arcs? LOL! What have you been smoking mate?

you just know the way to go would be to make a handset you could make yourself or have custom made, just like a pc upgradable components like ram, cpu ,graphics card screen, camera maybe different kinds of os like one for gaming one for business etc. but in reality you wont get that until way down the line if at all , just minor upgrades to sell more handsets and make more money, we can but dream.
I have arc lt15i and love it.was looking to get xperia ion when it goes international if it goes ever, but i'm thinking to stay with my arc till some better sony phones come's out, every year they have newer phones. So i'll stick to arc for now.

bye bye :d :fingers-crossed::good:
Hey guys, looking for some advice. I bought an arc s about 4 months ago to replace my dying x10i and I've been very happy with it, however it's starting to feel a bit dated and I don't know what would be a good upgrade. I have an excellent sim only contract so would like to buy a handset upfront, but I don't want to spend silly money.
I have installed ics and really like the experience, however the occasional lag is quite annoying. I think I just want a decent handset with more ram really, but I think a galaxy s2 would be equally dated in another 4 months.
I just bought an iPad 3 and really enjoy how nippy it is, I've been considering moving over to iPhone for my next phone..lout would have to wait and see what comes out this fall.
I dunno....maybe I just need to be patient but though I would check I'm not missing some super secret , perfect phone I haven't seen yet! Would. A Sony Xperia P be a good replacement for an arc s? Seems almost the same specs but double the ram... Thoughts?
Well as you are now forever locked into Apple as a single hardware supplier for your tablet, are you prepared to buy separate apps for your phone?
If so, then I would look at the Xperia S... If you aren't, then sell your iPad3, buy a decent Android tablet and a Xperia S.
My brother purchased an iphone4, i asked him if he new he would be restricted with apps, roms and hardware, he said yes its not a problem for him. Hes now wanting to be shot of it, every update destroys his jailbreak and it eats into his time putting it back again. In short he now wishes he hadn't gone down the apple route, although both he and i agree its a nice bit of kit just a bit restricted if you like fiddling and playing with software i guess. Each to their own i suppose. I think his main gripe is with the constant use of i tunes software for his films and movies. I rather like the look of that new hyabusa ? Very much Arc looking but slightly more updated specs, not sure it will be near top of the pops still when its launched here but that's never really bothered me as long as it does what i want it too alls good and rosey. More ram and dual core with a bigger screen will have to see how it sits in the hand. I picked up the SGS II last year and for me it didnt feel good in the hand so left it there i know my arc isnt bleeding edge far from it, butt eh screen is decent and it is comfortable, hope the hyabusa feels the same just hope it doesnt come with too high a price tag.
Well I'm quite happy with the stock ipad experience and quite happy to do the majority of my app purchases for gaming etc on that platform.
For my mobile, I don't play games or watch movies often... It's mostly Facebook, messaging, browsing etc. I know I could make do with a midrange phone for that but I like to be upto date and have a fast user experience. The xperia s feels a little too big when I've used it and I worry it will be the usual Sony affair and not be as fast as it should be with those specs.

Well I don't have an Xperia S, but I have played with a entry level XPeria U, and it's Lightening fast, so much faster than my Xperia ARC S, which seems to be hobbled by too little RAM.

Errr okay, I'm not a woman. Thanks for that sexist comment though. I love tinkering with android and really don't see the point in having an iPad AND an iPhone, it's nice to have the best of both. All I'm concerned about is getting a decent upgrade which will last me.
How can it be that the Xperia U is faster than the S? That's not reassuring...often phones feel nippy when new and nothing installed. Or maybe the S will improve with ICS? I am considering getting an S as I could grab one for around £200

Errr okay, I'm not a woman. Thanks for that sexist comment though. I love tinkering with android and really don't see the point in having an iPad AND an iPhone, it's nice to have the best of both. All I'm concerned about is getting a decent upgrade which will last me.

The remark is basically inspired from what I have seen with my wife... She's a technology illiterate and iPhone did the trick for her. She had a decent android phone which basically "never worked right", regardless of updates etc. IPhone is a dumbed down version of android with no possibility to customize, with pretty eye candy, sold at a premium price ... IPad is the big brother... You catch my drift ... I just can't believe you spent money on an iPad ... But that's just me and nothing personal ...

no problems fella. I just spent the last few hours unlocking my bootloader, changing the baseband, flashing a new kernel and loading arconium v2 onto my Arc S. Feeling pretty smug as I haven't done anything more than root a phone before... the phone is truely flying! Should last me another few months now.
Hurrah!

Sorry, typo, missed out the ARC bit..
The Xperia U feels REALLY fast compared to my ARC S
But then it's got a low-res display, so it's less for the GPU to drive, perhaps???? It's also Gingerbread not ICS....

I suggest you to try JJHIBRID ROM. I was about to sell my arc S but when I tried this rom, I decided it will be good for another half a year.

If you are a woman who has no time or need for Android development, who has no idea about hardware and wants something stable, buy your iPhone now and never look back... Android will not satisfy you, Xperia S, NXT whatnot ....

That was down right sexist. Don't judge the whole mankind by one example. I'm a girl and would never sell my soul to the devil (read: Apple). Love Linux (Mint) and Android, and I'm quite an average ROM and kernel flasher.

JJ's Hybrid ROM 3.2 was a fresh new beginning for my S-less arc. I'm not your average rich person who changes phones every 2 weeks, but I wouldn't even think about selling my arc if it wasn't for the super bad quality of the housing (cracks, etc.).

No it wasn't sexist... .... It is not only one example that runs blind behind the stupid iphone bandwagon... Did you miss the pink otter boxes being sold everywhere for that precious iphone? You are or seem to be an exception...

I see more Samsungs and HTCs, with a bit of Sony (Ericsson) here and there. Apple might aim the female buyers, but it's far from being woman's only phone-friend. And I see you're from the States - the weird part of the world full of parents who buy their 4 yo an iCrapper to play with. I've always found US Americans super weird people.

Truth be told I know plenty of guys, in military, flying attack helicopters, and drooling over iphones... Best they could do is jailbreak it and change the toolbar color... Whoop de doo... I played with my wife's 3gs... Simplified crap. I merely have Sony because all I own consumer electronics wise is Sony... Arc is an ok phone. But even with ion they are behind the power curve... If I were you I'd use that arc with their latest GB... Heck come up 250 bucks I can sell you my arc S. They fixed the Crack issue with arc S... Mine is brand new though
