Lapdock compatibility withering? - Atrix 4G General

I managed to snag a lapdock from amazon for 200$, got it today, and man has it been a headache.
it seems that both alien and cherrypie have put so much into their webtop over hdmi hacks that they caused a few issues with the lapdock.
Personally, every time I try to use it, the phone doesnt recognize it as a lapdock, it recognizes it as a monitor and keyboard. Touchpad doesnt work, USB seems inop, totally annoying, I'm still trying to figure out a way to revert to stock deodexed files so I can get around this.
I'm also finding that I can't for the life of me fix webtop2sd. multiple roms, busybox downloads and placement, all of it seems to just elude me. I had it working once on alien #4, then I couldn't boot past bootloader after applying the volume mod, which somehow is listed as a "dock fix" on the rom thread, but only caused more incompatibility problems (purely refused to go into webtop)
I really hate the thought of reverting to a stock rom, hell, i consider it not an option, has anyone else encountered this issue? I feel like the lapdock hasnt spread enough for people to voice these issues.
Edit- Testing a few more things to make sure the roms and hacks are at fault, seems like the smart thing to do before going through the trouble of making zip packages to revert stuff
will post findings
Edit 2 - So I went through the trouble of making HDMI hack reverting zips for CWM (PM me if you'd like it just in case) but it seems like things just work on cherrypie now, no modding, nothing
Edit 3 - And now webtop2sd works again too.....what in hell....okay then
in case anyone else has similar issues and wants to try to redo what i did
wipe data -> wipe dalvik -> fruit cake att 2.3 -> reboot and use -> cherrypie

New Sprint Rom Is Here ???

New sprint rom?? http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10293&page=3
http://download.america.htc.com/RUU_...PL106_Ship.exe
It's been confirmed. That is the new official ROM for Sprint. It fixes the Bluetooth issues among others. No Rev. A or GPS of course, but that was expected.
question is, is this really "better" than the alltel rom that has been available for a long time already over at PPCgeeks...
The alltel rom fixed the BT and alarm problem as well. I'm excited to see that Sprint finally caught up, but I'm wondering if this is better than the setup I currently have.
Well I for one am happy and upset.. I would like to see REV A , as I need the faster upload speeds for sending big files from my 4gb micro sd.
I havent tried the Alltel rom, but the new sprint rom fixes the keyboard lag + wm6 responsiveness problems.
After reading all of the threads over at PPCGeeks, it seems like there are some mixed results on the ROM (to be expected I guess, you can't appease everyone.)
-Most are reporting the BT fix worked correctly.
-I didn't see anyone say that the Alarm fix didn't work
-People are reporting that the OS seems a little faster and better at managing memory, such as reclaiming more when you close an app, etc.
-The radio version on the Sprint ROM is 1.47, compared to 1.40 of the Alltel, some were reporting better reception between this one and the stock rom (1.32 I believe)
-the most widely spread issue I saw was that some users were having issues with their dpad not working. At first, someone pinned it down to sprinttv, as it worked after they removed it, but then others said that the problem returned.
-YMMV, but some reported that when they skipped the sprint customization of the rom (when it starts initially, after the 3 second delay where you can soft reset) it caused issues on their phone. One person said that a workaround for this was to let it install EVERYTHING initially, and then do a hard reset and skip the customization process. It makes sense that if it were something with the EXTRom that it might put something in there that you needed, but again, not sure on this one.
-I can't believe how many people were stuck on the idea that they would be able to use Sprite Backup or SPB Backup to restore all of their stuff. Let me say this again, because I don't think it can be said enough. Unless you are just restoring folders such as your documents or something non-system related, you CANNOT use these programs. You WILL overwrite the new files with the old ones, causing a boatload of issues, if it even works at all. So don't do it, or you will cause yourself some headaches. Activesync remembers the apps you have installed, so just sync afterwards and click the boxes. For your other stuff such as contacts, back those up with a contact backup app or sync with outlook if you've got it.
just my two cents.

i took the plunge yesterday, i skipped out on all the sprint customization and everything turned out ok....haven't tested bluetooth yet but everything you said seems to be on point...

Just to clarify this is part. A hard reset will completely erase any carrier customizations there is absolutely no reason for installing extrom, hard resetting then skipping. Just start out with the hard reset, skip customizations and you'll be good to go.
Although there are still the other bugs with the update =)
Just installed it a while ago, skipped the sprint customizations, everything seems to be running good and actually noticeably quicker than before. New startup screen is cool too, no problems thus far =)
do yourself a favor and wait for the next rom. If you didn't already experiance it, your device will lock up and go to sleep requiring a soft reset...very unusable. and BT will turn off after a few minutes randomly.
load the colonel's rom on, it's much better imho
Seems to only happen to some people though. I have had my phone on pretty much straight since the rom update.
there seems to be a major bluetooth issue where the BT just shuts off periodically.. Not sure how,but they found a way to make bluetooth even worse!
I can't carry on a conversation without BT shutting off on me.. (or use the gps without it shutting off/etc..)

I haven't updated yet, plan to over the weekend, but I would suggest anyone having problems to stop and consider their setup first...
1. What programs are installed that could cause problems?
2. What registry hacks have been done that may cause problems?
3. What configuration settings might need reset that may cause problems?
For example, after a hard reset, Enhanced Network over USB is enabled by default, and this often causes Active Sync to have issues. Likewise, power management tweaks will have reverted to defaults and you may like a more finely tuned setup.
As for memory leaks being better/worse, you may have programs installed that are out of date/buggy.
I realize it's easier to jump on the "this sucks" bandwagon, but it doesn't help you or other users with legitimate problems when no consideration is given to what is causing a given problem.
These situations are precisely why the instructions tell you that EVERYTHING will be erased. This is a good thing since it forces you to clean house, but it also means you have to pay attention to those things you often neglect or may have changed ages ago and forgotten.
Finally, if all else fails, try the ROM update again. Sometimes things go wrong.
Sorry if this seems like a rant, I just want people having issues to place blame where it truly belongs. After considering these matters, if you still have problems, definitely let HTC and the rest of us know.
Best Regards,
Aaron

My experience is as simple and "vanilla" as it gets:
-Loaded new ROM
-Hard reset
-Stopped customizations
-Installed NO apps, did not turn on BT, made no calls, did nothing else
-3 DSODs in 4 hours
-Did a second flash (from a second computer with a freshly downloaded ROM)
-Hard reset
-Allowed customizations to run
-Again no apps, BT or calls
-DSOD within an hour

Sounds atypical to me, given that most users are updating without issue and experiencing better results. I have no reason to doubt your experience though... it sounds like you have faulty hardware, but here's a download link to the previous firmware if you're interested in trying it out first:
http://www.htcamerica.net/support/mogul/software-downloads.html
No, "most" users are not experiencing better results. I've been using this ROM with poor results, as have many others. Read this thread for many sad tales of woe:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10302
Basically, the new ROM does fix a bunch of things, but breaks others, so I would not recommend installing this ROM.
1) Locks up when changing from Sprint to roaming. You can test this by manually switching from Sprint to roaming and back a few times, you WILL get a phone lockup.
2) BT turns off randomly for many users.
3) Turn on BT, let unit sit for a few minutes until it goes to sleep, turn unit back on, dpad no longer works. I have seen this myself many times.
Don't install this update --- use the Alltel ROM or wait for another update.

1) You're incorrect in stating that most users have no problems, etc. Some do, some don't. Read the posts at ppcgeeks, pdaphonehome, BAW, hofo. I am not at all alone in having problems.
2) I downgraded 2 days ago, and my Mogul runs fine again - just exactly like it did for the 1st 3 months I had it. It's not my hardware! It's a bad ROM release.
Not everyone uses the phone in the same way at all. So of course some people will not see the same problems that others do.
If you never use Bluetooth and never roam, then this ROM will work for you. Otherwise, it will cause problems. For me, Bluetooth works much better in 2.09, and I rarely if ever see lockups as I have with 2.16. So, I'm going with 2.09 for now. The alarm problem IS fixed in 2.16 but I never use alarms on my phone so it's not an issue for me. Freezes when roaming ARE a problem.

is colonels rom built on the alltel core rom? if so it may be our best bet as of now.

Anyone Else Tempted to Go Back to v3.01?

Is anyone else here tempted to go back to HC v3.01?
One of the main things I do on my A500 is watch downloaded videos, and I encounter quite a few problems with that on HC v3.1 that I never encountered on HC v3.01. MoboPlayer just flat out no longer works on my device -- I get nothing but unrecoverable lock-ups and force-closes. RockPlayer is still working (thankfully), but not in hardware mode. Even the stock video player can't play any of the files that I previously could.
Everything else that came with HC v3.1 is enough behind-the-scenes that I just don't notice it or it has no real world benefit for me. In other words, I definitely wasn't missing any of it back when I was running HC v3.01. I'm just not seeing any real world benefit to the v3.1 upgrade -- I'm only seeing negatives. I'm very tempted to go back.

Had none of these issues. Maybe reinstall your player apps onto the new platform, especially since MOBO should prompt you to download a specific codec pack... other than that, maybe let us know what formats you're using so we can give more precise info.

I deleted/reinstalled both RockPlayer and MoboPlayer, but no joy. I even factory reset my A500, and then after basic configuring only installed Mobo and the exact same issues occurred.
I'm attempting to play xvid files that worked just fine using MoboPlayer, RockPlayer, and the stock player on stock HC 3.01, but they just wont play on stock HC v3.1. For me, this is a HC v3.1 dealbreaker.
Edit: Just got notified of 4.010.10 gen2, downloaded it, updated, and things are now working a lot better. A little quirkiness was going on in both RockPlayer and Mobo, but it went away when I deleted both apps and reinstalled. Since that update, the stock player works fine on these same xvid files again.
Maybe I'll stick with HC v3.1 after all! (unless the next incremental breaks it again like the 4.010.8 gen1 did)
I had the opposite experience. Videos that would not play smoothly in 3.01, now play great in 3.1. The only issue I am having with 3.1 is the dropping WiFi, but hitting the reset button seems to be solving that for now.

When you say "solving" does that mean you have to do the reset thing regularly?
(It may just be a syntactic difference, but if it was fixed, I'd have said "solved it for now". "Solving" implies an on-going condition of fix and re-fix)(Genuine question - I'm not commenting on your use of English)
To the OP:
I have no intention of letting my A500 update to 3.1. I've seen waay too many posts of bugs and faults in it.
OK, the rooters and rom flashers all say to root and delete this and do that.. I say you shouldn't HAVE to root and delete to fix the update's errors!.
Nope, me = 3.01 for now. I'll see what 3.2 might be like..
I will not never and ever go back to 3.0.1 for 1 pure main reason
USB support of my camera... I plug and the gallery popup and can transfert the files directly without thinking something else... (I hope we will have some kind of create folder by date or else...)

I have to pretty much agree -- I have seen more problems than benefit. With the latest incremental update things seem to be working a lot better, but I am worried about what the next incremental update could break.
I didn't see much of a purpose in updating my HTC Evo 4G phone from Froyo to Gingerbread either. I immediately went back to a Froyo based ROM until the same ROM dev came out with a custom Gingerbread ROM. These OTA's from the manufacturer aren't always the gold and jewels everyone anticipates.

I never had two much of a problem hosting my Pentax DSLR camera on HC v3.01. It was sometimes slow to discover it, but then I started using the USB Mount All app everything USB was discovered quickly.
I'm still not 100% happy with my video performance on v3.1. It's much better with 4.010.10 gen2, but it's still not as good as it originally was with v3.01.
I was experiencing major issues with the Wifi after the update as well. It was really annoying.
So last week I tried a bunch of things. What worked for me was to set the wifi to turn off when the screen was off. Now, if I am still downloading things it stays connected with the screen off. Also, I still hear the notification sound when an email comes in even if the tablet has the screen off and nothing running. Its been one week and I haven't noticed a difference between it being on or off with the screen. I haven't had to reset the tablet nor have I had to delete any files. It runs perfecto mundo and doesn't drain any extra battery. Last night I lost about 8% overnight. Just something to try out.
No way I would ever go back lol. Using full keyboard and mouse with RDP makes this tablet take advantage of the speed and power of powerful desktop at home. ANd using the HoneyVillain ROM everything runs so well and smooth including all my videos.
In a word, no. I'd never go back. 3.1 has been great all around.

When making a post like this, it's a good idea to just throw the build you're on out there. I for one have no issues with 3.1. I never had issues with the first build that came and I am not having issues with the recent build seeded yesterday. I use Moboplayer as well.
Did you do any sort of modding? ie: Did you get 3.1 or 3.0.1 unofficially through XDA or are you/have you been running completely stock? There must be some reason user A. is getting one result and B. another - if it's not faulty hardware then it's faulty software. However, you said you factory reset. The last thing I can possibly think of is that you modded and it's messed with the system somehow or there really is some faulty hardware.
I'm running 4.010.10, I came from 4.010.08. I've been running stock from day 1. I've never rooted, nor installed any ROMs or mods (wifi supplicant, etc.) from XDA and as I mentioned, no trouble at all.

So what you're saying is you have wifi set to go OFF when the screen is off but it stays ON?
And that's not something anyone considers to be a bug (regardless of if it helped your wifi stay on or not)???

[Q] Apps corrupted, force closing?

My duaghter has an A500 I bought her for xmas, but I was "testing" it for about a month prior to that. Up until now it hasn't had any issues.
The tab is stock GEN2 pre-rooted with latest Thor kernal.
I picked her up this weekend and she told me she couldn't open a bunch of apps. After playing around with it, I found that around half or more of the apps installed would force close when trying to open. I tried formatting cache and rebooting and it didn't make a difference. The only fix I found was to uninstall the apps one by one and reinstall them. A lot of work, but the tab seems to be working fine now.
Has anyone else experienced this, or can at least give a hint as to why this might have happened?
there are alot of things that can go wrong..
i would UNROOT IT Before giving it back to her..Android is not immune from Rogue software.
all it takes is one app to change a ui setting Overclocking.. Can cause Currupt data. same as on a pc.. ITS A VERY Loaded question as to what causes it . Maybe unroot the tablet before you give it back to her..
who knows for sure..
Yeah, I figured it could be about a thousand different things that caused it; was just curious if anyone else had this problem before on their A500.
There are a few apps I have on the tab that need root, so I don't really want to unroot it. She doesn't put any apps on it without asking "dada's" permission first (no net at her house anyway).
We'll see if it happens again. I really don't feel like messing with it too much right now with ICS around the corner.

just flashed EOS nightly - a few questions please.

Hi all,
I have a UK 16gb Nexus, which I rooted a few days ago. I finally caved in and installed the Team EOS jellybean nightly latest versions, all installed fine, and at least now TWRP install sticks unlike on the stock rom, when I'd have to reinstall it every time.
Anyways, I have a few issues, I suspect these are possibly already known, workarounds etc, but hope some can confirm. Unfortunately as a low poster I can't post the main queries onto the main rom thread yet
1) I noticed that whilst my tablet was originally on JR003D after taking the 4.1.1 update, EOS uses JR003C. Is there any reason for that?
2) Face unlock doesn't work. It just says Face Unlock couldn't start. googled and saw some comment on that not working for another phone device, so presume its the same on all EOS tablets?
3) Transformers 'free' movie rental. While I'm not overly bothered by this, would like to fix if theres an issue due to it later down the line. I read that movie rentals won't work on rooted phones. That being said, I could have swore I remember trying the rental successfully shortly after the main root, before flashing the custom rom, and it loaded fine....Is this fixable at all?
4) I have the 'tablet statusbar' set, as much prefer the 'back' button in the lower left, and the time etc on the same line. To me, the big menu button that takes you to apps, looks a bit odd and large. Is there any way to either merge it to the main task bar screen, or maybe shrink it a bit
5) Is it possible to add the airplane mode shortcut onto the pop up when you click the time area? (like my ICS Xoom is?)
6) I have yet to find the iplayer v1.3 apk, but presume I'll also need to install Flash too, or is this already loaded?
Thanks guys (and gals),
Tuck
For face unlock.
1. Unplug USB/charger cable
2. Disable face unlock - Use anything else
3. Re-boot
4. Set up face unlock
5. It should then work
However the moment you plug in the USB cable it will bork again so I've just chosen not to use it until it gets fixed.
thanks....I'll leave it for now too then. The face feature was prob more a novelty for myself than anything else.
Only other main issue, other than the few needed tweaks, I'm having with this rom is game compatability now.
Where's My Water v1.6.0 was working fine on the stock rom (rooted and unrooted), but now black screens on this rom
scrap that about Where's My Water game, managed to get it working a different way now

Anybody still in here?

So I just (possibly stupidly) picked up a mint Thrive 10" from my local Goodwill for $17. All I really need it for is a basic shop tablet to use in the garage for playing music, and pulling up how-to's (youtube/etc), service manuals, etc.
The problem I'm running into is threefold:
1. There are multiple resources I'm finding that absolutely won't work on anything older than ICS. Youtube is one. Not any version of app, browser, nothing. And the highest Android version the Toshiba servers will give me is 3.2.1, not even ICS. Which isn't surprising after hearing that release was notoriously troublesome, I suspect maybe they pulled it down(?)
2. The vast majority of links and/or development projects I'm finding are long dead/abandoned.
3. Also, I'm admittedly a bit of a noob when it comes to rooting/flashing/etc Android devices
If at all possible, I'd like to skip ICS altogether and go straight to JB.
I found this walkthrough, but links are all dead --> https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-12-flashable-zip-works-with-any-rom.1918679/
I also snooped around pio's github, but struggling to make heads or tails of everything there.
Can anyone give me a hand?
Welcome!
I was an early adopter, and was pretty active on the original Thrive forum. A few months ago Tune In stopped working, and I found this forum. For me, I use it for streaming internet radio.
I found this post particularly helpful, with an updated list of apps that work - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/toshiba-thrive-apk-pack-4-0-4-updated-for-2022.4408151/
Spotify still works for me...but I got an e-mail from them saying support would end in a few weeks (mid January 2023).
Since Tune In app stopped I was able to use the links to load working versions of Firefox - then go to fmstream.org and pull up some of my favorite radio stations which play through VLC
A couple apps not on the list that still work are Radio Box (WXPN works!) and Radar Express
Many, many years after my original purchase I found a dock pretty cheap, so it sits on a bookcase near the stereo, where it's hooked up.
Look, it's even cheaper now! https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-PA3934U-1PRP-Thrive-Multi-Dock-Tablet/dp/B004YIFOP0
(Edit: I just remembered why I got the dock - these had particularly wonky audio input connections, the dock solves this since it has it's own Audio output).
At the very least, for $17, the screen saver clock is nice!
@BPD99 thanks for the reply and the links, particularly the dock on Amazon. Already have one on the way!
I've unfortunately realized that my Thrive is suffering from what I suspect to be system level issues.... Like memory not releasing, index files not clearing, etc. There are several apps cumulatively retaining artifacts despite me clearing app cache and data, etc. I've already done multiple factory resets but the issues keep re-emerging. I think my only option to resolve these issues is to wipe it and start over, but I'm not 100% on the procedure step by step without bricking it. Also, I'm debating whether I'd ideally want to stick with the stock 3.2.1 image, or try to figure out if I could get pio's 4.1.2 image on it. Can anybody walk me through either way?
I wish I remembered how to install a ROM - I did find this, looks like basic instructions are similar from what I remember:

Rooting and flashing new ROM used to involve connected to PC, I think I remember using the SD card the last time I flashed a ROM.
I had issues with my Thrive after 5-6 years of daily use, then it wouldn't boot. I bought the same device on eBay, but with a broken screen and changed out the brains (I can't remember which part exactly...maybe I need a new brain!).
The dock is great, since I retired mine from business use, that's where it sits.
Do you play guitar? There are still some chord/tab apps on the play store that work.
I also have "MyRemote for Android" set up to operate Windows Media Center (if you want to go further back to 2010!) - https://sites.google.com/site/myremoteandroid/

Just wanted to drop an update- I was able to piece together enough old links, file resources and tools/utilities that I was able to get this thing rooted, custom recovery and rom installed. It is now running JellyBean glitch free and faster than ever. So for anyone looking to accomplish this on one of these it is still possible
I'd say the only issue I have now is that the rom I got doesn't have a file manager. Anybody who can chime in with a suggestion please do
Congrats!
Total Commander?
It still works on 4.0.4, so might be worth a try.
