My duaghter has an A500 I bought her for xmas, but I was "testing" it for about a month prior to that. Up until now it hasn't had any issues.
The tab is stock GEN2 pre-rooted with latest Thor kernal.
I picked her up this weekend and she told me she couldn't open a bunch of apps. After playing around with it, I found that around half or more of the apps installed would force close when trying to open. I tried formatting cache and rebooting and it didn't make a difference. The only fix I found was to uninstall the apps one by one and reinstall them. A lot of work, but the tab seems to be working fine now.
Has anyone else experienced this, or can at least give a hint as to why this might have happened?
there are alot of things that can go wrong..
i would UNROOT IT Before giving it back to her..Android is not immune from Rogue software.
all it takes is one app to change a ui setting Overclocking.. Can cause Currupt data. same as on a pc.. ITS A VERY Loaded question as to what causes it . Maybe unroot the tablet before you give it back to her..
who knows for sure..
Yeah, I figured it could be about a thousand different things that caused it; was just curious if anyone else had this problem before on their A500.
There are a few apps I have on the tab that need root, so I don't really want to unroot it. She doesn't put any apps on it without asking "dada's" permission first (no net at her house anyway).
We'll see if it happens again. I really don't feel like messing with it too much right now with ICS around the corner.

is it just me or is the market running very slow in froyo?
This message was deleted by its author
any ideas why?
Check your logs, it's the usual socket timeout issues, like when you switch for a new Android phone... it should disappear very soon (I had it for an hour earlier)
it was working for me, but now things are downloading and not installing... they just sit there at 100%...
I can't say I notice Market being slow but this is really pissing me off... I bought bTunes and a couple other apps and Market has them marked as Buy as if I don't own them.
WTF.
I'm getting that too, bTunes says Buy, but a lot of other protected apps just don't show up! Is this happening for everyone?

Good call... MLB At Bat is MIA. Hopefully this is a quick fix for the Market crew. I think I should shoot them an email to make them aware.
Protected apps like m bank´s are disent from this version of the Marquet...
That´s my only problem with this awesome 2.2 update.
At a guess most of them are probably to do with the new apps2SD, no doubt when devs start updating them with the new move to SD tags we still start seeing them again
Going to give it a few days before I complain about not having some paid apps (bTunes) though, hopefully thats an easy fix!
really slow
I also see the market is really really slow, I wonder if 2.2 is going somewhere else for data and that source was not ready for everyone to jump on the unconventional means of getting 2.2 up; also, some apps I had are not available and do not come up in searching the market.
Edit: Almost uncanny, but after pressing submit post, both problems disappeared and the market is now the fastest I have ever experienced. Installing and browsing at super speed. No reboot, or anything and my market is normal. Hope it works itself for others so fast
same here some apps arnt there anymore. it happened when the desire came out, protected apps wouldnt show. am sure they had to do an update on the phone to get it working.
i had same problem when start it for the 1st time after flashing yesterday, problem went away after a couple of reboot, now everything is incredibly fast.
Slow!? Lol you must be kidding me.... i have been using Cyanogenmod 5.0.6 for quite awhile and i had to wait, hang on... 5 minutes everytime downloading 1 app.
Here on Froyo, its just instant!
Froyo FTW.
I'ts a common issue it will fix himself (don't ask me how). I had this problem to and one day it fixed itself. This was also with 2.1.
This problems starts when you make a fresh start. There was a silent update for the market and if you have this update market is working fast enough else you have to be patient and wait till you get the update (again).
If you didn't make a fresh start and updated you won't be seeing this slowness of the market.
I've had BeyondPod on my Tab for a little while now and I'm wondering if it's freezing my Tab. A couple of weeks agi I rooted my Tab with Z4Root and later on found a thread that said Z4 is a no-no for the tab. I took Z4 off (so i thought), did a factory refresh, unrooted, and then refreshed again. Tab had worked fine for a couple of days then I opened up BeyondPod and a few minutes later my Tab began lagging terribly, to the point where I have to restart. I've done that a few times today and decided I'll listen to Tunein Radio. Well, that started lagging too. So now I'm using the built in Music player. My question is, has anyone had problems with BeyondPod or does anyone know of existing issues? If not, I need to figure out how to get my tab truly back to stock.
Thanks and sorry for the rambling.
Update:
The stock music player does it too. If I'm listening to something it's ok, but when I pause it, walk away for a bit, and then come back and try to resume it's basically frozen, it takes about 20 seconds for the tab to recognize the gesture and comply. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Get titanium backup from the market and back up only your apps, no system data. Then do a factory reset.
Use titanium to restore your apps, but no system data.
I had purchased Titanium backup and backed it up previously, but, I don't really know how to use it. I'll reload it and give it a shot. The other thing I was thinking about doing is using Odin and loading a the latest roto software. I've been reading a thread on it and it doesn't sound too difficult to do and I might be able to wipe the whole thing clean and end up with better software to boot. Thanks for the heads up!!!
I'm rooted via z4root and have had no problems at all with it,I've also got one click lag fix running(OCLF)which works a treat.

Dang I guess its just me. I'll update after I give it a go tonight. Hopefully it'll work.it seems be only affecting the music players.

I manually rooted my Tab the day I got it. Flashed Roto-JMC V1 about 3 days later. Never once looked back. Single best thing I could have done for my Tab. It's a COMPLETELY different machine. I've since moved on to Overcome and Ext4, another decision that I won't regret. But my guess is that would be a little more than you'd be interested in.

If you're serious about flashing, research, research, research. Stick to Roto's builds since they're rock solid and easy to flash. There's tons of guides and resources with a massive support backbone with the members here.
Also if you're willing to part with a few $$$ I'd recommend Doggcatcher for all your podcast needs. Great layout, supports every type of feed, works great with Bluetooth. I can't say I've ever liked Beyondpod.
(The links posted are potentially outdated. I've moved to Overcome/Ext4 and therefore don't pay much attention to the Roto releases/flashing methods anymore. Do your research and ask questions. Your device is your responsibility.)
So I've been having a decent number of force closes from apps like the browser and facebook recently. I've also noticed how the transformer is starting to slow down after being on for a while and requires a restart. In some games like glow hockey the screen someimes gets messed up in rotation too. Would installing primordial solve any of these issues? And i guess in general, are there any tangible benefits to running a custom rom on the transformer besides the knowledge of having a custom rom?

I dont feel slow down with my tf, but i recently get alot of force close with stock browser.
I'd probably do a factory reset first (this wipes the device, so save anything you need first).
And then slowly start reinstalling the apps you need.
Sometimes just the factory reset might fix whatever was going on. Other times it could of been something you installed that is causing problems with everything else.

Yes...this is the first step...SOMETHING is causing the TF to run as not designed.
I managed to snag a lapdock from amazon for 200$, got it today, and man has it been a headache.
it seems that both alien and cherrypie have put so much into their webtop over hdmi hacks that they caused a few issues with the lapdock.
Personally, every time I try to use it, the phone doesnt recognize it as a lapdock, it recognizes it as a monitor and keyboard. Touchpad doesnt work, USB seems inop, totally annoying, I'm still trying to figure out a way to revert to stock deodexed files so I can get around this.
I'm also finding that I can't for the life of me fix webtop2sd. multiple roms, busybox downloads and placement, all of it seems to just elude me. I had it working once on alien #4, then I couldn't boot past bootloader after applying the volume mod, which somehow is listed as a "dock fix" on the rom thread, but only caused more incompatibility problems (purely refused to go into webtop)
I really hate the thought of reverting to a stock rom, hell, i consider it not an option, has anyone else encountered this issue? I feel like the lapdock hasnt spread enough for people to voice these issues.
Edit- Testing a few more things to make sure the roms and hacks are at fault, seems like the smart thing to do before going through the trouble of making zip packages to revert stuff
will post findings
Edit 2 - So I went through the trouble of making HDMI hack reverting zips for CWM (PM me if you'd like it just in case) but it seems like things just work on cherrypie now, no modding, nothing
Edit 3 - And now webtop2sd works again too.....what in hell....okay then
in case anyone else has similar issues and wants to try to redo what i did
wipe data -> wipe dalvik -> fruit cake att 2.3 -> reboot and use -> cherrypie

Are you overclocked?
Whatever this is, it's definitely a hardware issue, not SW

no not overclocked. root is only changes from stock
whatever it is it's only effecting 5 apps, TB , a task killer. rarely.
3 games quite often.
i dont get it. strange
Thinking about flashing ICS or tiamatxoom on this sucker.
while back i got a permissions changing app, because i got alittle tired of so many apps self starting , the app mentioned that certain permission changes could possibly damage my os. Is this true?
also noticed that the ota nagging has stopped
Flash ICS, definitely. But undoing the permissions changes might be the answer. If it was in permissions denied, I know sometimes that can cause problems. Using autostarts has never caused this issue for me.
Yes!
IML77 cured all, and im loving ICS
