just flashed EOS nightly - a few questions please. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have a UK 16gb Nexus, which I rooted a few days ago. I finally caved in and installed the Team EOS jellybean nightly latest versions, all installed fine, and at least now TWRP install sticks unlike on the stock rom, when I'd have to reinstall it every time.
Anyways, I have a few issues, I suspect these are possibly already known, workarounds etc, but hope some can confirm. Unfortunately as a low poster I can't post the main queries onto the main rom thread yet
1) I noticed that whilst my tablet was originally on JR003D after taking the 4.1.1 update, EOS uses JR003C. Is there any reason for that?
2) Face unlock doesn't work. It just says Face Unlock couldn't start. googled and saw some comment on that not working for another phone device, so presume its the same on all EOS tablets?
3) Transformers 'free' movie rental. While I'm not overly bothered by this, would like to fix if theres an issue due to it later down the line. I read that movie rentals won't work on rooted phones. That being said, I could have swore I remember trying the rental successfully shortly after the main root, before flashing the custom rom, and it loaded fine....Is this fixable at all?
4) I have the 'tablet statusbar' set, as much prefer the 'back' button in the lower left, and the time etc on the same line. To me, the big menu button that takes you to apps, looks a bit odd and large. Is there any way to either merge it to the main task bar screen, or maybe shrink it a bit
5) Is it possible to add the airplane mode shortcut onto the pop up when you click the time area? (like my ICS Xoom is?)
6) I have yet to find the iplayer v1.3 apk, but presume I'll also need to install Flash too, or is this already loaded?
Thanks guys (and gals),
Tuck

For face unlock.
1. Unplug USB/charger cable
2. Disable face unlock - Use anything else
3. Re-boot
4. Set up face unlock
5. It should then work
However the moment you plug in the USB cable it will bork again so I've just chosen not to use it until it gets fixed.

thanks....I'll leave it for now too then. The face feature was prob more a novelty for myself than anything else.
Only other main issue, other than the few needed tweaks, I'm having with this rom is game compatability now.
Where's My Water v1.6.0 was working fine on the stock rom (rooted and unrooted), but now black screens on this rom

scrap that about Where's My Water game, managed to get it working a different way now

Lapdock compatibility withering?

I managed to snag a lapdock from amazon for 200$, got it today, and man has it been a headache.
it seems that both alien and cherrypie have put so much into their webtop over hdmi hacks that they caused a few issues with the lapdock.
Personally, every time I try to use it, the phone doesnt recognize it as a lapdock, it recognizes it as a monitor and keyboard. Touchpad doesnt work, USB seems inop, totally annoying, I'm still trying to figure out a way to revert to stock deodexed files so I can get around this.
I'm also finding that I can't for the life of me fix webtop2sd. multiple roms, busybox downloads and placement, all of it seems to just elude me. I had it working once on alien #4, then I couldn't boot past bootloader after applying the volume mod, which somehow is listed as a "dock fix" on the rom thread, but only caused more incompatibility problems (purely refused to go into webtop)
I really hate the thought of reverting to a stock rom, hell, i consider it not an option, has anyone else encountered this issue? I feel like the lapdock hasnt spread enough for people to voice these issues.
Edit- Testing a few more things to make sure the roms and hacks are at fault, seems like the smart thing to do before going through the trouble of making zip packages to revert stuff
will post findings
Edit 2 - So I went through the trouble of making HDMI hack reverting zips for CWM (PM me if you'd like it just in case) but it seems like things just work on cherrypie now, no modding, nothing
Edit 3 - And now webtop2sd works again too.....what in hell....okay then
in case anyone else has similar issues and wants to try to redo what i did
wipe data -> wipe dalvik -> fruit cake att 2.3 -> reboot and use -> cherrypie

Atrix lagging......what can I do?

Ever since the Gingerbread update my phone has had a noticable amount of lag. This occurs between screens, apps, button presses and even typing. Sometimes it wont do anything for a couple of seconds and then type the whole word I was trying to type.
I have also noticed a very long boot time when I power it off and back on. Takes several minutes...
My phone is rooted with Gingerblur.
Any ideas of what I can do to fix this?
1)Unlock bootloader
2)Flash a diff non-doodoo ROM, there are plenty of them
3)??????
4)Profit

#3 is did it fix your problem. The answer will be no its not going to. I work for at&t and have sold this phone with the update and it is a reported problem. My suggestion flash the stock gingerbread sbf and exchange with a device support center near you.

I bought this phone from at&t WITH the update and had 0 problem unlocking rooting flashing etc. I haven't even had a single experience with lag yet. Doodoo Motoblur is the source of the lag.

I hate doodoo
Wtf is WP7
Funny, I just left At&t for work : )
I noticed the Atrix phones coming with the Gingerbread have had a big percentage of glitches out of the box. Ive had a few even reluctant to do a full boot.
I got mine before Ginger with Froyo.
What is recommended? Its a shame as 2.2 worked fantastic! I like the idea of being able to update the software when the patches come out. You guys arent even messing with the Moto 2.3 update then? Just going to custom roms?

I'll just share my experience with you.
Whenever I get a new phone I'm not quick to root/flash etc. as I like to play around with it to be sure I really want to flash it. Plus, this was my first experience with motoblur so I wanted to give it a shot.
This phone was garbage IMO without a ROM. So much worthless bloat and a LOT of lag problems. The speed of this phone (for it's hardware) was extremely disappointing and I was seriously regretting my purchase. I was coming from a captivate, so to say I was disappointed (which coming from that phone) is huge. Lag between screens, god-awful boot up times, and confusing motoblur had me ready to return this and wait for something else. That being said, decided to give the ROMs a chance. I was coming from the latest software and I don't know if I just got lucky but I had 0 problems rooting, unlocking, and flashing....a lot less problems than I had with my captivate. Went with cm7 and haven't looked back. Aside from a few relatively minor bugs with cm7 (which WILL be fixed), I am now extremely pleases with this phone...I guess the better term would be in love with it. Its blazing fast, good battery life, and just feels smooth all-around.
It really a shame that we have to go through these kind of hoops to unleash the phones potential...so many users that will never know how great of a phone they have.

Make a nandroid
Unlock your bootloader
flash cm7
I PROMISE you won't regret it!!
I've been using Android for a while now & the only competition that cm has is miui (and that isn't even available yet)

i got my first phone from AT&T and bricked it unfortunately, went back into the AT&T store and explained my situation to the rep and asked how much it would be to replace it, but he gave me a new one free of charge.
after i got my second one, i updated it to GB right away and was satisfied with the phone, the AT&T rep played with it showing me all sorts of things about Android since it's my first Android phone. after about 30 minutes of showing me all sorts of cool things i could do with it, he said he was confident that the phone was bug free so i walked out of the store and updated it right there. i noticed a lag increase with gingerbread that wasn't there in his froyo presentation, which was kind of disappointing. after i got home and rooted my phone though, i was able to tweak things and get the ball rolling, only slight lag on certain transitions and games. (still disappointing with these specs though)
shortly after, i unlocked the bootloader and flashed ninja speed freak, which cleared up almost all my lag problems. i didn't experience any real lag in transitions, but every once in a while i'd get slight lag in games.
then CM7 came out, and i installed it, and i'm experiencing 10-15 second boot screen times, compared to multiple minute boot times on stock. no lag with any animation or game i've played so far, great quality videos and extremely satisfied all around. the different without motoblur is extremely noticeable. i can't wait for it to be finished so all our wonderful devs can go back to their own little side projects, and we can see what this phone is really capable of
Flash a newer Rom.
If you like the blur features use homebase.
Cm7 is GREAT! But not If you like blur.
Alien rom was my favorite rom till cm7 tho.
You wont regret flashing eaither of those.

Cm7 is the answer
I gave thanks to all of you! I very much appreciate the feedback. CM7 is what I have been researching as well and it sounds like the bomb!
However, I am really spinning my wheels here on getting the bootloader unlocked. Getting CM7 on there is not hard at all. Ive done that kind of stuff before on other phones, but Im not getting sucess on the bootloader.
Im running 2.3.4 if that makes any difference and am rooted.
When I attempt to unlock the bootloader I get a message on cmd saying "oem unlock is not implemented"
Can one of you guys/gals gently walk me through unlocking this guy? Maybe Im missing one little thing? I have spend two days researching and trying the different methods and keep coming up against this wall.
Thank you so much in advance! : )
I am on stock GB and experienced a little lag. But after I installed SGS TOUCHSCREEN BOOSTER and bought ADW EX I've never had a problem. When I used Zedge to download wallpapers my Atrix crashed and rebooted. So uninstalled that and I'm good again.

Ok, finally! I got it done and flashed to CM7. WOW! I love it!
I did notice some differences so I will post my experience here. I will highlight the differences I found that worked for my 2.3.4 Rooted Atrix. Maybe it will help other newbs like me : )

***I marked the differences I noticed when unlocking my 2.3.4 unlocked At&t Gingerbread***
How To: Unlock the Atrix 4G Bootloader
Prerequisites
• Backed up /data partition
You will lose all of your /data during this process!
• Unlock SBF file [Mirror]
• RSD Lite 5.3.1 or sbf_flash [Download if Atrix is Froyo]
• Fastboot package [Mirror]
Also found in the Android SDK tools folder
Instructions
1. If you’re on Gingerbread, skip to step 13. (I was on 2.3.4 Gingerbread and I also had to do all the steps. Dont skip!!!)
2. Power down your Motorola Atrix
3. Take out your microSD card and SIM card for the flashing process
4. While turning the phone on, hold the Volume Up button until it acknowledges RSD
5. Your device will say “Starting RSD protocol support”
6. Run “RSD Lite” on your computer
7. Press the “. . .” button next to the box labeled “Filename”
8. Load up the SBF file
The SBF file is located inside of the .zip file, you must extract it out before loading it into RSD Lite
Use WinRAR or 7-Zip to extract the .zip file on your computer
9. Plug your device into your computer
Use the USB ports on the back side of your computer for safety
10. RSD Lite should recognize your device and say “Model: NS Flash Olympus” and “Connected…” (Mine said SE Flash Olympus, not NS)
11. Press the “Start” button
12. Be patient while the phone reboots. It will take a long time. (Phone didn’t reboot. It went to a menu and said “5 seconds to select Fastboot”. You have to use Vol down to move in the menu and the Vol up button to select “Fastboot”)
13. Open and extract the Fastboot package from above
14. Open a command prompt window
On Windows, press Start and type “cmd” then press the enter button
15. Type the following command. Your directory will be the folder where you extracted the Fastboot package.
(Example: cd C:\Users\Kenneth\Desktop\fastboot-package) (I extracted mine to the C:\ drive. Then you don’t have to type so much. Just cd C:\fastboot )
cd your directory here
16. Power down your Atrix device
17. Hold the power button and the downward volume button until you see “Fastboot”
18. Let go of the buttons and press the upward volume button once
19. You will now see “Starting Fastboot protocol support”
20. Plug your device into a USB port in the back slot of your computer
Front slots sometimes do not have enough power to stay connected to the device.
21. Type the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
22. You will now receive a warning along with a unique device ID
23. Type the following commands using your unique device ID in place of the ####:
fastboot oem unlock ####
fastboot reboot
24. Wait for your device to reboot. Congratulations! You now have an unlocked bootloader! (Mine said “unlocked” in upper left hand corner, but didn’t reboot. I pulled the battery and restarted. Been working fantastic ever since!)

[Q] long time watcher and rom user. first time poster.

Hello my name is Xan Steel. I've been trying out roms on this forum for my Epic 4G. However I've run across a lot of bugs in this rom "ACS ICS V6". I would love to be able to post them in the development thread pertaining to the rom, but since I'm under the 10 post limit to post in a dev thread. I would like to ask how I go about doing this the correct way without breaking forum rules.
Thanks in advanced
Xan Steel
Tell us what your problems are here.
1st you have to have 10 post. Go to other threads and comment on stuff like the off topic forum. Then you should be able to post on dev threads. Or you can pm them and let them know.

Well as Neckberg has said to post my issues here (Thanks) I shall.
[ROM] ACS ICS V6.
Where to began.
I came from ACS SyndicateFrozen 1.1.1 I could never get 1.2 to run. And this ROM was based on GB. Really wanted to see what GB was like. SO after installing the ROM. Everything started out normal (no issues at that point). It was sluggish which made me wonder if Carrier I.Q. was still in the ROM. It wasn't listed that it was removed.
SO I started trying things out. Everything was going good until I turned on the Wireless WiFi Tether. It crashed outright. Tried again, and crashed. It would open to a black screen and then crash. So I did some digging, and apparently this is a known issue. So I got a different one from the market that worked (Open Garden WiFi Tether).
I installed Opera. I like Opera for it's desktop mode that actually works over Dolphins. I would type in a address, and hit go, and it would act like its going, and then stop and remove what I had typed. Tried again, and it would load a blank page. Tried a third time, and got the HTML header to load the page in a text format. Uninstalled and reinstalled same thing happen. So I left it alone, and about 3 hours later it had uninstalled itself/completely missing on the phone and market stated it wasn't installed. Rebooted phone, still gone. Not idea where it went. After reinstalling it again. it would do the same thing.
So I flashed and wiped X3. And reloaded the ROM. Thinking I have a bad load.
reinstalled all my apps and even though Opera is still doing it's thing I mentioned earlier, it hasn't uninstalled itself... yet.
Now after the reload of the ROM. Last night I lost cell service (couldn't make calls) but I had data. Which was odd to me. Rebooted the phone, and same thing. Had data but not cell service. After about and hour or so, I have cell and data back together. Maybe it was someone working on the tower in the area at 11pm, or maybe the ROM decided it would be funny.
Another thing I noticed. If you hit the menu button to pull menus in apps and on the home screens. They are white on black. White text and image, on a black background. Now if you go into any sub-menu from the main menu, its black on black. You can't read anything unless your lucky to have a bright white page behind it, so that it can try to bleed through some of the transparency.
The battery icon when charging in portrait goes from normal to skinny (blinking), while in landscape mode it goes from normal to fat (blinking).
Also two music apps is not really needed. One is fine. Trimming down on unneeded apps would help save on space. Also remove Carrier I.Q. if it hasn't been yet.
Adding that super brightness, is actually bad. Not thinking about it, it's actually crashed the video HW of the phone. On a plain white screen at max brightness, it starts to artifact, and if what ever your trying to do doesn't complete. The video HW crashes, and you get a pretty rainbow on the screen until you pull the battery. Basically acts like a dying or dead video card in a PC. Also it can (and has happened to me) cause screen burn in. If you want a image of it let me know and I'll post one.
Also Rom Manager does not recognize any ClockWorkMod Recovery, if you manually install the recovery yourself.
If I find anything else buggy I'll post and update here.
Thanks
Xan Steel

Note, I haven't tried this rom myself.
No, carrierIQ is not removed on this rom, nor has it been removed on any GB rom that I know of. Still, removed or not, it won't make any difference in the performance of the device.
Any apps that you fine are useless can easily be uninstalled, even if they are installed system/app folder. Rom chefs correct attitude about roms is that they build for themselves first. I personally have 3 music players installed.
We don't have official Rom Manager support so that will be an issue on pretty much all non AOSP roms for the epic.
Your lack of service issue it probably a carrier issue and not a rom issue.

It's a good possibility since it only happened the one time, but since it is a beta, and I'm using it for the first time. I felt it needed to be brought up just in case it wasn't. Heh beta tested a lot of new software, and got into the habit of reporting everything, even if it looks like something else is the issue and not the software.
Many Thanks

How to fix completely the low mic/audio issue on Galaxy S5?

This problem remains forever, doesn't matter what custom rom you're using, it'll be still there.... I've tried a lot of thing to fix it, some doesn't work like this or that thread, however, this worked for me (not completely, I'll explain why...)
Well, the last one didn't work for me because after every new update/build, the fix is cleaned and you need to flash it again every new build/update. How to deal with it?
I need go give my phone to one of my parents and they don't know how to flash. I was happy because, at least, LineageOS updates itself automatically (except by the fix which need to be done manually). Unfortunately I don't know any other custom rom that has OTA updates working (and of course, updates itself automatically) and the audio is working normally.
I don't use the stock due to sluggishness, errors, being outdated since 2017. So, I need to flash a proper rom but it seems to be hardcore issue.
I need some help.
Get a pin and shove it in the mic hole
Get all the rubbish out & you might have to pierce the filter that's on the other side too like I did
After doing that I had no mic issues

Anybody still in here?

So I just (possibly stupidly) picked up a mint Thrive 10" from my local Goodwill for $17. All I really need it for is a basic shop tablet to use in the garage for playing music, and pulling up how-to's (youtube/etc), service manuals, etc.
The problem I'm running into is threefold:
1. There are multiple resources I'm finding that absolutely won't work on anything older than ICS. Youtube is one. Not any version of app, browser, nothing. And the highest Android version the Toshiba servers will give me is 3.2.1, not even ICS. Which isn't surprising after hearing that release was notoriously troublesome, I suspect maybe they pulled it down(?)
2. The vast majority of links and/or development projects I'm finding are long dead/abandoned.
3. Also, I'm admittedly a bit of a noob when it comes to rooting/flashing/etc Android devices
If at all possible, I'd like to skip ICS altogether and go straight to JB.
I found this walkthrough, but links are all dead --> https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-12-flashable-zip-works-with-any-rom.1918679/
I also snooped around pio's github, but struggling to make heads or tails of everything there.
Can anyone give me a hand?
Welcome!
I was an early adopter, and was pretty active on the original Thrive forum. A few months ago Tune In stopped working, and I found this forum. For me, I use it for streaming internet radio.
I found this post particularly helpful, with an updated list of apps that work - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/toshiba-thrive-apk-pack-4-0-4-updated-for-2022.4408151/
Spotify still works for me...but I got an e-mail from them saying support would end in a few weeks (mid January 2023).
Since Tune In app stopped I was able to use the links to load working versions of Firefox - then go to fmstream.org and pull up some of my favorite radio stations which play through VLC
A couple apps not on the list that still work are Radio Box (WXPN works!) and Radar Express
Many, many years after my original purchase I found a dock pretty cheap, so it sits on a bookcase near the stereo, where it's hooked up.
Look, it's even cheaper now! https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-PA3934U-1PRP-Thrive-Multi-Dock-Tablet/dp/B004YIFOP0
(Edit: I just remembered why I got the dock - these had particularly wonky audio input connections, the dock solves this since it has it's own Audio output).
At the very least, for $17, the screen saver clock is nice!
@BPD99 thanks for the reply and the links, particularly the dock on Amazon. Already have one on the way!
I've unfortunately realized that my Thrive is suffering from what I suspect to be system level issues.... Like memory not releasing, index files not clearing, etc. There are several apps cumulatively retaining artifacts despite me clearing app cache and data, etc. I've already done multiple factory resets but the issues keep re-emerging. I think my only option to resolve these issues is to wipe it and start over, but I'm not 100% on the procedure step by step without bricking it. Also, I'm debating whether I'd ideally want to stick with the stock 3.2.1 image, or try to figure out if I could get pio's 4.1.2 image on it. Can anybody walk me through either way?
I wish I remembered how to install a ROM - I did find this, looks like basic instructions are similar from what I remember:

Rooting and flashing new ROM used to involve connected to PC, I think I remember using the SD card the last time I flashed a ROM.
I had issues with my Thrive after 5-6 years of daily use, then it wouldn't boot. I bought the same device on eBay, but with a broken screen and changed out the brains (I can't remember which part exactly...maybe I need a new brain!).
The dock is great, since I retired mine from business use, that's where it sits.
Do you play guitar? There are still some chord/tab apps on the play store that work.

Just wanted to drop an update- I was able to piece together enough old links, file resources and tools/utilities that I was able to get this thing rooted, custom recovery and rom installed. It is now running JellyBean glitch free and faster than ever. So for anyone looking to accomplish this on one of these it is still possible
I'd say the only issue I have now is that the rom I got doesn't have a file manager. Anybody who can chime in with a suggestion please do
Congrats!
Total Commander?
It still works on 4.0.4, so might be worth a try.
