Greenish screen tint - Galaxy S II General

Hello everyone,
First of all I don't post this issue in the yellowish side thread, because this isn't what happens to me. Mi tint applies to the whole screen and it's more a green kind of tint.
I've got a SGS2 since the day it was released in Spain (20ish of May), but until yesterday I didn't know anyone else who had it. A friend of mine bought it recently from Vodafone, and yesterday we compared screens (I was showing him roms and introducing him to Android etc.).
Point is, both on Cognition KH3, his S2 showed a real grey-blueish colour, whilst mine has this greenish aspect. I couldn't make a photograph in that moment, but I simply did a screencapture of the notification tray, and opened it from my pc displayed on a correctly calibrated monitor.
This is the result:
h**p://img689.imageshack.us/img689/4429/img2776wp.jpg
(Can't post pics, sorry about that, new user)
I've tried full wipe (memory cards included), stock roms, cognition, leomar, lightning, speedmod, ninphetamine; been tryin' supercurio's Screentune app (which partly solves this phone's banding problem) and nothing.
The phone is set on autobrightness, Standard effect, no LED energysave or whatsoever.
Question is, should I take it to the tech service? Is this the usual SAmoled screen? Am I just a neurotic a**hole?

No big deal I think, I have simillar greenish tint, doesnt bother me that much, I believe it's not that much visible. Yes your's is little bit deeper, I also have phone released as one of the first in UK, maybe a problem of first batch? Question: what are the 2 arrows pointing up and down on your picture in the info pull down menu? Next to wifi icon and bluetooth? Is it something added from your operator? What it does? I don't have it on my SGS. Thx.

It's relieving to know I'm not the only one, and that maybe this is a general issue on the first units of this phone. Maybe could be solved with software?
ps: The arrows are simply a Data Connection toggle added in the some custom ROMs . In this case as I said it's Cognition's latest ROM.

Strange colors on HD2 screen. HELP

I have HD2 since 2 months ago and it worked perfectly till a few days ago when the screen appears with some strange colors, not the normal ones. The touch screen works perfectly and the phone works ok. It's just that the colours are different from the original ones. Then after a few minutes or so it comes back to normal.
Any idea?
Thanks for your help.
did it fell off the ground before ?
nope, never felt down
any idea?
maybe your LCD flexband/cable is not tight fit in the slot..under the lcd-glass
had that before with sony cellphone
i would take it to service if you dont want to loose warranty.

After receiving back my Laptop from repair's (manufacture). A week later your problem came about. It was discovered by manufacture on return that the 'Wire Tape' connection was lose at one end between graphics card and screen. So when the Laptop was first repaired it was overlooked that the connection not right when the manufacture put it back together.
Best to send It back right now and they should replace it with a new one
Problem gone !!
Had the same (I think) problem. The colours on the screen went "blurry" & lost it's sharpness. Took it to service and they just re-flashed it with the newest ROM. Don't think that's the right solution to the problem though...
i already tried to flash it with the newst rom available on htc web site but it didn't work.
I brought the phone to the service. I'll let you know.
Thank you.
just curious, did you happen to have a custom rom with 576MB of ram enabled?
see this thread h t t p : / / forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=677979
no, it's the original rom. never applied a custom rom
Did you get this sorted out?
I think im having the same problem, since about a week ago i get horizontal bands of discolouration across the screen, at first it seemed to only affect Sense, but now any program running shows these bands of colour (like a purple colour band across the screen). Sometimes it is fine but now seems to be mostly like this.
Still on the original ROM...

dont solve anythink, the issues continue....like yours...sometimes less sometimes mucher.
Has anyone sorted out this issue ?? Cos now mine is having the same problems...
I have checked around on other forums and no one seems to have the problem.
oh, and my HD2 is out of warranty, so I hope it won't cost a fortune if ihave to get it fixed....
Sorry for digging up an old thread but:
another one with strange colors over here. White is whit, black is black, but green, red and blue look a lot "paler". The colors are much less vibrant then they used to be.
The backlight of my hardware powerkey stopped working a thesame time. Other hardware buttons are fine...
question is.. will this get fixed under warranty? Anyone had thesame issue and sent his phone out to be repaired?
same problem now and then...someone help
if i apply a little preassure near the bessels or the usb port...screen becomes normal but you can never say when the problem might appear again...help !

Seems like a loose contact on display ribbon cable. It happens after caring the phone long time in pockets usually in the summer when it's hot and sweat can enter in the phone. Contacts don't like moisture, in special sweat, it's corrosive. In addition, when caried in back pockets it will be slightly deformed and it is the second cause of that failure.
Strange colors on HD2 screen
I had a similar problem a while ago, horizontal green/yellow bands across the screen. At first it was intermittent but then became permanent. I had to send it back to HTC for a fix.

Several questions....

Hi folks.....,
Anyhow, I have several questions for y'all about the phone. I was wondering, can anything be done about the pink hue in camera shots? I've noticed that in some pictures, it's not so evident, but in others, it's clear as day. Is there a trick to this? I know that changing phones don't really work as it seems to be something to do with the tech of the camera itself + the housing of the lens or something.
Also, since this is my first time using WM 6.5, is it normal for the Start menu, to segment in terms of scrolling? Like, instead of a smooth drop all the way to the bottom, it goes in "pages" almost, if this makes any sense. Also, is there a trick to using capacitive screens? Whenever I try to use my fingertip to scroll, sometimes it registers, sometimes it half-registers. Is angle an issue here? Do you get better with this over time?
I'm running stock ROM right now, with a yellow-reset button if that matters, with 2.13. Having said that, what are some of the common things I can check for in terms of manufacturer's defects, etc? I want to try avoiding flashing until I've checked for these common issues first to save me the hassle of flashing back again, etc.
Thanks everyone! But boy...the phone is snappy.

I can't answer your question about the pink hue. I haven't noticed it in my pictures, yet.
Yes, the page scrolling in the start menu screen is by design. It's so you don't go way farther down than you wanted to. I think it's retarded.
The touch issues you are describing could be for two different reasons.
1st, I hope you aren't using your fingernail? A capacitive screen requires skin contact.
2nd, the 2.13 ROM has serious touch sensitivity issues. There is a sticky in the "T-Mobile USA HD2 General" forum up top that gives you a .cab to install that fixes the registry for much more responsive touch scrolling.
Since you posted this in that same forum, I'm sure you will see it up there!
Thanks for the reply. I actually tried the cab above by zim or something, and it made my touch scrolling so much worse in SPB Mobile Shell. So I don't know what's going on.
Anyhow, I spoke with a T-Mobile rep, and we went through the usual rigmarole, and he told me since I can't get rid of the pink hue, I should just go back and get an exchange. Anyone think I should do this? Or are all units likely to have this problem? How many HD2 users here do not have this problem for the T-Mobile HD2 version?
A good number of the units have the "pink hue" problem. You can see several videos people have made on YouTube about this.
I have a bit of it as well.
My contention...live with it because it seems as though you have about a 50/50 chance of getting another unit with the same problem.

Is it normal to see the pink hue even through the screen though? Like, you start up the camera, even just at looking at the screen, I can see the pinkness in the center already. Is this normal?
That's my worry too. Everything else with the phone works so far. No dead pixels, no manufacturer's defects in the physical case....my worry is that by exchanging, I'm increasing the risk of obtaining one of these other problems.
Edit: Also, I have to mention that the pink hue is without flash.

Mine...on occasion it does have the pink tint but when I take the picture it is not there. People said to try to take a picture of a blank piece of white paper and see what it looks like. I tried with my phone and it looked white and my friend tried it with his iphone 3gs and it was fine as well. I read somewhere about it being an issue with a number of cameras not only the HD2. That being said a lot of people have including myself have taken really good pictures without a hint of pink?!?!

Yeah, I figured as much now. I realize when I use the pad of my thumb and scroll, it's so orgasmic and makes me jizz in my pants. And to see the scrolling without the icons being rendered as you go is.....just ....how it was supposed to be.
Funny enough though, I can't seem to hit the corners as easily. This is apparently evident when for example, you're in the Phone settings, and you have the two arrow keys on the bottom right. It's almost impossible for me to use my right thumb without hitting 10 times while my left-thumb needs about 2 ~ 3 tries. The screen seems to register the touch at the center of my thumb-pad, so to speak. Is this normal? Or does it just register the area of the thumb that gives off the most "signal", so to speak?

The pink spot was addressed by an HTC-issued patch for the euro Leo, which is still available on the HTC support/updates site for that model. But, the patch states that it's for builds prior to the ones used in the Tmo models, so I don't know that it will make a difference, but you're welcome to try it. I think the same tweak is available in all the HD2 tweaks listed in the sticky on the main page...in the list of all the "touch-x" cabs smaberg posted, there's one there for the "camera fix", I believe that's the same thing.
I haven't noticed the pink spot on my HD2 at all, and I did a test or two with a white paper...but I honestly don't remember what lighting I used. If I were you, I'd just test it several ways (indoors/outdoors/flash/no flash) and compare the results.

It's much more prevalent in indoor shots without flash. For outdoor shots, it's hard to notice it, but the farther you go away from the picture, the more noticeable the pink blur is. The radius of the pinkness get larger as the darker the ambient surround gets, at least for me.
Im still debating whether it is worth the hassle to argue for a brand new one, knowing that the reps might be reluctant to shell out a brand new HD2 over what they'd probably deem as a "minor" discoloration or something.
i noticed the pink hue on my hd it started after i had the screen replaced and then added copilot i beleive its from where the video driver has an issuse and it maybe to where u hav to get the device replaced dude if u hav a custom rom try task 29 and then add a new different rom so that the rom is fresh on the device now so far on my hd2 i see no pink hue but i hav one of the first genration of tmous-hd2 i ordered it the first day,,, hope info helped

Hmm, but I've read online it's more to do with the low-quality of the camera parts and nothing to do with software really. Seems like a hit or miss really. Still fidgeting at this point whether to get it replaced or not since everything else works perfectly.
Anyhow, running SPB Mobile Shell on this monster results in 0 lags/freezes.

Yeah, my understanding is that the root of that issue is hardware based...the fix that was released was just an attempt to improve the way the software tries to compensate for that. But yes the only way to 100% eliminate it is to use higher-quality (and therefore bulkier) hardware components, at least from the references I've read on the topic.

What would you do Phunkee? Live with it or try your luck for a new phone?
Also, does anyone know if enabling Wireless N increases your drain when using Wi-Fi? And if you'll see a speed increase on Wireless G networks? And does enabling Wireless N count as "voiding" the phone's warranty?

If it's noticibile enough in your own pictures that it bothers you, I'd only try for a replacement phone if they can guarantee you a new one instead of a refurb (might want to take it into a store). I still can't seem to recreate the issue for sure, at least in any pictures where coloring isn't already kooky overall because of lighting irregularities.
Keep in mind too that it looks like new/replacement units are now being shipped with the 2.13 ROM from the factory, so also decide if that matters to you or not.
EDIT: I don't know about the wifi-N drain or performance improvements...I have it enabled on mine but my work and home networks are still G-only. I'm 99.8% sure though that it does NOT void your warranty to enable that.
1. There is a CAB file for the pink spots, have you tried it on your model?
2. Wireless "N" seemed to drain my power more also. And no it will not void your warranty because after a hard reset it will turn the registry tweak off. Hard Reset brings everyting back to stock except for your call timers. (unless you HPSL'd your phone).
Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. Right now, I've noticed that outdoor shots, it's hardly noticeable on the computer, so I think I'm likely to just stick with this phone. Everything runs great after all.
Anyhow, I wanted to ask, how do you guys use your screens? Do you use the base of your thumb? I can't for the life of me get scrolling to work when I use the tip of my forefinger. Not my nail, just even towards the tip, it's choppy. I test it out on the Notes program and I try to do a flick and I can understand why. Instead of a single vertical line being drawn, it's being split into 3 ~ 4 smaller lines, as though the screen is not able to register the touch continuously. Is this something to do with my personal body charge and how my finger is shaped? I only ask because I've used an iPod Touch before and I was able to scroll just fine with my finger tip. Is there anyway to improve the sensitivity even further?

There has been some sensitivity issues with 2.13; not saying that's it but a good place to start looking. There are also some registry tweaks for the flicking of your finger (how far it flips up/down). I don't have the exact link, but a quick search will get you in the right place. I personally use the end of my index fingers, thumbs, whatever finger is closest to the key I'm looking for.

by pages I wonder if you are describing lagging. Lagging should not be normal. I suggest you notate how much free ram you have and how your program screen behaves (smooth or laggy)by going to >start menu>settings>system memory. After, run clean ram and repeat the above mentioned steps. You should have more memory and a smoother user interface.

Weird colour problem on screen

Hi all,
I dropped my phone yesterday, oops! Its all working fine apart from the screen. There is a problem with the blue colour.
I'm using Android from the SD card, and from using any program where you can change the colour of an item, I can tell the blue colour is screwed up. There are 3 sliders, RGB to change the colour. With R and G at 0, sliding the blue scale should go from black to full bright blue. It kind of does this but its appears near full bright blue half way, then drops back to black just after half way and goes back up to bright blue at full scale again. Very weird.
Anyone heard of this before? Any suggestions to fix? Its all working absolutely fine apart from this blue colour wierdness.
Thanks for any help.
thats no problem it aint serious actualy its no problem at all...ur hd2 is fine
Err...nope there is definately a problem, its not fine. All the colours are wrong due to the blue component in them being incorrect I think. I have quite a few blue wallpapers, and basically wherever there is supposed to be light blue, its completely wrong. It looks awful, not just those wallpapers but everything is slightly the wrong colour.

Sounds like your HD2 is having a hardware iue due to what is called mechanical shock (being dropped). You should send it in for warranty repair or replacement if it is still under warranty.
What could actually be wrong with the phone, that I could replace to fix it, any idea?
Anyone know how long the warrranty is for O2 uk? I bought the phone Dec 09 I think when they first came out.

You might want to let someone else post to make sure. But I have read several times here I the HD2 forums that O2 gives you a two year warranty were as my provider T-Mobile only gives us a one year warranty.

screen burn in ?

hi. i am using 2 phones the nexus s and the gs2 .
and i noticed something on my gs2 and i need to ask you people about it.
the phone isnt like 3 weeks old. its brand new. however i noticed a temp screen burn in on the following places.
when i use the keyboard for txt msging. if i pull the keyboard down " by pressing back ", i can see the squares of the keyboard on the screen for like few seconds before they dissapear.
i also noticed the same thing in the status bar, battery meter. specially in the browser or an hd wallpaper app called " HD wallpaper "
when i downloaded that app. i turned the wireless and went through the app. now its trying to load . if i switch the screen to the side. the status bar will tilt as well. vertical horizintal depends on the way you move the screen. and i clearly can see the marks of the status bar for few seconds before it dissapear again on whatever verticial or horizintal/
what is the issue here ? i cant call it burn in because its not permenant.
i noticed the same thing with Miui on the nexus S. but only on the status bar. nothing on the keyboard.
any idea peeps
is it some sort of memory effect or bad refrish rate ?
Someone else had this. I think it was related to apps or widgets they installed. It's not normal. Do a search and see if you can find the other thread. Try searching on "ghosting."
i was searching through ghosting. is this normal with everyone here ? or some people dont have it ?
i think you should be carefull with your phone, if you leave it to much on the same background it will burn in easelly, oled burn in as easelly as plasmas when it comes to leaving them on the same image over and over again, try see if you can change yours, i certainly have no such issues with none of the 2 i had nor with this one.
PS: depends on what you mean with ghosting, if you mean the pixel response time beying visible when moving an image fast then yes thats normal, even though oled have 0.01 ms response time this one is deffinitly higher as i can notice it easelly.
i have a screen burn in on my Nexus One, annoying at times when i do notice it.
Yes, I have this. Had a thread, temporarly burn in. I can see it when I type a message.
Just when the keyboard is visible and I pull down the notification bar, I can see the contoures of the keyboard letter there... Probably happens with other things but aren't that noticable on other colours than grey I guess...
i can also see some weird banding or whatever on a pure gray image, not sure how normal this is but ive noticed it with all of my 3 phones.
ghost image disappears for me within 2 seconds (very hard to see unless if you look at the screen hard), definitely not a problem, and wont be killing myself for this or even consider it a hardware issue.
i also facing a same problem as u guys, now waiting for service centre to replace my lcd.
This ghosting issue seems to happen with all phones, very visible when your using the keyboard and you drop down the notification tray, then it goes away after a couple of seconds.
Two issues here. First off, search the forum for burn in, its already been posted.
Two issues, the temporary burn in is new to the galaxy s2 and seems to go away after a few seconds. But all Samsung amoled screens suffer permanent burn in of the status bar, click time, and anything else in a static place.
My nexus one has permanent burn in right now, both status bar and keyboard. Original galaxy s and others has this also.
The temporary burn in seems to be different and only on this new amoled plus display so far.

i did search the forum before i post. however. as far as i know . burn in screens are permenant. and the other threads talked about that. here i am talking about something that goes off after few seconds. something like either ghosting / or something about low memory / low resposne / low refresh rate of the screen. not a real butn in.
I've recently bought a Galaxy S2 from someone and didn't see the burn in until a few days ago.
Now I can't reach the guy to get my money back... the phone seems in perfect shape except for the burn in (status bar and some digital clock widget).
I've been trying every day now to run this app called Screen Burn-in Tools for an hour or so but nothing happens.
You can find the app on the Google Play.
Should I continue using this tool or this burn-in is permanent and there's nothing I can do about it?
I can't believe such a high end phone has such a poor life display... how can this be possible!?!? They should've stayed with the regular LCD or something.
It's too bad because I'm a fan of the OLED idea and technology, but unfortunately samsung owns too many patents for this technology to spread to other manufacturers as well. This is what happens when the damn corporations get their greedy hands on something great that can benefit the mankind!

Display problem? (Stripe on notification line)

Hello guys, my Note 4 has exactly 1 year now. But a few days ago, I have noticed that notification line looks somehow different than the rest of a screen. Then I went to service menu (dialled x#0*#), and tested it through red, green and blue colors. It is clearly visible on blue, that the part of display where notification line is (clock, wifi icons...), it is less saturated, I can clearly see the stripe there and that part of screen being absolutely different than the rest of it. The question is, what to do, I think in service centre they won´t bother with these kind of "problems". Can you please look at yours and let me know? I would be very grateful. I wanted to add a photo of it, but on a photo from my camera it is not visible...I hope you get what I am talking about Again, thanks!
Mine has this problem as well. It's the same effect that happened on old plasma TVs, the image is retained on the screen. There are some apps on the market that can help, you let them working at some time, showing color patterns at maximum bright and erasing the retained image.

And how old is your phone? Did it start suddenly, or it was from the beginning? Or did you drop it... I guess sending it for a month to a service centre and then receiving message that they don´t see a thing is not a great idea (Yes, we have this "good" and "fast" service centres when phone is in warranty period). I only worry about it spreading accross the screen. The same thing happened to my old Galaxy S2, but in a different place on screen...
No probs on my phone
If I were you, go to a Samsung Service Center (if you still have warranty!)

I did some reading today, and found out it is a common problem of amoled displays. And the fact is that it is most visible on blue color. It is called screen burn or something like that. LCD panels do not suffer with this, luckilly...so I guess I have to get used to it...this guy exactly pointed out my problem ->
