anyone with experience with webOS? to me it seems like the poor man's android...what app options are there? flash support?

theyd be great with webOS
samsung is still throwing BADA devices out....so imagine webOS

The Os, at least the version that shipped on my pre, is the best mobile is i've used. Nothing else can give you true multitasking. But the lack of hardware support, which led to a lack of app support, made for a very frustrating experience. I missed it for a few months after i got the epic. Now I can't imagine not having the app support.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

I would love android to have a more webOS feel to it. While it always lacked the proper hardware and dev support. The os is solid.
From cellblock D

The only reason they are buying web os is the same reason google bought motorola mobile. They are just trying to gain patent ground against apple and all the lawsuits.
I don't think you will see any samsung phones with web os because of this purchase.

WebOS had a nice feel, but was not as stable as android in my exp. The lack of decent apps was a problem also. My pre was a horrible phone and I haven't really missed it or webos since getting my epic.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

webOs is honestly the best mobile OS I've ever used. It's so fun to just flick the apps away and has by far the best multitasking you'll ever see. They just needed better hardware and more apps. Otherwise, the funnest OS I've ever used.
Hell I even read somewhere that HP tried putting webOS on the iPad, and that it ran way faster than it ever did on the touchpad or any other HP/Palm device.

Im a little tired right now, so when I read that I seriously lol'd. Which I thought never actually happened.
In other news, hardware has apexed, so maybe Das Googla will start focusing on a more consistent software pie chart.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
hey i love sense to. i think its much better than stock droid and touchwiz!!
As far as froyo ofcourse iphone got it first..........iphone always gets the good stuff first and will be that way always sorry to say....
Fragmentation of phones is hurting android and always will!!! sad truth!!! And im talking about a hardware fragmentation more than os!
Also why would an Iphone user want froyo?? Apple Os ........and i know alot of people will crazy over this...........is much better than android and dev friendly!!
Remember google didnt make android they bought it for 50 million.........it was never a gaming platform. Wont be for a while! from what ive read
The iPhone has had froyo for a while now. Its just that everything had to be done via linux desktop os. All bootlace does is allow the flashing of openiboot and android from userland now.

AOSP Starting to drop *slowly*

Looks like Google is starting to drop AOSP HoneyComb - Slowly albeit. I am not sure if enough has been dropped for JesusFreak to get us a good BakSmalli/Smalli setup though

"albeit". Pet peeve.
Google needs to put the ****ing source out already. If they want to prevent crappy devices with honeycomb, this is the wrong way to do it.
Sent from my Captivate
What's the right way to do it? Because I can't imagine the flak Google will take once the crappy manufacturers get hold of the source code and devices with 128mb of RAM and 400mhz processor are running Honeycomb at glacier speed.
Suddenly people will be saying, "but I thought it was designed for tablets? Honeycomb sucks!"
Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

I don't get that argument at all... Companies want their device to sell not flop. The galaxy tab ran 2.2 simply because honeycomb didn't exist back then. Honestly tho... Who the hell is going to buy a honeycomb phone... ?

Satisfying GPL/LGPL, and they've been there since January. Nobody noticed until they were recently updated.

Still unlikely we'll see full Honeycomb in AOSP; Ice Cream will drop soon enough.

I get your point but I'm not talking about quality manufacturers like Sammy. I'm talking about all the Chinese knock offs like the apad and those pos resistive things like the Disgo and the Next tab that are available in the UK and I'm sure elsewhere.
These things can't even run Froyo properly, what chance do they have of running Honeycomb?

WP7 on epic?

Is it possible? Id love to play with it lol
Edit
Someone delete this lol I change my mind
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
That's not going too happen. Windows is copywrited it'd be like stealing a copy of windows 7 and installing it on your pc. Illegal
As long it is a Windows 7 phone it has to be Windows OS. As for android which is opensource...

its really hard to do.... but
why change your mind? just becuase someone said it was illegal?
Actually, its in the process of being done on the EVO, Its not final if it will work or start, but it was able to boot. Maybe at the End of the Summer, it may be available for the Evo, and it might get ported to the epic, but the chances are highly unlikely.

One of my favorite features of the HTC phones was the ability to dual-boot android or WinMO. The Touch Pro was awesome with this. Unfortunately HTC doesn't want to make a decent phone with a keyboard anymore, and nobody else likes WinMO.
Launcher 7 is about as close as we'll come... I'm happy enough with it

Photon 4g

Ive hated motorola since I had the abomination that was the rokr. theyre phones have always screwed me over sooner or later on the software side, but this phone is calling to me.. its nice.. idk I think there's something wrong with me. I wouldnt get it over the gs2... but id definitely consider it. What do you guys think?
Hey I dont like motorola also!! But the photon looks like it kicks ass. i would consider it but my upgrades not till may and they're gonna have a better phone by then...

i dont like moto eather but Atrix was nice and screen on it almost as nice as my s amoled
To me, it just seems pretty basic. Not really feature packed.

That statement right there means you need to go into a store and play with one. It has a ton of features built in.
@OP: I share your exact same sentiment. I'm waiting for the within, and I hate motorola, but this phone is definitely enticing me. I feel like I'm under some sort of spell lol. The webtop alone is enough for me to consider it. It would be so nice to just throw it on the dock when I get home and fire up netflix or hulu. And have all my texts come through my tv. Ugh...its so tempting.

EXACTLY!!! The features on the photon are killer! WORLD PHONE?? GSM? The more I think about it lol
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Feels laggy, specially for being a dual core processor device. Screen is pretty good, nothing to write home about though sadly. Just using it for half hour made me appreciate my nexus way more, I wouldn't grtbit unless iI knew dev community was huge and custom roms were outout
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
The only interesting thing for me is has a sim slot, but nothing else to brag about.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
There isn't that's the thing lol other than the docking features and a few other things there's really nothing amazing about it.. but it still appeals to be for some huge reason. When the time comes to upgrade I'm gonna play with the photon first, then the within.

They say it is Moto Blur that causes the Motorola devices to be laggy. Which is 100% true. Look at the Atrix

MOTO has always had horrible UI's. That was true even for their basic flip phones. I had the MOTO KRKZR years ago with Sprint... and the lag was awful.

Samsung to buy MIUI

Could we possibly see SGS3 running MIUI as a default UI?

It looks like Sammy could also be buying up the best devs and putting them on lock down. Because I know from experience you cant work for a company and release your own brew of a product. Cause they also hired the dev from cyanogen.

I hope they do!!!! I would like to see them use MIUI optimize and make is AOSP compatible if possible. Touch wiz has too much headaches with apple plus, I hate the lockscreen and the interface has the slowest launcher and slows the phone down. This will make Samsung's phone far superior compared to the competition. Even with inferior software Samsung phone is faster than the competition image the possibilities. Samsung has a terrible reputation when it comes to the software on their devices this work help improve their terrible reputation and make them unbeatable.

I don't think it has to be with it being Miui, but more or less the probability of Samsung going after purchasing it. (But he's also said he doesn't care for Miui lol)
But also realistically speaking if Samsung were to buy Miui I don't think we'd get the one we'd all want to have but rather with Samsung's sometime erred perspective we'd get the bastard mixture of Miui and Touchwiz and it wouldn't be the best qualities of both.
