That's not going too happen. Windows is copywrited it'd be like stealing a copy of windows 7 and installing it on your pc. Illegal
As long it is a Windows 7 phone it has to be Windows OS. As for android which is opensource...

its really hard to do.... but
why change your mind? just becuase someone said it was illegal?
Actually, its in the process of being done on the EVO, Its not final if it will work or start, but it was able to boot. Maybe at the End of the Summer, it may be available for the Evo, and it might get ported to the epic, but the chances are highly unlikely.

One of my favorite features of the HTC phones was the ability to dual-boot android or WinMO. The Touch Pro was awesome with this. Unfortunately HTC doesn't want to make a decent phone with a keyboard anymore, and nobody else likes WinMO.

Incompatible hardware, closed source OS, and a dozen other reasons.

Wouldn't a dual boot of some other os be nice right about now? whats an os out we should get to dual boot?
None. No other device uses the same hardware as ours and writing drivers for an entire OS is an unbelievable undertaking we don't have the devs for.

They don't have a dev community so not really. So far there has been one successful "jailbreak" that ruins their ability to update forever. Not much of a future there.

That's what convinced me to come to Android. I had a Windows Mobile 6 phone, and after dual booting with Android for about a month, I realized I liked it a lot better and decided that my next phone would be an Android one. And that was a big deal for me, because I was developing apps for my Windows phone but had never made an Android app before.

That statement right there means you need to go into a store and play with one. It has a ton of features built in.
@OP: I share your exact same sentiment. I'm waiting for the within, and I hate motorola, but this phone is definitely enticing me. I feel like I'm under some sort of spell lol. The webtop alone is enough for me to consider it. It would be so nice to just throw it on the dock when I get home and fire up netflix or hulu. And have all my texts come through my tv. Ugh...its so tempting.

MiUi is mimics iOS5.x almost in every fashion. If you were to lay a iOS theme on it, and did a screen shot no one would know the difference.
Resolution
MiUi sounds like a great mimic, and I'm going to give it a try. But is there any way to make it the primary operating system of a phone like the Droid X? What is the fundamental difference between the phones that is preventing migration?
Try iLauncher by SUCKGAMONI on the Google Playstore. If you want the MIUI launcher here it is:View attachment MIUI_Launcher_3.1.apk

I am only asking out of curiosity and not out of a desire. I know that ios is not open source so making an ios rom is not realistic, but if super hacker really wanted to, could he or she make it work some how? Or what about a program which could sniff out the source code for closed source platforms?
I am very happy with Android no desire for iPhone(unless free) just asking

i dont think it would be too hard to port for a pro, the problem would be with drivers. how will iOS know what to do with your htc/samsung/etc hardware?
Theoretically, given unlimited amount of time and unlimited determination, one could make such a port work, at least partially.
Practically, given different HW of those phones, the amount of time and determination required to port anything newer than iOS3 are close to insane - unrealistic enough for anybody to want to do it.
If one were to say make a port of ios, would it be illegal to release it being that ios is closed source or would this fall under fair use? More than likely Apple would sue who ever released it lol

Challenge accepted! Lol Cupcake on the Evo. Wonder how that would run being that the Evo specs are well above what's needed. I'm assuming, if someone is actually able to get it to boot cupcake, that it would run about as well as running Windows 95 on one of today's typical PC specs.
In regards to the toolbox and apps. Would the flash 11.x work on GB as well? I thought flash stopped at 10.x for GB and 11.x was for 4.x.x (ICS and up).

I think it does run on GB. When I flash a rom I flash this group of app along with it. It shows up in my apps when I boot up but I am not sure of the last time I used any flash on my phone. I usually use my pc for the Internet.
Op has some more info. I will be working on it more over the next few days. This will have apps, tweaks, and tricks. The apps are one part of the toolbox that will start showing up in our roms. They will also be included in a flashable zip for those who are not using our roms. The second part of the toolbox will be exclusive to our roms. It consists of modifications to the installer script that will put a copy of your recovery log into a folder on your sdcard. It will also do a md5sum of the rom you are installing and put that in the folder also.
Remember this is a work in progress so don't expect it to be finished over night.
