[Q] i cant replace the recovery file ! - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

i tried to replace the original file with a new one but i have this message "error " or " system restricted " .

Do you have the phone rooted? If not, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
It worked for me on B138 rom.

It is not necessary to root the phone for this. Is the device mounted with read and write? If you do only have the permissions to read you cannot delete the file of course. Which OS do you have?

im using androzip to move the file .

Wait, what? You want to replace the file for the recovery-mode, right? You need to do this on a computer, you cannot do this on your phone. Start up your handset while holding vol+ and vol- at the same time. You will get a coloured screen and on the computer you can replace the file.

i did it !! but i cant do step 4 below i just get the same pink screen then nothing happened
1. Important: If your handset does not come with a sd-card you need to install one. Otherwise you cannot install a custom ROM.
2. Install this. You just need to replace one file (backup the old one on your computer before overwriting).
3. Download a zipfile containing the ROM you want to install and place it onto your sd-card. Do not unzip it.
4. Start the phone while holding the vol+-button, you will then boot into the recovery mode you installed in step 2.
5. I saved the install-instructions in case I forget them:

Ah alright.
The instruction is a bit misleading. Do only press the vol+ button, that will boot into recovery. Did you install the recovery from here, by the way? That is the newest.

I did it , thanks for your help . finally i can turn off orientation lock .
by the way , how i can get the US market with paid apps ??

Well if you browse the Market with an american IP-adress (VPN/Proxy) you should be good to go. But I don't know, maybe you run into other problems then. I have not tried this out...

i heard that there is a hacked version or maybe i have to root the phone to get this market .now i can get only free apps cuz i am not from US or a country that support this type of market .

[Q] Help Installing 2.3.1 Update

Hi. Can anyone help me out here?
I downloaded the file that a few users had linked to in the update thread (I can't get OTA because I'm in Japan).
I renamed it to "update" (I had it as update.zip but then it appeared as update.zip.zip).
I initiated the reboot mode, but a black screen with the Android character and a triangle with an exclamation mark inside it appears and the phone just stops. I needed to remove the battery to turn it off.
Is something going wrong here? My phone is factory unlocked and has not been rooted nor have I put any other modifications on it. Someone mentioned that the file is being stored on the "SD Card" portion of the storage and thus it has to be moved to a different directory?

[Q] Not bricked but "bootlooped"

So my buddy was going through his files and may have possibly deleted an important file (update.zip) from when I rooted his phone. I able to get into initial part of recovery (1. reboot system 2.apply update.zip 3. wipe system 4. wipe cache) but when I click apply update.zip I get failed to verify whole_file signature, instiallation aborted. Any ideas?

I'm not trying to flash a rom. I'm actually trying to just get it to boot up fully. I'm not in clockwork recovery. I'm at the menus when you power on the phone while holding the home button
EDIT: I usually don't post questions, I'm usually good about fixing them before having to come here for help.

haha, thanks homie. I've been looking up this sbf stuff I've been looking up pretty much states that I need to put the phone is PC mode (mass storage) and enable debbuging bridge, which I'm unable to do since I can't actually get the phone out of android system recovery.
NOTE: I CANNOT get out of system recovery. Which means I can't access bootstrap, any homescreen functions (PC mode, Debug bridge, etc...) and also unable to push any files to any part of the system files via. command.

turn off hold power down and camera and the power button that will take you to sbf mode then use rsdlite 4.8 or 4.9 make sure you have the correct drivers for the x (32bit or 64bit whichever you use) and the 2.3.340 sbf file. when u plug ur phone that you put in sbf mode open up rsdlite ur phone should show up. click on the "..." button and chose that sbf file you downloaded. click start. when its finished it will bootloop. pull battery, put battery back in hold home and power when the triangle "!" droid pops up hit the search button volume down to factory/data reset reboot phone, bam you'll be on factory 2.2

Thank you,
Just a little note 4.7 works just as well as 4.8 and 4.9. Just thought I'd point that out
While I appreciate the help, this phone is pretty much done for until I get a new battery, will not charge high enough to sbf it.
RDS lite isn't showing my device, help plz? got all the proper files, but unable to get usb bridge going since I can't get into the main OS
You don't need USB bridge, sbf mode has it's own set of drivers that may or may not need to be downloaded manually. Try plugging it in and then going into device manager and making sure it's being recognized, if it shows up as a yellow question mark, you need to install the drivers manually.
Success. Thanx for the help guys. My buddy's phone is in working order again. One last question...is it safe for a reroot?

Can't pass HTC welcome screen

Hi, Guys
I was trying to root the phone by using the hack-ace.cmd and when I get into the final step - updating the ROM from SD card...I accidentally pull out the cable and then the screen stays on the welcome HTC logo forever.
I have tried the volume down button + power or home + power or even re-root the phone. It came back HTC logo again. But the screen will change to something else when I trying to re-root the phone. The process acually successful, but it still report errors in the very end saying "USB connection fail" or "Golden Card fail".
Here are the steps I followed,
Steps for this process:
1. Download the Advanced Ace Hack Kit
2. Extract the files
3. Install Desire HD drivers in /tools/windrivers/
4. Connect the device via USB and turn on USB Debugging in Settings-Applications-Development
5. Run the hack-ace.cmd as Administrator and start the process by typing "1" and "Enter"
6. The process will run and will take about 5-6 minutes to complete
7. Download your ROM of choice, do not extract it, and copy the .zip to the device SD card
8. Rename the file to "update.zip"
9. Power off your device
10. To boot in the bootloader, perform a battery pull, reinstate the battery, and hold the volume down and power buttons
11. Using the volume buttons to navigate, and power button to make selections, boot into Recovery, clear the cache, and select 'install update from sdcard'.
12. When the flashing process has completed, reboot your device and wait about 3-4 minutes for it to boot fully
13. You device is now rooted and has a custom ROM installed
I strongly believe, I forgot to power off the device and go straight to the bootloader and pressed the install update.zip from SD card.
Then I also believe that I used a corrupted ROM from a crap website, which is about 75Mb...Not normal, right?
The screen turn into HTC logo and I waited for 2mins and seen no changes, hence I pulled the cable out....
The final result is that I always get the HTC logo even if I tried to install new ROM file downloaded from a valid site.
Now the problem solved. Love your guys

Dude here is the rooted stock ATT ROM it includes the radio. Just download place in root of gold card then go to bootloader with power - volume button. it will recognize the PD98IMG file, will ask to load volume up for yes then let it do its thing. Please search and read before you attempt anything with phone. AS ADVICED ON XDA FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK.

This is the rooted ATT updated ROM with radio do not rename file just place in root of SD (Not in any folder) Good Luck.
Hello, please look at my original post. I have edited and provide more history. Cheers
Hi mate, I am still little bit confused. You said "place in root of gold card" then "do not rename file just place in root of SD"........I am not professional, but I heard the Goldencard before.. Should I just download the PD98IMG.zip then send it to SD card then go to the bootloader see how it goes?

Yes, u need to flash PD98IMG.ZIP to have your device working back. If your phone is branded , it will require gold card which u should create it one for your device to recognize it or u may download the above mentioned zip file to ur pc then copy to ur sd card first, and get the phone into bootloader mode to see If it could recognize in case ur phone is not branded, If it is so, then u can save time for not creating goldcard and progress to flash the rom from as card.
Remember no need to rename the file. Ur responding in this thread is on & off, users here could not help u when u urge to get ur phone working back.

Something must be wrong with the recovery files i've been downloading... i used rom manager to reboot in to recovery and the phone simply stays stuck @ Huawei logo... And if i try to power on + Vol+ it won't start at all. You don't have a working Recovery image somewhere by any chance?
Edit...
What firmware you are using?
If it's B522 or newer, do this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457490
Now, turn your phone off and take battery out. Hold volume+, volume- and power button. Your phone should now turn into pink screen. connect it to computer via USB. On your computer go disk(phone)>image and replace recovery image with cwm. Don't forget rename new recovery to recovery.img take battery out to turn off phone.
If not working I suggest you re-flash firmware, but I have still one method left if you don't want to do it.

I'd say re-download and re-copy the recovery.img file using ES File Explorer, check the permissions, and then reboot your phone.
I found that I need to hold down Vol + and power for a few seconds even AFTER the Huawei logo is already showing.
ROM Manager doesn't detect your phone so I wouldn't use that.
Hope this helps

I had the same problem with mu Huawei U8800 (normal not pro), when I updated to 2.3 back in march this year, what I did, I went back and reinstalled the Beta version that came back in 2011 (v18) as I had saved it on my school computer (you can try and also search on google if there are some huawei beta roms for u8800 still available as I got mine from a past backup), then with that I was able to boot holding the volume + and - keys together with the power button I got the pink screen, and now I was able to copy and replace the CWM 'recovery' image when I connected the USB cable to the computer, Then I removed the cable and when I pressed the power button and the volume button + button i got CWM. To all the developers who came up with this. You are all amazing!

Messed bootloader, cant downgrade, Bricked. Upgrade ICS. SOLVED

I triead a lot of thing, but cant downgrade to offical gingerbread, to update ISC.

This is my story.
At first i tried install any stock rom, but cant get them installed, cause with 2gb sd, i get always pink screen.
Then tried put /dload into inner card, root directory. Installed Estonia Elisa (stock) like charm. Updated to 2.3.5 also, everything ok. but when tried to get back unlocked pinkscreen vith this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457490&page=6
then in my case, it just bootloop. Also as i remember, cant go to pink screen /image.
So installed ubuntu and there i can see partitions. Replaced recovery with newest, get all back. 2.3.5 (installed again), pink screen locked.
So i root phone as in tutorial, and replaced recovery into folder as writed in tutorial.
Then BAM! at first recovery screen (+ power) blue screen, and locked pink.
Then (+ power) stopped working. but pink still work.
But figured out how install firmware updates.
from inner card, no sd in slot - install (ofc. failes)but this method work.
with outer sd. SD in my case MUST BE 512mb only, so it will install. (failes in my case). with battery or usb cable - no effect
In linux cant see partition also and it shows just U8120 device instead of 8800
Totally messed up bootloader or partition. I dont know.
Thanks to my hero dancer_69 he somehow found that china page.
Downloaded http://filespart.com/dl/ds7ltr.html
putted into /dload that update what in archive. just only this file from zip.
and i got back unlocked pinkscreen. Replaced /image folder (jeah i had some backup)
Putted again 2.3.5 into outer sd card and installed as charm.
After that everything goes normal. As followed tutorial.
root, recovery, aurora.
After aurora was installed, i waited about 15 min and disconnected power.
after that factory reset and that it.
So if you cant install firmware update from sd card. Dont use 2gb or bigger. 512 works fine, instead of 2gb. or try differet cards.

Oxygen is .32 so it's upgrade if you install gingerbread.
Try to find B518 version of gingerbread because you don't need to root it. Just install CWM 5.5.0.4 and flash aurora ics.
So,
1. make folder "dload" to your external sdcard.
2. put update.app file in dload folder.
3. turn off phone and start it holding volume+ and volume- buttons and power button.
4. update should start
i have rooted ideos.
with - + power i get pink screen.
So i have B518 but its app, i dont know how o install it.
edit: or can u add me to msn: [email protected]
Edit: now i can only go to pink screen and just IDEOS screen, cant reach recovery .... deam, can someone help me ?

So you're doing something wrong.
format the memory card into the PC again and put the folder inside dload ...
Then does it again as I said ... data cable connected to the pc ... vol +, vol- and power ... update has to get in that way!
ill try again after format.
using U8800V100R001C00B522G001 (Normal Gingerbread).zip

You must copy recovery.img (5.5.0.4) over default recovery.img on the pink screen through USB. Then you can boot in to recovery (volume up + power)

That doesn't give you recovery, that only restores unlocked bootloader for those who installed stock 2.3.5 higher than beta 1..
To install recovery, you must copy recovery.img v5.5.0.4 (it's in the dev section) over original recovery.img that's inside the "image" folder of the pink screen, using USB.
After that, start the phone pressing and keeping pressed vol + / power at the same time until recovery comes up.
i did it! tried also older ones, but nothing.

Well, I don't know what else is failing... bear in mind that for recovery to boot you have to keep pressed vol + / power button simultaneously for quite a bit. Even if normal recovery doesn't show up, huawei's recovery should...
+ power - it shows IDEOS and shuts down after 15 sec.

Sorry, don't know how to help anymore... I suggest you install official stock 2.3.5 beta 1 again and copy recovery to pink more... maybe the bootloader tutorial you followed changed something.
