So my buddy was going through his files and may have possibly deleted an important file (update.zip) from when I rooted his phone. I able to get into initial part of recovery (1. reboot system 2.apply update.zip 3. wipe system 4. wipe cache) but when I click apply update.zip I get failed to verify whole_file signature, instiallation aborted. Any ideas?

I'm not trying to flash a rom. I'm actually trying to just get it to boot up fully. I'm not in clockwork recovery. I'm at the menus when you power on the phone while holding the home button
EDIT: I usually don't post questions, I'm usually good about fixing them before having to come here for help.

haha, thanks homie. I've been looking up this sbf stuff I've been looking up pretty much states that I need to put the phone is PC mode (mass storage) and enable debbuging bridge, which I'm unable to do since I can't actually get the phone out of android system recovery.
NOTE: I CANNOT get out of system recovery. Which means I can't access bootstrap, any homescreen functions (PC mode, Debug bridge, etc...) and also unable to push any files to any part of the system files via. command.

Thank you,
Just a little note 4.7 works just as well as 4.8 and 4.9. Just thought I'd point that out
While I appreciate the help, this phone is pretty much done for until I get a new battery, will not charge high enough to sbf it.
RDS lite isn't showing my device, help plz? got all the proper files, but unable to get usb bridge going since I can't get into the main OS
You don't need USB bridge, sbf mode has it's own set of drivers that may or may not need to be downloaded manually. Try plugging it in and then going into device manager and making sure it's being recognized, if it shows up as a yellow question mark, you need to install the drivers manually.
Success. Thanx for the help guys. My buddy's phone is in working order again. One last question...is it safe for a reroot?

Buddies,
can anyone upload the original roms for Milestone XT720? (SG, Kr, and other)
So we can do more testing worry free. If anything goes wrong, we can just flash it back to original. It would be nicer if someone can also show how to flash the rom.

Flashing Guide by Hahutzy

Alright, I just crashed my phone into an infinite FC loop by messing with system/app, so a reflash was in order.
Here's how I successfully flashed it back to stock using Windows 7 32bit (dense text ahead):
1) Search somewhere along the lines of "RSDLite - download here" on google
2) Go inside first link, download the file that's named somewhere along the lines of "RSDLite_4.5.3.zip"
3) Install it.
4) Go to http://and-developers.com/sbf:xt720
5) Download the 2nd Full Flash rom, the one where the provider is "Southeast Asia"
6) Unzip that file, you now have a .sbf folder (not file)
7) Put that .sbf folder in C:\Users\Admin\My Documents
8) Shut down phone, take out battery
9) Hold Power + Volume Down + Camera buttons all at once
10) Put in the battery while holding those buttons
11) Phone is now in bootloader mode (screen looks like a command prompt)
12) Release the buttons, and plug USB to computer and phone
13) Open RSD Lite, your phone should be detected as connected (Device name was like "S OMAP 3440" or some BS like that)
14) Click "..." to browse for the .sbf file in C:\Users\Admin\My Documents
15) In RSD Lite, click to highlight your connected XT720, and then click "Start". The first column beside the connected phone should now have a green icon thing, and the ROM is being flashed.
16) DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PHONE, THE CABLE, OR THE COMPUTER! (I went and took a dump)
17) When the "Status" column in RSD Lite says "Please manually power up this phone", so shut it down and power it again. Note: The status stays in "Checksum Group 37" for a verrrrryyyy long time before saying "Rebooting". I thought it got stuck there, but it ended up ok.
18) Your XT720 is now reflashed to stock.
19) You can now close RSD Lite. It will complain saying you will damage the attached device, but I pulled it out wayyyy before this (I unhooked it when it told me to reboot manually) and my XT720 is not dead. You may choose to close RSD Lite before unhooking your XT720.
20) Post your results in this thread and confirm or reject my procedure.
spiderx_mm, you may quote this on your first post for others' easy access to this procedure if you so wish to.

Hi. Can anyone help me out here?
I downloaded the file that a few users had linked to in the update thread (I can't get OTA because I'm in Japan).
I renamed it to "update" (I had it as update.zip but then it appeared as update.zip.zip).
I initiated the reboot mode, but a black screen with the Android character and a triangle with an exclamation mark inside it appears and the phone just stops. I needed to remove the battery to turn it off.
Is something going wrong here? My phone is factory unlocked and has not been rooted nor have I put any other modifications on it. Someone mentioned that the file is being stored on the "SD Card" portion of the storage and thus it has to be moved to a different directory?

your not holding the vol up earlier enough do the following:
1) take out the battery
2) press and hold down the vol up button
3) w/o releasing rhe vol up button, put the battery in.
4) within 3 seconds a black screen will come up with white text.
5) do the sbf
i have bricked the bravo so hard during development and always been able to get to a bootloader screen. one time i bricked so hard it went directly to the bootloader, so you def. can get in to sbf, unless you vol rocker is broken, then you may be screwed. in that case plug int he phone, let it bootloop and try to start the sbf, it might reboto into bootloader for you, but probably not.

so then you should reboot holding vol down and then the recovety will load.
hit vol up and vol down at the same time to load options.
then wipe cache and wipe data.
wiping data is prob only way u can fix it if you already successfully flashed the sbf.

Thanks for the help.
perform the sbf file down twice again but the phone only puts the M, will not let me enter recovery, I think it is a complete brick and not know what else to do.
Too bad there is no sbf2.1 for testing.
hmmm, unless you are going straight to a bootloader screen you should still be able to enter recovery. my only guess is the update was in the middle of updating your recovery when something went wrong and the recovery image is corrupt.
sbf not working plus no access to recovery sounds like a real true brick possibly.
make sure you hold down the vol down and w/o letting go you put the battery in, when you are in this bootloop that is the only way to be sure you get in to recovery.
what happens when you hold down vol down and put the battery in? does it do anything different at all?

The phone was damaged because it was downloaded in the middle of an upgrade.
when I hold the power and volume down, I put the battery and three seconds later reappears M, does not load the recovery.
I think I'm going to give up.
May be taking it to a store at & t service, can do something?
Take it to the at&t store. Since it is so badly damaged due to the update "failing" they can replace it with warranty

I'm a rep @ an AT&T corporate location. Yea, if that update failed, we take care of it. I assume you're referring to the OTA 2.2.
Reviving an old thread as where comeranas left off is where I am at.
Wife has a new phone already so I am just trying to revive this one. If not, it goes into garbage.
The screen has been powering up to the Motorola logo only. I can hold the volume up and power button to get to the bootloader/usb screen.
I cannot get to the recovery screen by holding the volume down and power button. No matter how many times I try and in what combination, it always powers up to the Motorola logo.
I ran the sbf file on it twice with RSD Lite and each time when it gets to the part of re-booting it says "Phone is being rebooted."
Then after the progress gets to a 100%, it says, "Please manually power up this phone."
The Motorola logo is on the screen and I have tried to simply push the power button, pull the battery and re-insert it and pull the battery, hold the volume button down and re-insert the battery all while still hooked up to the computer.
After a few minutes the Results box says Passed. But the phone still goes no further than the Motorola logo.
So as of now, the phone still only powers up to the Motorola logo and goes no further.
Naturally it had to start acting up 2 weeks out of warranty. Dang blang warranty timers installed in these phones. lol!
You can try sbf_flash on Linux and both the full and fixed sbf with it. I'm on phone now, so I can't give good instructions or links, but sbf_flash is around in one of the recovery threads here, and the fixed sbf is at quarx2k.ru and my rom mirror (see signature).
If you need it, I can make a Linux Live tutorial for sbf flash, only requirement would be 512mb usb stick or memory card.
I once had to flash sbf 3 times in a row to fix a brick from an accidental Defy kernel flash in cwm.
So the sbf files you are referring to are different than the 2.2.1 sbf file HERE?
I don't run Linux on my comp.
I'll look at the fixed sbf file in your sig. Maybe I just need to run it over and over again until the phone pops. lol! Thanks.

The fixed sbf contains the bootloader and kernel and it for when you write to either of them and need to reflash back to stock. Handy for when you accidentally flash a Defy from with a boot.img
You don't have to install linux, just use a Live CD and place sbf_flash and the sbf files on a memory stick. Once the Live CD boots, the memory stick should be on the desktop. Open the folder and right click "Open Terminal Here". In the terminal first type:
su
then
chmod 0777 ./sbf_flash
then
./sbf_flash ./fixed_bravo_sbf.sbf
or
./sbf_flash ./p4_kobe_umts_kobe_user_3.4.2-125_KOB_FFW-4_product-keys-ATT-US_ATT-signed.sbf
Just download one of these for your pc's architecture, if you're unsure, then any of the 32-bits will work.
http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php
The reason I suggest using sbf_flash and Linux is that its supposed to fix phones that sbf flashing with RDS Lite won't fix, and it'll flash files that RDS won't like modded root sbfs. Apparently it flashes differently. Don't ask me the difference cause I don't know.
Good Luck.
You said that you couldn't get to the Stock recovery menu, your volume button isn't broke is it? And have you tried up+power and down+power? Kicking it? JK, but throwing my old razr flip phone into the couch as hard as I could used to fix it....it would freeze on boot, but a good toss and it was good as new.
Thanks, gonna give it a try.
I am kinda wondering at this point if the down volume is broke. Though if it was, she would have said something about it before it went down.
I did smack it a few times to no avail. lol!
i tried to replace the original file with a new one but i have this message "error " or " system restricted " .
Do you have the phone rooted? If not, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
It worked for me on B138 rom.
It is not necessary to root the phone for this. Is the device mounted with read and write? If you do only have the permissions to read you cannot delete the file of course. Which OS do you have?
im using androzip to move the file .
Wait, what? You want to replace the file for the recovery-mode, right? You need to do this on a computer, you cannot do this on your phone. Start up your handset while holding vol+ and vol- at the same time. You will get a coloured screen and on the computer you can replace the file.

i did it !! but i cant do step 4 below i just get the same pink screen then nothing happened
1. Important: If your handset does not come with a sd-card you need to install one. Otherwise you cannot install a custom ROM.
2. Install this. You just need to replace one file (backup the old one on your computer before overwriting).
3. Download a zipfile containing the ROM you want to install and place it onto your sd-card. Do not unzip it.
4. Start the phone while holding the vol+-button, you will then boot into the recovery mode you installed in step 2.
5. I saved the install-instructions in case I forget them:

I did it , thanks for your help . finally i can turn off orientation lock .
by the way , how i can get the US market with paid apps ??
Well if you browse the Market with an american IP-adress (VPN/Proxy) you should be good to go. But I don't know, maybe you run into other problems then. I have not tried this out...
i heard that there is a hacked version or maybe i have to root the phone to get this market .now i can get only free apps cuz i am not from US or a country that support this type of market .
Hi, Guys
I was trying to root the phone by using the hack-ace.cmd and when I get into the final step - updating the ROM from SD card...I accidentally pull out the cable and then the screen stays on the welcome HTC logo forever.
I have tried the volume down button + power or home + power or even re-root the phone. It came back HTC logo again. But the screen will change to something else when I trying to re-root the phone. The process acually successful, but it still report errors in the very end saying "USB connection fail" or "Golden Card fail".
Here are the steps I followed,
Steps for this process:
1. Download the Advanced Ace Hack Kit
2. Extract the files
3. Install Desire HD drivers in /tools/windrivers/
4. Connect the device via USB and turn on USB Debugging in Settings-Applications-Development
5. Run the hack-ace.cmd as Administrator and start the process by typing "1" and "Enter"
6. The process will run and will take about 5-6 minutes to complete
7. Download your ROM of choice, do not extract it, and copy the .zip to the device SD card
8. Rename the file to "update.zip"
9. Power off your device
10. To boot in the bootloader, perform a battery pull, reinstate the battery, and hold the volume down and power buttons
11. Using the volume buttons to navigate, and power button to make selections, boot into Recovery, clear the cache, and select 'install update from sdcard'.
12. When the flashing process has completed, reboot your device and wait about 3-4 minutes for it to boot fully
13. You device is now rooted and has a custom ROM installed
I strongly believe, I forgot to power off the device and go straight to the bootloader and pressed the install update.zip from SD card.
Then I also believe that I used a corrupted ROM from a crap website, which is about 75Mb...Not normal, right?
The screen turn into HTC logo and I waited for 2mins and seen no changes, hence I pulled the cable out....
The final result is that I always get the HTC logo even if I tried to install new ROM file downloaded from a valid site.
Now the problem solved. Love your guys

Pull out the battery first, put back, Volume down + power button together at the same time.
Let me know if you have followed this so far and could get it working?

you have gone into stock recovery not a custom recovery, you could flash stock firmware from boot loader i think but you cant install custom roms untill your get custom recovery + root + eng s off
hi, thank you for your reply. I have downloaded the Radio.img. and I have tried to wipe the data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition. Then I have transferred a valid ROM into SD card and press "Apply sdcard: update.zip" It returned "Signature verification failed, installation aborbed" The phone before was on usb debugging mode and has been rooted successully. Now, I think the original system is died.... Please advise further. Cheers

Dude here is the rooted stock ATT ROM it includes the radio. Just download place in root of gold card then go to bootloader with power - volume button. it will recognize the PD98IMG file, will ask to load volume up for yes then let it do its thing. Please search and read before you attempt anything with phone. AS ADVICED ON XDA FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK.

This is the rooted ATT updated ROM with radio do not rename file just place in root of SD (Not in any folder) Good Luck.
Hello, please look at my original post. I have edited and provide more history. Cheers
Hi mate, I am still little bit confused. You said "place in root of gold card" then "do not rename file just place in root of SD"........I am not professional, but I heard the Goldencard before.. Should I just download the PD98IMG.zip then send it to SD card then go to the bootloader see how it goes?

Yes, u need to flash PD98IMG.ZIP to have your device working back. If your phone is branded , it will require gold card which u should create it one for your device to recognize it or u may download the above mentioned zip file to ur pc then copy to ur sd card first, and get the phone into bootloader mode to see If it could recognize in case ur phone is not branded, If it is so, then u can save time for not creating goldcard and progress to flash the rom from as card.
Remember no need to rename the file. Ur responding in this thread is on & off, users here could not help u when u urge to get ur phone working back.

I am picking you need to install the right HTC driver, there should be one on the hack kit, if not google it, look for version one. Once I installed it
It carried on and rooted without issue.

Go to desktop, right click on my computer select manage, select device manager from left locate device driver from the list in middle panel, locate the htc usb it may have a yellow triangle next to it, right click and select update software Try this first before downloading another driver, if this doesn't work then you well have to locate new driver
Hope this helps
