Needing convinced to keep my GS2.. - Galaxy S II General

Hey folks
I've noticed myself being pulled in more and more by getting an iPhone. Having previously owned a Touch Diamond (WinMo), Xperia X10 and mini then a GS1 and finally this phone, I've owned throughout all this change an iPod touch and also an iPad for the best part.
What I've found is the Apple products seem more... complete. The user experience is significantly more seemless.
Please don't turn this into an "I hate apple so keep the Gs2" thread cause truthfully I hate Apple as a company but what they produce is actually very good.
So, having rooted the phone and flashing custom ROMs, can someone advise tthings I could do to this thing to make it a bit more user friendly? I've had MIUI on it and when it works 100% ill have it on but until then, to prevent me sswapping this for an i4 can you guys advise on mods etc that might make the gs2 experience a bit better?
Regards

why should we bother? Get an iPhone. see who cares.

I had IPhone for 3 years. Great device. No way could I leave this for it again.
If iPhone5 is 4'3" screen, 1.5 dual core processor, accelerated browser, as easy to jailbreak as this is to root, I'd consider it.

I kind of have to agree with the above poster. Why should we convince you? You are supposed to know what you like and want, not the other way around.

Problem
I really think this should not be a problem

Okay, well scrap this post. Sorry for trying to ask a question that, regardless of what anyone says, a lot of people wanted to ask. Cheers.

A lot of people want to ask how to make SGS2 Ui more user friendly? I consider it to be one of the most user friendly user interfaces there are. The only one even more user friendly is HTC Sense UI.
It uses the same type of movement as the Iphone does, holding a button a few seconds etc. I love it.
I find the Iphone to be annoying and to closed for it to be comfortable, unless you jailbreak it. Which has been getting harder and harder to do lately. The Iphone 5 is coming soon and there is a large change it will take several weeks before even a small jailbreak is available for that one.
As far as I am aware, the Iphone also lacks Customization, like flashing new firmware or roms etc.
But in the end its just a matter of personal preference and nothing we say can change that. You are the one that needs to feel happy with a phone, if you are not happy with SGS2, then switch to what phone you think will make you happy.

Above post was what I was looking for. Thanks bud

I dont know why you would need convincing from anyone else to keep something that does not meet your expectations or your needs, if you can return the S2 then do so now and get the Iphone and be happy there, its not about what phone you have its about how you area able to use it at its full potential w/o relying on anything else.

I would be happy to give your S2 the loving home it deserves...

Here is my way to convince you, if you can find a way to Jailbreak iPhone5 with out Comex help or any other 3rd Party help. Just do it yourself than Leeching off Comex. Yea I will say go for it.
If NOT, drop your SGS2 in to the Atlantic Ocean depth to the Abyss, that you can never get it again. Now you got a choice to get iPhone5. Selling it off eBay or Craigslist DO NOT COUNT!!
Or just Love your current SGS2 to the best you can, and ditch the Steve Job Ghetto iPhone5 good bye. Since Ghetto Steve Job left the floor...maybe due to health or something personal who know, Human Made NEWs are all Entertainment to people ears and eyes!!

Indeed, With Comex gone jailbreaking the Iphone 5 (you know they hired him to prevent the jailbreaks on upcoming versions) is going to be a lot harder. In such a case samsungs open approach is much and much better. Thats why i love Android

I had a 3g and a Iphone 4. Never been happier than I am right now with sgs2. I like to tinker with phone and change roms every day. Can't do that with Iphone. Love the screen on this phone, love the speed, very easy to work with. Sgs2 is the best phone on the planet right now in my opinion.

Seriously??? who cares?? get what you want and then use it. then i figure useless threads like this will die off.

If you mind not having a microSD Slot, great features, flexibility, if you prefer to only scroll icons on a single estate, if you don't like super amoled, you move to iphone
BTW, what the heck do you bring such stupid questions to such a forum. You should know what you want, then seek solutions to what you have in the respective. Forums

I think you should write down all you can think about the pros and cons of both phones, and weigh what is most important to you. That will put your mind to peace once and for all. For me, the much lighter weight, far less radiation and greater flexibility (e.g. drag & drop rather than itunes) far outweigh any other smartphones.
I don't get the smooth and seamless aspect that I keep hearing about though. I've tried the ipad and have an ipod nano...the devices have limited features and are underwhelming. Perhaps you've read about many "issues" with the SGSII and the need for tweaks to make it perform more smoothly. I do suspect users of android phones--who have done the necessary research--are probably perfectionists in the first place, who scrutinise everything that they own and enjoy the ability to customise the phone to their needs.

Again, above poster. Thank you
Gonna keep hold of it for now, spend ssome time at work tonight figuring out some tweeks etc and go from there.
Those that have been extremely unhelpful, why don't you just not reply?
Anyways, can a mod please lock this thread? Don't see the need for further flaming. Again, the helpful ones, thank you.

Vibrant(any android competitor) vs iPhone on AT&T... trying to educate a coworker

I overheard a dude at work who is looking to get his first smartphone (on AT&T)that he was probably going to give-in and get an iPhone.
I asked him why he wanted the iPhone and he said because no other phone out there can touch it from his impression.
I asked him what it had that other phones out there didn't have and he obviously didn't do his homework yet, though he still had already developed the "desire" to get the iPhone. I know it's because of advertising, but the real thing was I couldn't nail down exactly why an Android phone would be better, or even what phone would trump it on AT&T...
The Captivate doesn't have a front facing camera which I believe is kind of necessary to really stack up against Apple's phone.
Anyone have any simple advice I can give this guy to stay away from Apple? He is obviously not that smart on phones, so I know he is adverse to custom ROMS unless I can convince him otherwise. Thanks.
Let him get what he wants unless you wanna have to hear him complain when he can't figure this or that out or if this app is not available. Less stress for you down the line. To each his own.

True, android only better if you give it a chance and willing to play around.

If he really wants the iPhone, he should get the iPhone.
If he isn't really sure what he wants, I would suggest that he go to the store and try out different phones in person. Sometimes a phone isn't what you expect when you finally get to play with it.
Also, I think if you're going to upgrade, make sure there are at least 2 phones you're interested in. In case you hate your first choice, you can take it back during the return period and exchange it for your second choice.

Thanks, good advice.
I would only try and direct him away from locking in on a contract on an iPhone that's been out 6+ months when the next iPhone is right around the corner. May as well lock in on a brand new device to get the most out of it.
He should get the iPhone. It's a great phone and perfect for people who dont know how or dont care to modify their phone.
I prefer my Vibrant and wouldnt trade it for an iPhone 4G, but thats me, and I understand that for most people out there an iPhone is better, even if only because it makes them feel good to have the fashionable bling. To each his own.
-edit-
Agree with the poster above. Convince him to wait a few months for the next iPhone.

That is the best advise possible. My coworker fell in love with my vibrant and wanted the equivalent on verizon. Since then every day there is new questions. I like helping people, but not a single day goes by wiouth something new to ask me. Be prepared for that.
I would let him know about a little phone coming out next week-ish called the Motorola Atrix w/ its dual-core awesomeness. Otherwise let him follow the cult of jobs.
I think the op just really wants to show him that there are other phones out there just as good as the iphone.
I know a co-worker of mine felt the same way and after talking with him he has now decided to go with the htc thunderbolt.
I agree with everyone else its just insane to go with a old phone when I new one is just around the corner. I swear if the 2g was still out everyone would still buy that

its very simple and others might not like my thought process but..
iphone is for simple minded sheep, android is for smart people.
if he has his heart set on an iphone, do not try and convince him, because if you make all these arguments of android being greater (and since he does not know his way around a phone), he is going to get a captivate, probably with android 2.1 + lag + gps problems + w/e other problems it came with, and i doubt he would know how to flash a new rom etc.
Then you will be 'that bastard that convinced me to throw away $200 plus my upgrade', and then one day he will climb up you window with a chainsaw (or machete if he is not that strong) and ....
Im not going to lie but the iphone is a pretty powerful machine. Dont hold me to this but i have heard that the processor is underclocked to 1 ghz to save battery..
But the os is so locked down which makes it better in some ways and worse in others.. if you havent noticed, the iphone sets the standard for smartphones, its always "well it compares to.the iphone this.... iphone that..." .
Apple does their research right and always sets the bar for smartphones. The reason it is not customizable is so that everything will work correctly. I personally don't prefer that I can't change anything (without jailbreaking of course, which is a pain in the ass) .
I kind of have the best of both worlds with an ipod touch 4g. Its very very fast and has excellent battery life but its just so boring..
So if he's not tech savvy then tell him to wait for the next iphone. However if he is lol tell him to wait for the samsung galaxy s 2.
Sent from Bionix powered vibrant! If I helped, hit the thanks button!
Ios is so ugly compared to what we have with android. It is so busy. I never noticed until I got used to android, but now when I see someone using an iphone I can't help but think that the screen is annoyingly crammed full of icons. Who wants to look at all that junk?
Also the screen is noticably smaller
To me a 4" android screen is infinitely more plesant to use.

SGS2 vs IPhone 4

Hm I would sell it and either wait for an iPhone 5 June/July or take the SGS II. It is just about your needs. Big hands and gorgeous screen --> SGS II
Most beautiful apps and polished and awesome build quality: iPhone
decide what you really need and then choose your phone. Making a list should be helpful =)

SGSII but since it's not out yet, Cappy all the way.
iOS and Android, I will pick Android.
Apple and Samsung, I will pick Apple.
Also.. the iPhone 4 screen shatters with barely a strong glance at the GLASS screen.
Don't mention the word Apple or iPhone on xda. The mentally challenged will come out and bite rabidly. A better place would be HowardForums.
I would sell the iPhone 4 if you are comfortable with an x10. A sealed box will sell for a good price. Then you can wait for the SGS2. The iPhone 5 probably won't be announced until June, which is quite a while. I wouldn't buy anything right now though, since the stuff on the market right now isn't really an upgrade from what you already have.

OP, if you like the SGS2 then wait for it, or wait for iP5 see what apple puts out.
I am doing that right now, between SGS2 or iP5.
Most of the stuff you will get here is android fans, but in reality apple has much better hardware than anything on android (my opinion). The OS, well they are pretty similar, if you want your phone to just work apple all the way, if you want to customized then go android.
Just be aware that iPhone can also be customized by jailbreaking.
I have a 3GS that's almost 2 years old and it's working as good as day one.

Reality and personal opinion don't mix sadly. Anyway, depends what you mean by "hardware". Apple A4 was Samsung's Hummingbird, just with a lower clock and a slower GPU. Overall build quality may be better... until it falls and you're left with cracked glass all over the phone. Antennagate? Not sure about the much better now...
Software and integration is another story, that's where iOS definitely wins.

It's all relative to needs.
Sure, the iP is a pretty piece of hardware backed up but the brand fandom. everyone has it, everyone wants one.
As far as jailbreaking goes, the cat and mouse update/jailbreak game with apple gets old really fast... Every update of iOS patches something that dev team fixes and then they fix it and apple releases another update and .... you get the idea.
Jailbreaking every two months, playing with the unlocked baseband and risking ending up with a brick is no fun.
Personally I've decided to move away from every apple product, because apple doesn't necessarily have the greatest most advanced hardware, what they do have is massive marketing department with lots of talented people to make people want those devices (just look at apple product placement in the media).
In the end, it's a matter of usability, preference and what works for the individual; at this point in time, the iP4 is clearly outdated compared (hardware wise) to the devices coming out right now or in the coming month (Atrix, SGS2, etc...) and they will have had 6-7 months to prepare and get the iP5 design ready and produced by June-July-Sept with better hardware based on what they saw coming out from the competition at the CES and other events. By the time apple is done promoting their revolutionary iP5, Motorola, HTC and Samsuncg will have come up with somthing better based on the iP5 specs...
The cel phone war will never end, it will be the eternal peeing contest between large companies. As far as the consumer is concerned, we're just trapped in a vicious cycle we have created.
For me what weighs in, is the ability to have full control of my device. Therefore iP is a no go and thus a lesser device in my perception. Atrix was on top of the list until the Moto fiasco with the signed bootloader. The remaining option is the SGS2 depending on how easy it will be to update without relying on Samsung to do so.
On a side note, I've been using a iP3G since it came out and haven't upgraded the device, so I've been with it for almost 4 years; and seeing all these new android devices coming out everyday makes me hate it more day by day.
Android, for me, offers many more possibilities of growth than iOS will ever be able give me. I am not limited by a company as far as what I can do with the hardware that I hold in my hands.
I would rather take an operating system that is designed to let me do anything to it per my own needs and requirements than one that is marketed to the masses for mass consumption. There is nothing wrong with either, it is all preference. Apps fail to interest me as I have a busy and fun enough life to not care about too many of them In fact many people around me have pages of apps which i rarely see being launched except for the odd score checking/email app.
There is no point in comparison of the phone. In fact I would like it if Android makes its own features and chooses its direction instead of following iOS.
Well I would say to just use for a little while and see if you like it. If you do, great. If you don't, sell it.
Either way you could sell one now or keep both and sell both layer then the SG2 comes out.
Did anyone get the iPhone reference in Archer? I totally loled

Switch to iPhone 4?

Good day all,
I've had my Galaxy S II for about 2 months now and I love how it works.
But still, it seems that my hands are a bit too small to type good with just 1 hand..
Therefore I was thinking of getting it replaced with an iPhone 4.
Now I was wondering if you guys think I would regret it?
The thing I'm most worried about is the speed of the web browsing. Is it really that slow on the iPhone that I will have to wait much longer than on Galaxy S II?
Also, does anyone know if I can get text reflow on iPhone when I jailbreak it?
Thank you very much already for any answers.
Kind regards,
Hybbie

If you really wont to switch to iOS i'd wait till the iPh*** 5/4s comes out, rather than buying the old model...
EDIT: in terms of web-browsing, it isn't that much slower! (if you can live w/o flash...) iOS runs DAMN fast, even on bad hardware! (i compared my lovely SGS 2 to a friends iP4...)
Try Swype and you will forget about iPhones all together....
Yeah, I think you should switch.
To be honest only you can answer this. I personally would regret it. But that's because I've owned 3 android phones. I had the zte blade first, then the awful wildfire, and now this! Certainly my best phone. When i look at an iphone i think yeah it does some good stuff but is so bland.
No widgets and your rammed with apple stuff and forced to do things the apple way if your not willing to jail break the device.
Android devices are customizable out of the box and allow you to play about with how it looks straight away.
Like i said its solely down to you we are all going to favour each device in some way and the majority likely to follow the good ol S2! Anyway regarding the size surely its of a similar height/width?!?

Why would you ever switch from the Blade to the Wildfire? That's a straight downgrade.
iOS is great if you're fine with having only icons on your screen... iPhone 4 still wins display clarity IMO... but GS2 has richer colours.
browsing isn't that bad on iPhone but it is noticeably faster on GS2... antenna is better.
I agree... wait for iPhone 5\4Gs whatever they call it.
Apple products are all overpriced pieces of Sh*t. Don't bother with it.
You will lose a lot of normal functions (Bluetooth as an example. Has to go trough Itunes or something like that -.-'')
Just get a keyboard that suits you better. Swype should be included.
As a person that sells phone here's my thoughts... iPhone stunning design and well easy to use. But this is where it ends as HTC etc have android now its easy to use but look at the way it does things... syncing android is instant with Gmail, plug it into pc it turns into a external hard drive/memory card drag and drop any file you want to it from any pc of Mac.
Bluetooth isn't just for audio.
You can customize it all day and all night uses a micro USB cable everywhere has one. Memory cards not built in memory. Give you a idea in the shop where I work we sell around 55 contracts a week and since the first week of Jan we have only sold 4 iphones. That is a very low number as of android handsets we have done say 75% of all contract sold

I agree with everything above. Again, it boils down to what is important for you. I also thought about iPhone 4, but SGS II prevailed big time, due to things I do with it. You can copy music, videos, pictures any time, hassle free. Really. I never really felt comfortable working with iTunes, never knew what stuff would be deleted. Big argument for me also was the ability to copy and play divx files without needing to convert. I watch loads of movies; just copy to phone and you're good to go. It's a cheesy line really, but think what you plan to do with it.
I went with SGS II and do not regret.

You'll be missing things like the filesystem and the tweaking on the SGS2 though
Don't forget the loss of flash and better media playback.

Before I say goodbye to the iphone 4 and welcome to the S3..

I am seriously on the verge of bying an any network S3 here in the UK. Just before I make the jump can I ask if :-
1) Is there an app like lockinfo for JB iphones that acts like a today screen, listing all your upcoming appointments, missed calls, messages etc from the lock screen? I am happy to JB the andriod if I can do this.
2) Is there an app that works, to record telephone calls both ways without the beep.
3) I have already had huge responses over the volume hack, thanks everyone.
If I can the the 3, then I will take the jump.
All the best

Yes but best to root for answer phone.
1. Executive assistant for lock screen info
2. Total recall s2 s3 for auto records
Ps swapped iphone 4s for s3 and love it,
Had to buy SwiftKey though for keypad!

Android can do all that and more. The most valid reason to switch from iPhone is that... it simple sucks more than tim cook on a Saturday night.

Honestly you should stick to the iPhone. If it does everything you need and has all the apps that you use why bother switching? If it's for faster performance or bigger screen wait for the iPhone 5.
I think you should stick with the iPhone 5.
Your thread is plain dumb.

Yeah I noticed most iPhone users are too dumb to ever learn and love android. iOS is perfect for idiots and grandmas to use. So... I say stick with your icrap last thing we need is to convince another iPhone user to switch.
I tried switching a few iPhone idiots over and I've given up. They always complain how it's so hard to use and blame me for talking them into it, not my fault that using iOS for so long has killed off most of their brain cells.
Thanks everyone
Can I thank everyone for their input, even to those who thought my topic was a dumb. I want a new phone and bored with apple so no dis-respect, I have taken onboard everything said and decided to give the S3 a try. I have the option of returning it so I have nothing to loose and everything to gain.
I thought the JB term was hilarious, of course its jelly bean...
Thanks all

Don't believe the iSheep hype that IOS has more Apps than Android because Android can do anything iPhone can plus anything else you could ever wish, and the only reason IOS has more Apps is all the junk on the App Store that's never even been downloaded once.
Sigh. This thread really goes to show how disappointingly immature some Android users are.
Good to see you're thick skinned enough to ignore it.
I mean really... somebody about to switch from iOS to Android and a couple of idiots just want to post abuse?

I traded iPhone 4s for SGS3 and I like it much more. There arent limits like you cant set mp3 for a ring tone or alarm tone etc. Stock SGS3 is more open and adjustable than jailbroken iOS. You can find executive assistant for lockscreen info in Google Play, also there are many apps for call recording..
Here on XDA you will find a lot of helpful infos, so it will be easier to get used on android

All types of people no matter what forum you go act like idiots, I mean come on the mans asking for help are you guys that immature that you have to abuse him instead of Helping him? He had the brains to ignore you all and still give it a shot..
Everyone wants to try something different just try your best to help. And if you do not have anything good to say just ignore it. Your all making the Android community look like it's full of douche bags seriously help or ignore them..
Android has all the things you mentioned mate you can get apps for everything you mentioned i hope you give it a try and hopefully you like it..
True, there are fanboys everywhere and its disgusting. But @ OP, you just figured out the matrix, your free now and know the truth! I'm pretty sure whatever you can do on a jail broken iPhone, you can do it on an android phone ( maybe even without root ) so try the S3 and keep it if you like it, if not you can always, return it. Good luck

Hi Mbeaumont.....Let me share with you my personal experience....I use to have an IPhone 4....and was quite happy with it, till I realized that whenever I want to explore more the OS and make the best out of it....was a real nightmare, no way to play with the system even Jailbroken, the limits are there and the Break of the Jail was only a shadow door to endless issues and tricky sophistications....I'm not blaming Apple for doing that.....I do have all the Apple MacBook serie......but to me if you are an explorer and want to learn more about any device you buy the choice specifically in the mobile market is very obvious.
Since I have bought the S3 back in July......what an amazing experience it is.....this phone and especially this Android OS is a piece of art that will make every single day of your life for passionate people like me.
Finally I quote John Keating in the famous "Dead Poets Society" movie........"There's a time for daring and there's a time for caution, and a wise man understands which is called for."

I agree. Being polite costs nothing.
I made the same switch you did, and would not go back. My mother is now happy with the iphone 4 i gifted her, and I won't be leaving android anytime soon. But it's true that the app market is less appetizing on android atm, even if this is changing with time, and the change is speeding up. Yesterday handled the iphone a bit, looked like a kid's toy to me, even if i recon being happy using it all these years. Also the gs3 is HUGE compared to it and takes a little time totake a good grip on.

Well, I Love HTC, but...

While this is "kind of" an HTC fanboy post, I would like others opinions... I love the ONE (The reason I'm posting here), but HTC has fallen behing when it comes to dev support and all together ingenuity (no "But... boomsound" please). I Hate Samsung as an HTC fanboy, but they have been consistent with their products, and that conveys a certain feeling of comfort with a product... A superior screen, and sound, does that really make it better? I want honest opinions (I understand that is very unlikely). Come on people of XDA, everybody wants to buy a superior product...

I always try to go for galaxy phone but every time I saw their new phone screen I give up.
I really do not know why people like galaxy screen which is not bright at all, hard to read text, only when play video maybe it is good.
No disrespect as it's of course a matter of opinion.
But I think I have to take the opposite side when it comes to ingenuity. I think HTC has done pretty good this year.
Complete Aluminium design - Complete first in smartphone design
Front facing stereo speakers - No one has yet to do with these generations of Smartphones
4MP camera ultrapixel or whatever (it's a trade off for detail/low light but it still counts as ingenuity as HTC is breaking away from everyone else and being original)
Blink Feed/Sense 5- while it's not a complete new idea it is something we haven't seen implemented on Android in this way. A permanent social feed.
And the Zoe capturing video and picture at the same time may be gimmicky, but still showing ingenuity
I'd love to hear why you think opposite though

The S4 is only going to make sense for exactly two reasons, and that will be microSD and removable battery. Snapdragon means development will be much easier, and S-OFF will happen faster. I can break it down point by point and explain with the engineer's perspective why HTC is doing the right thing to make the best product, even if it doesn't sound as impressive.

I see where you're coming from OP, HTC really lags sometimes when releasing kernel source versus Samsung
Personally, I'm a die-hard Sense man. I love it. Yet, my next will be Samsung because the super easy rooting and no need to do any "wire" tricks and all this risky stuff to root that comes with an HTC device now is a PITA. I mean Samsung comes with an unlocked bootloader versus locked HTC bootloader and also nand-locked. Makes it difficult to choose, but I'd rather go with greater dev support and higher chances of gaining root and gaining root safely.
And this has nothing to do with ingenuity. HTC is doing some nice things as notsointeresting pointed out, but the other things theyre doing is really making them dig their own grave, at least from the way i see it. I mean, the whole reason Android has gained so much ground on Apple and actually surpassed it was mainly because of the whole "open source" thing that lead to the creation of a huge developer / contributor community. Yet companies like Motorola, LG, and HTC make it really difficult to take advantage of these community-contributed material by locking their devices' bootloaders and generally making it difficult to root. In light of this, its no surprise that Samsung is so popular now
I'm seriously thinking about getting the HTC one, I am so done with Samsung and their plastic phones. My only concern with the HTC one is the non removable battery. Let me be more specific, I absolutely love rooting and flashing custom Roms on my phones. In the past when my phone would freeze and there was no other option, I would just pull the battery and presto, however, with a non removable battery what are we supposed to do if the phone freezes up on us... What are our options???

You know what I thought about how easy it is to root and flash roms on Samsung devices and how slightly more difficult it is to root etc htc. But then I thought could I own another plastic phone and every time the answer was "NO I couldn't" even if it was easier to root.
Easy rooting is invalid with this device. You guys have not been in the dev section? There is a superroot where it roots your device at boot with just a file and a click.

You do realise it's the same with Samsung phones as well? Just holding power button is much easier than removing your phone from its case, taking off back cover, Battery pull, replace cover, replace case....
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Seriously people saying Samsung is easier to root and HTC is worse at software development support, YOU GUYS MUST NEVER OWN BOTH OF THEM! ( p.s I have hox and s2 )
Odin is pratically the dumbest software to flash an OTA or root kernel or recovery. ( Okay not dumb but hard to use ) and Samsung OTA namings are the worst. With all the alphabets naming you need to search and search again for your desired version. Whereas HTC is so easy by looking at the numbers only. And updating an OTA only requires you to fastboot flash a stock recovery then run the OTA.exe then its done.
Besides, HTC always provide bootloader unlock on htcdev.com ( yes One is already available ). And its easy as 1,2,3 which I see no points for people always complaining about it. Although no S-Off really make something a lot more difficult on HOX, ( flashing kernel is a pain, yes ) but seeing how Snapdragon processors usually have problem to achieve a S-Off this is not a big issue too.
After living one year with non removable SD n battery I actually get used to it. With non-removable battery you won't have to pull ur precious battery cover apart to restart a phone freezes at flashing ROMs ( admit it you hate to take apart your phone, my heart just aches when taking apart battery cover of S2 or incredible S ) and with non-removable SD you always clean it up so less defragmentation occurs.
I may sound biased but this is truly from someone who has experienced them both. Hope it helps.
I didn't mean "ingenuity". That's my fault. They are trying new things. The problem with doing that, is as soon as they make a niche in the market (think OG EVO), they change the concept...
I like that they are trying to be the first to do this or that, but they don't need to change every aspect of there device design with each new device... I mean, really?
I think most will agree with me on this, take the stereo sound out and fill that space with LI-PO... I would much rather the device last a little longer, than hear my phone ring 2 houses away.
And everybody claims that the screen is the number one thing about a smartphone, bullcrap. Software is, and if you can develop easier on one device than you can another, developers are probably gonna swing toward that device...
HTC needs to realise that "flagship" phones, with all their tech and wonder, are going to sell to the dev community (aside from the ONE uppers (pun intended)). But all they do is drive a wedge with there ridiculous locks and late source code releases.
Apple made it to where it is today because simplicity, people want simple devices (including devs). They are still at the top (albeit, as a fashion statement, rather than a phone now that Steve Jobs can influence the tech)... Numbers don't lie, they are the only constant in this universe, the only truly universal language.
Open-source is a brilliant idea, but when we can't use it on a device, it's basically a hard to use iPhone (locked-down), and nobody wants a device that they can neither work easily, nor change it to make it better... Which is the reason Samsung sells more devices, and has a HUGE dev following. The same reason they don't bother with a new fully aluminum chassis, because it sold before, it will again. If it is not broke, don't try to fix it.
I have my opinion, others have their opinions, I don't mind them, I just voice mine.

Developers make apps for every phone. Android = Android. You can tout software features from the brands all you want, but most people here on XDA use their own launcher and their own apps for any phone. Software is the number one thing, but all Android 4.1 and above devices are all running the exact same software in my book.
Don't get me wrong, I want to play with BlinkFeed and all, but at the end of the day I will probably go back to Zeam launcher, exDialer, GoogleVoice for texting, and the official FaceBook app... the exact same software I would use on any Android phone old or new.
EDIT: PreHome for task-switcher, MX Player for video, etc, etc, etc. The one thing I haven't found a good 3rd-party solution for is the camera app, so for that, I am excited to try this new Zoe thing (I thought of that idea 5 years ago... why take pictures when you can take 2-sec video and then make the best picture from it later).
