Hey guys, this post is just for fun! ... I guess...
Post here
what you have learned something
new to you,
new for you,
or totally new
from XDA!
If possible, post a tiny bit of your tutorial and the fun will go on!... I guess..
Note: If you learned a trick from other posts, kindly just link the post/tutorial on your post here instead of making your own. (Copyright terms) So they (the Devs) will not gonna get mad at you. or kindly indicate something like "I DO NOT OWN THIS".
Or like for example, "how to remove lockscreen texts on doixanh's ROMs", just simply KEEP IT TO YOURSELF or ZIP YOUR KEYBOARDS. Because you will be killed by the great doixanh before you will get to know that it is his signature.
So let's get it on!... I guess...
I have learned something new!
Removed lockscreen texts on doixanh's Roms.
But I'm not gonna tell you how because DX will kill me. =P
I've learnt something new.
How to kill a person who removes lockscreen texts on my FroyoBread or GingerDX.

back to topic: I've learn a little about android, not much. but its ok. as long as I still learn new things.
My turn! i like dx signature.it kinda "doixanhs" the rom.
Ok.i understand android from very beginning, because i firstly had xperia x1,wich is windows mobile device, but can run XDAndroid, and now it runs android through cwm.the reason i understand android,is because android on winmo device is very veery much harder to understand.ill start developing soon.ubuntu is ready on my pc

i like the lockscreen text's..
it tell's you who is god. he MADE your phone as good as it is now, and he will make it even better/more fun. and if he want's you to see his name everytime you switch your screen on you WILL see his name PRAISE TO doixanh
i do not know him/her i have not even spoke to them
i just love there work and everything he has done for x8 to make it so good.
pinch to zoom/ multi touch is BIG for me. same for a2sd and the bragging factor of ANDROID 2.3.5
and the latest market he has incorperated into our beautiful little machine
You sir my hat goes off to you,,
Thanks an eternity
Oh forgot what iv learned since i came to this site.
well i learned how to root the phone. iv learned how to put on custom rom's, learned that i can add modules (for instance ginger dx v010 doesn't include O.C so i got ocv004 and put it in my modules folder hey presto simple overclocking )
iv learned everything i know about phone "modding"
iv learned SE are no way near as good as doixanh at producing software for phone's
Dioxanh SE and other company's should employ you to make there phone's better,
You get load of money from them.
but please don't leave us at xda you are too good to lose
what i've learned recently, some people ego made the dev group pissed off >:|
btw, i'm a noob, n still trying to understand how to mod my 'lovely' X8.
Today i learned something!
I've learned that I do not know much about Android and Roms.
I use GingerDX v.6 and am happy with it.
But a strange thing happened today:
My phone refused to wake up after idling. The screen stayed black but i could feel vibrations when touching it. The phone was on but the screen was totaly dead.
No worries, i thought. A reboot will solve the problem.
The phone was not responding so i took the battery out and restarted the phone.
After a while a black screen with the text CVM something showed up and told me that something with a recovery (or something like that) was incorrect. If i understand things correct CVM is a program like Xrecovery but i did not know that this program was installed in my phone.
There was a menu like in Xrecovery and in this menu i clicked reboot. The phone did the reboot but was entering the CVM program again and the errormessage did pop up again. Then i began to be a little worried. I tried to reboot the phone and tap the backbutton many times when the SE logo appeared. Now i was entering the Xrecovery menu. Here i clicked reboot and the phone was starting as it should, into GingerDX.
What happened? Does anyone have any suggestion? I did not think that CVM was installed in GingerDX for X8. I have read about CVM and know that you use this program when installing rom in other phones like the ZTE Blade, but i did not think it was used in GingerDX.
I dont know why you had bsod(black screen of death),but i know why you entered cwm. When your phone was at sony ericsson logo, you touched the screen, and that is how you enter cwm.to enter cwm is touching screen, and for xrecovery is pushing back button.

i've learned how to flash, root, unbrick and install custom roms on my x8 in an hour.. xD
i am learned C Programing, Linux, Making my custom roms, making some app's, and etc.
i've learned how to trow my phone to the walls when i get FC's
oh! and i've learned that X8 is Wallsterproof (Something like Walls+Waterproof) (yes, i was with my X8 under the shower, i think doixanh have to improve the scrooling wile we have water in the screen LOL)
Sorry for my bad head! Ups! NO! My bad english

doixanh ROMs differences
Everybody have these differences in doixanh ROMs??
With the same use:
FroyoBread ROMs battery life: 5 days.
GingerDX ROMs battery life: 1 and a half day.
That is a HUGE difference.

I have been a user of Windows for long lomg time and have loved it when I had the liberty to flash clean cooked ROMS onto my device. Rarely, I stuck to Stock ROM's or over bloated ones no matter how stable!
Will we ever see the light of day when the streak will get to see some cooked ROM's which are not bloated with added apps?
I got my Streak bout a fortnight ago - so far tested and mostly fixed on downloaded apps - but really pissed as I still have crap on my streak which I do not use - why do we need to live with this?
Am now looking to dump the 2.1 - but sceptical as I nee many bricks flying around for units purchased online direct from Dell....
I really hope to see some cook - take the initiative and start cooking some clean workable ROM's
I am sure it will not be long before you have your wish, Paul over at Modaco is the main Cook at the moment nip over he has a custom ROM

I have no idea what you're talking about. What 'bloated' ROMs?
Why don't you just open the update.zip, remove all the crap you don't need, resign it, done. Or, just uninstall the apps you don't want? It's not exactly hard to do.
You also sound incredibly ungrateful, these devs put A LOT of hard work into these ROMs and you just complain about a few apps they've included? If you don't like it, why don't YOU start making ROMs. This thread is essentially just pure laziness on your part.
Wow. "why do we need to live with this?" It's not essential to life, It's a ROM. grow up.

Chill out Meltus.
Am not sitting here to start another debate on disrespecting Chef's - never had that intention anyway if you had read my post with a clear mind! - I have been a user of custom cooked ROM's since the days of XDA IIs and never had a reply of such.
My title read - 'Moved from windows' - which implied that I am new to Android and still experimenting - infact I am still on my stock ROM on my dell online purchased unit and was only lookign for a way to uninstall Touchdown etc to save on space in memory.
Thanks for the tip on changing update.zip - now I have a solution which I can look into!
I said we dont need to live with this and it was not pointed to any Chef - it was pointed to Dell - who have installed all crap on the unit (which I am trying to remove) and being in a forum - you will have to appreciate - we all have the right to ask questions - some may be good and some naive!
So mine was naive - and thanks for your answers.

Ah, I apologise, I thought you were referring to ROM developers, sorry
Anyway, if you want to open the zip, remove stuff, and then sign it again, you'll need the signing tool - http://androidforums.com/developer-101/8665-how-signing-roms.html
Sorry again, i guess i just completely mis-read your post ><

Haha, i think it's almost impossible to brick the streak at the moment, you can always just fastboot flash the stock recovery image then flash the stock update.pkg from Dell!
I'm a weak f***er so that's out of the question
I too have come from WM and have been using it since it came out in '98. One thing I miss is the ability to view and tweak the registry. Like on the HD2 just change
'Go to HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P2\ EncodeFormat' to '2147483647' and you have loads of additional video recording formats!
You can also remove ROM apps by using Root Explorer (need rooted phone obviously) and removing the offending /apk files from /system/apps and then clearing the Dalvik-cache and rebooting.
I just flashed the 2.1 ROM on my AT&T/US Streak and got rid of Touchdown and Amazon MP3. No more icons I don't use, nor widgets to scroll through.
here's a good guide to it:

Good luck.

Good to know. I was wondering if it was so easy, why would everyone care about what apps are installed if you can just zap em if you don't want them. Well thankfully I developed no ill effects from my deletions, and I removed those I really didn't want.
I'm not enough of a linux/Android gear head to know better. I'm a pretty good Windows gear head, but never knew Linux well which is too bad with all the cool Androids coming along in the handheld space. Oh well, learning new tricks is good too i suppose...
thanks
So my learning experience started when I decided to do Ryanza's "unlagfixme". It ran completely fine until it decided to restart itself. Once it restarted, it got to my "S" booting screen and then my screen turned black, and nothing else happened, but my bottom buttons would light up when i touched my screen. So i took the battery out and put it back in and restarted. Same thing over and over.
Here's where it was time to research. Only way i knew about getting to nandroid to do a restore was through rom manager. So after a little research, i found out about booting into recovery with adb (adb reboot recovery). Did that, and clicked reinstall packages, great! got into nandroid and was able to restore.
Then I got the crazy Idea to flash Vibrant6 from Eugene. Did that succesfully through nandroid then wanted a lag fix, so i flashed Ryanza's lag fix again to vibrant6. Phone hosed again! now it would only pop the vibrant screen and hang there. Time to do research again; this time i didnt have nandroid flashed so it was a little more difficult than before.
after hours of research to fix my phone I came across a post of how to use odin step by step. learned to boot into download mode, set up odin, flash...Did that, and odin would hang on cache.rfs, onto more RESEARCH...turns out i could install without a pit and that did the trick. after i was able to flash that ROM i was then able to get rom manager, boot into nandroid and backup my most recent backup (right after installing vibrant6) and then restore all my apps through titanium backup.
I feel today aside from the ****less scares...it has been a blessing day because I have learned: How to boot into recovery with adb, boot into download, use adb, use odin, flash a rom through odin and clockworkmod, restore TB backups, etc. After having the phone a little over 2 weeks and not knowing anything about android, i think these are great improvements and are things i didn't know how to do.
Today has been a great newb learning day. I guess you force yourself to learn things when you most need them huh! All the tools needed are here, more than likely whatever is happening to you has happened to someone else before. Search is your best friend. However, if I can help some of the other newbs to get up to speed, I'd be glad to. We have all been there right?
I'm so happy to be a part of this community!
Congrats, sounds like it was fun and nerve wracking. Having come from a G1, I was a little surprised at how relatively hard it is to flash a new rom to this phone, I guess the G1 spoiled me. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to take the same journey that you've been through at some point, but for now I'm just gonna enjoy it.

I did not. I tried all three ryanza fixes (update.zip, batch, one-click) and none of them worked for me. Couldn't get the script on modaco to work for me. And everytime i undid the lagfix it crapped my phone out. So i nand'd back to pre lag fix and I'm still debating whether I will backup to stock+lag fix (really liked the snapiness, aside from quadrant scores), or to play with Vibrant6 for a while and see if it is as snappy as stock with the lagfix or better. still debating.

Ok so I got about 4 pages of hate from loads of trolls gathering on one thread just because I forgot to add credits which I know is something unacceptable but still after adding them I still got hate (i think their blind as well), so I removed the rom forgetting some people really liked it and want it. After removing I got 4 PMS to bring the rom back so I will start a new thread tomorrow morning for the rom, trolls not allowed

There was no hate, you used the work of minimum 10 people, who spent a lot of time in things "your rom" is based on. Maybe you should read your posts again and rethink. You are full of anger at the moment, please calm down and accept your fault. Yes, you spent time by yourself. But if everybody behaves like you at the moment, we can carry xda to it's grave. Consider that.
And finally, keep working, keep learning, keep mention other devs.
It wasn't about trolls&hate.. it was about you wanting credit for making a nice rom but not giving any credit to the people who facilitated what you made.
Doc's rom wasn't just something that just magically appeared through thin air, it took him time and effort, same with hardcore's kernel, sztupy's ultk, supercurio's colour and brightness fix, tayutama's extended menu.. and whoever else you 'borrowed' stuff from.
Next time i hope you are clear about what you have done i.e. themed doc's rom and added some stuff (be specific). The good thing about Doc's rom is that he makes it so it's highly customisable, nice and clean, so people can add what they want.
I can understand that you thought it was good to make it easier for people to use your themes, no one can fault you for that. I think it would have been better for you to make your changes to a stock rom and then learn about all the changes that those other guys made and add them bit by bit much in the same way as other roms developed.. but you took the easy way and borrowed their work without asking if you could or even crediting them for their hard work.
I guess you will know better next time.

Agreed.
All everyone is saying is that you should have credited the devs who created the main stuff, cause i looked at your thread and i know you mean good for the community, but it looked like a mashup of Axura's ROM with others on the board.
Just mention names next time, non of this emotional XDA stuff will happen

not the place to be posting ROM problems pal, that should be in the ROM thread.
I know that I come across as a prick on here lately, but I'm gonna start a revolution against ROM Manager and Kernel Manger...
Useless programs for people trying to shortcut a proven system...
One other thing I'm adding to that, but the vote is still out is any FormatAll programs. Both times i used Caulkins, I had to go reflash recovery via PC36IMG.
Newsflash! Wiping all in recovery works fine. I've flashed 1000 setups liek thnat with ZERO problems.
As for the former, not in ONE single thread for any ROMS doers it say "Use ROM Manager". Wanna know why?? Because using RECOVERY is a PROVEN system
I apologize to the Devs, especially Caulkin, because I think he's a genius, I know they put a lot of time and effort into their apps, but it's useless.
I see 10,000 posts about people having problems with flashing ROMS and Recovery and 9,900 of them were using ROM Manager.....
OK, now the people that are gonna tell me how wrong I am can chime in.....
I never used those apps myself, I prefer the piece of mind that's its being done right, I do like the format all zip I always used that.
I actually agree with you. I myself have come across issues with ROM manager the few times I've used it. Going into recovery yourself is more secure in getting the job done.

Agree to a certain point, but I do highly appreciate the work of Koush and Team Win. If nothing else, they both serve as great means of downloading the latest kernel or Nightly.

Kidding aside, or - maybe not, what does it even really matter?
The experienced, and not so much, use these services ... why do you care? Are the masses running to you for help? No. They're not. If people are going to do things wrong, they're going to do things wrong.
I've used Kernel Manager twice, only because it seemed convenient. I still looked through threads here. Even if I didn't, who cares?
People use these out of convenience, for the most part. Then, sure, there are some that use such because of them being simple and have no problems. Not to be rude, but what do you care if people do or do not use these? People are still going to **** their **** up, regardless.
Again, if you were the 'help master,' which you're not, I might understand. But you're not, so I fail to understand the reason for the thread. Apart from ridiculing people.

I will say this; I see as many people posting problems about issues flashing from recovery as well. Again, if people are going to **** something up, they are going to **** something up. And with most people I have seen, they are posting positive experiences from using ROM Manager. Now, I know - despite you actually using numbers - you have no numbers. So, naturally, I wouldn't make such a drastic assumption while trying to actually use numbers. Made up numbers at that.
And, so - in turn, it's NOT useless. People get much use out of such apps. 'Noobs' and perfectly able individuals alike.
Hell, when I wanted to flash the GodMode kernel I just hit KernelManager and had it take care of business in one foul swoop. Granted, I'm using an older version of Amon's recovery, so I would have had to go into my folder and move the kernel to the root of my SD card, then power down and wipe cache and dalvik and so forth. Instead, I hit 'teh magic button stick' and took a few hits and took a few drinks while my phone just sat there. Beautiful.
Granted, I don't rely solely on these apps / programs ... but even if I did, would you hate me? I can't imagine why, seeing as I don't look to you for help when things go wrong. Not that they ever have. But, honestly, whatever. This is a pretty petty thread.

agreed i read the threads but have at least tried the progs and they seemd to only kind of work well the kernal manager rom manager seemed useless lol but why does it make a difference if someone uses it? are they taking money away from you or something? jw and yes there are people who use it and come back and are like OMFG my **** is ****ed up but then all they gotta do is figure out how to fix it manually so yeah then they probally wont use it again lol
gonna take this one step at a time,

flashing one zip is simply more convenient that multiple wipes. calkulins zip was created to help the users yet instead of being thankful you are an ingrate.

did you know that the rom dev has to setup and submit his rom to rom manager? why do you think they do this? rom manager is supported heavily by the rom devs. it is an easy way for users to find new roms they otherwise may miss.

done and done. if you do not appreciate the work put in by these devs then do not use there apps. bashing them will only turn off devs whose sole purpose is to help the community.
I don't trust those programs to do what they're supposed to do; I've read about to many horror stories from people who used them.
u stink
I like ROM Manager and Kernel Manager, they are convenient apps for newbies like me.
Please stop posting this stupid crap - "A Revolt against ROM Manager & Kernel Manager" Are you serious? I thought it would be a joke but your serious- lol. Yes it does cause problems but thats cause of simple mistakes. I have flashed through ROM & Kernel manager numerous times without a single fail or anything. And the irony of you saying you hate the 9,900 post about people not being able to flash - yet your adding the # of worthless posts with this stupid bullcrap. Sorry that I'm coming off rude but give me a break. These developers built something for inexperienced users & even advanced users to add convenience to flashing. If you really want a change please contact the developer with some constructive feedback, not this pointless thread. Cause trust me, this stupid revolt is going to get any application taken down.
Sincerely,
D3luSi0n4L
p.s - If you feel differently and would like to speak please feel free to pm me.
i have used then all and have no NO troubles with them ...
if you dont like them dont use them period .
I am not a pro but flashing things to my phone is nothing I am new to and I for one love BOTH apps!
I can look and read up on a ROM and have this cool program
Download
Backup
Wipe
Install
And let me know if there is a update.
I have flashed many roms and never had a problem. . .
Well, there was a time I did not pick the new gapps and well. . . . That was my bad.
Can I start a "REVOLT" from post like this?

I am a newbie to all this stuff and I've looked at Rom Manager and didn't understand it but I was taught to flash through recovery. Although my first flash I didn't backup my OS (will never make that mistake again). Recovery is quite simple. Still getting the hang of all the lingo and what exactly everything does though.

Why the rage?
I've never used the kernel app but rom manager and format-all.zip (I guess you never use clear-temp-files.zip either) have their uses.
When I first flashed a rom, I used ROM Manager (anyone remember Damage Control?). Then I used it to download ROMs but flashed via RA AMON. Now, I only use it to fix permissions. It's a good app for beginners.
I've used format-all.zip and clear-temp countless times and NEVER had any problems. I also never had problems with rom manager - I stopped using it because I wanted to clear dalvik cache and I wasn't sure if CWM did that.
Calm down. Choices are good even if some aren't ones you would choose.

I like many of you enjoy flashing custom roms, kernals themes etc and a big thanks to the devs and individuals for making it possible... Ive noticed lately im not really having any fun with my galaxy s2.
I seem to be in a mental bootloop of flashing apk's, tweaks and other little things to improve my toys userbility. cant seem to explore android market or other app markets for anything other than tweaks for this or add-ons to improve noise reduction blahblahblah its endless.
my phone out of the box stock was just brilliant and fun, now that ive rooted it, themed it and just made it to my everyday liking i cant be bothered to look for games or random apps that put a cheeky grin on my face anymore.
I know theres plenty out there to download i read about them in the forum all the time.
Is anyone else feeling like this not getting the fun out of it?

Same here..My phone is my working swiss knife
fair comment on the toy/tool remarks im a grown man my kids can play with the box.
just meant for the thread in a relaxed manner when im not emailing and using it for work related situations. i read so many sarcastic comments on various threads just thought a little humour would lighten up a complex forum such as this. we are here to help each other when it comes down to it.
il flash cm9 for a daily when its a bit more stable to my own satisfaction nice rom bit laggy/buggy for me at the mo
oh yeah as stated with the sarcastic remarks you have only focused on the fact i called it a toy not a tool/phone whatever it didnt really answer the question i was asking, id say a majority of gs2 owners dont use it for its full potential
but my reply isnt to defend what context i have written and what i refer my phone to. the quesion is for people who dont take it too seriously as a smartphone and just want to have a bit of fun with it wether it be for music or games .....

So I've just stopped with this whole **** and came back to the stock firmware. Now I'm just waiting for the first official release of ICS.
Regards.
Same for me. But my problem at the moment is that I have hit the perfect setup. It simply works exactly like I want it to, so there's no point in trying to improve it.

Hahaha thats funny....
Part of the appeal of getting a new phone is setting it up and exploring whats new.
I think thats what sucks people into flashing so much.
From what ive seen most changes/roms are bugger all and the hype isn't justified and in the end it's a phone, goes into your pocket and you get on with your life.

Yup, I tend to agree. I just spent most of the day setting up a Motorola Defy for a relative. It took me about 10 minutes to do what would have taken him weeks of reading (and he's a techie guy, just not up to speed with android).
Now running CM7 with root and stuff, it just doesn't need touched. I put on a self-build of it, and that will probably last him 2 years or something! Maybe I'll pop ICS/CM9 on it when the time comes, but it's a set and forget
I see my own phone a bit like that - I tend to build a ROM, test for a few days, perhaps release, then run it for 3 months or more
Ways to solve it
I had bootloops on my phone, a couple of days ago, and have tried several other methods to resolve the problem, but to no avail (for example, taking out the battery and letting it cool for a couple of minutes). If you have made backups using Nandroid backup, you should be able to restore your phone. If not, you will have to flash a stock kernel onto your phone and install a custom ROM after that. That's what I did since i did not have any backups made.
lol did you get the topic of this thread?
I've found that i can't find my "perfect setup" wen i start flashing roms as theirs always another one with something slightly better or more interesting that I need to try out or flash. At this current time the major temptation being ics. Which is what I'm currently running :L
I tried sticking on stock-ish firmware (checkrom) but its just to hard :/

Not really.
Because there will always be the overwhelming majority that will think; "Oh, this CM9/AOKP is really neat, very customisable - but do I want video cam or not!?" - and then back and forth flashing ensues.
