Found some flex - used a visual guide - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

I cracked open my new tab with an ordenary screw driver and dull fillet knife. Use pictures from here:
http://www.techrepublic.com/photos/...=10&tag=siu-container;thumbnail-view-selector
Fixed flex in 10 mins. Got a cool look inside the tab as well, always a pleasure when a device puts back together well...

Thanks for the link to the teardown, what was wrong with the flex?

Little air in exactly the place where the xooms power button would be - top left corner.
Felt like a pop as i depressed it. Pretty annoying to see the sammy plastic never quite up to scratch. I wish their mobile devices were as well built as their microchips and displays... the of the reasons i never got a galaxy phone was the plastic horror on the backs of them all.
We need a rubberised material like the original droid had, or like the plastic on the incredibles!

Right I'm with you now, I was thinking 'flex' as in cable.
Glad you got it sorted.

Whatta.. mine doesn't have any screws next to the port.. How would you open a GT-P7500 3G + wifi?

I enjoyed the pics of the teardown. I knew the battery was huge but it was funny to actually see its size.
I actualy like samsungs plastic and design the past couple years. I love my Galaxy S (Captivate) and my Tab. I dont have any creaks or flex on either device. Only thing i dont like is samsungs software, thus the reason i love xda

Amen to that! Took me exactly 1.3min to get rid of TouchWiz and install a vanilla 3.1 ROM. If only PhantomHacker would hurry to finish his 3.2 vanilla ROM, then I could say "you complete me."

No screw holes/covers anywhere on my LTE Tab...not that I'm gonna open it up. Just wondering if the LTE version is a different case design. Or I'm blind.

There are two on either side of the main connector...

Not on my LTE Tab. Only "irregularity" on the bottom trim is a small hole about an inch to the right of the main connector that I assume is the mic. Nothing on the sides (when looking at landscape view) except the speakers, and top trim only has the sim access and the headphone jack.
Not that any of this matters, unless someone with a LTE Tab wants to open it up per the OP.

Its ironic you say "you complete me" when your tablet is actually incomplete with the vanilla ROM. For example you lose hardware accelerated GUI, lose hardware display options, lose advanced multitasking, and many more important options that are only available with TouchWiz since its written specifically for the Tab 10 hardware.

I guess they are clipped together then... should be even easier to open - you just need a fillet knife or something like that.

How'd you pop the screw caps off?

just use a needle... don't be shy, they stick back in very snugly

Anyone else's rear bottom plastic ill fitting?

This is literally the only thing I don't like about the phone. On my ~3 day old ATT Nexus One, the right side (When looking at the screen), on the side, the plastic is just loose enough that your fingernail can catch it. It seems insanely minor, but it's a huge annoyance because that's where your fingers rest, so it's constant sharp plastic edge.
Is there any way to remove and refit it, or maybe order a replacement cover? It's the plastic part with "HTC" on it. I really don't want to fight with HTC over a return for such a niggling issue
Mine was, sent it to HTC and they sorted it. Looking at the tear down pics, it wouldn't be hard to DIY it.

Exactly. I'm torn as to rather I want to screw with it myself or go through the hassle of sending it in. Did they just send you a new phone and a box to return your old one, or did you have to actually send it in for repair?
I sent it to them (well, they collected it), had it for a few days and returned it. Not a replacement, which I was happy with as my unit appears to be a goodun.

You might be able to get an advance replacement if you ask. Or Google for the tear down, it pops off.

Yeah, I saw the teardown vid, seems to just pull off with enough force, I'm just unsure if I can make it any better. I'll wait and see if anyone has DIY'ed it
Same problem here, I thought I was the only one. =) I agree that it's really minor, but if it's something that could be fixed that would be nice.
Mine sticks out on the right side, too. NBD for me, but that's odd.
Yeah, I'm glad I'm not the only one too. In the teardown vid on youtube they just pull it off with a plastic iphone tool. I'm kinda tempted to try, and see if I can tell what's making it do that.
i have this issue too. to me, it's a minor cosmetic issue. and how will you know that the one they send you doesn't also have that issue?
My beef is the glass on the screen sits just below the sides of the metal.. leaving a sharp ledge on both sides of the screen where it should be flush

Exactly, hence my hesitation to try to warranty it.
I had a chance to look at several at&t N1s and I noticed this too. The bottom part on about half of them had a larger gap than there should have been. Hopefully it's easy to DIY fix.
How can AT&T N1s be different from T-Mobile one's exactly? There all being made by HTC, just of course with different radios.. why would there be cosmetic differences..? I didn't know carriers had an input in how [HTC] made their phones.. if you know what I mean.

It's possible that the t-mobile ones had the same problem. Luckily my phone hasn't had any problems really. But it's also possible for the manufacturer to make small adjustments on their lines to increase efficiency, that's why different batches/serial numbers come out screwy sometimes.

Well best of luck and I WILL be keeping up with this !!!

holy crap, already? Subscribed...
would love it if you could check to see if you see the nand chip (probably a square flat pc, soldered on one of the boards) and if it sez "SEM04G" or "SEM02G" on it
that would resolve the issue on internal memory
also if you can take a shot of what is serving as a spring on the Z hinge -

not necessarily - in fact I believe there has to be a spring employed - take your phone, hold it so either end is facing straight down (not one of the long edges down) -
then open the screen all the way, start to bring it back like you're closing it, and about 1/3rd of the way from full open, a spring brings it across the center point and nearly to the 1/3rd from fully closed position. No gravity in effect there -
probably isn't much of a spring, but it doesn't need much - a flat strip of plastic that the end of the hinge rubs against and bows out as the screen travels toward the center of it's open/close arc. at the center of that arc would be the max point of bow.
there's another way to do it, but with the limitation in depth, that's how i suspect their doing it - i could be wrong on the 'how' part, but there is a spring capturing energy from the screen as you open it - as the above demo proves
Well, if we can get proof that it's not a 4GB chip like T-Mobile's claiming, they won't be able to refuse returns/exchanges.

Pretty sure the design is based on pendulum swing.
Salute for this astonishing attempt
One hinge is easy the other is not. The one up with the copper strip (which must be pealed to reveal another screw) is a *****. The mobo is very thin. Will try again tomorrow after I have fun upgrading vCenter servers at work.

A lot of people have been asking for a video of the end results - here it is!
LOL - I notice the audio doesn't quite match up with the video, Deal with it
Repair materials:
Currently the 5 pack of springs is out of stock - I ordered the 10 pack:
10 pack of springs
Small Phillips Screwdriver
Set of Safe Open Pry Tools
Void stickers for the squeamish
Important sources:

Wow!! Your hinge looks amazing! I just ordered the t5 screwdriver kit. Once I receive it, I will be attempting this.
I still need the springs, but I'm debating on ordering the 10 pack or not.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I wish there was a cheaper spring solution, I stretched mine, but it's still kinda loose. I don't have the $6 to spend on a spring, I had to search for change to get a T5 bit from Ace Hardware, and that was $2
Just a little update - after a day of full use, the phone seems more solid with the keyboard CLOSED; No wobbling at all. It really does feel like a one-piece device until you slide it open, and the clicking sound that the sliding makes really makes it feel good in the hand
Wow thanks for doing that and providing a link to the parts! My only gripe is that to get all the tools and parts, it will cost about $38. I wish we didnt have to spend that to get the phone to operate the way it was intended. Not to mention having to risk the phone not working because we had to take it completely apart.

The wobbling screen bothers me way more than the loose hinge, so much that the hinge doesn't bother me at all. I just don't understand why the screen can't sit flush to the base.

[Q] Battery cover removal/reinstall rating

Guys,
As the needs for extra juice without "downgrading" features, with preference to maintain slim profile for the handset, looks like an additional battery is a must.
Coming from Streak, the flimsy battery cover design for Note is new to me. It seems that it had exactly the same design as SGS 2, which I never owns. Streak's battery cover is made of metal, and if done carefully, battery cover removal/reinstallation in daily basis won't harm it.
Any ideas on Note's battery cover?
It's quite strong, I wouldn't worry about it:

not very difficult to remove. i just yank out the stylus and use the little corners there to get a few clicks off, then i just take it off from there.
the covers are very cheap anyways.

WHO-EVER says anything/comments about the SGS2 or Note's back cover I will just reply with that video. Just the link. Nothing more.
On a second thought I might even drop a line, like: "It might be cheap, but it's more durable than many phones as a whole."
Why do you think you need an extended battery on this phone?
I can use mine for two days of solid use without it dying.
I have both devices. The back plate will wear well.
Removal is easy on both, but reattaching is easier on the Note. You have to start at the bottom and work your way up to get all the fasteners to click properly. I've needed to remove it and restart on occasion with the SGSII. Not a huge deal but with the note, you can just put it in place and start mashing it down. No worries.

Thanks. But the fasteners, do they ever get loose or broken? On the plate or (hopefully not) the phone?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
That would be very hard to do. The fasteners are on the plate, not the phone itself.
If you were to mangle something, you'd bend or crease a fastener. You could bend it back, or more severely, cut it off. There are enough fasteners where you could afford to loose one with minimal problems.

I always get the display to be the highest battery drain on my usage. It's almost 2-4 times of other components like Android OS, etc. So I'm not sure how I'm going to get longer uptime unless I stop using the screen -- which is the reason I bought it at the first place

Custom back replacements?

Since the Nexus 4 has back glass like the iPhone 4/4S/5, do you think they will make custom back glass replacements for the Nexus 4? My gut says no, but just curious? What do you think they'll look like?
I was thinking of the same thing considering the 2 screws on the back. I would also look forward for a back "Screen protector" like the iPhone 4/4S/5.

Yeah, I'd really like to see a market of custom backs..... Not sure if I'd like them, but it would be cool. And I was hoping for back screen protectors too.
That would be awesome. What I'd REALLY like to see is something like that one glowing Apple replacement back, except with a glowing Nexus symbol.

Unfortunately you'd have to add a few mm to make it glow. Still might be worth it though.
We won't get metal backs because of antenna issues, but we might could see carbon fiber and plastic.
Other possible issues with the whole idea is the fact that the antennas are actually on the back plate, which would make replacements more expensive.

More than that, check out all the contact pins:
http://cdn02.androidauthority.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/lg-nexus-4-teardown-1.jpg
So does all of those things attached to the back plate make replacements very unlikely, or just more expensive?
Personally, I'd give up wireless charging (I have a super long USB cable, good enough for me) if necessary, (and if the phone could still function without it) to keep the price down on a back cover.
