[Q] Stock Email App?? - Acer Iconia A500

My stock email app has quit pushing emails from my accounts. I have combed through all the settings, incoming & outgoing, and re-set everything but still no results. It will only bring in emails manually.
However, my Gmail app is working.
I have lightspeed 1.0.2 rooted.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the reply but that is over my head. I am a Noob. I know where to look at the log when an error occurs with trying to put a ROM in and it fails to install but I am not sure where to find the log to examine how an App is functioning.
Question, I have Acer Sync frozen in TB. I am not sure if they are related but maybe someone here knows. I am not sure why my GMail works and pushes new emails to my tablet and phone but not the stock client.
If I can not get this to work, any recommendations on an Email app from the market that I could use and see multiple email accounts?

One other thing, just thinking out loud trying to figure this out....
My phone (old HTC G1) has the same stock email apk. It also has stopped pushing emails from my yahoo and work server to my phone. (The same way my tablet has stopped)
Gmail still pushes to both devices no problem.
Could it be an account issue with having two devices registered somehow? I can't imagine this would be the case.

Download "catlog" (free) from market. Start log recording. Start email app. Switch back to log and look
for any errors.
Might not help, but might give you some kind of clue to the nature of the problem. Never used Yahoo! for mail, wish I could help more.

Interesting program. It really shows how much is running in the background on these things.
Anyway, here is the result:
Attempt 1 based on your instructions. Nothing really stands out that I can see. There were no new emails in either inbox.
08-27 18:05:30.010 I/Email (10845): ReconcilePopImapAccountsSync: start
08-27 18:05:30.190 I/Email (10845): ReconcilePopImapAccountsSync: already running
08-27 18:05:30.200 I/Email (10845): ReconcilePopImapAccountsSync: already running
08-27 18:05:30.210 I/Email (10845): ReconcilePopImapAccountsSync: done
08-27 18:05:52.270 D/Email (10845): *** synchronizeMailboxGeneric POP3***
08-27 18:05:56.210 D/Email (10845): *** synchronizeMailboxGeneric ***
Attempt 2.
This time I used GMail to send myself a test email with my stock Email APK open and running in the background. It should have pushed the notice that a new email arrived. It did nothing. Once I switched windows using the button down by the home button on the tab this is the result.
08-27 18:18:22.740 D/Email (10845): *** synchronizeMailboxGeneric ***
08-27 18:18:24.150 W/Email (10845): Line 8: Unexpected end of headers detected. Boundary detected in header or EOF reached.
08-27 18:18:24.150 W/Email (10845): Line 8: Body part ended prematurely. Higher level boundary detected or EOF reached.
Any ideas?

Well. I seemed to have found a fix for the time being. I went into the settings and app management and deleted the data from the email apk and also force stopped the email exchange services, then re-booted.
Sent another test email from Gmail to Yahoo (after resetting up the account settings) and it pushed through.
Seems some of the apps once you flash a custom ROM need to be reset sometimes.

email push

I updated to cyanogen 5.0.6 and realized that my emails aren't getting to me frequently. Anyone else notice that? I do get the emails but they come in a lot later than my desktop.
I have been up with 5.0.6 for a few days now and have not noticed any delay with Gmail or my corporate email. Are you using a Task Manager? When I first started using one I did not add the email process to the Ignore list and kept killing corporate email and then wondering why it wouldn't update until I opened it again..
ohhhhhhhhh. that might be it! LOL. I am using gmail / Google apps so I just added the gmail app to the ignore list. is there any other processes that I need?

Gmail flakey?

I'm running Gmail 2.3, it came with the Evo I bought this week.
Anyone else seeing the problem of Gmail getting stuck on ONE email?
For instance, I can see a list of emails, but whichever email I try to select, it will always show only one particular email. And pressing the left right navigation arrows at the bottom of the email still shows the same email.
Gmail been flakey on all phones this week. Thought google fixed that.
8pen from my supersonic on the xda app.
I don't get this issue, but many times after clearing my inbox in the app it still looks like I have new emails when I don't. The number of new emails doesn't go back to zero till I login via gmail.com or wait for a new email to come in.
Gmail has always been like this for me though.
Last year I learned how to include a push feature Google offers on the iPhone, and I set it up there, yes the push worked. Until then I got the Evo in June and used Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync instead of the gmail app.
If you want a true sync, then u can get it set up in MS Exchange by entering your username and password, then click on manual setup, from there, when u see the server box which says gmail.com, you will need to change that to m.Google.com then click next, choose which u want synced then ur good to go.
P.S. screw the gmail app, I prefer the HTC mail app though, has user friendly UI and the ability to multi select files to be movedto another folder or deleted...I tried moving files on gmail and don't see that feature implemented on the gmail app, unless I missed it.
I deleted the data for GMail within Settings Applications and everything was okay again after the resync.
Man.... I have never had any issues you guys write on here, I must be extremely lucky *knocks on wood*
No issues here

I was having issues with the sync yesterday as well. Clearing the data like you said fixed it. Thank you!
This doesn't help I'm just stating my personal experience:
I have never had issues with Gmail app other than trying to save attachments as posted. Other than that it has always been solid. If Google has server issues it wont matter what app you use.

IMAP Accounts Not Downloading EMail, e.g. Gmail

Hi guys
I have a HD2 with the Stock ROM 1.66, all working fine until recently, where both my Gmail accounts are blank, every folder is empty, Send/Receive runs, Connecting > Logging on > looking for Changes > Updating Folders > Disconnecting.
No email is downloaded, Ive tried removing accounts and re-adding, checking the deletion and day threshold settings, and its still not download any at all.
The only thing ive done recently is installed SPB keyboard which ive removed, and the Excalibur Android Loader app, which is also now removed. I also changed a registry setting under HTC Album to ignore the .thumbnails folder, but nothing else.
Help!!
My Outlook sync probably works fine, but because i dont have a valid SSL cert on exchange yet, i cant test with that.
Thanks
Does your email account work fine via webmail?
works fine via webmail.
Okay ive found the problem after hours of investigation, the date was set to 2011 for some reason, so it was connecting and seeing no emails for that date!!!
Thanks

I'm having the same issue. It checks email and comes back with the current time as the refresh time, but doesn't show any new emails. I have found a trick that if I go into the settings for that mail account and just click through them without changing anything, it will receive the current mail. Unfortunately I have to do that every time I want mail from that IMAP email. The unfortunate side effect is that it also resets default settings for emial size and frequency.
Where was the date field that you are talking about above?
I just went to my phone's date/time setting and it was set to automatic from server. I toggled it to manual and back to automatic. Now it's receiving emails again. That may have fixed it. I'm a little skeptical as I have done little things here and there which will may it update and retrieve email once, but it never seems to work on its own without my tinkering with it. We'll see. If it is still working tomorrow, I'll report back here to let everyone know.
So I tried it again this morning and it isn't working again. So that wasn't it. Also, one correction to my last post ... my IMAP isn't empty it just won't receive new mail. I hit refresh and the sync symbol spins and then shows the current time as if refreshed but no new email pop in. It also does this so fast that it cannot possibly be logging in and checking before it returns with no mail. Still frustrated. Let me know if anyone figures this out.
PS - as additional info, I own my own domain and email hosting through Rackspace. Since my wife has the same setup (Domain and sakes rackspace account) I added her email to my phone and it works fine (tried over several days). So now I'm really baffled.
Solved! Android 2.2 stopped receiving emails (T-Mobile)
Solved! Android 2.2 stopped receiving emails (T-Mobile)
Ok, I have spent countless hours researching and troubleshooting this and I think I have the solution. Apparently, Android's native email software has difficulty with certain things, "Flagged" emails being one of them. I.E. those emails you flag different colors to follow up on later.
I have tried everything I could find on the issue and this seems to be what worked for me.
Background (Just in case this helps you):
Phone: T-Mobile HTC HD2 running Android 2.2 NAND
Issue: Email worked fine on multiple accounts for over a year on this phone, then one day one of my personal IMAP account stopped receiving emails. Gmail and my Exchange accounts still worked fine. However, my IMAP account would say it is "Syncing/Refreshing Messages" and come back with the current time stamp, but would not pull in any of the new messages. My only work around until now was to run through the email account setup for Incoming mail server, Outgoing (SMTP) mail server, etc. Then it would work, but only once. If I wanted my new mail again, I would have to repeat that process. About a day or so before I began having issues, I had flagged several emails for future follow-up. I read a post that mentioned that in passing so I tried it. I went into Outlook and unfledged all the emails I had flagged.
Solution: Un-flag all emails in your INBOX. Then wait 4-12 hours.
NOTE! At first it didn't work, but after a few hours I started getting my emails and have been getting everything fine since (last 48hours). I guess it takes time to propagate in the system or something.
I hope this helps!

Emails wows

Hi
I've moved over from Winmo and I really like sgs but recently I've started having issuses with my emails. To cut a long story short, I had a problem with my handset which Vodafone kindly replaced with froyo 2.2 (previous handset had 2.1) and since then I've had problems with receiving email messages. The sgs is configured to connect to my work Exchange 2007 server and is set to check automatically (push) for new emails. I can go for about a day without receiving anything but yet my mailbox has new emails! I've tried different networks - I brought the phone unlocked, restarting, ending task ....... list goes on!
any ideas what I should do? I do sometimes see the error "connection error" in yellow at the top of the email app screen but it then disappears and start refreshing, again sometimes this does the trick and other times nothing happens.
please help!

If is set to check is set to check and that means that your server is not PUSHING email and on top of that your server doesn't allow SGS to check.
I have a Winmo phone configured as I can't rely on the SGS and that works 100% configured the same way!
I've also tried removing the account and re-creating which hasn't helped.
Could it be the phone itself? only 2 things have changed since it last worked, the hardware and the system software. We have other users using Android and its working fine for them
confused!
The stock samsung email is [email protected] Try K9 email from the market or try deleting your email accounts from the samsung app and use the 'Social Hub' app (also a stock Galaxy app made by Samsung) to add an exchange account as a 'push' type and see if that works.
How do I add the Exchange account to the Social Hub? Just try it now and all I see is my SMS messages but no option to Add an account, the menu button does nothing.
I will try K9 in the meantime
thanks

thanks mate but I'm sure our Exchange 2010 server doesn't support webdav. A note aside I think I know why the stock email client is not working correctly. What I have noticed is that when it does try and check for emails at the scheduled times, if for any reason it can't connect it stops and then doesn't re-try at the next interval, when I do a manual refresh I see all the "connection Error" messages popup at the top of the screen and once they have dissappeared, only then does it start receiving messages again.
any ideas?

[Q] Email notification does not always work after KitKat upgrade

Hi guys,
i've updated to KitKat from 4.3 on my Nexus and now i am not receiving new email sound notifications unless i open the app and mark all messages as read. This is my work account (exchange) and the issue is really annoying because my daily email flow is about 100 messages. Most require my attention right away and i have to turn the phone on and off every few minutes to see if new message is there.
i've tried re-adding the account, changed notification sound, updated to 4.4.1 and then to 4.4.2 but the issue is still there.
any suggestions?
device is complete stock.

I'm having the same issue here. Did not notice the issue on 4.4 or 4.4.1 but as soon as I updated to stock 4.4.2 the issue showed up. Sometimes the unread email will be there if I open the app but no notification sound or icon. I'm also getting delayed push emails randomly. It seems to work fine for an hour or two then no emails will show up unless I manually pull and I'll get a flood and e-mails will come in normally for a while.

i am still getting emails pushed, but no notification sounds...
any ideas how to fix this???
I tried wiping my device and flashing the factory image, issues remain.
Something I have noticed is that the second I open the Email application, the messages show up in the list .. of course no notifications.. Another behavior is that when the sync is configured with "Push" it is supposed to be realtime, and before KitKat, it was that way.. I'd get an alert on my phone the next second I received an email.. However, that also seems to be screwed up as well. I was hoping this 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 would resolve the issue but it didn't.
So I contacted google about this yesterday and the first few emails went nowhere. Then they transferred me to a 'specialist', here is their response:
Hello Brian,
Thank you for your response. Not being able to sync your emails through exchange is frustrating. I would be more than happy to assist you in syncing with the Exchange server. Unfortunately, at this time in order to sync with the Exchange server you need to access a third party app through 'Google Play'. In the future there may be updates to the Android OS that may allow for syncing with the Exchange server. Currently, Kitkat is unable to facilitate syncing with the Exchange server.
If you have any further questions, concerns or downloading a third party app does not resolve the issue please feel free to reply to this email or contact us at support.google.com.
Best Regards,
Valerie

WOW!
Will they pay for that third party application for us???
I remember how everybody was bashing Apple when their update broke exchange sync. But they fixed it quite fast.
Never thought i will see that approach from Google...
Very sad

Same here.. I really need a fix for this, I keep missing important messages
I think Google tweaked the email client to turn off notifications unless you open the app. If you get the first email, it will make a sound. If you don't open the app and check it, it will stop notifying you of further emails. I'm really not sure what the solution will be to this issue..
This is on my Nexus 5, but I have the same email client that the N4 does.

That's a Gmail setting, we're referring to the native email app that handles Exchange accounts
For me not
It always works for me
try using the application of your email provider(f.e. if you have a microsoft account use outlook.com app). that is what i do and i don't have any problem anymore. if you like to have all your different accounts in one application i would suggest to find another application. droid mail and k9 mail are quite good as far as i know

It makes an audible beep every time you get a new email in the "Email" app even if you don't open the app every time? Are you on 4.4.2?

I use it for my Exchange account for work email, there's no other email provider client. I'll see if I can get droid mail or K9, but they're relatively expensive options for just this 1 issue.
