Hi all! as the subject says I'd like to know if there's any difference between the GT 10.1 and 10.1v? How many different models exist (10" from Samsung) ? AFAIK there's only one that's going to be released in the next days, but I may be wrong.
TIA!
Have you searched from the internet?
Not to be rude, but there are loads of information there.
Please do, and come back if you want something more specific.
The 10.1v is the "old" model, sold by Vodafone in Europe also Australia.
Hi
I have one 10.1v I bought a few days ago.from Vodafone, mine its not locked no Vodafone.
I believe from what I gave read that the 10.1v is a build from Samsung with some requirements from Vodafone....from the 10.1v runs stock honeycomb while I believe the 10.1 will run the Samsung touch wiz or something like that.
The 10.1v also doesn't have SD card, at least mine doesn't.....
For now that's what I know

OK thanks! I'll try to find some more info googling... (like: are there HW differences between them?)
I know one of the biggest differences is that the 10v is thick like the xoom and the 10.1 is thinner than the ipad2
Uplinked through my mind
Though one sacrifice the newer 10.1 had to make seems to be with the camera. The back camera is only 3.0MP, while the older 10.1V has an 8MP camera.
Also not sure if the 10.1V is using a PLS display like the newer 10.1 is.
Both have Tegra 2 processors with 1GB RAM.
Mine has 8.6mm how much is the new one?
Thanks

According to Samsung, the new model has exactly the same thickness as yours, check: http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxytab

Nvidia CEO is praising the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Many Galaxy Tab 10.1 Google IO edition owners shown Quadrant shots showing Tegra 2 inside.
As far as I'm concerned, there is no doubt it's Tegra 2. I thought this was put to rest a long time ago.

yes, but galtom has been holding hope for exynos longer than anyone in the world. also, the engadget post on 7310gt rekindles my hope too.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
The way I see it (I know it is unlikely but... it gives me hope ) is that White GT 10.1 is wi-fi only.
Because Samsung has to compete with Apple and will want to be seen as cheaper this model will not feature Exynos, no sd card support or any other extras but nice price tag.
Black GT 10.1 will be a 3G and as such is competing in a bit different price class where price itself is secondary to extras and features. So even if pad with them will be a bit more expensive than iPad2 it is not that important. In mind of general public it will be settled that GT 10.1 is cheaper, thinner and lighter... once you want more from your device you pay extra but you get a lot more than from competitive product.
Another reasons for me to have hope are....
1. Why would you spend thousands of $ to develop a chip if you will only use it in some of you phones? It would be OK if Exynos was bad, but it is not... so first you pay to make it and than you buy from Nvidia??? Where is logic in this?
2. Since Samsung know already for a while about how good Exynos is I would think that with every passing day they will want to volume needed/produced to grow/improve. Wouldn't you?
3. It seems to me that it would be smarter for Samsung to use as little Tegra chips as necessary. Would you want to give money to your competitor instead of improving you EXISTING design and production unit. For me that looks like acting against myself?
4. It is steel a while before we will see 3G model, look at my point no 2.
5. If all units do come with Tegra 2 inside why so much secrecy in the subject? Isn't it not similar as to Galaxy S II story?
5. If not Exynos than - it still might be a divix certified device - questions is... will "add on" to tegra design from Samsung help with mkv and in general High Profile playback?
6. It seems to me that it would be funny if flagship computer tablet would be less capable than a phone or in some ways even as the tablet of previous generation. This would mean that if you would add a docking station to Galaxy S II in form of the 10.1 screen it would be the best tablet on the market ;-) (sort of recent ASUS idea).
If any one has a sensible explanation to points above... please share.

This covers all 3 of your first points in fact;
Samsung's internal business structure is not as monolithic or homogenous as you might expect. The mobile division does not just walk down the corridor to the semi-conductor business and say "hey we're building a new device, we want your best SoC for it.", from what I hear (and according to Engadget or ThisIsMyNext, can't remember which one) Samsung makes its own business units (and there are a LOT of business units) compete with external bidders for inclusion in their hardware / project (I hear LG operate in a similiar fashion as well). So it's not a given that Samsung will go with their own gear, just because it is in the family.
Also, considering the Galaxy S2 will be using both Exynos and Tegra 2 hints at difficulties producing enough Exynos units to fulfil the expected demand for the Galaxy S2. This makes me believe there will be no supply to use in the 10.1
See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_galaxy_s2#Launch
I honestly believe that Samsung will put priority for Exynos to be made available to the Galaxy S2. I'm sure Samsung would love to deploy the Exynos to as many devices as possible, but they may not be able to meet demand.

You cannot take silence & secrecy to mean that they are being silent because they want to surprise everyone with something amazing like this being the first non Tegra 2 Honeycomb tablet.
It would be amazing for Samsung (or anyone for that matter) to release a tablet with an SoC better than Tegra 2, but I doubt that will happen with the 10.1. Of course, no one knows for sure and Samsung might be able to pull it together for the 10.1 3G launch, but I'd be more pessimistic than optimistic at this stage.
Hope you don't get too disappointed if it doesn't work out
I am already as much disappointed as it is possible.
And there is a tablet with better soc out there (ipad2) but because of stupid iOS all this potential is lost :-(
I was in app store yesterday to have a look at it...I would not hesitate and buy it but iOS and iTunes (itunes everywhere, for everything do put me of). + I do have a NAS drive ith over 800Gb of tv shows and movies that I do want to watch.
So both tegra 2 and iPad are no go :-(
Yes discounting the iPad 2 of course - I did mean a Honeycomb tablet
I also remembered that Samsung will be using the new Qualcomm Dual Core Snapdragon in their 4.5" "Hercules":
http://thisismynext.com/2011/05/17/exclusive-samsung-hercules-t-mobile-dual-core-infuse-4g/
This seems to further strengthen the claims of Samsung's cut-throat internal business unit policies and also the Exynos supply limitations. Maybe.

As far as I know, there's 3 major versions of the 10.1" from Samsung.
1. Galaxy Tab 10.1V (this is the original 10.1 tab announced at MWC).
2. Galaxy Tab 10.1 (this is the revised design of the 10.1 tab announced at CTIA).
3. Galaxy Tab 10.1 IO (this is the limited edition Tab 10.1 given to attendees at Google I/O 2011, very slightly different spec to the normal Tab 10.1).
The variants of each type as far as I know is as follows:
The 10.1V comes in 2 variants:
1. 16GB or 32GB built-in storage (WiFi+3G)
The 10.1 IO comes in a single variant:
1. 32GB built-in storage (WiFi only)
The 10.1 comes in a variety of specs
1. 16GB, 32GB or 64GB built-in storage
2. WiFi only or WiFi+3G
3. Black or white
(Although, every combination of spec may not be possible e.g. I vaguely recall the 64GB model was not available for the WiFi only versions).
I've collated this info from various posts I've read so happy to be corrected if I've got anything wrong.
only correction here is the IO comes in Wifi only but Google gave you a 4G Mifi unit to go with it

Right, but that's only 90 days of service and has nothing to do with the tablet
the biggest difference is that 10.1v comes with only 512MB of RAM
I have 16GB, from Australia.
We now have three different Galaxy Tabs.
The 10.1 Galaxy Tab is being referred to as simply the "Galaxy Tab," which is what the 7" Galaxy Tab has been referred to since the beginning. The 8.9" is coming out. How can we simply, and in a unified way, create an acronym, or other delimiter, to express the three sizes and encourage the usage outside of XDA for everyone to describe the three different tablets? It was a mistake on Samsung for not making them more unique.
Do we refer to them as GT7, GT8, and GT10?
Thoughts?

Sorry if you don't see.
We are the galaxy tab! Everything else is something else!
Actually there are 4 different Tabs. 7 inch Wifi Tab is nothing like the GSM/CDMA Tab. All it shares is a name and screen size. Inside it is completely different hardware (TI OMAP instead of Samsung Hummingbird SoC). So you cannot use ROMs, kernels, even most libraries from one on another.
8.9 and 10 inch Tabs have much more in common since both are based on Tegra2.
I think it could be prudent to add separate subforums or thread tag requirements for different Tabs, especially in dev section so people don't flash wrong stuff.

Aye, worth having this discussion. People with the newer tabs will probably be ending up here by default.
So...
GT7
GT7(tmo/att/whatever local telco is)
GT7wifi
GT8
GT10v (GT10fat?)
GT10
And F/G/H for Froyo/Gingerbread/Honeycomb (+ version)
So I'd be;
GT7TmoG2.3
As a rough shorthand.
Not to mention the fact that even amongst the 3G enable Tabs, there's differences. The CDMA Tab is a different animal than the GSM Tab.
GT7Tmo?
or
GT7GSM?
Oh my god... where did we end up if GT7gsmG2.3 is a "short" description... but seems to me as a needed thing as well as it will save devs from to many questions from users/noobs that bricked their GT with wrong Firmwares...

My fellow korean dweller has got a point. You yanks dont get SGS dmb satelite and terristial tv chips in you models do you? Your custom roms break my viewing pleasure so all 8 inch tabs are not apples for apples. There is another three carrier korean models, wifi, umts, wibro 10.1 etc? I'm using a 2.5g EVDO edition of the tab. There are going to be custom orders for samsung junk so let's just refer to it by the proper model # its not pretty but puts the whole world user base and the manufacturer using the same convention. That's just the hardware. GT(M180L) if 삼성의 initials are too much to swallow as well.

Exynos, thinner/lighter with Super PLS screen
i dont think there is a big market for a 7-inch tablet....
Hmm why u say that?
We all have a 7' inch tablet..., but we dont need another one...
I dont know if the new version can compete with the htc flyer, let's see maybe the usb dock connector or the usbhostdrivers wateva will help us a little.

Original Tab, Blackberry Playbook, and HTC Flyer says no. As would the Asus Eee Pad MeMo and Acer Iconia A100 when they ship.
Tablets larger than 7" are great for when you are at home, but they do mean you have to carry a bag when you are out and about to put it in. 7" tablets fit neatly in jacket pockets and therefore are a much better proposition if you are intending to use it on the move.
I have a GalTab 7" and an Asus Transformer 10.1, and whilst they are both excellent devices, the TF cannot compete with the GT7 on portability, so if there is a chance of an upgraded GT7, I'm in the market for one.
Regards,
Dave

They mention;
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 will supposedly run Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread with TouchWiz 4.0 (no Honeycomb initially) and it will be able to make voice and video calls and send SMS , just like the Tab 8.9 (which does run Honeycomb).
If this is supported by the USA carriers to allow cell calls, then I will give my current tab to my daughter, and get the new one.

What about the release of the current 7 with rumors circulating mere months later of new tabs on their way? And like you said before, the 7 inch tab market is certainly more niche, so those that want updated hardware in the small form factor could care less about the other tabs and are waiting for an updated 7.
I have a friend at work that has already picked up one galaxy tab 7 for his wife about a month ago despite the other tablets that are available now. He is talking about getting another for himself soon. Equipped with this rumor, he might wait awhile to see if anything materializes.

It not lags too much. All tegra 2. but i suggest you to buy galaxy tab 10.1. It feels so good and the screen is much better than a500. At last, if u have enough money to buy an iPad,don't buy android tablet. There are too many problems with it. Due to my poor English, it's just a suggestion. Maybe my explanation is not clear.

No, your explanation is VERY clear. You just haven't a clue what you're talking about
if you want to be sure, i think the best is to go to a store and try the different tablets you may be interested in (iconia, galaxy, ipad).
everyone has its own tastes and its only a few models for you to try (3).
all i can say is that it's worth its price (a little less than 350 euros in France for example) and that when (if?) ICS is ported to iconia (with hardware acceleration of course) it will be smoother than it is now
WAIT FOR TEGEA 3.WAIT FOR TEGRA.
Did I mention if you wait a month or two tetra 3 will be hitting stores. This will drop prices on tetra 2 devices.and offer a even better android experience if you are willing to spend the cash.

I just bought one for a decent price but it might go back to the store...my sister is looking for something to take notes at school and to do basic tasks on, either she will use this or the blackberry playbook (with an android app loader handrite notes program...if it works)
it is an awesome tab
seriously honey comb is a whole new GENERATION of android
also is ICS is coming then its more than awesome

+1 on that.. this is still the best tablet in my opinion. I even bough the thinkpad tablet with the active digitizer and returned it to stick with my iconia.
After enjoying my Nook Color with CM7 for about 8-10 months, I decided I needed a fully functional tablet. After striking out at Staples this morning, I found a refurb with a case on Best Buy's website for $270. Can't wait to get Thor's ROM up and running on this bad boy once I get it on Wednesday.

Too bad, I haven't even played with my Galaxy Note (5.3")
for more than a month or two,now I must buy this 7.7 beauty !!
Let the development and bootloaderhacking begin.
I've seen that some people aquired root, but how that it done, I couldn't find it.

The same way as for the Tab 7+. Even the same file! Everything is explained in their forum.
What is the usual no.of votes required that device get its own forum? Are there any chance for this tab to get it?

It's just a bit taller, and virtually the same width.
It is a lot less thick though and has rounded edges, making it easier to hold in one hand IMO.

I agree, and I have P1000, for me 7.7tab is much easier to hold in one hand. (Other improvements I don't even need to mention Currently IMO this is the best Android tablet cause 10˝ is too big for me.
yes the 7.7 is much better than the old seven inch tablet. I really love it!
