Anyone have an issue on the DVP while using the keyboard that when you hit spacebar, it actually cycles over to emoticons or inserts a comma instead? It's happened a few times. A reboot seems to fix it for a while. And even if I just fiddle I can get spacebar to go, and then it might not do it again right away. But it's come back a few times now. Maybe something on the screen/capacitor could be broken? May need to call for replacement?
are you running the 7720 mango RTM? if so, i've been having my slider do some funny things as well, it might be related to the software. if so, we'd just have to wait until the official update is released from t-mobile before it's fixed.
I am on 7392 Nodo/Firmware fix.
The issue happens pretty infrequently... maybe less than once a week!

My 8525 has been great for ages now.
I haven't had time to change any settings or mess with new roms lately.
But it's been very stable, so I've been happy with it lately..
All of a sudden today it locks up everytime I type "I" or "i" by itself. If the letter "I" is in a word it seamed to be ok. This only happend in Text Messaging. I am using the number "1" instead and it's been fine since.
Oh and I used the Slide out and the on-screen keyboard Both did the same thing.
I've rebooted what feels like a million times today.
I'll probably just reload with a newer rom tonight but it's the strangest thing I've ever seen.
Maybe the phone thinks we are a team and there is no "I" in team...
I am sure nobody will have any ideas.. but it was worth a shot posting..
Now everybody will think I am crazy..
Anything starting with I does it..
So I am thinking the dictionary is corrupt...
Anyone know where this file is?
I'll do some searching when I have a min but thought someone could help right away..
Hi all,
my hero crashed every now and then, i'm not sure what causes this. This really annoys me, because taking out the hero battery is a hassle. It happens like this:
- hero is in sleep mode for some time
- i can't wake it up anymore, doesn't react to any hardware button input. Screen stays black.
- i can't softreset
- only taking the battery out will help out.
Now i want to know who the culprit is, and use a logfile app. My problem is following:
will the logfile app help me at all, AFTER the crash has occured and i reboot the phone? Will the logfile have entries from BEFORE the last startup, or is everything lost by rebooting my device?
Thanks,
shahpur
Shahpur, I have this problem and when I called HTC Europe they said they have never heard of this happening. You press every button and nothing happens. You don't know it's off because the screen is in sleep anyway!! And like you the only thing that gets the phone back is taking the battery out. And then it comes on again. I initially took sim and battery out when it happened, but after it's happened a few times I now know you only need to take the battery out which is a pain, because no buttons will wake the phone when it dies. They said it is probably a hardware problem and not software so a reset or upgrade of ROM will not make any difference and want about 3 or 4 weeks to repair phone, which is not even 2 months old.
Has anyone else had this problem yet? The phone just dies until you take battery out.
I've done 2 factory resets but nothing helps, and I don't want to send it back for a repair.
How often does yours do this?
hmm i would say it happens sporadically every now and then, maybe once a week or so.
But this is definetly not an hardware issue. If the OS fails to respond after getting into sleep mode, i can't imaging that this is a hardware fault which works flawlesss otherwise. I never had any problems with the hardware buttons when working with the device so i think this has to be software od OS related...i have a lot of 3rd party apps and i think it has to do with them...
I will not send my device back because:
you cant easily reproduce this bug, so i'm pretty sure that the repair center will not be able to reproduce and fix this issue. Therefore you might get the same device back, or another device which may also have any other problem like dead pixels, LED problems and so on.
Since my hero is working perfectly and has no other issues besides this annoying bug, i will wait for the next android update and hope that this will help the system get more stable...
well they said I was the only one that reported it and as I am in the UK and you are in Germany I doubt this is true. But I would be interested to hear if anyone else has reported this issue. It's really annoying, I get it every few days, and on Monday twice in one day. It's not where I am as it has happened in 3 different locations, but I don't have any 3rd party apps, or any apps downloaded, so it is not that I'm sure. Have you done the new update and had the problem since then as well as before the update?
i think i had the issue already with the old firmware, and the new firmware didn't fix it too. My device also crashed twice yesterday...
interesting to see that your device crashes without any 3rd party apps...so i think the best way to dig deeper, is to check the logfiles.
hope somebody can answer my logfile app question, so i can find out what was the last task before the device crashed.
Yep, there are no added apps on mine, yet........ So, don't worry about them, It's the phone that you and I have. But we are in the minority. I was offered a reconditioned by Orange, but I don't want a second hand phone with more problems like you say
Just as a matter of interest, what happens if you call the phone when it is in this state?
Regards,
Dave
Well it's dead/off, so answerphone......
Sorry to bump this thread, but I am also having the same issue. Did anyone manage to resolve this issue?
Me too!
I'm having the same issue and it seems to be happening more often. I have sent an email to HTC but no reply yet.
Any fixes?
Mine is a SIM free purchase from Play.com
in my case it was most definetly a 3rd party app which caused the crashes. Since i have like 40 apps installed i'm not sure anymore which one was the culprit, but it seems like i have either uninstalled the app or a recent update fixed the problems.
i didn't get any freeze for many weeks now.
HTC Reply
Got an email back from HTC advising a Hard Reset. Did this last night and no more crashes so far. Fingers crossed
I've reset mine maybe 4 times in 4 months, but I still get this problem
Any update from anyone on this little running saga of the invisible offs?
I have had a bit of a search and found simular problems but no answer, so wondering if anyone else has had this problem,
when using phone keypad for a few messages it just starts inputing the numbers not the letters? and i haev to end up doing a soft reset ???
I have got other keyboards to use but got used to the standard keypad.

Yep, this happens about once a week.
Usually when I receive a text message and want to go in and reply to it - the Phone Keypad input only types numbers no matter what. To get around it I have to lock/unlock the phone a few times to get it out of this frustrating bug.
I've had this problem myself a couple of times, and I've found that closing the keypad and let it re-open itself by pressing the input box often solves the problem. If I open the keypad myself by pressing the SIP button, this problem occurs more frequently.
for me wen dat happenes i click on back then all messages and then open d sms from der and the keyboard works fine.... no need to soft reset......
the ABC button doesnt work, as mentioned it only seems to do it when i reply to someone,
i will try the going back button then try again, hmmmm anoying little thing
thanks for the feedback guys
Guys do not worry its just another bug of HD2 (literally an expensive crap )
i believe htc would have done proper homework before releasing set ..
HD2 has broken my heart

Stop being so negative and read some of the good reports on here.
Back on topic, I've had this phone for nearly 2 months now and have never experienced this problem. Also, it's only been reported by a handful of the many users on this forum.
The best thing you can do is report it to HTC. If you don't and it never gets fixed then you've only got yourself to blame. If you tell HTC and they never fix it, then you can start moaning about them.
I have experienced that bug too, I recently upgraded from O2 branded 1.43 firmware to HTC 1.48, but haven't tested that for long enough to know if it's still there. If so I'll try and report to HTC if I can.
As promised - I've just had the problem happen with my current firmware, 1.48. After clicking through from the HTC messages SMS view to reply to a message. Keyboard opened in QUERTY mode, though I'm pretty certain I had it set on keypad to send an sms a few minutes earlier too. Toggling open/close, ABC/T9 modes, keboard/keypad, shift and number/text modes also doesn't cure it.
Lock and unlock the screen (from the start menu), its caused by the lockscreen.exe crash, which causes a number of things and is very common.

I have had the phone 2 days now and getting this a few times each day. The lock unlock things works for me cheers.
my keyboard switch to the number mode and freezes...and this problem doesnt solve even with soft reset.what can I do?!!!
hi ..
that has happend to me a few times. i have now put the new ROM on so will monitor the problem.
I couldn't find it in any search, sorry if I missed it. So, here's my deal:
When composing an e-mail, text message or searching on the internet sometimes I won't be able to long press a key to get to the other keys (like long pressing 'K' to get '?'). It happens across the keyboard and is getting more frequent. If I reboot it will work again or sometimes if I just kill the program it will work. Does that mean it's a software issue or hardware or both? I am also curious if anyone else has passed by this issue and, if so, what you did to fix it. Thanks for any help.
I'm running everything stock. Stock messaging app. Dolphin HD browser. Stock e-mail clients. Phone version 002 with latest update.

That's not normal at all. I'd take it to Sprint before even bothering to figure it out.
As for the root of the problem, it could be software, hardware, or both. I remember on my HTC Vogue (Touch), I would get screen problems, but, a hard reset would always fix it. So, it could be a variety of things, and even more reason for you to just take your phone in and get it swapped.

Thanks, I'll try it.
This probably isn't your problem, but you can't long press a key if you hit a key, then slide to the key that you want to long press on, so if you're hitting a key accidentally then sliding to the key you want it won't work. That's just a suggestion
MINE HAS DONE THIS EVER SINCE THE UPDATE, AND I HAVE HEARD OF OTHERS DOING THIS AS WELL. Sometimes it works, other times it wont. Hit or miss.
i've had this since day one. long pressing on links in xscope sometimes took multiple tries.
I called Sprint and they are shipping me a new/referb phone. Didn't think I'd get it for a while but it shipped the next day and I should have it tomorrow. I hope I get a good one and the problem is fixed.
I think i discovered a huge issue with the new firmware. When i have a second line calling me the screen does not wake up allowing me to switch to the second call. In the past, when a second call comes in the proximity sensor would wake the screen and allow me to take or reject the call. Now i cant even see who is calling. Since i use the phone for business, this is a big, big issue. Anyone else experience this?
Can anyone please check this for me please by calling their voicemail and then dialing their own cell # from another phone please. Thanks
you're right. phone does not wake up but you can push the power button wake it up.
I tested.
When the phone beeps to tell me a have another call i take phone away from my head and proximity censor takes a little longer..like 5 sec before screen comes on.
But mine doesn't stay off like yours...tested 5 times

My screen does come on eventually about 5 seconds. Before it used to be instant. Hitting the power button doesn't wake the phone like the other user mentioned. Do u guys think a factory reset will help. I am reluctant to take the plunge cause its such a pain in the neck to reinstall everything.
I have the same issue as well. I tested 3 times and the issue existed every time. I tried to unlock the phone with power button but it wouldn't unlock it (maybe lag?) because after I pressed power button 4 times, THEN it lit up for a moment but by that time, the waiting call already ended.
I'm surprised more people aren't bothered with this serious issue.
Got the same issues, updated via ODIN, argh that's gonna be fun.
Interesting...it would be great if you guys contacted Samsung via email/other method to let them know about the issue. Hopefully they can fix this bug.

I would love to contact them, just not sure where/how. Even if they do fix it, it will only come with another bug fix OTA or Froyo whichever comes first. Given Samsung's track record, this will probably take a while. To me personally, this is an earth shaterring issue since i use the phone exclusively for business being on multiple lines often. Its so bad for me that if it isnt fixed by the time the new mytouch HD comes out, I will have to dump the vibrant even though i love it so much. Me missing calls far outweighs the "love" for this handset.
Its been a few days now since many of us have gotten the update and I am surprised so few of us have not reported this. Has anyone been able to come up with a temporary fix or a replacement dialer to alleviate the horrible issue??
its been a few days now since many of us have gotten the update and i cant believe how so few people have complained about this. It is so annoying not to see who is calling on the second line .
I just got the firmware today and I'd be willing to go back. I missed three calls today because of it. Now what do I do?
